I've lent money to my sons now and again. It's usually my idea to do it and often I end up telling them not to worry about paying it back. One example was my eldest son one day telling me he was going to get a solar system installed and how much it was going to cost paying it on a plan. Worked out double the cost so I said I'd give him the money and he can pay me back when he has that amount saved up. Then my other son needed money for something some time later and I gave him money for that. In the end I told them both not to worry about paying it back. I have a fair bit sitting in the bank. We don't need much to live on because our house is paid off. We aren't big spenders going on holidays etc and the money will be theirs not so far down the track when my partner and I are no longer here so I figure why not let them have some of their inheritance now. One thing I always do though. If I give to one I give the same to the other so there's no favouritism.

We've gone from paper everything to plastic to save the trees, now they are trying to reverse it back. We had an incinerator in our back yard, which alot of home rubbish was put into it & burned. They decided it was against the law & incinerators were removed. Maybe bring back the incinerator & maybe, we wouldn't have so much landfill like back in the 70's/80's. Like fashion, goes out of style but eventually comes back. Our Government needs to stop fixing things that aren't broke & working well with the planet & fix things that aren't working.

I believe that some can be both overweight and healthy. As a teenager, i was the "fat kid" and always picked on, but it was also during these years that i was at my healthiest. I went for 15km walks at least twice a week, i was quite strong, being able to pull/push carts loaded with up to 250kgs (bags of soil/fertiliser, etc), i was quite active as well, enjoyed playing soccer and squash as often as i could, i went bushwalking and worked on the farms of family friends (fencing, marking lambs, helping in the shearing shed, digging up paddock weeds by hand/mattock, etc) I don't think it is fair to tar all larger framed people with the same brush. Some overweight people can be quite fit and healthy, others not so much, while others are all overweight due to medication they need to take.

Having great music from the 60’s that was able to be understood,no swearing, lyrics made sense. Great TV shows that we’re funny,sometimes a bit naughty and no one cared. I worked in aged care for 45 years some of the staff are good but others are only there to get paid they have no empathy for the elderly I always said it would be over my dead body that my mother went into aged care but if there is no one to care for them in there home it makes it hard I moved home to be here for my mother and I am her full time carer she is now 97 and still heathy and on no medication

Use emails / phone calls to tell each other about your day as if you were in a relationship face to face. Finds things to do online together which you both enjoy doing. Try something old-fashioned like writing long letters to each other and mailing them to each other by 'Snail Mail"...Everyone enjoys getting mail and the excitement builds up while waiting to receive and read the letter. IF you have never met in person; NEVER send the other person money or valuable items in case it is a scam. One, I am completely in FAVOR of adoptions at the county (government level in the usa) or you are just buying a baby (which is illegal in the usa - but not really enforced). Two, if you are adopted (in the usa) - you legally have the right (now) to (when you turn 18) find your biological parent (which does not translate - into any sense they are your real parents - because any two idiots (female and male) can conceive a child). Three, alot of kids (I was one) are better off cutting off contact with their real parents (biological father and birth mother) - as soon as possible - I was a teen runaway. The first things that are cut (funding) in the usa - is social programs and education. Last, Child Protective Service (CPS) is a social program - ran at the county level - a child is on a waiting list before CPS can look out for the child (hopeful, the child lives long enough to become eligible for CPS services). Other words, I am in FAVOR of adoptions (because between 1.6 million and 2.8 million kids become runaways EACH YEAR - an indication that most parents in the usa - have lousy parental skills).

I would change the pay-scale of politicians so that it became a job which only genuinely caring people get, not for the power and affluence as is the case now. It should be a position of caring for others, but at the moment it is a case that they seem to always put themselves first and foremost, (continually voting themselves increases in pay), not the people they supposedly serve. I had a photo taken for my passport and it was horrible and I aid I did not like it as it did not really look like me and this woman says "It's funny how we perceive ourselves as better than what we are" I thought how nasty. Left and went elsewhere and got a much more accurate and nicer photo. She was either jealous of other women or just woke up on the wrong side of the bed but it stayed with me and I am now 71. Imagine if I was a teen and someone said that to me. I was 40 at the time and going through a nasty divorce so it did imprint a bit negative on my self esteem.

I wish that I would have listened to my FIL when he pleaded with me not to sell the home we had built on land he'd paid for. It was perfect for us and my 5 children and would have been for years to come, but I had been bequeathed a 3/4 share in a home which belonged to these elderly sisters I helped to care for in the community and whereas I could simply have paid off the animal welfare organisation that they bequeathed the other 1/4 to and paid my share of the lawyers exorbitant fees and then, after the sale was completed, I could have paid the mortgage on the home we had built, bought my now ex and I a car each and then STILL had money left over. We moved in the weekend my mother died and because the home phone had been switched off at our old residence for a few hours before going on at our new address my mother had passed away of cancer. I missed being with her AND my father was alone with her when she died. He'd been trying to call the home number but couldn't get on to us so he eventually rang my mobile. We'd spent the whole weekend moving houses and my plan had been to go and stay with her that Monday after I got the kids off to the bus stop and remain with her when she died. My old home was officially sold that Thursday and for some reason we had to be there to hand over keys or something, but we were over an hour away from the Chapil where my mother's funeral was to occur at 11am and I still had to pick up the wreath along the way. We were late of course and my father knew that something fishy was going on that week but I didn't want to tell him what we'd done because he'd told me in no uncertain terms NOT to move into the sisters home. I would NEVER make such a mistake as that now, but hindsight is a wonderful thing. We spent over $70K repairing the home as the sisters hadn't been able to afford to fix all the things that needed replacing and tearing down. That "tearing down" happened later that year when my my marriage broke up and a year after that when I couldn't sell the now lovely renovated home and 3/4 of an acre of land within walking distance to town and public transport, the bank came and foreclosed on it. So in 2 and a half years I destroyed my family's finances that we'd built up over 18 years or so and ended up bankrupt. It was, ALL of it, the most difficult experience to go through and the ONE decision out of ALL of life's bad choices that I wish I could change. I know it is shameful and worse because I hurt the very person that had helped me the MOST of anybody in my lifetime, but if anyone reading this can possibly get a family member or another loved one NOT to make a similar disastrous mistake then it's worth it. Here in Australia most violent home invasions and car thefts are carried out by Sudanese teens. Most rapes and sexual assaults are carried out by Indian and Asian males. These Sudanese people come from a country where there is lots of violence and many poor people so stealing is their way of life in order to survive and this is instilled into their brains. Just like a dog or wild animal will bury their uneaten food, to return to when they cannot find fresh food to eat... When these people migrate to another country this method of living is etched deep within their brain therefore they continue living that way in their new country. When these people ( and other people from violent and poor countries ) immigrate to new countries, the Government needs to teach these people that they DO NOT need to behave that way to survive in that new country. As for the high number of Indian males who rape, attempt rape or carry out other sexual offending they come from a country where this type of behaviour is basically approved of and where some male police officers and defence force people carry out sexual crimes then get away with it. When these people immigrate to other countries the Government needs to teach them that this is NOT normal behaviour and NOT tolerated in that country. Having said that; I MUST also add that I have nothing against the Sudanese, Indians or Asians and NOT all males from those countries behave in these ways; just some.

I was forced to retire at 60 when a raft of medical conditions culminated in my first heart attack...lost home, lost everything and now just on a Disability Pension - Rent alone takes more than half of that a fortnight - If you have the luxury of planning when to retire do it when you own your home and have enough in your Super or Savings to see you through to your expected Expiry Date!

Homeschooling and online learning are two totally different things. To homeschool your child, you need to get approval from the Education Department, and need to demonstrate to them the level of work that is being achieved. It is hard work, and you need to link in with other homeschooling families in order to share lesson plans and ideas, organise excursions etc. It becomes its own school community. It’s not a choice that I would normally make, but was left with no other option for my 13 yo daughter at the time. Unfortunately, as several people have said, some schools and teachers, are not that great at teaching. In fact some educational environments are so caught up in worrying about things that are not important like, wearing the right coloured socks, not mixing any summer uniform with winter uniform, making sure children have their hair in one of 28 approved hairstyles like Kim Jong-Un, that they forget they are supposed to be providing a safe, welcoming and nurturing environment. Teachers are often the bullies. They have no life experience as they have never left school, so have no understanding of what’s going on in the lives of their students, and how to engage them. Schools and teachers (mostly) are not that good for many students. What is needed is an improvement to our education system.

I experienced it in Shanghai. As I stood looking at the lights along the riverside a crowd of Chinese people who were tourists came past and somehow sucked me into the middle of the them. They were so crowded together I wasn't able to get out and was dragged along with them. I felt pretty stupid as I was far taller than they were but clearly they are very used to being "together". I started to feel afraid as I had no idea where "we" were going so I fought harder and eventually I was able to get out at the back by slowing down. Then I had to find my husband who wondered where I had got to because one minute I was there but the next gone. I walked back as he walked forward and I was very happy to see him. I am now very wary of crowds.

I called in on a friend and she was on the phone and sat in front of her computer... She acknowledged me, and indicated she was on phone so I put the kettle on for a cuppa and went back to the lounge which is where her computer was... suddenly realised she was about to give someone access to her pc, and I jumped in and got her attention, she told me what was happening and I advised her to call technical support herself if she was having problems cos it sounded like a scam to me. She ended the call immediately, she made the phone call and it was a scam. Thank goodness I dropped in when I did.

Have read the comments with interest. I was 2 months from turning 16 when I met my husband at the local swimming pool. I was keen on one of the attendants but the one that walked me home was to be my future husband. The following day (Saturday) I ad to do some shopping at the local shopping centre & lo & behold, who do I see but my future husband (Dave). He couldn't remember the house number of the house where I lived, so he was riding his bike, hoping that by riding around, that it would jog his memory of where I lived. I called out to him & that was the start of us becoming a couple. That was the 30th June & on the 12th July, I asked him if we could get engaged as I knew he was going into the English army for 2 years National Service. Luckily, he said "yes" but I didn't an engagement ring until my 16th birthday which was in the August just prior to him doing his duty. We remained engaged until Dave got demobbed 2 years later which gave me time to save for my "bottom drawer" & to save up some money. The outcome of all this, is that last month we celebrated our 64th Wedding Anniversary. I can't say that it has always been easy but those 2 years being engaged gave us time to become friends, we've always tried to compromise & to talk things through. Afterall, we are each individuals with different opinions so you have to take this into consideration. We are both now in our 80's, do things together, as he does the cooking & I do food preparation, such as vegies etc. Still very happy to this day. Hope I haven't bored anyone with the story of my marriage.

Most cars will be made in China very soon. What the average Joe Blow doesn't seem to get is that China won't need a war to take over the western world. They own so much property in western countries, they control most of the western world one way or another. Our left wing goverments think the Chinese way is the way to go. I can only thank God that I was born when I was born an will miss the distruction of the western world as we know it.

What sort of doctor would do that. I was told I had cataracts for years but not bad but eventually he told me it was time to get the eyes operated on. I was informed all the time. I have an eye test every year and am sent a reminder. I am due for one now. I think sometimes one has to change their doctor or medical person just to keep them honest and yourself in the know. My sister was very ill and her doctor for 10 years kept saying it was nothing. She passed due to cancer that has spread through her body and this so called doctors lack of care. I always say get a second or even third opinion and if you still think something is wrong keep going. Many doctors fob women off as being hysterical, menopausal or whatever. Do not just accept their opinion. Investigate, educate yourself as much as possible and do not be afraid to ask the questions and demand answers. Of course, no need to be rude or abusive.

Schools are very unwilling to acknowledge this unless it happens right in front of a teacher. Perpetrators are smart,they pick their moments. That being said if the school won't help you there are a few things I found with my youngest son helped. Listen, so they feel heard and validated,talk about your child's feelings. Try and work out who is who in the zoo,your child's friends,the bully's as well as those that stand by do nothing . Encourage your child to avoid, those that harass them ,so not to be in an area of the school yard,walk away when being verbally harassed,ignoring them as bully's get bored pretty quick and move on if they can't get the reaction they want. If it gets physical they must report it to the teacher. Specifically in my son's case it got to the point where I told him to retaliate and stand up for himself as the teacher had no interest in his problems and would move him on. I told rhe school this, they weren't happy,but it made the bully think twice about tripping him over and pushing him down rhe stairs again. Finally I got a private councillor. After consulting my sons g.p he was put on a mental health plan* to support him and to get 5 sessions free of private councilling with a child specialist of my choice. Best thing I ever did. He had someone else to talk to,was given great advice,talked about coping with stress and bullying. * the session involved together councilling as a family and part individual which was confidential. Things rhe councillor thought I should know was discussed with my son and then we talked about it together. He continued going for 3 years. Now,he is 18,and happy,doesn't care who likes him or not and actually has had many of his ex bully's apologise to him. By the way ,when school found out about the councillor,they contacted them,but was told they couldn't discuss anything with them. The school offered a councillor for him,after 4 years of ignoring my son,we refused.

Waiting for too long sucks. I think it's better done before retirement, while one is still healthy and able bodied. But, it can still be done after retirement too, depending on personal circumstances.

We have a great bakery here in my town, the owner/ baker is French..he makes authentic croissants, sourdough etc .

I guess they are trying their luck with a low ball offer to see if they can get lucky. The buyers want to get a lower price to reduce mortgage or if flipping have more funds to renovate. Also agree a lot of people want to walk into a house that\u2019s done up and ready to move into but they should expect to pay more if they want something like that. Keep firm in the asking price if it\u2019s comparable to others in the area and it\u2019s a reasonable asking price. Hope it works out.

I recently became a certified master composter in NJ, I learned so much about recycling and the costs these facilities have to pay. If they don't make money to cover their employees and the overhead they will shut down. Now that China won't take our recycling we have a huge problem. We use the items and we have a responsibility to get rid of the left over from the product. I am 1 of 6 people who are involved in collecting soft plastics for the Trex Co (plastic decking materials, etc.) and for every 1,000 pounds we collect we get a very nice bench. We are a small 55+ community and in 1 year we have collected 2 tons of plastic!!!! Win-win, cha-ching!!!!

As a child I was horrified to be told that our dogs were being fed horse flesh. Rabbits were the main protein food of many working class people during the Great Depression and on holidays as child I often hunted with my father for a "bunny" for dinner when we camped on a dairy farmer's property. Depending on circumstance and how desperately hungry I was I might try anything that looked like food from whatever source if that need arose.

I never had kids because I can't stand a screaming child and wasn't prepared to take the risk. It would have been my luck to get one of those babies that cry constantly. You may think that's a selfish attitude but I wouldn't have had the experiences I have had if I had kids. In my opinion..... anything for a quiet kid - including giving them a dummy.

To me family is so important and where I live we have four generations living in separate houses but on the same property. We don't live in each others pockets but I just adore having my great grandson around he brings me a lot of joy and I believe he keeps me feeling younger. I think it is sad that so many families seem to be separated.

Well if someone airs their dirty laundry on one of these sites, it's their choice and the site didn't ask them to air their dirty laundry, so it's not the site invading their privacy if they chose to air their dirty laundry. The sites are there for us to use, but it's not required to post personal information/air our dirty laundry.

I take medication for PTSD and it doesn't work 100% of the time. At least 2 - 5 nights a month I wake up screaming. Last time was a mumble and 2 screams and I THANK MY SON each time he wakes me and rescues me from the horrors I'm in. My vote is WAKE THE PERSON UP!!

Interest rates are still very low in comparison to historical rates but house prices make the current rates unaffordable. People are borrowing beyond their means to get the house of their dreams first off instead of buying small and working towards the house they really want. My parents built our childhood home when they first married and added on and made improvements as the family grew and needs changed. Our house was originally a 3-bed, 1 bath, 1 living room with a fireplace and ended up a 5-bed, 2 bath, 2 living rooms with an extended dining room and central heating throughout to accommodate the family of 7 that we ended up as. To a certain extent, people's greed and immigration has pushed up house prices, which also has an effect on the amount of interest they have to pay, regardless of the rates.

After having dark hair since I was a baby I find that I am loving my greys. I really think grey can look quite stylish. I see grey hair everywhere these days. Are people going grey at a younger age or are young people dying their grey. I really feel it is the latter. Dark hair on a older person with a sallow complexion looks comical. A good bottle of purple shampoo and let it be is my recommendation Ruth.

There is no "right" or "wrong" way. What you do with your own personal things is completely up to you and your own family. Nobody else's opinion matters nor is relevant. You might want to keep some, sell or donate some, or simply throw some out. You should course keep any legal documents and financial papers for a while though - people like the tax department can come back years later (in some places it can be 5 years, 7 years, 10 years, or longer).
