Discussions of the day

You have just been asked to be married. Would it bother you if your diamond engagement ring or wedding ring set was designed and produced in a lab? Or would only a real diamond be acceptable?

I just don’t understand the appeal of expensive jewellery. As long as you like the way it looks and feels, then why would you care how much it’s worth?

Are drivers impatient & need to speed with even road rage involved? Do you get upset and scared, particularly when they tail gate you, right on your bumper? What do you do?
Michelle S 553303
I just want to share my brother's story here as it relates to speed and the impact this has on other drivers. In August 2019 my brother left my father's home as he had recieved a text on his phone alerting him to a change of plans on the part of the woman he had just started seeing, so instead of staying overnight with my dad as he had planned to, he decided to drive the 3 hours to see this lady. He was about to leave Dad's house but came back up the stairs to the patio, hugged my dad and told him he'd see him again shortly. My dad was only 2 weeks away from his 80th birthday and both my family and my brother's, including his 3 children aged 14, 13 and 11, would be going out fora rare family meal to celebrate. As my mother had been dead for 16 years at that time and lived alone, this event was to be a big deal! After my brother left at 7:30pm and headed out towards the freeman back to home locality, as this new lady (he was recently divorced).h2e was in a hurry to get to his destination and enjoy the company of this woman. At about 8:15pm an elderly couple just driving home saw a car flying along so fast that they both remarked to each other "well he's certainly in a hurry to get somewhere" and my brother's car went out of their view. There WAS other traffic on the road that saw my brother fly past them but I have no knowledge of their statements to the Police. Shortly after passing the elderly couple my brother hit a large rock which must have been slightly off the actual road surface and he lost control and the car was observed to flip up in the air and spin several times before landing back on earth and immediately bursting into flames. We did not know until after the autopsy that my brother died of a broken neck before the car burst into flames and neither did the couple that were several minutes behind when they came upon the wreck, nor did the other motorists who were just going about their evening only to come upon a burning crash which, although we know that a couple of men DID try to get close enough to the vehicle to try and drag my brother out, but it was impossible to do and far too late anyway! So on that ordinary August evening my brother died due to driving over 30km/h over the speed limit depriving his children of their dearly loved father, and all these innocent road users were left with nightmares and PTSD from seeing a burning car and smelling burning fkesh being totally unable to do anything except for calling 000 and a lady waited for a date who would NEVER arrive! I was at home with both my daughters watching TV and sorting out grass for our guinea pigs when there was a knock at the door. As it was past midnight abd we were not t expecting company my girls and I looked at each other wondering who could it be and so I got up and went to answer it. I found 2 Police Officers standing there and the Sargent asked to come inside as he had some "bad news" to tell me. At that moment I was thinking which one of my 3 sons it was who was dead. When he said that it was my brother I admit to being relieved. I realised then that my sister-in-law had sent them to me so that I would go and break the news to my father.I saw the Police to the door, got dressed and left on the 90 minute trip to my father's home. Telling him that his much loved only son was dead was the HARDEST thing I have ever had to do. I know that this is terribly long and I apologise but I wanted to explain how the most mundane nights can change MANY lives forever if you speed! It kills! Thanks for reading.

The Whole World is a Stage and everyone plays a role. My favorite role is being a Villain. What is your favorite role?
Neo
All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages.

Do you think Valentine's Day is a day for romantic gestures, or only there for businesses to profit from?
IdentifyAs
I don't think we have chivalrous gentlemen anymore, or they have been put off by these women who don't have the slight bit of feminine wiles. I was married to a pig who was incapable of even uttering a kind word or compliment. I did have a young man who gave me his seat at a funeral and another older gent who opened a door for me. I was very grateful and thanked them. and yes it is too over commercialized. You don't need to spend a bomb or be ostentatious to tell someone you love them.

I recently took on a position and found myself in such a toxic work environment (in a Professional office) that it literally made me sick for two months. When the issue was addressed about where the behavior was coming from, it was put off as a "misunderstanding" because I was new. Many people say never go to H.R because it makes you look bad and because it won't be resolved. It will be investigated but if no proof because the toxic atmosphere happens when the boss...
Julie K 348980
In my last job a woman who thought she was my supervisor (she was in fact a co-worker) said “do you think I give a &@^% about anything you have to say”. Not willing to put up with that behaviour I walked into my boss’s office and handed in my immediate resignation. He asked why, I told him and he asked me to wait for 10 minutes whilst he sorted out the matter. He called a department meeting and made her apologise to me in front of everyone. I stayed at the company for many years and was very grateful when she was transferred to another location.

I have a Will, (it's a bit old and needs an update) but my partner does not have a will. We also have a business together. We are not married, (but been living together for 41 years this April - so yes I know de facto status etc comes into play). But given our surnames are different, I think it would be much easier all around if he had a Will too. He wants to, it's just one of those things, 'yes I'll get around to it one day'. His Mum recently...

Will is done, funeral paid for, and memorial stone installed. I didn't want to leave preparations to chance and burden someone else who might question if they are fulfilling my wishes.

During COVID-19, all schools were closed and everyone had to work and study online. Usually almost everyone always wished to work from home but once they actually had to do it, that s when it wasn t so funny or comfortable as imagined. So now that we can go out again. If you have the option to send your kids to school or do the same thing online, what would you do?
Agonis
I am home-schooling my children and they have regular meetups with the other children that are also homeschooled in the area. I was already studying online when covid happened. I much prefer working and studying from home as there are fewer interruptions. My son has thrived in homeschooling as he has the option of choosing what he studies (within reason) he has additional needs and there are no small class options in the area so this works best for him and we did not utilize technology, he has been doing pen and paper, educational books and social skills by visiting the community centres to see other homeschooled families.

Before Covid19 hit, there wasn't a day that went by when we didn't hear Greta being spoken about. But things have certainly gone quiet haven't they? The media have bigger fish to fry.

Why is everyone giving this incredibly intelligent and well informed girl so much grief? How much do you know about her? The Matrix summed it up: We are a virus! It is time we love our earth mother. She is not led by others and is not selfish, unlike the shortsighted many. I am disheartened by the ignorant, uninformed and selfish views of many below. I hope Gaia haunts you all in your dreams!!!!!!!!

Mad wars. Plagues of destructive viruses. People are out of control. Philosophy and logic downgraded. Science outranked by mythology and religion. Religion that does not even follow its own basic teachings.
PatCat
Throughout history when were we ever peaceful for long? I was born at the beginning of World War 2. All my life there have been wars and rumours of them. Religion has been tried and found wanting. Wealth breeds corruption. So we are just a huge heap of apes with big brains. God must have realised by now that he should never have let Eve eat that fruit! On that note peace to you all my fellow Rewardias.

We've heard the heads up about a recession, while most of us are feeling the pain of increased day to day living costs. Is there anything you are doing to prepare for tricky times ahead?

Making everything just about at home. Walking everywhere, homemade craft activities for the kids, homeschooling, doing surveys and anything extra I can for extra money.

Why are foreign owned companies allowed to pretend that they are local... Energy Australia for example is Chinese....why are they not legally obliged somewhere to state that this is an International company....the other strange thing...why don't companies that ARE local point out this to their customers either?...to me that is a very important reason for choosing them...what do you think?
Witchypoo
Let’s just keep Australia for Australians! You can’t get more local than that. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie! Oi, Oi, Oi!,

As many women know, being in a relationship with a guy who is not fully matured can be a difficult situation. To give a little context, I have been in a relationship for over a year with a guy who s quite young and doesn t fully understand the ways of a relationship and how to make the girl happy. There have been a lot of issues where there is no communication, yelling over little things, shit talking / letting his friends talk bad about me, never taking me out, complains...
lippy loo
Why are you still with him. The old saying "a leopard never changes it's spots" is true. Some partners might temper their actions but it usually comes back out again. Firstly he is younger than you and this is not really the ideal situation. You are being a doormat. He disrespects you big time. You are there just to do his bidding whether it be cooking, cleaning, physical or financial. Get some respect and leave or if it is your place ask him to leave immediately.

I've been told that our cat might need upto 1500 dollars of dental work, which is rediculous, we can barely afford our own dental work, so I think when the time comes and he shows signs of pain, we will probably do the humain thing and have him put down.

I do believe the technology era is making us part of it too. How will people feel in the future when machines replace essential jobs? And then not essentials, but as many as machines would cover. Can you imagine coming to school without a teacher? Can you imagine coming to a supermarket without the usual counter stuff or people who sort out all food on shelves? Can you imagine buses and trains without drivers? No doctors or nurses, no postman, no barrister or...
Lyn A.
There is a place for technology. Personally it has spread my "social life", Can chat with people I have met from other countries. Some people deserve to lose their job to machines, at least machine might be polite and actually try and help.Maybe a machine will not indoctrinate child to their own views as many teachers do.There are pros and cons. Guess maybe if/when a machine could show artificial emotion [as many people do] they may work in better

I became a caregiver 4 and a half years ago. I had to give up any chance of working. A caregiver is on call 24 hours a day. There are flexible hours, but I needed to be at home all the time. Especially in the beginning. If it wasn't for survey sights, I would have gone broke and crazy. Why don't governments help caregivers? What can be done to give them a living wage?
Pearlz
Some years ago I sprained my ankle, 2 weeks later I broke my knee, 2 weeks after that during a routine X-ray the doctor found my ankle was broken. My cast was getting bigger but just as I was starting to feel better renewed pain in my foot sent me for another X-ray and the other side of my ankle was broken. As I was very incapacitated my husband had to take time off work without pay and we felt it very unfair that we weren't entitled to any form of Government assistance. So no pay and loads of medical bills while other people manage to get heaps of assistance. All caregivers should get some sort of assistance.
Nov 06, 22

If so, what did you see hear smell or feel that couldn't be explained by the five senses. What was your response? Did you share your experience with others?
Pearlz
I have never had a Paranormal experience but I do sense things. I will go to the letter box and know that a certain letter that was not expected is in it. I also know who people are despite never having met them or even seen them before. I used to know who was on the phone when it rang, now it tells me so I don't know if I can still tell who it is. My daughter and I would go shopping in different places but when we got home we would find we had been in the same stores but in different suburbs, and bought the same things. There are other weird things like knowing what people are going to say on TV or know the plot way ahead of time. I don't think it's supernatural or anything like that, I just put it down to being super attentive and noticing things other people don't.

With the shortages of staff in hospitals, wouldn't it be a good idea to bring back some of the matrons that did hands-on training in hospitals. As I remember, we had some really great nurses trained in this way. Instead of sending them off to University, they could be trained in the same manner as apprentices. It could help fill the hole that we have now, with shortages all over Australia.
Pearlz
The problem is that nurses are sent to university then into hospitals. In the old days you started emptying bed pans before you decided whether or not it was the profession for you. Now they are sent to university then have to empty bedpans. Wouldn't it be a bit of a shock after years of schooling? Why would anyone spend years studying then perform back breaking work, changing dressings, wiping bums and the like when they could be earning much more in the corporate world. Starting at the bottom then studying your way to the top is always the best way to fill the ranks.

Driving into the hills one day the forecast was rain, as I got to the top of the road I was on and turning left I saw in a paddock a herd of goat, what struck me as odd was that every goat about 25 all stood facing the same direction and not moving, it's not the first time I've seen this. Couldn't help think that the devil's pet is a goat, or was it just something like the forecast for rain?
Joe King
I get the same sort of sensation when I walk into the women's change room at the local swimming pool. They all scream and turn in the same direction.

Surveys often want to how many painkillers and cough medicines you buy in a year....if you say none you are instantly flung out...and on TV there is a constant barrage of adverts telling which painkillers and cough medicines to buy...who is buying all this stuff?...if you are buying it regularly...like groceries...do you think that is normal?...why aren't people going to see doctors?...this industry is raking in millions of dollars...what do you think?
IdentifyAs
Because of being locked up, our natural immunity isn't being strengthened. People with normal immunity might get sick for a few days. Elderly and immuno compromised people will die. I always have painkillers/cold-flu tabs and immediately take more rest, hot soup and orange juice, tea with lemon and honey..You can't go and see a doctor now. If you have a runny nose they won't see you. We need to be more aware of our immune systems, I take supplements to keep me healthy and eat good food (vegs and fruits). If you give your body a fighting chance rest will allow it to get well and form immunity. Nothing has changed since this Covid garbage came around, they have just given it all a new name to panic us.

If you had the chance to go anywhere - or travel back in time to see your favourite bands or singers performing, who would they be even if they are long gone? Hard to choose Pink Floyd and Steely Dan up there for me, Tears for Fears back in the day, def Alan Parsons

Beatles, Queen when Freddy was live, ABBA back in the day, Skyhooks at Sunbury. Oh but I would have loved to be at Woodstock. Bette Midler again. Oh so many

When I was 15years & 10months old, I met the man who was to become my husband. I actually asked him if we could get engaged as he was due to go in the Army & do his 2 years national service. I waited till he came out of the army so when I was 18 years & 1 month, we had a white wedding which was a dream of mine. This coming September we will have been married for 62 years. We have had our "ups & downs" as they say but we have always been able to sort them out. If I had my way again, it would be exactly the same except for a bit more travelling than what we have done. I have been disabled for the past few years & he has become my carer. He now does the cooking whilst I sit at the table & do the food preparation. We work as a team & always have done. Plus I still love this man, my husband after all these years.

Interested in when people decide to write a Will is it when you start a family?
Charm
Not having a Will is being extremely selfish expecting your children to clean up your mess. My MIL died a year ago and refused to ever make a Will, she was the absolute worst hoarder in NSW, we're still clearing the property it's an absolute nightmare then there's Letters of Administration to file in the Supreme Court, if she just thought about anyone else but herself it would have been a lot easier.

DNA kits are useful for discovering your roots, as well as identifying potential health conditions. I have never heard of 23andMe until it came up when I Googled Ancestry DNA. I am really keen to have this done but my cousin feels it is a bit dodgy. I guess she means mad scientist somewhere down the track using our DNA without our permission for research for God know what. I am just really interested in my family roots. I would rather not know if I had...
Skiwi
The only thing I would worry about is having my DNA out on some database and not having any control over it.

Since we are all basically anonymous here, do you believe everything that you read in the comments sections. I personally am starting to wonder if some participants make outrageous comments that may not reflect their true opinions just to see what reactions they get. But I don't care either way as I enjoy following the regulars and pondering who they really are. I may even have assigned some of you faces and personalities according to my opinion of the tone of your posts.

It's been suggested by both major parties in Australia to increase the retirement age. (The age of 70 has been mentioned.) I have a relative who retired about two years ago due to hip problems. He was a former truck driver. Lucky for him...he has enough money in superannuation to rely on. (Do you think that it should be raised?) Not everyone has got enough of the super...and if their health isn't what it used to be...it might be a struggle for some. Some might find...

What books have you read in the past that made you really think, it opened your eyes? I like to read stuff about COVER UPS. People that have experienced things and revealed information... especially when it's not political-correct to do so or the mainstream media didn't want to touch it. These sorts of subjects are often on videos as well... these days.

"The happiest man on Earth" by Eddie Jaku. "The Auschwitz Photographer" by Maurizio Onnis and Luca Crippa. "The Tattooist of Auschwitz" by Heather Morris. If those three accounts of the Appalling things that can be done by Human Beings to Innocent men, women and children - 6.4 million members of the Jewish religion and another 7.3 millions simply because they did not fit in with the beliefs of a Dictator and his collaborators - do not convince you that these monsters should be stopped then nothing will.
Hitler described the Polish people & those of the Jewish faith as "Sub-humans, the "Scum of the Earth".
The Russian Dictator, Vladimir Putin, has used exactly the same words to describe the Ukrainian People.
He Must be stopped or he will, just like Hitler, exterminate them as well.

Do you ever lend money to family and friends, and if you do are you expecting them to pay you back or not to pay it? My experience has been that whenever I have lent money to friends I always get it back, as for family they just disappear for a while and when they do show up somehow they completely forget about it. So now I just don't lend family any money and if I do in certain dire circumstances I don't expect it back. What are your opinions on it.
Viola9
I've lent money to my sons now and again. It's usually my idea to do it and often I end up telling them not to worry about paying it back. One example was my eldest son one day telling me he was going to get a solar system installed and how much it was going to cost paying it on a plan. Worked out double the cost so I said I'd give him the money and he can pay me back when he has that amount saved up. Then my other son needed money for something some time later and I gave him money for that. In the end I told them both not to worry about paying it back. I have a fair bit sitting in the bank. We don't need much to live on because our house is paid off. We aren't big spenders going on holidays etc and the money will be theirs not so far down the track when my partner and I are no longer here so I figure why not let them have some of their inheritance now. One thing I always do though. If I give to one I give the same to the other so there's no favouritism.

I recently started study in NZ University. I am almost 33 years old. Furthermore, I believe education is an important part of our lives. And I feel good about it. I got very diverse feedback from others. Would you go back to school to educate yourself after 30s, 40s or even older? You have money and time for it - Would you go?

Of course I would! After having both my daughters I decided to go back to school and so glad I did! They are now 26 and 17yrs old and I’m working in the field I went to school in. Your never too old!

Australians are getting fatter. And experts say diets just don't work in the long term. But should we be looking at this debate differently? Can you be fat and healthy? And are people resorting to surgery too soon?
Smiley
I believe that some can be both overweight and healthy.
As a teenager, i was the "fat kid" and always picked on, but it was also during these years that i was at my healthiest. I went for 15km walks at least twice a week, i was quite strong, being able to pull/push carts loaded with up to 250kgs (bags of soil/fertiliser, etc), i was quite active as well, enjoyed playing soccer and squash as often as i could, i went bushwalking and worked on the farms of family friends (fencing, marking lambs, helping in the shearing shed, digging up paddock weeds by hand/mattock, etc)
I don't think it is fair to tar all larger framed people with the same brush. Some overweight people can be quite fit and healthy, others not so much, while others are all overweight due to medication they need to take.

I worked in aged care for 45 years some of the staff are good but others are only there to get paid they have no empathy for the elderly I always said it would be over my dead body that my mother went into aged care but if there is no one to care for them in there home it makes it hard I moved home to be here for my mother and I am her full time carer she is now 97 and still heathy and on no medication

I've been communicating with my friend overseas for almost 3 years now, and have become quite close. With all the uncertainty in the world now, it is unlikely we will be able to meet in person. Any ideas on how to keep the relationship fresh and exciting?
Edward S 497347
The advice here starts with a question:- Have you met each other in person yet or not?
IF NOT, You do not know how well you would get on together once you do meet.
IF you have only met online and communicated online, emails and by phone, it could be risky because people online often lie and mislead the other person into believing they will meet one day and have feelings for you, when in fact they have no feelings for you and have no intention of meeting in person.
Too many scammers online.
IF you have NOT yet met in person, use a "Scammer Test" which I have divised as follows:-
1) Write a list of questions to ask the person. Once you ask him/her write down their answers; then wait a few weeks and ask him/her the same questions again...If their answers are NOT the same as the first time then you know they are lying and it's a scam.
2) Ask them to send you a photo of themselves, wait a few weeks then tell them you would like more photos of them; then compare the photos.
3) Take step 2 further and ask him/ her for a video chat; so you can confirm what they look like and if they refuse or give excuses continuously not to do that, then its a scam.
HAVING PASSED ALL OF THE ABOVE TESTS.
How much does this person mean to you?
Is the person worth waiting for?
IF yes, keep the relationship fresh by being romantic online, if you both have cameras arrange a time where you can have dinner together online...Meaning each of you at your own home, on camera, eating together.
Use emails / phone calls to tell each other about your day as if you were in a relationship face to face.
Finds things to do online together which you both enjoy doing.
Try something old-fashioned like writing long letters to each other and mailing them to each other by 'Snail Mail"...Everyone enjoys getting mail and the excitement builds up while waiting to receive and read the letter.
IF you have never met in person; NEVER send the other person money or valuable items in case it is a scam.
You said you've been communicating with your friend for over 3 years, but yet, the covid-19 pandemic has only existed for just over 2 years; therefore ask yourself and your friend why you never met in person BEFORE the pandemic hit the world.
GOOD LUCK!

Do you think that the average citizen understands what combat troops actually experience and how this can affect them mentally? Young men and women return from combat zones where they see people being killed and are then are often discharged from the military. They then try to lead a "normal" life among people who can not imagine what the ex service person has experienced.

I knew a few kids that were adopted when I was a kid! One couple... had a few kids that they adopted, her being a neighbor of ours! At high school..a few kids were adopted that I knew as well. What's your view on adoption? Should people when they are old enough, be allowed to or encouraged to find their real parents?
BLM
One, I am completely in FAVOR of adoptions at the county (government level in the usa) or you are just buying a baby (which is illegal in the usa - but not really enforced). Two, if you are adopted (in the usa) - you legally have the right (now) to (when you turn 18) find your biological parent (which does not translate - into any sense they are your real parents - because any two idiots (female and male) can conceive a child). Three, alot of kids (I was one) are better off cutting off contact with their real parents (biological father and birth mother) - as soon as possible - I was a teen runaway. The first things that are cut (funding) in the usa - is social programs and education. Last, Child Protective Service (CPS) is a social program - ran at the county level - a child is on a waiting list before CPS can look out for the child (hopeful, the child lives long enough to become eligible for CPS services). Other words, I am in FAVOR of adoptions (because between 1.6 million and 2.8 million kids become runaways EACH YEAR - an indication that most parents in the usa - have lousy parental skills).

Should political Donations be stopped, or reduced? If we did that however there is a risk the smaller political parties will suffer, be less able to compete. Saying that, the bigger parties have too much influence. What's your take on this?
James
Stop the corrupt leftists for sure. Facebook, Google etc shouldn't be allowed to fund the demorat/communist parties!
Next they will fund Australian and UK Labor parties.
So yes, ban funding altogether

If you had the chance to change anything in the world and it could only be one thing, what would it be? Would it be for yourself or for the world? Would your change effect the world or only yourself? :)
Cuddles
I would change the pay-scale of politicians so that it became a job which only genuinely caring people get, not for the power and affluence as is the case now. It should be a position of caring for others, but at the moment it is a case that they seem to always put themselves first and foremost, (continually voting themselves increases in pay), not the people they supposedly serve. More people like the former president of Uruguay, President Mujica, who was said to be the poorest president in the world. He donated 90% of his salary to charity, chose to continue living in the farmhouse he shared with his wife, and drove an old VW beetle when he could have lived in luxury.

What's the best/worst compliment you have ever received from a stranger?
lippy loo
I had a photo taken for my passport and it was horrible and I aid I did not like it as it did not really look like me and this woman says "It's funny how we perceive ourselves as better than what we are" I thought how nasty. Left and went elsewhere and got a much more accurate and nicer photo.
She was either jealous of other women or just woke up on the wrong side of the bed but it stayed with me and I am now 71. Imagine if I was a teen and someone said that to me. I was 40 at the time and going through a nasty divorce so it did imprint a bit negative on my self esteem.

I would literally go nuts if I couldn't listen to music. It calms me down, it lifts my mood, it is my best friend as I walk around the house, doing the cleaning, digging the garden, the background to my life.

Do you have a family member you're not willing to speak to? I personally haven't spoken to my father in more than 5 years and have no regrets about it. I believe more in surrounding yourself with people you like, love and care about regardless to being blood related or not. I'm curious what are your thoughts?
'smee,SWQ!
We still don't speak to my Sister -In--Law or her husband who raped my wife over 35 years ago when pregnant with our 2nd daughter who we subsequently lost through the trauma...my wife's sister defended her husband saying he'd never do that! My wife says she never had that sister!
Oct 11, 21

Do you have a massive regret in life? Perhaps it's something you wish you did, but have never got around to doing, or something you did, but wish you hadn't.
Michelle S 553303
We ALL have regrets I'm sure but not lebe arning from those stupid, idiotic things that you did do would be my greatest regret of all. I wish that I would have listened to my FIL when he pleaded with me not to sell the home we had built on land he'd paid for. It was perfect for us and my 5 children and would have been for years to come, but I had been bequeathed a 3/4 share in a home which belonged to these elderly sisters I helped to care for in the community and whereas I could simply have paid off the animal welfare organisation that they bequeathed the other 1/4 to and paid my share of the lawyers exorbitant fees and then, after the sale was completed, I could have paid the mortgage on the home we had built, bought my now ex and I a car each and then STILL had money left over. We moved in the weekend my mother died and because the home phone had been switched off at our old residence for a few hours before going on at our new address my mother had passed away of cancer. I missed being with her AND my father was alone with her when she died. He'd been trying to call the home number but couldn't get on to us so he eventually rang my mobile. We'd spent the whole weekend moving houses and my plan had been to go and stay with her that Monday after I got the kids off to the bus stop and remain with her when she died. My old home was officially sold that Thursday and for some reason we had to be there to hand over keys or something, but we were over an hour away from the Chapil where my mother's funeral was to occur at 11am and I still had to pick up the wreath along the way. We were late of course and my father knew that something fishy was going on that week but I didn't want to tell him what we'd done because he'd told me in no uncertain terms NOT to move into the sisters home. I would NEVER make such a mistake as that now, but hindsight is a wonderful thing. We spent over $70K repairing the home as the sisters hadn't been able to afford to fix all the things that needed replacing and tearing down. That "tearing down" happened later that year when my my marriage broke up and a year after that when I couldn't sell the now lovely renovated home and 3/4 of an acre of land within walking distance to town and public transport, the bank came and foreclosed on it. So in 2 and a half years I destroyed my family's finances that we'd built up over 18 years or so and ended up bankrupt. It was, ALL of it, the most difficult experience to go through and the ONE decision out of ALL of life's bad choices that I wish I could change. I know it is shameful and worse because I hurt the very person that had helped me the MOST of anybody in my lifetime, but if anyone reading this can possibly get a family member or another loved one NOT to make a similar disastrous mistake then it's worth it. Thanks for reading.

Why can't people take responsibility for their actions anymore? Answer, the Government doesn't so why should anyone else? The example is set at the top. NZ currently has Saint Jacinda of Covid who cannot put a foot wrong according to her fatuous grovelling ignorant adoring fans.

I was reading about a woman (on twitter) whose 19 yr old daughter found a distinctive earring in one part of Sydney and then days later her 13 yr old found the exact same earring in another part of Sydney. Both had picked them up and not realized they had a pair until days later. It could be that they are a popular design, but in any case still a coincidence that siblings found each separately. Have you experienced any extraordinary coincidences?

I had an Online friend of 2 years. I ended up in hospital for a few days and said so on our Group discussion. I understand science's relationship to technology, but I am not talking (or writing) about that. I mean, in terms of viruses. Like the fact that a virus can escape from a lab, in the first place. I mean, I understand, the cures and trying to find an antidote, but when is it bordering chemical or biological warfare and when is it for an antidote? Basically, is there such a thing as TOO MUCH science?
lippy loo
Like all things there is good and bad. Science gave us the Atom Bomb and yes maybe the covid virus (unproven yet) but it has given us many good things also. Science is not the problem it's in whose hands it is in that is the problem. Sometimes I think they want to know too much and go too far and this is dangerous.

A colleague recently had three vehicles stolen plus other property by three teenagers who are not locals but travel regularly to our town to commit robberies and wilful damage. A policeman was seriously injured when one rammed a stolen car into his police car. Police state they are well known and have a long list of offences going back some years. How are they able to continue their crime sprees 'just for fun' with no regard for the trauma, costs and damage they cause?...
Edward S 497347
Here in Australia most violent home invasions and car thefts are carried out by Sudanese teens. Most rapes and sexual assaults are carried out by Indian and Asian males.
These Sudanese people come from a country where there is lots of violence and many poor people so stealing is their way of life in order to survive and this is instilled into their brains. Just like a dog or wild animal will bury their uneaten food, to return to when they cannot find fresh food to eat...
When these people migrate to another country this method of living is etched deep within their brain therefore they continue living that way in their new country. When these people ( and other people from violent and poor countries ) immigrate to new countries, the Government needs to teach these people that they DO NOT need to behave that way to survive in that new country.
As for the high number of Indian males who rape, attempt rape or carry out other sexual offending they come from a country where this type of behaviour is basically approved of and where some male police officers and defence force people carry out sexual crimes then get away with it. When these people immigrate to other countries the Government needs to teach them that this is NOT normal behaviour and NOT tolerated in that country.
Having said that; I MUST also add that I have nothing against the Sudanese, Indians or Asians and NOT all males from those countries behave in these ways; just some.

I was wondering if people who retired would be able to give some advice about when it is the right time to take his / her retirement: at 55, 60, 65? What is a good guideline? So the question would be: - When do you know when it is time to retire?
'smee,SWQ!
I was forced to retire at 60 when a raft of medical conditions culminated in my first heart attack...lost home, lost everything and now just on a Disability Pension - Rent alone takes more than half of that a fortnight - If you have the luxury of planning when to retire do it when you own your home and have enough in your Super or Savings to see you through to your expected Expiry Date!

Are people in general getting ruder, more selfish etc. or are people behaving generally in the same manner, but I m just more sensitive to it as I get older?
'smee,SWQ!
I believe it depends on the demographic Catherine! - If you learnt manners 50 or so years ago or more - you are, I believe generally quite polite but for those educated in the 80's onwards they're taught they are entitled and how dare you expect them to be polite (or anything as the world owes them a living and you'll not get in their way-smack on childish bottoms? No Way!)

In your opinion, have we entered it? Strange Happenings. Complexities occurring. Do you feel, what was otherwise "weird" years ago, is now becoming more commonplace? Detaching "non-ordinary" into something that is now a part of our everyday.

Yes of course, one of my houses is built on the site of a former leper colony. I have seen ghosts in there for the last 20 years. However they do not steal my beer so I am fine with them hanging out in the place.

There has been a bit of talk recently about raising the age of responsibility, from ten, to about 13, 14, in Australia. When a child commits a crime, should they be held responsible at the age of ten, or under? Does it also depend on the intelligence of the child? Your thoughts?
Therese M 73305
They will never learn right from wrong if they just get a slap on the wrist..I don't know about other countries but Australia there are alot of juvenile crime I ask the questions where are the parents ??? Why are kids out very late at night??? Can they control their kids?? Make the parents pay for damages or the stolen car perhaps they might spend time with their children instead of just collecting government money and using it for their own uses drugs gambling and alcohol .with my kids I knew where they were and who they were with and was definitely home by certain times
Jun 04, 21

I don't have any children, but I know more than a few parents, (and their kids), who were/are home-schooling. What do you think about the idea of schooling your children at home, these days with the way things are, well, quite frankly going to pot, in society as a whole. Are there still advantages to H/S? and do they make up for the changes that would necessarily have to occur in the family dynamic for H/S to start with kids who have been at public/private schools...
Christine M 323842
Homeschooling and online learning are two totally different things.
To homeschool your child, you need to get approval from the Education Department, and need to demonstrate to them the level of work that is being achieved. It is hard work, and you need to link in with other homeschooling families in order to share lesson plans and ideas, organise excursions etc. It becomes its own school community.
It’s not a choice that I would normally make, but was left with no other option for my 13 yo daughter at the time.
Unfortunately, as several people have said, some schools and teachers, are not that great at teaching. In fact some educational environments are so caught up in worrying about things that are not important like, wearing the right coloured socks, not mixing any summer uniform with winter uniform, making sure children have their hair in one of 28 approved hairstyles like Kim Jong-Un, that they forget they are supposed to be providing a safe, welcoming and nurturing environment.
Teachers are often the bullies. They have no life experience as they have never left school, so have no understanding of what’s going on in the lives of their students, and how to engage them. Schools and teachers (mostly) are not that good for many students.
What is needed is an improvement to our education system.

What would you do if you saw a mother hitting her child in public? Would you say something or just mind your own business?
Dale.K Chch NZ
as a parent of 2 special needs children ( now Adults in age) I would be aware of many different reasons, Child abusers who are the ones that are killing our children by abuse do not display their actions in public, and many time's discipline is more about safety issues, protecting the child from danger
May 06, 21

I heard on talk back radio that some schools are planning to stop mothers and fathers days because some children may not have a mother or a father. I don't agree with this as the children really enjoy these days and if they don't have a parent they usually have a grandmother aunt or uncle. What do you think?
Megsiemay
What sort of lunatic is advocating this nonsense? I didn't have a father after I was 11 - he died - but I didn't grow up all warped and twisted because my friends did. Teachers should stick to teaching the three R's. There are kids who can't read, write or do simple maths and their general knowledge leaves a lot to be desired. So glad I'm at the older end of my life - too many stupid people in the world advocating crap thee days.

I notice that many who don't eat meat (vegans, some vegetarians) are ready to throw punches at those of us who do. Our morality is questioned many times, alongside our sanity. The same with some of us who eat meat, I've see fists thrown at those that don't eat meat, as well as, insults. Here's a solution, let bygones be bygones. Can't we all just get along?
Neo
I really wish these militant vegans and vegetarians would show the same respect to meat eaters as we do to them: I do not try to convert them to be meat eaters or give them lectures on why a diet including meat is best or how some plant based crops use more resources than animal farming so WHY don't these vegans/vegetarians do the same?

Are you concerned about low interest rates and how badly they are affecting many people? Banks are generally paying most -customers much less interest than even a few years ago. Have your savings dwindled down - lower, and lower as time goes on? Low interest rates have been great for mortgage borrowing, and investment. The downside is that it's also forced the cost of buying a home. Many people can't get a foot in the door because of much higher property prices. Do...

The government and banks should just let the market crash normally so prices of houses can go down. This fake businesses of propping up the housing isn't good for people trying to buy their first home. It's only helping those with investment properties.

Currently in most countries around the world, only rich women can access IVF treatments which is absolutely unjust. IVF should be made affordable for all women!

It may seem harsh but a law should be introduced to stop junkies and lifetime dole bludgers from having offspring altogether, some folks need to have a licence to have kids otherwise deformed and neglected, unwanted kids will be permanently dependent on welfare

When you buy a product or service, you expect to either receive what you pay for or get a refund or exchange when you do not so how is it legal that airlines and accommodation sites (for example) are not required to give you a refund when they have not provided you with a service you have paid for? So they told you to buy a dog with a fluffy coat. You bought that dog with a fluffy coat. Soon you realize that fluffy coat needs to be groomed every 6 weeks at the cost of 100 to $200. Do you take your dog into a groomer to get groomed or do you groom them yourself. I have a Cavapoo and I groom him myself. Am I very good? No but I always say it's better than nothing, I just saved $150 and fur will grow back. Maybe next time the result will turn out...

Do you watch sports on TV that you played earlier in life? If you do, does watching remind you of the good plays you made, the camaraderie that you had, and the sense of accomplishment that you experienced when you won? Would you consider watching live events or even coaching now? I miss playing, and I would love to hear from others who played. The game was all about winning and having fun, but it was also learning how to lose gracefully.

I played baseball at a high level right up unti I was 21. I was scouted by the Los Angeles Dodgers at age 17...they had the rights to me for 5 years. I injured my knee at 19 and got over sports immediately. The irony is I can HARDLY watch baseball on TV, it is far better live.

We are in the process of looking for a new home. Finally, we settled on a suitable property in our chosen location. We decided to offer the full price asked for. We thought we were getting a good deal. We tuned up to the Estate Agent's office to pay our deposit and were extremely upset when he told us that the price listed was a starting point for negotiations, not a fixed price, and that the sellers now wanted 30K more. Would we agree? No, I felt...
BLM
Gazumping is legally if it is based on a verbal offer; however, gazumping is illegally if it is based on a written offer (without stating the listed price was a starting point for negotiations). Still a lack of business ethics (under both circumstances) - which shouldn't surprise anyone on this planet (aka Earth)! FYI: Caveat Emptor applies in all business transactions (verbal and/or written)!

The fact is that overtourism is getting worse in cities where Airbnb is heavily restricted: in Amsterdam or Barcelona, the introduction of stringent restrictions on short term rentals have coincided with a steep increase in guest nights driven by hotels, and a surge in accommodation prices for travellers. Have you ever experienced overtourism?
Pearlz
I experienced it in Shanghai. As I stood looking at the lights along the riverside a crowd of Chinese people who were tourists came past and somehow sucked me into the middle of the them. They were so crowded together I wasn't able to get out and was dragged along with them. I felt pretty stupid as I was far taller than they were but clearly they are very used to being "together". I started to feel afraid as I had no idea where "we" were going so I fought harder and eventually I was able to get out at the back by slowing down. Then I had to find my husband who wondered where I had got to because one minute I was there but the next gone. I walked back as he walked forward and I was very happy to see him. I am now very wary of crowds.

While money is important for meeting basic needs and providing comfort, education has the long-term benefits of personal growth, opportunities, and social impact, making it more valuable in many respects. What would you say? What is more important in life, money or education?
BLM
You can achieve an education with money. Money offers financial stability. Money brings happiness (lack of survival issues). Money provides opportunities (on personal levels and business levels). Money offers social status, etc. (the more money you have - the better society treats you). 'We' all reside on a capitalistic planet (based on personal greed and corporate corruption). Other words, on a capitalistic planet - MONEY is WAY more important than attaining an EDUCATION (aka the Donald John Trump Effect/Capitalism). FYI: Money is not the root of all evil, people are the root all evil!

I have recently heard about 29 'Urgent Care Clinics' in Victoria, Australia. I even spoke to a family member, and she also had not heard. The Clinic is available for those with severe pain or broken bones that need urgent care. It is free. They may possibly help to free the hospitals in the emergency sections. Has anyone heard of these clinics before?
Tim @miAimTIL
Find your nearest Medicare Urgent Care Clinic
You can walk into any Medicare Urgent Care Clinic (https://www.health.gov.au/find-a-medicare-uccMedicare UCC) in Australia for bulk billed urgent care. Use the map to find your local clinic.
Urgent care is when you need medical attention for an illness or injury that can be managed without a trip to the emergency department, but cannot wait for a regular appointment with a general practitioner (GP).Medicare UCCs provide acute episodic care and treatment that does not require a hospital admission. This may include: minor infections, minor fractures, sprains, sports injuries and neck and back pain, urinary tract infections (UTIs), sexually transmitted infections (STIs), minor cuts, insect bites and rashes, minor eye and ear problems, respiratory illness, gastroenteritis, mild burns.
Medicare UCCs are open early and late, seven days a week. Please bring your Medicare card or number with you.The Government is investing $1.4 billion over seven years to establish and operate Medicare UCCs across Australia. This includes $644.3 million over three years from 2025-26 Budget to establish 50 additional Medicare UCCs, expanding the current network of 87 to a total of 137 clinics nationwide.

If a family member divorces their mate, do you treat the former in-law as an out-law? I do not feel you should have to sever ties with someone that has been considered as family for many years. It is really hard to cut ties with friends and family during and after a split. There are boundaries. What do you choose to do? Is it different in every case, or totally taboo?
NotFriedLikeMost
You answered yourself...."CONSIDERED as family".
When you divorce...you are divorcing THE ENTIRE FAMILY. Same as when you married...you married INTO THE ENTIRE FAMILY.
Only thing you should keep tabs on is if you had children together. You can be cordial, but you DO NOT need to be a part of their lives moving forward. And, by "their lives" I mean the rest of the family...not the kids, lol.
Cut ties, it didn't work out...oh well. You don't have to hate anyone, but you also do not have to maintain relationships "just because".

Should parents help their children buy their first home, or guarantee their mortgage? What about buying an investment property? What if there is more than one child, and you can only afford to help one?
Andrew C 287196
Nobody should be allowed to buy an "investment property" nor a "flip property" - it should be illegal to own more than the one house you actually live in. Anything else is just pure greed at someone else's expense and simply causes increases for house prices. 😠

Of all those, research shows the top impulse purchases are clothing, household goods, and food and groceries. What would you say? What do people buy without thinking?
BLM
Everything I buy I think about it (is this a want or a need) - do I still spend money foolishly on my wants (clothing and sneakers) - yes - can I afford to do so - yes - is it going to affect my standard of living (while I am still above ground) - NO! Could I blame this affection on clever advertising (buying without thinking aka impulse buying) - YES! Do I - NO! I have never been a 'saver' - because I enjoy spending money TOO MUCH. However, I have two tax-free-civil-service-retirement checks coming in every month, still getting interest from numerous saving accounts, and I am getting alimony from my ex-wife (till she dies, I die before her, or I get marry again (HAHA) before she dies). Life is SWEET, except for the annoying Christians trying to get me to 'save' my SOUL - I am a hard-core-atheist - WHY would I want to 'save' my SOUL.

When children are growing up & you find out that they are well-educated, or they are behind in their work, do you actually keep pushing them after school to pick up their pace or further their education for their future? I believe in a certain extent without going over board kids need to be kids & enjoy growing up as kids & do what kids do, but also without pushing too hard, lead them into the right direction in their education. I don't believe that kids need to stick their heads...

Easter is NOT about bunnies, but about a Living Lord Jesus Christ. Get to KNOW Him as your personal Lord and Saviour!

Scams are everywhere these days email, phone calls, SMS, and more seeking personal details for identity theft, investments, deep fakes, security, and romance scams. People lose millions globally. An older family member had her accounts hacked when someone stole her phone, even attempting to steal her pension by changing bank details. Luckily, they got nothing but the phone, though they took her confidence and security. I regularly get scam messages and block them, never...

I called in on a friend and she was on the phone and sat in front of her computer... She acknowledged me, and indicated she was on phone so I put the kettle on for a cuppa and went back to the lounge which is where her computer was... suddenly realised she was about to give someone access to her pc, and I jumped in and got her attention, she told me what was happening and I advised her to call technical support herself if she was having problems cos it sounded like a scam to me. She ended the call immediately, she made the phone call and it was a scam. Thank goodness I dropped in when I did.

Nothing is as it seems means that we aren't able to see the whole picture. Something may seem to be true, but we don't know all the facts. This is true from both a global perspective and a private perspective. I'll give you an example of how gossip in families can influence people's thoughts. How do you deal with that?
Tigera
I ignore it! I don't have time for gossiping. If they can't say it to my face it's not worth me mentioning it.

I wanted to catch an Uber to a large Restaurant...they quoted $56... I order the Uber to go to a nearby location without a restaurant...3 minutes walk away...$26......in another example...my son caught an Uber in the early evening today and the journey cost $26...when he wanted to come home later...the return journey was $56...HOWEVER the same return journey to a nearby house was $26... So if you are going out somewhere good it is expensive....an...

Duh! Do not use Uber or Door Dash. Most folks have driving licenses and cars (I do not so I walk places my friends with vehicles cannot take me) and with an intelligent prez and veep in the White House again, fuel prices are coming down fast! Our local Turkey Hill gas prices drop by a penny a day and have ever since Harris opened her big mouth to bad-mouth Vance and Trumpy! The reason for the high Uber prices? The Uber drivers are fixing their own 'guesstimated' rates! Too many of us are just plain too damned lazy! You drive to a gym and exercise for an hour and then drive home again or to work! How re walking to the gym and then back home? I walk about 6 miles a day to and from our local parks and I am 75 years young!

Hi all, I am interested in what vouchers Rewardia members redeem. I tend to get the Woolworths vouchers to help with the increased cost of groceries. Do members redeem to get vouchers for gifts, or hobbies?

Working too hard - it s true, we all seem to be chasing something. More money, higher status, the plush corner office, you name it. I see so many people trading countless hours of their lives to buy stuff they don t want to impress people they really don t like. End this madness. Invest in yourself. Take a break. Go on a vacation. Life is too short! What would you say? What are some bad habits people develop in their 30s?
Rosemary E 383382
For some it is buying everything on credit card, getting into heavy debt instead of saving for the items first as I was taught to do. To me doing that was a reward to myself. I have never had a Credit Card

In your dreams, whose home would you love to be invited to for Christmas. I have been tuning in of late for a bit of inspiration. After watching Nigella Lawson Christmas shows, she goes to the bottom of the list. Being prediabetic, she would tip me over the edge with the first mouthful. I wouldn't mind being invited to share a meal cooked by Gordon Ramsay or Jamie Oliver. Merry Christmas to all.
Andrew C 287196
The only reason to visit Gordon Ramsay would be to wash his mouth out with a ton of soap!! The guy shouldn't even be allowed on TV constantly swearing. 😠

Children growing up in wealthy families may seem to have it all, but having it all may come at a high cost. Wealthier children tend to be more distressed than lower-income kids, and are at high risk for anxiety, depression, substance abuse, eating disorders, cheating, and stealing. What are your thoughts? How does money affect personality?
DAphne 1604241
I'm surprised to hear this. The kids I knew from a higher income bracket seemed more confident than many others.

What about stepchildren who break up families with their selfishness and lies. I have had enough of that, especially with my husband's spoiled grown daughter who is almost 40 and still expects daddy to pay her way. She manipulates him and makes him feel guilty so he will give her money, even though she can afford to drink and smoke cigarettes and eat out all the time.
blunder boy
the horse has bolted here I believe, 40 and still manipulating dad who will never be reigned in, as a dad/grandfather I have tried to give my kids everything I can but as they grow older the most valuable thing I can give them is advise not help, its dad who needs to close his wallet, reliance is an addiction and his daughter needs to learn to live below her means, life is tough and dad needs to start teaching life lessons its the best thing he can do for his daughter

Communication is key to handling various values in a partnership. There are many long-lasting relationships among people of differing political or religious viewpoints. You might give your marriage a chance to survive if you can properly discuss and disagree. What are your thoughts? How do those who are married work through their differences?
Henrietta
Have read the comments with interest. I was 2 months from turning 16 when I met my husband at the local swimming pool. I was keen on one of the attendants but the one that walked me home was to be my future husband. The following day (Saturday) I ad to do some shopping at the local shopping centre & lo & behold, who do I see but my future husband (Dave). He couldn't remember the house number of the house where I lived, so he was riding his bike, hoping that by riding around, that it would jog his memory of where I lived. I called out to him & that was the start of us becoming a couple. That was the 30th June & on the 12th July, I asked him if we could get engaged as I knew he was going into the English army for 2 years National Service. Luckily, he said "yes" but I didn't an engagement ring until my 16th birthday which was in the August just prior to him doing his duty. We remained engaged until Dave got demobbed 2 years later which gave me time to save for my "bottom drawer" & to save up some money. The outcome of all this, is that last month we celebrated our 64th Wedding Anniversary. I can't say that it has always been easy but those 2 years being engaged gave us time to become friends, we've always tried to compromise & to talk things through. Afterall, we are each individuals with different opinions so you have to take this into consideration. We are both now in our 80's, do things together, as he does the cooking & I do food preparation, such as vegies etc. Still very happy to this day. Hope I haven't bored anyone with the story of my marriage.

One of the biggest barriers to sharing has to be ego. Some people simply won't admit that they have made a mistake. This may be through fear of how others might see them or because they believe they don't make mistakes (in this case it's usually somebody else's fault ). So, how is it with you? How often do you admit when you are wrong about something? Is it difficult for you to do so?
Roses
I don’t have a problem admitting I’m wrong …. My partner however has a saying that goes “I’m not always right but I’m never wrong”

If you could travel to anywhere in the world and money was not a constricting factor, where would you go ? I was supposed to do a tour of England, Ireland and Scotland in 2020, but unfortunately Covid intervened, and I since had to use the money for house repairs. I would do that trip if I could, and I would also love to see other places as well, maybe Italy and Greece. Where would you go if money was not an issue?
Asesh S
My wife is planning a trip for our 30th wedding anniversary to Switzerland and Netherlands so I guess that is where I would be going soon

Considering the shortage of tradesmen and other educated people, should post-secondary training and education be free?
MoB
Education is never free, the question should be, should taxpayers pay for all education or should parents pay for some of the education their children get.

I love watching cooking shows like Master Chef on TV, cooks from all over the world on YouTube and chefs on Facebook. I regularly am trying out new recipes, which fortunately are usually a success. My husband is very appreciative of my efforts. I especially enjoy trying out a variety of vegetarian dishes. What is your favourite recipe you would like to share?
Pongo
I once won a compèttion for a Canadian fair cake. But have lost the recipe if anyone has a copy could they please send it to me

You can buy a British car...that is mostly built in China American, French and German cars that are often built elsewhere Ford Transits and a lot of Teslas are now all made in China...a friend of mine recently hired a Kia car that was designed in the UK and manufactured in Slovakia...never been near Korea...how can that be a Korean car?...maybe it is time to give up on worrying about where cars are made?...and maybe it's time to stop paying top dollar for some...
MoB
Most cars will be made in China very soon. What the average Joe Blow doesn't seem to get is that China won't need a war to take over the western world. They own so much property in western countries, they control most of the western world one way or another. Our left wing goverments think the Chinese way is the way to go. I can only thank God that I was born when I was born an will miss the distruction of the western world as we know it.

How would you feel if you went to the eye doctor and found out that for 14 years this doctor has been hiding the fact from you that you have cataracts? You have been having vision trouble all this time and have been depending on others for transportation because your vision is not good enough to drive. Now you find out, and he is still trying to talk you into glasses, even though glasses make everything seem dark. Would you be angry? Would you sue the Dr?
lippy loo
What sort of doctor would do that. I was told I had cataracts for years but not bad but eventually he told me it was time to get the eyes operated on. I was informed all the time. I have an eye test every year and am sent a reminder. I am due for one now.
I think sometimes one has to change their doctor or medical person just to keep them honest and yourself in the know. My sister was very ill and her doctor for 10 years kept saying it was nothing. She passed due to cancer that has spread through her body and this so called doctors lack of care.
I always say get a second or even third opinion and if you still think something is wrong keep going. Many doctors fob women off as being hysterical, menopausal or whatever. Do not just accept their opinion. Investigate, educate yourself as much as possible and do not be afraid to ask the questions and demand answers. Of course, no need to be rude or abusive.

How do you go about with helping your kid who's being bullied at school and the teachers won't do anything about it? My daughter doesn't want me to confront these kids as it will make them bully even more. I feel lost in trying to support her
Secret Squirrel
Schools are very unwilling to acknowledge this unless it happens right in front of a teacher. Perpetrators are smart, they pick their moments. That being said if the school won't help you there are a few things I found with my youngest son helped. Listen, so they feel heard and validated, talk about your child's feelings.
Try and work out who is who in the zoo, your child's friends, the bully's as well as those that stand by do nothing . Encourage your child to avoid, those that harass them ,so not to be in an area of the school yard, walk away when being verbally harassed, ignoring them as bully's get bored pretty quick and move on if they can't get the reaction they want. If it gets physical they must report it to the teacher. Specifically in my son's case it got to the point where I told him to retaliate and stand up for himself as the teacher had no interest in his problems and would move him on. I told rhe school this, they weren't happy, but it made the bully think twice about tripping him over and pushing him down rhe stairs again. Finally I got a private councillor. After consulting my sons g.p he was put on a mental health plan* to support him and to get 5 sessions free of private councilling with a child specialist of my choice. Best thing I ever did. He had someone else to talk to,was given great advice, talked about coping with stress and bullying. * the session involved together councilling as a family and part individual which was confidential. Things rhe councillor thought I should know was discussed with my son and then we talked about it together. He continued going for 3 years. Now,he is 18,and happy, doesn't care who likes him or not and actually has had many of his ex bully's apologise to him. By the way ,when school found out about the councillor, they contacted them, but was told they couldn't discuss anything with them. The school offered a councillor for him, after 4 years of ignoring my son,we refused.

Wait until you have saved a comfortable nest egg, or travel while young and able? There's a conflict of opinion about whether our 20s and 30s are for exploration or hard work. What is your opinion? Is there room enough for both at a young age, or should young people be focused on securing themselves financially first (buying a house and securing a career)?
Rose de lune
Waiting for too long sucks. I think it's better done before retirement, while one is still healthy and able bodied. But, it can still be done after retirement too, depending on personal circumstances.

Certainly in Australia, our big bakeries seem to be using almost the same slightly raw tasting (but long-lasting) dough and making it into different shapes and then lying about what it is. We have baguettes and french sticks...sourdough bread...the bagels were some of the funniest...there has been no attempt to make it authentic, it's just the same bread in a different shape....most of it is rubbish...how are they allowed to lie to the consumer and sell these products?
Suzanne S 1017427
We have a great bakery here in my town, the owner/ baker is French..he makes authentic croissants, sourdough etc .
