Discussions of the day

I am feeling really fearful about the forecast that omicron is going to infect many, and to be prepared for many people to be off work. Who on earth will look after our people who are in care if the trained and specialist staff are all off sick? I don't know who will be able to care for my husband and the others in his Care home. They are always short-staffed at any time. I don't know how Specialist care facilities are coping in other countries.
Pearlz
This is a very sore point for me as my mother is in a nursing home and as you say they are usually under staffed but when they mandated the vaccine almost 30% of the staff left including the entire management team. It took ages to hire more staff and now the place is nothing like it was previously. The new staff don't really care about the residents and things go left undone and they have demarcation lines where only one person can attend to something. My mother was left with a UTI that went untreated for between 12 to 16 weeks and it was only detected after she had a heart attack and was transported to hospital. The infection was cleared in a couple of days but she now has a heart condition. With only 34% of staff having had the booster more will leave again with the new mandate. I don't for one minute believe unvaccinated people catch or spread Covid anymore than vaccinated people and I would much have preferred that the staff who had worked there for more than 20 years had been allowed to remain working there vaccinated or not. For some very odd reason people seem to have lost their minds over Covid and think that people in nursing homes etc. should be protected from Covid at all costs, even if they die from neglect. I don't agree. Of all the deaths in Australia in 2021 only 1% was from Covid. In 2017 almost 250000 people in Australia caught Influenza, and on one night 17000 were hospitalized because of it. Did you hear that on the evening news? My father fell ill and was admitted to hospital and after a week he was doing well and was about to be discharged but he caught the flu despite being vaccinated. Just after midnight on his 91st birthday he passed away. That wasn't on the evening news either, but if it had been Covid you would have heard about it. People should get a grip, stop listening to the alarmist news media and worry about the elderly and disabled being fed, washed and cared for rather than who has or hasn't had the "jab".

Always wondered but never quite got the awnser, what does cheating mean to you. Everyone looks at things differently in life and has there own opinion but can anyone even clarify what's the terms of cheating.
Judy CH
The worst thing is having someone cheat on you and when you ask them they lie and make you feel as if you are in the wrong, and when found out and they leave it is worse than when someone close dies, the one who dies doe not leave you by choice and then quite often the one they took up with rubs your nose in it. You can forgive but you can never forget, even after 30 odd years certain things make you remember and hurt.

The AMA, Australian Medical Association, is concerned about the state of our current hospital systems. Even before COVID19 hit our shores there were major issues, but COVID has made it even worse ... and there are fears it will only get worse. Longer wait times in our public hospital system. What can be done to improve the system? Your Views?

Here's a thought. Make it possible for EDs to Charge - Not Bulk Bill - people who clog up EDs for no good reason. If it can be shown there is a Real Emergency then the ED Bulk Bills to Medicare. Hitting even the most selfish people in their wallets and purses with No Recourse to claim from Medicare would have an immediate effect. This Fee would amount to being a Fine for Time and Resource Wasting - I have yet to hear of anyone being issued with a Fine who has been able to claim the cost of it on any form of insurance or tax dodge!

In a recent interview with Elon Musk the question was put to him, when does he see his company landing in Mars? To my great surprise he answered, best case scenario 5 years - worst case scenario 10 years. To my even greater surprise, he then said that his intention is to build a self-sustaining city there. Who would put their hand up when people are being sought to live in this city on Mars?
David C
Who would not want to be the next Niel Armstrong?? Dull as Mars looks (it's not as interesting as the green of Aotearoa) it would be cool to be fist there, wouldn't it???

Another year over, almost. Another year to come! How do you think 2022 will pan-out for the WORLD? As per usual there will be the normal disasters ...that will befall the WORLD .....world famous deaths... The usual scandals. Political issues... Covid perhaps still lingering for some months yet? What's your Forecast?

Agree with all the above. A bit dismal isn't it. Perhaps we can have a laugh on this discussion panel along the way over the coming year.

The term narcissist gets thrown around a lot these days as a negative slur to label people on social media, reality TV and politics. And studies show narcissistic traits are on the rise with 10% of us exhibiting traits like self-obsession or entitlement. But just how prevalent is narcissism really?
Lachelle B
Narcissist? Murderers, paedophiles, cult leaders.........It is about those who have no moral values and feel better if they have control or belief that they are better (even in an imaginary world).

Is getting into property becoming harder and harder? Sometimes I wonder if there are more people out there who home multiple properties then people who don't own their own home. I know I'm in the no-home category for now and the foreseeable future.
Gaza
I honestly can't understand why people pay rent and not own their own home, hard work and sacrificing a lot of luxuries is the only way to go. It will pay off in the end.

Are people in general getting ruder, more selfish etc. or are people behaving generally in the same manner, but I m just more sensitive to it as I get older?
'smee,SWQ!
I believe it depends on the demographic Catherine! - If you learnt manners 50 or so years ago or more - you are, I believe generally quite polite but for those educated in the 80's onwards they're taught they are entitled and how dare you expect them to be polite (or anything as the world owes them a living and you'll not get in their way-smack on childish bottoms? No Way!)

In your opinion, have we entered it? Strange Happenings. Complexities occurring. Do you feel, what was otherwise "weird" years ago, is now becoming more commonplace? Detaching "non-ordinary" into something that is now a part of our everyday.

Yes of course, one of my houses is built on the site of a former leper colony. I have seen ghosts in there for the last 20 years. However they do not steal my beer so I am fine with them hanging out in the place.

Do you notice how often doctors tend to put up their fees? Do you think they charge the public too much? I heard that more people would visit a doctor if they didn't charge so much. Why do the fees vary so much? Should they not be capped?
dawnie
Doctors are forced to charge high rates so they can cover their university fees plus staff wages and other general business fees. Also every time they attend a routine status upgrade session to improve their abilities, they have to pay to this - so they need to cover this.

All mistakes are just learning experiences, right? That mistake are made by everyone, some big, some not, regaurdless, there is a difference between taking accountability and being sorry. Taking accountability is easy. after your caught up. But truly being sorry means that you have to change that behavior. I never say Im sorry, unless I really am sorry. Would you buy a product, because they have given their influence? Do you think they are necessary? Are their product endorsements legitimate enough for you to go out and buy a product? Let us know, in the comments below.

When I was young, kids did as we were told, no questions asked. We were never exposed to the conversations of adults. When visitors came for afternoon tea, us kids were sent outside to play. We never questioned the rules that were set by our parents. Kids nowadays have a lot more to say about how things should be done, both inside and outside the home. Do you think this has gone too far?
The dog house
Children should not be exposed with adult issues. Let them be children and free from stress for as long as they can. Outside is better than indoors. Children have too much internet time and less exercise.
May 10, 21

I heard on talk back radio that some schools are planning to stop mothers and fathers days because some children may not have a mother or a father. I don't agree with this as the children really enjoy these days and if they don't have a parent they usually have a grandmother aunt or uncle. What do you think?
Megsiemay
What sort of lunatic is advocating this nonsense? I didn't have a father after I was 11 - he died - but I didn't grow up all warped and twisted because my friends did. Teachers should stick to teaching the three R's. There are kids who can't read, write or do simple maths and their general knowledge leaves a lot to be desired. So glad I'm at the older end of my life - too many stupid people in the world advocating crap thee days.

Do you ever think about your existence? Who created you, where do you go once you die, who gave life? I always had an wondering about afterlife and whether Heaven and Hell were actually real. Share your thoughts and experiences!
Russel B
I think about existence and the wondrous subjects of creation
and of life after death. I also think very much about mortality. Where do we go
after death, if we go anywhere? These are all challenging thoughts and the
older you get the more you think about it. Your emotions come rushing to the
surface of your thoughts.
In most of us we are taught to believe in a God, or higher
power; someone or something that created life and put us on the Earth to exist
and live a normal life. Of course, the kind of life we live is coloured or
influenced by our environment and again, by our upbringings and circumstances, education,
and beliefs. We should remember that for every action and decision there are
consequences.
Most religions nearly always come to a similar conclusion at
the end of life. I do not include the fundamentalists who persist in taking a
severe approach to matters and doing things to society against the accepted
norm (actions and consequences).
In 2015 I was conducting a criminal case in Sydney that was
moved from the Downing Centre to the Central Criminal Court. On my way to the
Central Court, I was crossing Castlereagh Street and a few paces before I
reached the other side I had a Cardiac arrest. I remember going down and my
secretary screaming but that was all. Apparently, a young man caught me from
behind and proceeded to administer CPR. I came to and was taken to RPA Hospital
where after two Angiograms I had a Defibrillator implanted. This was a quick
way of letting me know that it was time to retire. I was 74 at the time.
I still think very much about that day and how lucky I was to
survive. Despite it all, there was nothing on the other side to relate; there
was no bright light or rushing wind like near-death stories talk about. But
perhaps I had not died in the true sense of the word? The experience has made
me think about all these things very deeply and realise we are here on Earth
to look after one another as best we can. I have three adult sons, a darling
wife of 54 years of marriage, and 6 Grandchildren.
Perhaps we weren’t meant to know all about our own existence and
mortality? It may come later...I wonder.

Are you concerned about low interest rates and how badly they are affecting many people? Banks are generally paying most -customers much less interest than even a few years ago. Have your savings dwindled down - lower, and lower as time goes on? Low interest rates have been great for mortgage borrowing, and investment. The downside is that it's also forced the cost of buying a home. Many people can't get a foot in the door because of much higher property prices. Do...
Anneliese
The government and banks should just let the market crash normally so prices of houses can go down. This fake businesses of propping up the housing isn't good for people trying to buy their first home. It's only helping those with investment properties.

Same are happy having a child. Same of us don't want to have kids. They are peoples out they don't feel a needed to have a child. Peoples think something is wrong of me not having a child. Will change in years to came.

Your choice, and no body else’s business. Some would give anything to be a parent, some shouldn’t be parents, others live with regrets, and most of us wouldn’t change a thing and the learning curves that come with being a parent. Follow your wishes

A lot of children and teenagers, don't understand the dangers of what is lurking around online. Children are quite often cyber bullied, or fall into online grooming. A lot of them aren't even aware they are not cyber safe. Should we teach them more about the dangers out there?
BLM
Do children and teenagers need to be more cyber-safe - YES (quite obviously). However, this is strictly the responsibility of a PARENT(S) - law enforcement becomes involve after the damage is done to a child or a teenager - the parent responsibility is to stop the problem before damage is done to a child or a teenager - (because we all know predators are everyone - especially online - and predators prey on the weak and/or unaware!!!!!!.)

I really did not use what I learned from school into my growing years, It was more of a 'learn as you go' situation for me which I hated so much, I would have liked more lift skills. What would you like to see replaced or included in the children's education?
Jacq
Agree we need to go back to basic maths, spelling and sounding the alphabet. Just crazy how kids work out sums I can't help my grand-kids and when I do I get the answer so much faster than them. Need to learn how to cook basic things & sew on a button. Algebra was the most useless thing I learnt, never had cause to use it.

The word happiness is overused. A better goal would be contentment that allows for the fact that you cant always have what you want. Result should be less stress along with better physical and mental health.

Happiness is not a false goal at all, happiness is a term used for what and whoever makes you happy,eg: I feel great happiness and joy whenever I spend time with my children.

I wonder if advertising companies even consider consumers intelligence, or do they play strictly to our sense of humor. Some ads today are actually, to me, unrealistic in what they promote. Maybe I'm just old and set in my ways so that I can't see the relevance. As a TV program director used to say on his weekly op-ed commercial, that's my opinion, what's yours?
BLM
Advertising does influence consumers into buying products through various psychological, emotional, and cognitive factors. Advertisement creates awareness, provide information, and evoke emotions that drive purchasing decisions (aka a 'sucker is born every second' - LOL).

Anyone else struggles to get there teenaged to go out anywhere? It s like we re punishing them to go shopping or to the pool for the day?
Travel
Keep an eye on your teenager's mental health. My son had depression and was suicidal but he was usually in his room and I didn't realize until someone at my church put him onto headspace. Staying in your bedroom and not talking is not normal teenage behaviour. Also look out for lack of interest in things they used to love.

Depending on which half of the hemisphere you live on, you either have a summery or wintery Christmas. My whole life, I have only experienced summer Christmases. Do people who have Christmas in winter even realise that the other half of the world is in summertime? You see Christmas products in shops and everything is based on a winter Christmas. The real question is... which one is better and why?

Sometimes I wonder if it is really necessary to host a Christmas dinner. I love spending time with family, but organizing everything can feel stressful and expensive. Many of my family members are busy too, and it makes me question if a big dinner is truly needed or if a simple gathering would be enough. I m looking for others' thoughts. Do you think hosting a Christmas dinner is important, or is it okay to celebrate in a smaller, easier way?
J
I think Christmas should be spent however you want. If hosting a dinner is it then by all means. The stress can be alleviated by turning it down a notch or two.. It doesn't have to be elaborate. The whole idea is the sharing and caring as we get together and celebrate. Get family members involved. They can contribute by bringing something.
Dec 15, 25

Traditions often shift and adapt when they cross borders. For example, Christmas in Australia blends European customs with summer barbecues and beach gatherings, while Lunar New Year celebrations vary widely between China, Vietnam, and Korea, each adding unique foods, rituals, and symbols. Even ancient practices like Yule have been reinterpreted into modern holiday traditions.
lippy loo
If different traditions enter through new family members what is wrong with that. You can keep yours and just add theirs. We are all immigrants or ancestors of immigrants. We used to be mainly English traditions which did not suit our climate anyway. I never saw snow until my teenage years, so a snow scene scenario is not my tradition. A roast in Australia during 30 plus degree temps. is just ridiculous so a BBQ or beach setting with seafood etc. became the rule for us although many still keep up the UK traditions. Each to their own. It is basically all about family isn't it?

I am grateful to members of my family who have helped my husband and I during a recent move. They organised rubbish removals, helping with lifting and cleaning and provided extra transport to the new property as well. Is there anyone in your life who is an invaluable help and comfort to you during these events?
Lachelle B
Give family date of move, organise truck, pack one room, cull as you go, boxes in the garage, clean room, shut door. Takeaways for last two days so you're not doing dishes all the time. Last day males move, women at the other house unpacking. Organisation is key including weather reports. Pets are the last to be moved.

With the rise of social media, messaging apps, and remote work tools, it's easier than ever to stay in touch with people across the world. But at the same time, I sometimes wonder if all this "connectedness" is actually making us feel more alone. Are we really connecting in a meaningful way, or just filling the space with digital noise? I used to read magazines, and one of the reasons I lost interest is because you can't be sure of what's claimed to be factual. Our local Turkey Hill gas prices drop by a penny a day and have ever since Harris opened her big mouth to bad-mouth Vance and Trumpy! The reason for the high Uber prices? The Uber drivers are fixing their own 'guesstimated' rates! Too many of us are just plain too damned lazy! You drive to a gym and exercise for an hour and then drive home again or to work! Our new neighbour is in his mid 80s and is up every morning at 6 am. He starts cutting wood to burn and disturbs us early in the morning. This is hard for you. I avoid confronting people even in a nice way. Invite him in for a coffee and have a general get to know you chat. He might explain why he does it so early and every day without you even asking him. If he is doing it every day then he must not be doing it for very long. It might be a routine from an earlier part of his life. I can\u2019t imagine he needs to do it every morning. In a general friendly chat you might be able to suggest he only does it once a week. Just do the get to know you first before you leap in and contact the council or start to tell your neighbour to change his ways. I feel for you. This could become increasingly more irritating.

If you could travel to anywhere in the world and money was not a constricting factor, where would you go ? I was supposed to do a tour of England, Ireland and Scotland in 2020, but unfortunately Covid intervened, and I since had to use the money for house repairs. I would do that trip if I could, and I would also love to see other places as well, maybe Italy and Greece. Where would you go if money was not an issue?

My wife is planning a trip for our 30th wedding anniversary to Switzerland and Netherlands so I guess that is where I would be going soon

Hi, my name is Alisha, and I am dealing with weight gain and I exercise a lot. What are some ways that I can lose weight?
writerrochelle
This is how I lost: Lower daily intake of calories (1200 for me at 5'2"), drink something HOT every 2 hours (tea, coffee, lemonade, and hot chocolate, at 9am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm, 7pm, 9pm and 11pm for me), and only eat in an 8 hour period, fasting for 16 hours (11am breakfast, 3pm lunch and no later than 7 pm dinner for me). I can do it by drinking a hot beverage every 2 hours. I lost 1 pound a week, in 11 months, and am keeping it off, and you can, too! I'm 76! I started on February 14, 2023 and, before February 14, 2024, I had lost that 45 pounds! Oh, and I did NOT exercise, or take anything for weight loss! ;-D

A relative received insurance money for stolen jewellery. She was instructed to go to a particular store on the Central Coast in NSW to buy replacement jewellery. Many of the items stolen were heirlooms, so it was going to be heartbreaking. At the store, she noticed there was a half-price sale. Was she lucky this time? Not really. The store manager claimed that it was policy for Jewellers to charge full price for items bought with insurance money, even though...
Bugalugs
The word is GREED. Greed has been expanded like never before. What the jeweller did was patently Dishonest. Without exception ALL Insurance is Grand Scale Larceny by ALL Insurance companies . One huge Multi-national group operating in Australia, IAG, which Victorians should get to know, controls RACV's Insurance, has just announced a 79% Increase in Profit from the House Insurance Division of their business to over $AU1.4 BILLION. In the same breath they announced they are INCREASING House Insurance Premiums by 11 %! Almost 4 times the CPI. They also announced an Increase in the Profit they made from their Motor Vehicle Insurance division. If this massive increase in House Insurance premiums is not Price Gouging or Profiteering I would like to know what else it is. It is beyond time the federal Government stepped in and regulated the Insurance industry and if that means regulating Premiums so be it. Even better would be a Taxpayer Owned Insurance Company, one which, unlike Medibank, could never, ever be sold off to Private Enterprise. We all saw what happened when the then Federal Government sold Medibank to Private Enterprise. Medibank Ltd. became the Leading Force in Raising Private Health Insurance Premiums.
The boss of IAG used lots of weasel words to justify those House Insurance Ppremiums Increases. No-one, least of all the ABC's Sarah Ferguson on the ABC's 7:30 Report last night, believed a word he said.
Insurance is nothing more than a Gigantic scam.

One day chocolate was suddenly poisonous to dogs (that would have been a surprise to my first three dogs who ate it and lived until at least 13 year of age)...best buy them dog treats at $10 a packet... AND you should not give them sticks or bits of wood they may splinter and be swallowed (but you can buy a stick shaped dog toy...made of wood...in the supermarket...for only $19!!)...oh and bones...cooked or uncooked...can splinter and be swallowed too now...or damage...

Yes it's a big business - and don't forget the flea shampoos and heartworm tablets and doggies day care centres and vet bills that are more expensive than human services.

We have really good dog like robots...ones like birds...and otters. Why not make robots TO hunt? Some people are totally obsessed with outsmarting and killing things....some people have stopped eating animals...why not stop killing them for no reason too? We could even make smarter "animals" that would make "hunting" more exciting for those with guns....they could be disabled and "die"...then just restarted for the next "hunt". What do you think about that?

I have seen a lot of these products on the shelves what is up with inventors they come up with odd things which are not safe for children at any age I saw a cotton candy flavoured putty or something which I don't think is safe for kids and a lady had chap stick or lipstick which is not safe for kids and the mom gave it to her 6-year-old. What do you think?
Izzy
I grew up in the 80s and all our toys were hazards. I had a barbie once, roller blading barbie, she had flints on her rollerblades, so I'd drag her across the floor or carpet and sparks would shoot out! I can't imagine something like that being sold today haha!

When we get married or involved in a committed relationship, we also become part of our partner's family. Have you experienced a mother-in-law and/or father-in-law who are rude to you? You know they don't like you, so interactions become awkward. How do you handle it? Do you confront them? Do you find out why they don't like you and try to change to get them to like you? Do you ask your partner to intervene? Or do you just keep quiet to keep the peace? ...
Norman PSBHRJ
You shouldn't change for anyone, especially your inlaws. Your husband should talk to them and let them know if they are rude to you, they are being disrepect to you and your husband, if they can't behave and be grown ups then they need to stay away. Your husband married you for who you are, why change that to please his parents.

A nutritionist on the morning news has warned that ALL soft drinks are REALLY bad for you. There are NO good ones, you should wean yourself off them using fizzy flavoured spring water, and then supposedly just drink water. So at the moment you can only be safe and responsible if you drink water and eat vegetables...everything else either really bad for you...or really bad for the planet...when they remember that there is also credible evidence that plants feel...

How do you go about with helping your kid who's being bullied at school and the teachers won't do anything about it? My daughter doesn't want me to confront these kids as it will make them bully even more. I feel lost in trying to support her
Secret Squirrel
Schools are very unwilling to acknowledge this unless it happens right in front of a teacher. Perpetrators are smart, they pick their moments. That being said if the school won't help you there are a few things I found with my youngest son helped. Listen, so they feel heard and validated, talk about your child's feelings.
Try and work out who is who in the zoo, your child's friends, the bully's as well as those that stand by do nothing . Encourage your child to avoid, those that harass them ,so not to be in an area of the school yard, walk away when being verbally harassed, ignoring them as bully's get bored pretty quick and move on if they can't get the reaction they want. If it gets physical they must report it to the teacher. Specifically in my son's case it got to the point where I told him to retaliate and stand up for himself as the teacher had no interest in his problems and would move him on. I told rhe school this, they weren't happy, but it made the bully think twice about tripping him over and pushing him down rhe stairs again. Finally I got a private councillor. After consulting my sons g.p he was put on a mental health plan* to support him and to get 5 sessions free of private councilling with a child specialist of my choice. Best thing I ever did. He had someone else to talk to,was given great advice, talked about coping with stress and bullying. * the session involved together councilling as a family and part individual which was confidential. Things rhe councillor thought I should know was discussed with my son and then we talked about it together. He continued going for 3 years. Now,he is 18,and happy, doesn't care who likes him or not and actually has had many of his ex bully's apologise to him. By the way ,when school found out about the councillor, they contacted them, but was told they couldn't discuss anything with them. The school offered a councillor for him, after 4 years of ignoring my son,we refused.

Is there room enough for both at a young age, or should young people be focused on securing themselves financially first (buying a house and securing a career)?

We have seen many settings for soapies from all over the world. Beaches, Vineyards. Airlines, apartment buildings, cafes, restaurants, cotton plantations mafia involvement etc. Can you suggest other interesting or provocative ideas for a new soapie in your country?
Kymberleigh R 733541
I would like to see people that live with physical disabilities on Soapies as there is not enough diversity on these types of programs.
I like watching Neighbours and Home and Away, Neighbours currently has a young lady that has Down Syndrome, (I can't remember her name)
A new Soapies could be the trials and tribulations of NDIS.
It would give the wider community a real understanding what people with disabilities and their parents/carers and siblings have to do deal within real life.
Another idea is a hospital setting with all the patients living with various disabilities needing medical treatment.

Well the first multi-story car park recently collapsed it would seem because it was not designed to carry the full weight of all the cars that were parked in it. A building that was perfectly safe when parked full of cars in 1970...had to carry vehicles at least one third heavier by 2020....and now we have loads of electric cars that weigh a minimum of one third heavier than even that again some double that weight or more that's something to think about...eh?...we...

Put the money you would spend smoking into a locked container. Given the price of them the money will soon amount to enough to buy something you need or maybe reward yourself with a weekend holiday or one of your "dreams". You may have to cut back over a few days or couple of weeks. You may need encouragement from your family and close friends.

A multi-storey car park in New York has recently collapsed...they generally don't do that...and a report in the UK advises that the weight bearing capacities of our car parks needs to be substantially revised....most cars have become a lot heavier over the last 30 years...and all the new electric models weigh at least 30% more...often double or more...many current carparks were never designed to take this kind of weight when full.....scary stuff?...

Just what is this obsession people have with buying these huge, heavy vehicles? vehicles designed for Off-Road use are being bought but never do morwe than take the children to and from school, do the weekly shopping. General Motors released a Monster Vehicle called RAM, a vehicle which dwarfs all others, designed for heavy Duty Work but like the smaller, but still massively heavy and big, are never used for Work but also to take the chhildren to and from school and go to the Supermarket. Not only do they tear up the roads but they eat fuel and, in Australia where they are being dumped because other countries are banning their sale they pump out more emissions than any others. I was in a Supermarket car park the other day and one of these monster vehicles took up Two parking spaces.
Do people buy these tanks because they have such low self-esteem they make them feel bigger and better than everyone else?
Governments should ban their sale becuaes, for the most part, they are totally unnecessary.

Having a pacifier on hand is very handy to have, or maybe not. I see & understand when a baby or a child needs one, but if you can even better if they are not used to it. In my opinion, I would never introduce this to any child or baby for many reasons. I was so lucky that my children never had it. Do you think dark tourism is immoral or moral in your country's social norms? A dark tourist would be somebody that is from a country that shooting a gun is illegal. Dark tourism I have heard about is people paying huge sums to go to Africa and shoot big game that is fenced in on reserves. Where they have local guides and transport so they can chase down the animal. Lets get rid of their high powered rifle and give them a spear and have to chase the animal for miles until one or the other is exhausted, and have to fight to the death. Then they can skite how good a hunter they are!

While watching a lot of clips on Facebook and mainly on animal rescues. I sometimes come across what appears to be fake and possibly cruelty to animals in the making of the clips. People get paid for these clips. Have you encountered anything that may be questionable in either clips or news?
Graham A
It's more the question of what isn't fake on Facebook!! The influencers are fake...done up fake, giving fake reviews about products they are paid to give fake reviews for etc etc etc. It's a disgusting place and is has no moral boundries. I can't believe people think it is important to post pictures of 'look at me having a cup of coffee' etc. The stupidity of posting pictures of their new car with number plates showing, their new house with a street number visible, their real birthdays, telling people they are going away for 3 weeks over Christmas to the newest trendy place, the designer dog they just paid $6,000 for...it goes on and on and when they get robbed they blame everybody else.

Should school be a chore? Why can't learning be fun? I think that the way children are taught at school is too methodical and processed, it's a critical time for our kids, I was lucky enough to have great teachers who along with factual information I was also taught me why this information is important for instance I had a maths teacher in high school who took us to putt, putt to teach us speed and angle in relation to ball to the hole 95 percent of that class scored BS or...

I had a few gems as teachers...but not many...I had a lot of fun at school but I wasn't supposed to be enjoying myself..so a fair bit of the time resulted in mad people hitting me with canes...over the bottom or across the palms..and a stream of half hour detentions after school..but none of it worked..I didn't get depressed...or give in....I still had laughing fits...I still had fun...that's what kids do!
...kids are VERY resilient..,and you cannot cure them of being REALLY happy,,I'd lie on the floor laughing and could not get up!..
....I am not sure how our current batch of little angels would cope with that...they would probably need therapy...(these days I might get therapy or medication for being optimistic defiant and happy...it is probably a medical condition...like everything else)
many of our current batch were really damaged during covid because they didn't see their friends....it affected their communication skills and their abilities at school....I wonder how they would cope with the Blitz....
or being in other interesting places...we might be raising a generation of babies that never want to leave home...

From regular panic attacks on day-to-day basis to an unexpected panic attack before for example flying - how do you manage your everyday life? How do you overcome anxiety?

I have suffered from anxiety for over forty years. I have tried everything that I come across. I take medication but it doesn't seem to help much. I have tried many hypnotherapist, talked to many counsellors, psychologist, psychiatrists. I have tried numerous herbs, CBD oils and medications, relaxation techniques, crystal therapy, and the list goes on. I still have anxiety. I don't believe there is a cure. There are techniques to help after anxiety hits but no idea (sadly) how to overcome it.

We love traveling, and have just done a big trip to Europe and The UK. While we were there we were asked a lot about Australia and of course we told a few pork pies (exaggerated truths). What is the best one you have told? The one we used to tell American sailors (before internet) was that the Harbour Bridge was closed every day at 5pm for the Kangaroos to cross. It was amazing how many believed it. While crossing from Spain to Italy by...
lippy loo
Heck we do not have to tell Porkies, our truths are enough. We have the most deadliest spider/s, deadliest snakes 9 of the top 10, Kangaroos that attack, Dingoes that attack, Sharks, Sea Snakes, Stingers, Blue Bottles, Stonefish, Box Jelly Fish, Salt Water Crocodiles, Cone Shell, Blue Ringed Octopus, Paralysis Tick, and the list goes on and any one of these are deadly. The European Honey Bee is also a baddy. Never had to make anything up. However, one American asked if we could see Uluru from the Sydney Harbour Bridge and of course I said yes but I did educate him after I took the mickey.
However on the plus side we have a beautiful country with unique animals, flowers, trees, etc. A huge rock in the middle of the country and the largest coral reef, we have wave rocks, canyons, deserts, water falls, mountains, stunning beaches and wide open spaces. Our country is diverse with so much beauty to see.
Actually, Kangaroos have been known to cross the Harbour Bridge so not such a porky.

Spent a few days in Sydney, and I'm not so good on my feet, so used a lot of very expensive taxis. Overhead one driver actually asked for a tip and got himself a five dollar reward. This was wrong of him to ask for, as none of the others did, what do you think?
BLM
I don't believe in tipping (I don't tip, and I don't feel self-conscious when I don't tip). Your employer (taxi drivers are employees) - should be paying you enough - so a customer shouldn't have to TIP YOU (known as subsidized your wages/earnings)! For as I am concerned - this individual (described in your scenario) needs to get a "real" job that doesn't involve tipping!

BLM
Why would you trust the 'MEDIA' on any subject - PERIOD! (Example: Fox News settle a civil lawsuit for 787.5 million dollars based on the fact - Fox News was blatantly distorting the TRUTH (aka outright lying that former President Trump was cheated out of his re-election bid in 2020)). The MEDIA is in business to make money - by any means necessarily - the end (profits) justify the means - (aka capitalism) - which has nothing to do with giving you unbiased facts so that you can make informed decisions!

On August 15, 1971 if my memory serves me correctly, president Nixon temporarily suspended the redeemability of USA notes back into gold. So from that point, the currency issued only has the promise of the government to make good on those notes. If you take a look at the indebtedness of most countries governments, this temporary action by president Nixon is fast becoming a world nightmare. Do you think it's about time to re introduce gold and silver to back currencies, or do...
BLM
One, your memory doesn't serve you correctly, the first president to take the USA off the gold standard was FDR in 1933. Two, you are deliberately confusing personal debt with the debt of a country (a stigma comes with personal debt - not the debt of a country). Three, every 'country' on this planet has debt (including Saudia Arabia, Kuwait and China - supposedly the three richest countries on the planet). Four, not any countries have enough gold (in reserve in their country) to cover its debt (including China, Saudia Arabia, or Kuwait). Five, if the world economy went back to the gold standard, the world economy would immediately go into chaos (and a full-scale depression). Six, you 'never' hear international banking firms, international accounting firms, international law firms, or international think tanks (firms), etc. advocating for a return (back to) the gold standard. Seven, your plan will only work if you are advocating for ANARCHISM. Eight, cryptocurrency is a digital currency designed to work as a medium of exchange on a computer network that is not reliant on any central authority, such as a bank or government - to uphold or maintain it - aka a 'SCAM' on the streets of USA (in rough neighborhoods). Last, cryptocurrency 'only' works if you are 'gullible and greedy' - it is not a long-term viable solution to replace a monetary system that doesn't work (anymore 'except' for the benefit of the rich or the super-rich) - aka CAPITLISM.

We are lucky to live in a world where most medicine can cure your discomfort. However, the cost of living is so high that it has become a problem for people to buy medicine in drug stores. Sydney is going to have a advertising campaign to try and convince residents to stop flushing undesirable objects down their LOOS. It blocks the sewage pipes when they do this, and it's not good for anyone to have this happen. Wipes are not permitted...but its many other things being flushed including oils and even toiletries...etc. Do you think some do this on ---purpose...or do you think they are just thoughtless and careless?
Pongo
This is a pet subject of mine, I’ve been in the plumbing business for over 50 years and in that time I have seen strange articles stuck in drains
Often children put toys in the loo and in England there was a man at the water treatment station employed to look for still births. One really common article was a sanitizer that hung on the rim of the loo. It was just small enough to disappear from sight but never went any further. The clear water could pass but solids would accumulate . I must have cleared hundred out over the years until they made them bigger

Hello everyone. So I have a 6-month-old boy and was wondering is it a good thing to put your child through daycare or is it pretty ok just to wait till kindly? New at this :)

Get married (if you're not) and Raise your own kids. There's a good reason the traditional nuclear family worked so well.

My twins are 9. They would like to walk home from the bus stop, is 9 too young to let them do this?
Bugalugs
Depends on how mature they are. Do they know Never to speak with anyone they don't know or who have not visited their Mum and da at home?
I thinke Lorne M, below, has got it right. Safety in numbers.
They Must also klnow that there is to be no wandering off simply because they feel like it and that they Must come straight home and then, with your permission go off with other kids so that Mum/Dad knows where they are going.

There are reports of children on a large scale refusing to go to school, and it has been labelled a medical condition. Is it really, or is it simply a case of children being children? The problem has blossomed since the Covid lockdowns, when I suppose children found all sorts of things they could do at home rather than sit in a classroom and listen to a teacher. Specialists are asking for more money and resources to deal with the problem, but shouldn't parents just tell their...

It\u2019s because parents are letting their children get away with everything. If there are problems at school, then investigate and deal with them. Allowing children to avoid facing problems will only create more problems for them later in life.

If your neighbor's lifestyle bothered you, would you say something to them? Many people like to smoke cigarettes and marijuana, which I have nothing against. However, if you are one of those people who do not do either, but your neighbors do it non-stop, and it affects you, would you let them know?
Roslyn A
I had a neighbour who used to complain about me for digging a hole for a tree at 5pm, sanding a wall at 9am and other petty things - yet I was up earlier than her and at work earlier than her and in bed later than her. I say, leave your neighbour alone!

Do you think genetically modified food is making people obese? It seems that when people use more and more genetically modified food they put on weight quite fast. Whereas those people who only eat food grown locally and meat that has not had hormones added don't put on weight so easily.
BLM
If you don't trust 'genetically modified food to be safe, then don't buy genetically modified food. However, this is a capitalistic society (aka profits over people)! What do you expect when it comes to making money (short cuts are going to be involve to raise the profit ability level)?!

Falling victim to a scammer is an awful feeling. It s not only the theft of money or personal information that stings, the thought of being tricked by lowlife crooks is enough to enrage anyone. Statistics show more than 95 per cent of Australians are exposed to telephone, text and internet scams each year. Even more alarming is the amount of money these thieves are stealing from us. Last year it exceeded three billion dollars. Is there a meaningful solution to stopping scammers...

If you could change one thing in the neighborhood you live in, in an effort to make it a better place, what would it be?

Clean out the drug dens, put road horns off the streets. Make councils do what they are paid to do and not bend to minority groups

Which age group has been the most challenging for you as a parent? Some people say it's the first 8 weeks, others say it's the terrible 2's or troublesome 3's and others may say it's the teenage years. Each age group has unique challenges, but which age group have you found to be more difficult?

Easter Holidays are fast approaching. What traditions or special things do you do for the holiday? We tend to spend the few days as a family trying to reconnect. Usually everyone is off on their own things and work, so it gets a little hard to see everyone. The 4 day break is a nice time to catch up and enjoy the company... and eat some chocolate.

My family used to get together for all the major holidays, but since my Mom passed away, we hardly ever see each other. So sad, really.

It amazes me how some people can 'transform' themselves with make-up, fake lashes etc. I struggle with mascara don't even get me started on blush 'rosy cheeks' disaster! What's your 'going out for the night' look?

I was dating an addict for several years. I eventually kicked him out of my home. I have since joined a site of families of addicts. So my questions is - should you stay and support the addict when their behaviors impact your lifestyle? I left for my own mental health, but I have heard both sides. People that say if you love them you would stay, others like me who had enough and left. Curious about what others think?

An addict to what? Crosswords? sport? Please when asking a question make it clear. I assume you mean drug addict? There are many addictions.

My wife loves these reality TV shows and as a devoted husband I have sat through quite a few hours of reality TV which to me is nothing like the real world, so I don't understand where the reality title comes in, love is blind, perfect match, farmer wants a wife and many more, I have watched, and I have an opened mind, I just don't get how the men act or the females talk, is it just the way now or is chivalry dead?
Lachelle B
Should be called 'Desperation Shows'! 10 women vying for one man, have no qualms about kissing him when he was kissing someone else an hour ago. Willing to have it all hang out, spend hours on make up and hair daily. You don't see blind, deaf, disabled people... on these 'reality shows'. Chivalry can take a back seat, should start with common decency and having enough self respect to dress appropriately. There are already too many botoxed and duck lipped women on the planet. Looking 'normal' will be the new 'in' thing one day, then you can call it a reality show.
