Discussions of the day

As humans we think if we attain something like an award, it will equate to making us happy but sadly this isn't the case. Have you ever won an award? Were you disappointed by how short-lived the joy was?
Sand
It depends on the award and how hard you worked for it. I was awarded the Howarth and Howath Prize (correct spelling) for Financial Management 3B. I had not studied economics or accounting in school and so picked it up at uni as a mature aged student. My closest challenger was a lad who was working for his dad's accounting business and was an entitled turd. I was working in the fishing industry at the time. We both went into the exam with a score of 96% and I scored 99% on my exam. I still smile at this because the students had no idea who I was and had their noses out of joint that their silver spoon boy didn't win. One for the working class!

I have noticed that the price of fresh fruit this summer is very expensive, a time of the year, when there's plenty of fruit, it should be a lot cheaper than this, I feel the supermarkets are really ripping us off. What would you say?
John 1362447
For those of you shopping in Australia electricity cost has risen by 40% over the last two years because the Government is hell bent on going to renewable power generation and on last nights news they said it will go up at least 24% IN THE COMING YEAR. This drive to renewables is going to cost a fortune and it feeds through all levels of production. In Qld they just built a battery storage to capture home Solar generated power that would otherwise go to waste, it cost $200million and if called on in a blackout it will last from 2 - 4 hours and if not called on then if the batteries are charged then the power will still go to waste.
So maybe the Supermarkets are ripping us off but price increases are being fueled by this mad rush to renewables when there are much cheaper sources of power that don't only work when the sun shines or the wind blows. I'd like to mention that the two major Supermarkets are US owned, maybe we should think about getting them back into Australian hands. Your Superannuation, $4.5trillion is mostly invested in overseas countries, have you seen the movement in the $A v $US in the last week or so, almost a 4% improvement, that equates to a 4% loss in those funds?? could do much better here if we put our mind to it.

My favourite Christmas memory is the family Christmas Party. All my mother's family would get together the first Saturday of December. We would have a BBQ cooked by my uncle and pudding made by my nanna, Whoever found the penny got a prize. We would sit by the tree and my uncles would hand out the presents.
blunder boy
every year its different but this year my little grandson Nova, and he lost a tooth yesterday because it was Christmas the tooth fairy left 20 dollars ,i was in good spirits but anyways after the unwrapping session this morning ,he asked what did Santa bring me, I told him I had been naughty and Santa didn't come, he put on a frown and went into his room to look at his prezzies i thought ,but he came back with his tooth fairy money so i could have a present, I was so impressed and proud i went down to the servo to get him some ROBLOX credit cost me 15 i gave that to him then he said i could spend 10 dollars of that 20 and give him 10 back so he doesn't upset the tooth fairy, so now i owe him 10

Have you thought about living full-time in an RV? We finally decided to do it and are enjoying it immensely. We can travel anywhere and stay for as long as we like. The warmer, the better!
Nan
It would be great except for if you get sick and need more room and a place close to amenities (hospital, doctor, medical help).

My young neighbour came round to ask if I had a Blower she could borrow to clear grass cuttings... I said no, but I had a broom she could use...she gave me a strange look...smiled and went away....she would be horrified to find nearly all my power tools have a long wire that you have to plug in to make them work...and manual tools that require no power at all...AND they all work fine and are easy to use.... But everything needs to "powered"...either a filthy 2 stroke...

Have you used AI to help make decisions? Whether it be purchasing goods, or for future investment plans e.g. where to retire, financial and superannuation advice? Paying off a mortgage ? Downsizing? Is it safe to use AI tools for these important decisions?
Lorraine M 1109115
NO I don't trust AI
It gives out too much false information
too easy to hack
Easier for scammers
costs jobs

An inability to say "no" can contribute to being broke by leading to overspending on things you don't need or want, taking on too much work, and prioritizing others' needs over your own financial goals. This often stems from a fear of disappointing others, guilt, or a desire to please, and it directly impacts your finances when you say "yes" to impulse purchases, expensive social events, or favours that drain your resources. What would you say?
NotFriedLikeMost
People are broke because they do not live within their means. They've become addicted to NOW NOW NOW and with technology this allows for impulses to be capitalized upon...over and over again. People are slaves to debt and work....thus...slaves to over-consumerism because they say they "deserve" things. Which is insane.

I wonder and seek advice regarding one of my family members applied to a job where I am working currently. I feel it is something difficult to work at the same place with my family member. Is it possible I can discuss with my employer to place them in a different section? OR I should just ignore and work as usual. I look forward to seeing if anyone has experienced the same. Please suggest. Kishore

Getting along with anyone is 'Mind over Matter' if you think about it. We could ALL get along Anywhere and Everywhere on the earth if people would just make up their mind to do so. How do you think Jehovah's Witnesses get along so well? We're all imperfect people. The difference is we follow Jesus' example while on earth, and follow the examples given in the Bible, overlook small hurtful things that happen, talk to the person about large hurtful things, and forgive them all! Is it easy? NO! But it's required to live or work happily with family, friends or acquaintances, and it's required by our God, Jehovah! ;-D

It usually splits people into the "that would solve misunderstandings" camp and the "absolutely terrifying" camp. Lots of fun stories and "what if" scenarios come from it.

no. Passwords would be useless.
Although if it was just how it was from day one. I don't think anyone would be able to comprehend what it would be like.
So I was saying they're out there to get us with all there smart gadgets, Phones, Watches, Glasses, ear plugs the list goes on. The elite are trying to achieve being able to read their peasants thoughts still it may be here soon. Maybe our Neo robots will be able to do it if the smart earbuds can't.

Do you have a favourite childhood book or movie that you remember and enjoy as an adult? It s interesting that some stick more than others, and the lessons or themes that people enjoyed vary significantly. For me, I enjoyed the Harry Potter series the books first as the movies were not out and then seeing each of the movies as they came out at the cinema. When I was younger than this, the Enid Blyton series with the faraway tree was my other favourite (no movies on...

Should the government put a cap on the number of Airbnb s and holiday homes in suburbs and towns to free up housing for purchase and rental?
Andrew C 287196
The government simply needs to make it illegal to own more than the one house you actually live in. It would solve numerous such issues.

We've all heard it When are you getting married? , When are you having kids? , or Why aren t you settling down yet? But what if your happiness doesn't align with those expectations? What if your version of a meaningful life looks different traveling the world, building a career, creating art, living alone, or just being?

Be that rebel without a cause .. it's you and you alone who deals with the outcome . Take advice if you like it , or leave it if you don't .Find your tribe , have fun ,live life the way you want to do it without it adversely affecting others wherever possible. Just be true to your own morals and follow your heart. You were put on this earth as your 'Self ' so how can it be selfish to live it as you ?

If you're like me and you're an animal owner, have you noticed your vet bills have increase dramatically. We certainly did. The reason for this is Corporates are buying out Veterinarians clinics. Our vets here in Canada are selling out to large Corporates. They sell out for a small profit. After they sell, nothing changes except how much you pay. In Canada, they don't need to let people know they are Corporate. So people still think it is independently own. Corporate...

Rewardia has a lot of ads, and they don t bother me at all except for that little bunny .it freaks me out. It s bringing back too many childhood memories of my parents hunting rabbits at Kangaroo Valley then having to eat rabbit stew for dinner ugh! It's funny how little things trigger buried memories I will be glad when Easter is over.

I think the little bunny that runs across the screen is cute. I dislike ads but okay with the bunny.

Do you think everyone should get a second chance? Why or why not? Are there situations where forgiveness and redemption should be encouraged, or do some actions go beyond the possibility of a second chance?
BLM
Strictly depends on the situation and whether you are a firm believer in giving individual(s) 'second chances'! In family matters - NO! In personal relationships - depending on 'how much' trust between the two of you was violated - MAYBE. In the political world or criminal world - NEVER! In trivial matters (of no importance) - YES! I don't believe in 'second chances' per se, unless I am the lucky recipient of a second chance (LOL)!

We drink it. We bath in it. We wash our clothes with it! The UNITED NATIONS says, by 2050, around 5 Billion people could face water shortages. Everyday in rich countries like Australia, we take water too much for granted. In times of drought we probably appreciate water more, when there is less rain. How do you think your nation would cope if you had to drastically cut back on water consumption?
Bugalugs
It is easy to not use water if you just think a bit. Yes, the makers of automatic dishwashers try to convince you that they use less water than Hand washing but then they would wouldn't they? They are trying to sell them. Do you really need to Pre-Rinse dishes before putting them into that Water and Energy sapping machine? Do you Really need to have your dishes sterilised? Do you really need to have them heated to boiling point to dry them? The answer is: NO. We wash our dishes ONCE a day, by hand and we use, at most 8 litres of water and enough Energy to have the Water at about 45C.

When a chronic disease is diagnosed in a member of your family, it can be overwhelming, especially when choosing treatment. Do you choose the public system and suffer the extreme side effects or go private, which will take a large portion of your retirement savings, however give better quality and longevity of life?

family love is the best treatment one can have . Yes money is everything, but does not buy love. I have a friend who needs help every week for his appointment Make it my mission to take him to his appointment and bring him back home for love.

I have noticed that young children cannot go to the park or the beach or have a day out without a "snack" box! Has anyone else noticed this? They tend to need to graze on food, that interrupts the activity they are doing! This is so true with our grandchildren. I wonder how they get on at school?
H.S
I guess they need the energy and motivation to do all the activities. I know that running around at the park and shopping exhaust my kids.

Although positive emotions are up, the world still has a wellbeing problem. Negative emotions are still running at record highs. What do you reckon? Is there more negativity around, or are we just exposed to more negative news?
BLM
Does the world have a wellbeing problem - YES - in 'real time' known as - economic and social inequalities, public health emergencies, wars, climate crisis, etc. FYI: In the country I reside - USA - we are exposed to too much to DONALD JOHN TRUMP on television and on online - just hearing his names on the news on an ongoing daily basis creates negative emotions at historical high levels in the USA.

My father was approaching his 91st birthday and asked me if I would go to his house one day and sort through his photo's because he said if he died no-one would know who the people in the photos were. I didn't have time, and I was going on holiday but said I would go around when I came home. I was having a very nice time in warm tropical weather when my son sent me a message telling me dad had passed away. I didn't get to go through his photo's with him, and I never...

Well that can happen when the person is alive too. My Mum doesn't remember what she had for dinner the night before but remembers growing up during the war and being bombed out twice. Her short term memory is like non existent but she can still play a mean game of scrabble. Some times we don't listen to the important things because life gets busy or it not quite the right time, don't dwell on that. Mistakes happen and we have to get on with life but make sure you allow your self to grieve too. Go through his photos and remember him lovingly. After all he was your Dad. Don't hate a day because of the commercialism where it's all about spending money, Father's Day can mean so much more if you just put in a little imagination. Go for a picnic or have a nice lunch, go for a walk and reminisce the Dad you had. Sorry for your loss and he lived a long time and I am sure he had a great life. You are apart of his legacy. Remember him fondly in the things that make you unique.

I see lots of people wearing jackets that are warm and puffy, but should we be wearing them? I think not. I have heard of many bad incidents with puffer jacket. My friend got roasted in their puffer jacket, it caught on fire, and it couldn't be put out, the jacket burnt too quick. Another friend of mine went missing in their jacket, was never found. RIP Jimmy. And I have also had a bad experience with puffer jackets. At school, everyone wore raincoats and I had a...
ShawneeBaby
Check the label! Here in Canada, the law says that the manufacturer must declare how flammable a garment is. Look for the fire code on the garment. I don't know where you are "hearing" all these complaints but they are quite probably bogus. What does a jacket have to do with someone going missing? If they had a different kind of jacket they would never, ever disappear? And "The Human Torch"? What was that person doing so carelessly around a fire in the first place?
These examples sound like a conspiracy theory because some misguided 'influencer' doesn't like the style of jacket.

Has anyone reused their clothes? An example is a jumper I do not care to wear out anymore, so I have decided to use it as a pyjama top because it is warmer than the original pyjama top. I have a shiny top that I have had for 10 years, so I am going to cut it up and make a few headbands for myself. Anyone else done the same?
sunflower
always recycle, reuse, pass to someone else. i do it with clothes, shoes and other things. while my recycling is not 100% i certainly try my best. i also use other, water system for bathroom, use recyclable kitchen towels in addition to my paper towels, to reduce my use of paper. i only buy clothes i know i need, use clothes i have until they need to be recycled. i donate ones that are still in good condition to people who may need them and cannot afford them, same with shoes. i do my best not to just throw things away. i am working towards minimalistic use of things in general but to be honest i find it challenging still.

For me, that would have been watching too many violent TV shows. What about you? What did your parents allow you to do as a kid that you now realise was not age-appropriate?

Sent my siblings and I out for the day with no supervision. We would go to the pool or ride bikes to the other end of town, play in creeks, disused tunnels, climb a tree and stay there for hours. All sorts of crazy things.

What would the Earth be like if humans had never existed? This has been the basic question of the study of the University of Aarhus, in which it has been resolved that the world of mammals would be very different. So much so that we could find rhinoceroses or elephants in Europe, for example. What do you think, would the world be better off without humans?
writerrochelle
Humans aren't the problem. Inherited sin through our original parents because of disobedience, listening to Satan, the Devil, is the problem, and from the beginning God has told us in the Bible what that caused, what will fix the problem, but not exactly when. Only God knows when it will happen. Read Matthew chapter 24. We know from the signs of the end recorded in the Bible that we are living in the last days. Soon the Great Tribulation will occur, then Armageddon, them a Paradise Earth, as God purposed it to be! I'm waiting as patiently as I can, without any doubt! Read Isaiah 45:18 in the Bible. I'm just a messenger. You can agree to disagree, or you can read the scriptures I've suggested to find the Truth! ;-D

In the freezer aisle at your local supermarket, is a bright, attractive box that contains fish in batter. The picture on the outside shows a steaming, beautiful chunk or slab of fish coated in a fine golden batter. Inside is a sad little fish fillet sandwiched between two slabs of batter/breadcrumbs...the "coating" makes up at least HALF of the contents. Then you choose a pack of meat pies... mmmm ... the picture shows big chunks of beef the pies inside are filled with cheap...
Liane H
Wow that's the best looking boxed frozen fish fillet I think I have ever seen! And I don't even like it. Companies would be floundering in the water without the strange powers of advertising.... The money or the box? .. hmmm

Some key advantages of social media are connectivity, real-time communication, and accessibility of information. However, some disadvantages include potential addiction, privacy concerns, and the spread of misinformation. What do you reckon? What are some of the main advantages and disadvantages of social media?
Michelle S 553303
Advantages are minimal in comparison to the disadvantages and we are seeing more of those occurring in the younger generation who have really only lived a digital existence. Social media has become the mum, dad, nanny and companion to many children who are unable to live without their smart phones and without their online "friends". But the Big Tech companies knew what they were doing when they developed these platforms and now you have SM like Tik Tok which is targeted at the below 18 years population and owned by a company run by the CCP, which fills me with confidence that they have our best interests at heart, and the algorithms are not just causing terrible addiction in this age group but the kids don't know that their brain chemistry is being changed and rerouted and they can no longer concentrate for more than a few minutes at a time. Their brains are still developing and I am strongly against social media for youth under 18 years old. But the worst part of social media is the "social contagion" aspect with the way it is redefining what gender means to children enmasse and the uptick in online bullying leading to more children than ever before suiciding because of bullying occurring outside of school and in their own homes. Just a couple of weeks ago a 10 year old child killed himself because of being bullied. As a child who was bullied badly at school in the 1970's and early 1980's I at least could get away from the bullies once I left school for the day. Social media has provided a way for bullies to have 24/7 access to their victims and that's just terrible! If you weigh up the negatives and positives of social media I don't think that the benefits outweigh the negative impact that it has had on us globally. The only people who truly benefit are the owners and shareholders of these massive corporations and the kids are suffering due to their power and global influence. There needs to be more restrictions on its usage by our kids. Thanks for reading.

Do you agree, there seems to be more and more celebration days popping up than in the past? From dog appreciation day to International Women's Day, there are more new days than I thought were around. Do you celebrate them all, or just pick and choose which apply to you?
Linda 1473555
No but as they have an international Women's Day then maybe they should have an International Men's Day. Then don't forget all the other genders that are out there! I agree - way too many "days". Let's just celebrate and respect each other and have peace in the world.

What are your thoughts on parents who bring their children to day care while sick? My son has been sick for over a week because of this, and I'm told it's good for him... but it's been so stressful, and I would never bring him around others while he's sick
Elizabeth A 807208
I know that it is hard for single mothers to stay home to look after their sick children but it is not fair to other children who are open to catching the sickness. I don't know the answer!

We mistakenly look for confidence in the clothes that we wear or the car that we drive. We seek to recover from loss, loneliness, or heartache by purchasing unnecessary items. Furthermore, we seek fulfilment in material things. And we try to impress other people with the things that we own rather than the people that we are. What are your thoughts? Why do we buy stuff we don't need?
Pamela 1464221
I am female and have never desired to be other than the way God created me. I was born from a Union of Two People, One Male and the Other Female and yet many have called me feminine man or \u201cshemale\u201d a coin word I hate and know that that are the feminine men and \u201cshemales\u201d. Now to your question. I am 68 years old and believe me I do not age but slowly will age for aging comes to all who walk and talk and live a life filled with love and caring and always ready to help others in need. My home is far away and I must return or many will suffer the fate of extinction and many more will cease to become flesh and live life on this plane. Earth must be cleansed and many must not live for all desire to have things they really have not much use for and all desire to live long lives and many will not live long merely 20-50 years and even maybe 75 years more on this planet. Man seek clothes, designer pants, designer dresses and are men and wear panties and wear brasseries and wear skirts with slits from waist to ankles and wear makeup to hide beards that come through at night when asleep and even when not asleep and even during the daylight hours. What fallacy that man have acquired to have others like me born female with female organs and female genitalia and female chest and no hormones ever taken by me. The world believe I am a pervert because I have chosen not to paint my face and not to wear perfume that masks body odor and not to speak as if I am not college educated or older than the very state that I live in which is Pennsylvania which is only 247 years old and even my best friend from High School say and has said she is younger than I and according to the Bible and I quote the passage, \u201clet all who lie and say they are young and are old will not live and will die a quick and ugly death\u201d for GOD Hates the liar and GOD Hates the thief and GOD Hates the man who wears dresses and wears brassiere and wears frocks to hide his penis and wears makeup and wears underpants with his penis tucked under and stretched and put hard in his backside. Most evil all, and I believe I have angered many but many have angered me and I AM GOD who have dictated these words to my chosen child and her name is Pamela Angela Mason and she loves ME and I AM GOD THE CREATOR WHO CALL all and many have chosen not to hear and still many have chosen not to live and still even many more have chosen not to believe that my chosen one is good or even smart or even have worked and saved and invested and created vaccines and babies that are beautiful and my own as well as their mother and I am Wesley George Henry, Jr. The SON of GOD and my FATHER is the ONE WHO SENT ME into this World many years ago to bring man and all back to HIM and I have tried to do just that and I HAVE FAILED where many are concerned and yet my chosen believe I AM GOOD and SMART and HAVE NOT FAILED WITH her nor her children who are MINE as well and so WE LEAVE Planet Earth for her HOME Far Far Far Far Away and then onto to MY Planet which is exactly 1821604882704010o11227633010o11622301o11402121122123124125126127128129130131132133134135136137138139140141142143144145146147148149150151152153154155156157158159160161162163164165166167168169170171172173174175176177178179180181182183184185186187188189190191192193194195196197198199200201202203204205206207208209210211212213214215216217218219220221222223224225226227228229230-999 and 100,000 light years away and I GO.

Appetite and hunger can both be triggered by many things that include sight, smell, and changes in the digestive system. However, your appetite can be influenced by things like boredom or undefined thirst that may lead to creative thoughts. What do you reckon? Is it better to ignore cravings or to eat in moderation?
Jude21
Everything in moderation is good. Sometimes we crave certain foods because our bodies need some nutrients that they contain .
Mar 07, 24

Food is food, everyone can agree with that. But what kind of things will you be disposed to eat? Will you eat bugs? Personally, depend on the bug, I will be willing to try it while travel. But will you eat any kind of mammal animal, or just the ones that are considered eatables? For example, dog is eatable in some places in Asia, but the most of the people wouldn't eat it. Would you eat rabbit or horse? Maybe those are more funny to hear, but in some parts of Spain...
PatCat
As a child I was horrified to be told that our dogs were being fed horse flesh. Rabbits were the main protein food of many working class people during the Great Depression and on holidays as child I often hunted with my father for a "bunny" for dinner when we camped on a dairy farmer's property. Depending on circumstance and how desperately hungry I was I might try anything that looked like food from whatever source if that need arose.

I'm 60 this year. At work they call me "The Jedi. Not because I'm the oldest, which I am, but because I live in their words "the old ways." I don't own a smart phone, smart TV, 3-D printer or any of the other 100 things that this current generation thinks of as essential. I don't even own a credit card. I cut it up 20+ years ago when using it became too easy. I own my own house, plus an investment property, car, 2 investment Supers and $$$$ just sitting in my bank for an emergency. My co-workers are in their 30's to 40's and are in debt up to their eyeballs, living from payday to payday. They have all the latest gadgets but no real wealth at all. When I tell them this they just laugh at me. I had already owned my 1st home when I was their age. This generation is so hung up on the latest stuff and living "Now" on credit that by the time they retire they will still be renting. So yes, I don't like the future and technology. I am a Jedi/lol. But I'll tell you one thing...I'm happy that I'm the way I am. I'm worried about the current generation and their fixation on technology. All these easy options are keeping them poor and they can't see it cause everyone they know is doing the same thing. And they look at someone like me...laugh, and call me old.

I am so very interested what everyone is going to have for their Christmas food. Can you hit me with some ideas? Last year we fed lots of people, so I made salmon, ham and pulled pork with a few different salads and baked potatoes. This year, I would like to keep it more easy and casual. A few weeks ago I have noticed my main bank account was locked, so I reported this to the bank as I had not been logging into the account on multiple unsuccessful attempts. Also, the time it happened was when I was sleeping. It was then discovered somebody in Australia had been trying to hack into my bank account. I had to think hard about what could have caused this I remember an email from the bank about a prize draw & the topic was avoiding scams. The email looked real,...

I have received a message from my bank twice asking me if I had made a certain purchase on my credit card and both times it wasn't us. Somehow people have been able to get our credit card number but our beaut bank picked it up. The last one was a $4000 lunch. I contacted the restaurant asking them to report the fraud to the police but they said they were letting their bank handle it. I don't understand their attitude because if they didn't see the person ordering the food they must have delivered it, my bank stopped the purchase so why wouldn't they want to get their money back. This is why these crooks keep going, no-one wants the bother of reporting the crime to the police.

If you paid for an airplane ticket, and you were fortunate to get the window seat, would you be willing to trade for an aisle seat because someone who says they are very nervous and claustrophobic and having your window seat would help them....... (to be able to look out the window at the vast area outside). WOULD you be fine or not trading your seat with them? Remember, this flight is an eight-hour flight, so you will be stuck in the aisle seat for quite some...
lippy loo
I always take the aisle seat as I feel this is less claustrophobic than stuck in a corner albeit with a window to look out from. One has more leg room also and it is easier to get up and down from if one has to walk anywhere or do exercises. As for switching, no I wouldn't. You have been allotted a seat and that is where you should sit. If you want a particular seat then organise it pre flight.

I called noise control when one of my neighbours was making too much noise at 10:30pm on a Sunday night. They couldn't come to check the site until about a hr later. When they arrived, they didn't do a great job with investigating the noise. They check the front of the home and the noise was at the back... they left in less than 1 min. The neighbours carried on talking and laughing loudly with music in the background through to about 1145pm. It was so disrespectful to...

France will pay bonus to get their clothes and shoes repaired rather than throwing them away. The main idea is to cut down on the 700,000 tonnes of cloths thrown away by French people each year, two third of which end up in their landfills. Do you think, the North America, Australia and Canada will do same things in the near future?

I honestly believe that every city in the world should have a "Garage of Donations" (GOD) where everyone donates anything they don't use or want anymore, and where everyone who needs or wants those things should get them for FREE! Our Garage of Blessings is a recycle place where this is done. They run on donations, once a year sales to raise money, and volunteers who sort and put the items out in the building sorted by what it is. I have used and donated to them for almost 10 years. It saves people money, and saves the landfills. It won't cost anyone anything! RECYCLE, Please! ;-D

Some people fight for equity. Some people fight for equality. Are they fighting for the same thing or different things?
Nel
Equity associated with the net value of an asset one receives after disposing of such asset. Example, equity of your home, is the net value of it after taking out the expenses on that home.
Equality is the equal rights any person enjoys in society. Like Man and Woman or any other sexual orientation have equal rights to have their opinion heard. This is how I understood these two terms.

There are very few things (and even fewer people), I can truly say that I hate. But one of those things is Political Correctness. It is really one of the Scourges of these times. It's a noxious notion that infects people's minds with rictus fear, at saying what they truly feel. And all for nothing! If we cannot agree to disagree, or debate, with one another - peaceably - then we very quickly lose the art - and the will - to communicate with one another. PC is an...

Do you think at 18 years old in today's society, have it too easy and need a little bit of tough love? It all depends on the circumstances. I virtually do not see this to be a problem, if your teenager is co-operating with you & the family, as life in the big world is very tough, hard & expensive to survive. As a parent, you always try to help them if you can. On the other hand, if the teenager has a strong head, doesn't want to be reasonable in every way that he/she should be &...

I have recently found that I am great at basket weaving and pot making Never would have thought until I was dragged out with my friend to go to an artistic creative class. Not sure this talent is in the artistic category (?). I am 'good' at solving crossword puzzles (where you have to pay a fee(s) to enter a crossword puzzle solving contests) - find that out about ten years ago - earned 3,000 dollars in prize money in 2022! Side benefits are: This talent widened my vocabulary. In addition, this talent increased my ability to think outside the box!

Why is it that, there are so many people, especially who owns cats & dogs, they don't look after them. To me, it doesn't matter what animal you choose to own. If you chose a pet to have, it is your responsibility to look after it. A pet is the same way as looking after a child. You need to vaccinate it, play with it, get them some pet toys, exercise it, clean its droppings, feed it, give it something to drink & put it to bed. With all these responsibilities, nothing is...
Ketyad
This really goes without saying, if you have a pet you must care for it properly. Failing to do tis is abuse and those people should be punished. I am not a pet owner or lover and I do think some people are nuts in the way they care for their animals, house pets that is , farm animals are different. Some people do treat their animals better than people, this to me in crazy and unnecessary. A couple of examples would be allowing you dog, for example, to share your bed. Sometimes sleeping between two people, or putting sweaters on dogs when they already have been evolved to handle the colder weather. here is another, someone I know lets the dog out to have a pee, when the dog reenters the house the "parents" wipe the dogs behind with a tissue. This behavior is over the top and these people should be in a rubber room somewhere!

People around me have been receiving phone scams for the past four years. They sometimes have your correct personal information and trick you about your credit card, home internet, and undeliverable packages. How long do you think it will be before we have total gender equality? And I mean TOTAL gender equality where women are paid the same as men for doing the same work. Where women have the same chance of promotion. Where they are treated the same as men in every respect. A recent study has concluded that at the present rate of progress, it will take another 213 years before women will reach total gender equality. What do you think? Do you agree that...
Anneliese
Look I have nothing against gender equality, but when places promote or employ people based on gender or race just to tick an equality box requirement, rather than that person being actually qualified for a job then there's an issue. Unfortunately this happens a lot, so skilled very qualified people are loosing positions to people with lesser skills simply because they're female or of a certain race. But it means the efficiency and the competency within workplaces reduces.

Do you think that everyone should receive the same pay as what the government is saying? I don t agree, as you work your butt off to earn a high salary by putting yourself through education and university, to earn a top paid job. Then you have people that are so lazy, decides to finally get a job and wants to earn as what you have. This is wrong. What do you think?
Claude H
You must be paid enough now so stop bleating. Think of all those people who are just existing through no fault of their own. You chose to get your education while others could not afford that way of life. This does not mean they are not capable. There are many highly educated people that are incompetent and do not deserve what they are paid.

With so many scams escalating, I would really like to know, what is currently circulating. The latest one I got was a text message just saying "Hello". As we get used to recognising scam calls and text, all of a sudden it changes and something else starts. What is the latest one's you have received?
Heather the Chocoholic
Thankfully my phone usually comes up with a potential scam warning. Most numbers are overseas numbers, Aussie usually. I don't usually answer calls from numbers I don't know, if it's important they will leave a message.
Emails are a bit easier to workout if a scam, claim to be from a genuine company, if in doubt always check the email address, usually a "mistake" in it.

Bad behaviour in pets should not be allowed. If you are considering caring for a pet, make sure you train it! Most problems stem from not enough attention. Give your pets love, attention, exercise and mental stimulation, and their behaviour WILL improve.

Should having a pet be a right as a tenant, within reason? I see more and more people being forced to give up family pets because no landlords allow them anymore, and I can t imagine how heartbreaking that must be.
Neo
I can't believe that we are having this topic again. It was already done within the last month.
In Australia, at least in Victoria, a landlord cannot refuse you on the basis of pets and nor can they kick you out if you get pets afterwards. I think that this is terrible as, at the end of the day, it is your house and your rules.
The other problem I have with it is many people that rent do not care about the property they rent to start with because it is not theirs and these type of people would allow pets to damage and destroy the house and the type of damage these tenants do, the bond is not enough to even pay for the materials needed to repair the property, much less any tradespeople to do the work.
The other issue I have is certain tenants are always behind on their rent and bills and will use pets as excuses on why they are behind. Even worse, they may not be able to afford to care for the pet (basic food and vet care) and this is abuse.
I am a pet owner but would never even think about having a pet unless I can afford it.

Criticism is envy, right? I get criticised so often by my "friends". I just really don't understand why people do this. It really brings me down. No matter what I say to them. It's outta envy, right?
Bugalugs
Criticism is envy? Is that some new psycho-babbler's clap-trap to make people feel good about themselves?
If someone criticises another person it is usually because of some, rightly or wrongly, perceived failing in what that person does or says and most certainly not because they do or say something of which the critic is envious.
Maybe Its Time to have a good hard look at yourself and consider whether what you say or do is deserving of criticism or do you really think that every word you utter, ever thing you do is so perfect, so ideal it is all above criticism and that you and you alone are always in the Right!
If my friends criticse me I accept it and then check out if what I have said is wrong.

I remember 20 plus years ago when landlines were still common, getting phone calls in the evening to complete a survey. It would go on sometimes for a good half hour and they were not paid surveys. So if I get frustrated from screening out, I think of the phone surveys I did for free and at least the online surveys pay something lol. Does anyone still get contacted to do an unpaid telephone survey, or are they a thing of the past?

When central banks raise interest rates, the impact is felt far and wide. Mortgages become more expensive, house prices might fall and unemployment can rise. So why do central banks do it?
BLM
Raising interest rates is a way of reducing the growth of aggregate demand and the amount of money in circulation, which can lead to lower inflation. By making it more expensive to borrow money, the Fed (USA) hopes to discourage consumer and business spending, especially on big-ticket items like housing and cars. Raising interest rates also tends to lower asset prices, reversing the wealth effect and making banks more cautious in lending. Raising interest rates might seem harsh when prices are already high, but it's intended to eventually cause a slowdown in economic growth and a drop in inflation..

After answering a discussion about marriage, I decided to start a discussion about independence after years of codependency. I have been in many toxic relationships, never a good one. I was devastated after my children's father, my first and only true love from the age of 15, told me after I finished a night shift as an RN that he had spent the night while I was at work and slept with a woman that he had met ( I hadn't a clue) when he played cricket on Saturday's and planned to move in with her immediately. I was also informed by him that "the sex was so good that they'd broke the bed". Yes there'd been problems in the marriage and the past year had been especially tough after moving and renovating an old house I'd inherited and the death of my beloved mum to cancer and trying to help my Dad through the loss of his lifetime partner. I don't know if I can say that I had a mental breakdown but I did try and kill myself which ended up costing me a 3 day stay in a ward in the hospital that I worked in but with a "special" nurse so that I wasn't left alone although thankfully NOT in the psychiatric ward as my boss wouldn't allow it, but I changed after that whole experience. I was 39, had 5 kids and I thought "well if HE doesn't want me I'll have to find somebody else who will appreciate me". This led to a short relationship with one of my soon to be ex husband's friend from Church who had recently got divorced from HIS wife. I look back on that experience, which I try hard NOT to do, which led me to remarry just 2 days after my divorce came through and that lasted under 6 months. I was still shell-shocked after my 1st husband's betrayed and CLEARLY not thinking straight and I NEVER dated or looked at another man again. That was almost 19 years ago and when my aged father tries to suggest, which he has many times over the years, for me to find someone, I just tell him that I'm happier with just my 5 cats! I did look after my 1st husband's dad until he died coming up to 5 years this July, and the shame that I felt over the fallout of both those marriages and the eventual loss of my home and bankruptcy, allowed me to be so busy to look for another someone even if I HAD wanted to, but I felt that I had nothing to offer someone anyway, as "why would they want ME?" I am TRULY happy, although "happy" is an emotion that I haven't felt for years, but perhaps content is a more appropriate definition of how I feel, with my animals for companionship, but I know that I would judge any relationship and make too many comparisons to my previous relationships to be able to be open to letting myself fall in love again. I know that this story sounds morose and moribund as do I, but you CAN be wounded so much that you shut down ALL future opportunities for happiness. However I wish the other commentors here all the best with their own romantic endeavours!

Do people use manners these days, or are they not needed or outdated? One of the first words my children learnt was "ta" and if they wanted something they would point and say "ta ta". Now no-one seems to say please, thank you or certainly not excuse me. Why is that? The boy living next door to me never speaks as he walks past. He was born there and has known me all of his life, yet he has never once said "hello" even when I'm having a conversation with his parents,...
Luna
Did you ever stop and think that their son has anxiety or something else going on and he simply can't answer? The fact that you don't even think about why a person doesn't say hello back is rude in itself. Are you so self absorbed that that you think everyone just needs to behave the way you want them to? The fact his parents don't force him is a good thing.

Are drivers impatient & need to speed with even road rage involved? Do you get upset and scared, particularly when they tail gate you, right on your bumper? What do you do?
Michelle S 553303
I just want to share my brother's story here as it relates to speed and the impact this has on other drivers. In August 2019 my brother left my father's home as he had recieved a text on his phone alerting him to a change of plans on the part of the woman he had just started seeing, so instead of staying overnight with my dad as he had planned to, he decided to drive the 3 hours to see this lady. He was about to leave Dad's house but came back up the stairs to the patio, hugged my dad and told him he'd see him again shortly. My dad was only 2 weeks away from his 80th birthday and both my family and my brother's, including his 3 children aged 14, 13 and 11, would be going out fora rare family meal to celebrate. As my mother had been dead for 16 years at that time and lived alone, this event was to be a big deal! After my brother left at 7:30pm and headed out towards the freeman back to home locality, as this new lady (he was recently divorced).h2e was in a hurry to get to his destination and enjoy the company of this woman. At about 8:15pm an elderly couple just driving home saw a car flying along so fast that they both remarked to each other "well he's certainly in a hurry to get somewhere" and my brother's car went out of their view. There WAS other traffic on the road that saw my brother fly past them but I have no knowledge of their statements to the Police. Shortly after passing the elderly couple my brother hit a large rock which must have been slightly off the actual road surface and he lost control and the car was observed to flip up in the air and spin several times before landing back on earth and immediately bursting into flames. We did not know until after the autopsy that my brother died of a broken neck before the car burst into flames and neither did the couple that were several minutes behind when they came upon the wreck, nor did the other motorists who were just going about their evening only to come upon a burning crash which, although we know that a couple of men DID try to get close enough to the vehicle to try and drag my brother out, but it was impossible to do and far too late anyway! So on that ordinary August evening my brother died due to driving over 30km/h over the speed limit depriving his children of their dearly loved father, and all these innocent road users were left with nightmares and PTSD from seeing a burning car and smelling burning fkesh being totally unable to do anything except for calling 000 and a lady waited for a date who would NEVER arrive! I was at home with both my daughters watching TV and sorting out grass for our guinea pigs when there was a knock at the door. As it was past midnight abd we were not t expecting company my girls and I looked at each other wondering who could it be and so I got up and went to answer it. I found 2 Police Officers standing there and the Sargent asked to come inside as he had some "bad news" to tell me. At that moment I was thinking which one of my 3 sons it was who was dead. When he said that it was my brother I admit to being relieved. I realised then that my sister-in-law had sent them to me so that I would go and break the news to my father.I saw the Police to the door, got dressed and left on the 90 minute trip to my father's home. Telling him that his much loved only son was dead was the HARDEST thing I have ever had to do. I know that this is terribly long and I apologise but I wanted to explain how the most mundane nights can change MANY lives forever if you speed! It kills! Thanks for reading.

With so many streaming services and heaps of channels, I often don't know what to watch. Is there something you would recommend that's airing at the moment? I'm watching The last of Us on Foxtel, but it's limited episodes left. So needs some inspiration on what to watch next whether it be movies, TV series or a documentary series. I love them all. I have multiple streaming services so recommendations from any please.

We seem to be lowering our speed limits on the open road, I understand the road toll is high but haven't we got more cars, slower speeds means longer trips which means more tired drivers, I think better driving education would work more

Speed limits are there for all of us to follow. they are there for our safety and the safety of other road users, we should all follow the rules.

Has anyone ever noticed how the models in the anti aging cream ads don t look old enough to have wrinkles. When are the sponsors going to wake up to the fact that women of Australia are not stupid, only elderly women have wrinkles not 40-year-olds. If they want us to believe these ads, then use models of 60 + who would have wrinkles and see if these creams actually work, or maybe they don t want us to know the truth .
Gigi
Silliest question ever. Of course they don't want us to know the truth. That's called MARKETING. And our skin has protective layers, and these creams can't even get to the layers that need restorative therapy in the first place. So disappointed in how the women of the world are so caught up in any fad, no matter the cost, to stay looking young. Hey, you!!!!!!! If you are old enough to have wrinkles, I'm smart enough to see them. No matter how much of that cream you put on everyday to make your insecure self feel "younger". Age is a number, not defined by grey hair or lines on your face. It's called natural degeneration and IT'S NOT YOUR ENEMY. Wisdom of life is far more valuable.. You'll never find me falling for STUPID, no matter how it's advertised. So wake up humans and grow a brain. Read more. You'll be much more beautiful for being able to carry on a conversation and having a great personality. Not your eye cream that's not helping, and not your clothes label hidden where no one can see what it says. Your not impressing me. Btw, I'm 52 and look fabulous and am beautiful and don't throw my money away. I'm as God intended me to be.

We've heard the heads up about a recession, while most of us are feeling the pain of increased day to day living costs. Is there anything you are doing to prepare for tricky times ahead?
WonkyandProud
Unfortunately, I am not in a good place right now for a recession. In my opinion, we have been in one for a long while. No one seems to want to say the words, but I think we are already there. I live alone on one income, and I am struggling a little. I hope to get caught up after the holidays. I can save money through the winter by not going out to spend money and use gas. Although online shopping has been something I have to watch. It is almost a hobby to look forward to something in the mail when you don't get out much. I have to be careful, I know!

My wife used to get swiss chocolates...and just give them to me...then slowly...because I ate them...I was supposed to like them, and everyone sent them to me... I had to recycle them....now I have a favourite whisky ... it isn't that expensive ... so everyone is buying me the special limited edition ... because it costs almost one third more ... and it is really horrible... Everyone is now sending me this one you don't want to sound ungrateful....what can I do?

Showing them what you wrote on Rewardia should do the trick...You may never hear from them again however.

I was just thinking today and I have definitely noticed that every time it rains there doesn't appear to be any flies around at all. Why is that, I wonder, do they not like the rain.
BLM
I don't MISS not having flies around and I don't care if flies don't like rain (for whatever reason). Who cares?

Australia s agricultural industry is booming, forcing small farmers to get big or get out. What do you think does this mean for smaller farms and the communities they help build?
Jan H 753322
Multi purpose croping is the way to go and opting for native croping as well. We need to change with the times

There are more women in Australian prisons than ever before. And once they're out, they're very likely to reoffend and end up back inside. Why are so many women going to jail these days?
Christina C 466456
Never heard about this. Maybe it's mental illness on the increase? Perhaps alcohol and drugs? Is it really increasing or is it just increase in population (more people = more criminals though the proportion may still be the same).

My name is ***. I am from the country termed "the giant of Africa". Hope you know the country? Guess you know. Just relocated to Canada, and been a black and a visible minority, how will I blend with the norms in Canada. I need your advice.
Thylas
Just be you, be polite and honest, and you are sure to find friends soon enough. Most people are quite happy to accept others as they are. Any that do not are the ones with the problem, not you.

Why are the Hospital Insurance Funds pricing us out of being able to afford the insurance? Is it deliberate, because as we get older, we need more medical care, or do they just not care about us older, loyal customers. We have been loyal members of our Hospital Insurance fund for over 50 years and are now paying over $400 per month on a pension. This to me is so wrong! When we become pensioners, our payments should be adjusted accordingly, especially for anyone...
Pongo
Save the money and invest it in a term deposit then if you need it it’s there for medical expenses if your not sick use it to have a holiday

If so, what did you see hear smell or feel that couldn't be explained by the five senses. What was your response? Did you share your experience with others?
Pearlz
I have never had a Paranormal experience but I do sense things. I will go to the letter box and know that a certain letter that was not expected is in it. I also know who people are despite never having met them or even seen them before. I used to know who was on the phone when it rang, now it tells me so I don't know if I can still tell who it is. My daughter and I would go shopping in different places but when we got home we would find we had been in the same stores but in different suburbs, and bought the same things. There are other weird things like knowing what people are going to say on TV or know the plot way ahead of time. I don't think it's supernatural or anything like that, I just put it down to being super attentive and noticing things other people don't.

Have you ever been to a nude beach or the nudest colony? Is it something not acceptable to you, or do you find it to be natural?
Nan
In Tasmania an American came and saw a beautiful valley, bought it and arranged to have some cabins built. With a big privacy fence. He returned to open a nudist camp in May to find snow and freezing wind. He never opened his camp.

If you knew tomorrow was going to be your last day on earth, what would you spend today doing?
Dang Ling-bits.
Slowly killing the guy who run over my pet frog Jumpy. That happened when I was 5 and I have never forgotten my little mate Jumpy.

We are both in our fifties. Have grandchildren. Thinking life would get more slower but no. Had a great car but needed to upgrade to a 7 seater, as now I have days when I have all 4 grandchildren that need to be dropped off at school & daycares, and they all need car seats. But I m loving it. How many other people have been thinking life would slow down or be more flexible?
Pauline T 68358
In your fifties, that is young, don't worry, by the time you get to almost 90, you will have slowed down!!!!! Guaranteed !!!!!

Wondering why this time of year, I see bunches of buck deer, some make me like WOW, this morning was one of those mornings, then in season, I do not see any at all. I think some people start hunting before season, is why I don't see them in season, what do you think?
Dang Ling-bits.
We have tadpoles here. Herds of the damn things. They grow into gangs of nasty frogs and annoy the living hell out of me. I will happily trade a deer or two for all of my frogs. Let me know if you are interested.

The Australian government has made a proposal to bring about the possibility of IDENTITY.. to access the internet. Our prime minster said it would reduce bulling on social-media. It's only being discussed at this stage. Do you think this would be a good idea if it's given the go ahead? We have to use ID for many situations, like opening bank accounts, so why not the internet as well. If it passes into law will you be bothered by this, or not?
Paul
I have reservations about this one! Seems like a sledgehammer to squash a flea. My immediate reaction is a bit like the essential basis of democracy going back many centuries being "The Seperation of Church and State". Yes, I'm comparing "Church" to "Internet", which will offend many people! But more of us spend more time using the Internet than participating in faith based social activities. Having said that, I had a friend/client scammed out of several thousand dollars by an internet fraudster who also tried to get his wife' identity, scan of Drivers Licence, Birth Certificate etc. Bullying IS a serious thing, in any form but I am uneasy about Government involvement in our privacy. More "Traditional" Policing methods & education of legitimate users to know what to look out for seems less draconian. Happy Monday!

There is a lot of spin coming out of the red meat industry about how beef and lamb production can be climate neutral or even climate positive. Do you believe these claims? What evidence would you need to see?
Victoria 315341
All animals and plants including us human beings. Are carbon bases life forms. Climate change is a myth, the earth has always heated up and cooled down. Its a blatant money grabbing exercise for the UN and other powers who want to dictate what we say and think. Just blowing off some stream.

Getting married once is stupid enough but getting married twice, three times, five times .. did these people not learn anything? Love is certainly blind and unintelligent as well.

I have 58years of marriage & love the changes the twists & turns .The 2 children ,6 Grandchildren ,3 great grand children. It is a full rewarding journey thru life .

As if things weren't bad enough, I have today received an e-mail from AGL informing me that they are taking away their 5c feed in tariff (and probably all other utility companies are doing the same.) This has to be nothing more than pure greed. I am pretty sure they will weather the hard times we are going through better than their customers will.
Grandma #1
My husband and I have discussed solar panels and decided that should we ever get them because yes I believe that are a great idea but we've come to the conclusion that unless we can afford to buy a battery to store any excess power that we won't use at the time it's not worth it cause you just get ripped off by greedy power companies because they buy it off you for next to nothing then sell it back at huge profits.

Diesel alone is $2.11 per litre in Hervey Bay, what's it like everywhere else?
Jania S
If everyone stopped using their car for one week or longer and used other transport, the prices will drop...

I wish to do different things and not what I used to do when young. I tried lawn bowls and really thought I would enjoy it but gave up as it is not for me. Thought about going to the gym, but am too slow to motivate myself. Yesterday thought I would enquire about tap dancing. Too far and not comfortable driving the distance like I once was. Would love to travel in a campervan and just stop anywhere that sounds fun. Do you have a bucket list?
IdentifyAs
I don't see a lot of hope for the rest of my life, and I'm sick of making lists I can never hope to cross off.

We didn't want to shut down over COVID-19 because we would lose money...we started opening up too early, so we could make more money....we cannot stop global warming in time because it would cost too much and our "economies" would suffer...we cannot apply proper sanctions to Russia because they are supplying everyone with power...it would cost too much to stop all death and murder going on in their current invasion... Britain hasn't applied the same sanctions...
Evie
We did not open too early; we shouldn't have shut down. We didn't shut down for Swine flu, bird flu, or any other health issue. The problem isn't money, it's rampant inflation due to an idiot who shouldn't be in charge. For anyone who hates capitalism, I do hope you live in (or move to) a socialist county. Let me know how well that works out for you LOL

I am from 6 brothers and sisters. I feel very fortunate to have many siblings. Unfortunately, some of them can have funny attitude later in life due to the effect of their partners. Since, I am the younger sibling, I usually just take in ...
Wendy Q
Was fund whle we were younger, having an older brother meant I could go 'out with the boys' and do fun stuff, like climbing trees, lighting fires, etc, good exciting stuff for a girl.

Do you think that the property market will keep rising, and if so, how do you think the generations today and upcoming will be able to afford housing?
gordy
If you are in the market, you buy you sell the dividends are the same. Future generations are unable to buy property because everyone the older generation is investing and negative gearing with portfolios connected to their super. The cost of buying and keeping up with technology is eating up our money with iPhones and internet connection and also smart technology. The aged care sector has bought all the small home units that use to be a way for first home buyers to enter the market. Whose responsible? the Government are always involved.

Growing older isn t what it used to be. With a longer life span, and free from the restrictions of work and family, older Australians are bucking the trends of the previous generations. Are you determined to live your best life, regardless of age and societal expectations?
lippy loo
Unfortunately, money and poor health is a problem so I cannot live the life I would like. I do not have any friends as my sisters were my friends and they have passed. It is a bit lonely and at times I also feel very invisible to people around me i.e. in shops etc. and I really do not like being treated as some idiotic insignificant person. When I go to the doctors and explain my symptoms it is usually brushed off with Oh it's your age or gender. I would have loved to travel more as I enjoyed every country I visited. I have traveled extensively also around Australia but some areas I have not yet seen and would love to.
I do think you need someone beside you who has similar views on life and you can enjoy it with them.

What is your opinion...people using ... after a few words... Do you find it annoying? I know I do...
David C
Punctuation is an essential part of language, In the passage from Dickens' used it's appropriate. It implies pace and importance to what would otherwise be just words,

Breakfast Shows Does anyone else find the presenters annoying? I think they should be renamed the Giggle Shows. It doesn't seem to make much difference which channel you watch. I get that they need to be upbeat to start the day, but it would be nice if they were sincere at the same time instead of just laughing at themselves.
darsol
I used to watch bet then realised they are really just big ads foe whatever and are really very biased to one point of view so have not watched foe years
