Discussions of the day

When do you think the world will be completely free of COVID-19 and everything will be back to normal? Personally I think it may take up to 5 years.
Victoria 315341
I think we are just going to have to live with this , have a shot each year just like the flu vac. I do think the precautions we have been using have been effective, no way have we seen the numbers of other bugs. Just take care and keep up the hand washing, and masks indoor major shopping centres and medical places.

I understand science's relationship to technology, but I am not talking (or writing) about that. I mean, in terms of viruses. Like the fact that a virus can escape from a lab, in the first place. I mean, I understand, the cures and trying to find an antidote, but when is it bordering chemical or biological warfare and when is it for an antidote? Basically, is there such a thing as TOO MUCH science?
lippy loo
Like all things there is good and bad. Science gave us the Atom Bomb and yes maybe the covid virus (unproven yet) but it has given us many good things also. Science is not the problem it's in whose hands it is in that is the problem. Sometimes I think they want to know too much and go too far and this is dangerous.

A colleague recently had three vehicles stolen plus other property by three teenagers who are not locals but travel regularly to our town to commit robberies and wilful damage. A policeman was seriously injured when one rammed a stolen car into his police car. Police state they are well known and have a long list of offences going back some years. How are they able to continue their crime sprees 'just for fun' with no regard for the trauma, costs and damage they cause?...
Edward S 497347
Here in Australia most violent home invasions and car thefts are carried out by Sudanese teens. Most rapes and sexual assaults are carried out by Indian and Asian males.
These Sudanese people come from a country where there is lots of violence and many poor people so stealing is their way of life in order to survive and this is instilled into their brains. Just like a dog or wild animal will bury their uneaten food, to return to when they cannot find fresh food to eat...
When these people migrate to another country this method of living is etched deep within their brain therefore they continue living that way in their new country. When these people ( and other people from violent and poor countries ) immigrate to new countries, the Government needs to teach these people that they DO NOT need to behave that way to survive in that new country.
As for the high number of Indian males who rape, attempt rape or carry out other sexual offending they come from a country where this type of behaviour is basically approved of and where some male police officers and defence force people carry out sexual crimes then get away with it. When these people immigrate to other countries the Government needs to teach them that this is NOT normal behaviour and NOT tolerated in that country.
Having said that; I MUST also add that I have nothing against the Sudanese, Indians or Asians and NOT all males from those countries behave in these ways; just some.

I have notice that members of rewardia.com - ATTACK a person by name calling - not attacking his/her logic - and I dislike admitting it - I have done it myself - more then once. I assume everybody on rewardia.com is at least 18 years old - so we should be able to restraint our worst impulse when it comes to Free Speech. If we can not do that at a website, Free Speech (that a person's has his/.her to express their opinion - you do not attack the person's opinion -...

There are 2 choices here. Read it and keep reactions to oneself OR Read it and react how you think you should. Better still how do react to someone who takes a potshot at you. If it’s too hot in the kitchen get out

I was wondering if people who retired would be able to give some advice about when it is the right time to take his / her retirement: at 55, 60, 65? What is a good guideline? So the question would be: - When do you know when it is time to retire?
'smee,SWQ!
I was forced to retire at 60 when a raft of medical conditions culminated in my first heart attack...lost home, lost everything and now just on a Disability Pension - Rent alone takes more than half of that a fortnight - If you have the luxury of planning when to retire do it when you own your home and have enough in your Super or Savings to see you through to your expected Expiry Date!

There has been a bit of talk recently about raising the age of responsibility, from ten, to about 13, 14, in Australia. When a child commits a crime, should they be held responsible at the age of ten, or under? Does it also depend on the intelligence of the child? Your thoughts?
Therese M 73305
They will never learn right from wrong if they just get a slap on the wrist..I don't know about other countries but Australia there are alot of juvenile crime I ask the questions where are the parents ??? Why are kids out very late at night??? Can they control their kids?? Make the parents pay for damages or the stolen car perhaps they might spend time with their children instead of just collecting government money and using it for their own uses drugs gambling and alcohol .with my kids I knew where they were and who they were with and was definitely home by certain times

I don't have any children, but I know more than a few parents, (and their kids), who were/are home-schooling. What do you think about the idea of schooling your children at home, these days with the way things are, well, quite frankly going to pot, in society as a whole. Are there still advantages to H/S? and do they make up for the changes that would necessarily have to occur in the family dynamic for H/S to start with kids who have been at public/private schools...
Christine M 323842
Homeschooling and online learning are two totally different things.
To homeschool your child, you need to get approval from the Education Department, and need to demonstrate to them the level of work that is being achieved. It is hard work, and you need to link in with other homeschooling families in order to share lesson plans and ideas, organise excursions etc. It becomes its own school community.
It’s not a choice that I would normally make, but was left with no other option for my 13 yo daughter at the time.
Unfortunately, as several people have said, some schools and teachers, are not that great at teaching. In fact some educational environments are so caught up in worrying about things that are not important like, wearing the right coloured socks, not mixing any summer uniform with winter uniform, making sure children have their hair in one of 28 approved hairstyles like Kim Jong-Un, that they forget they are supposed to be providing a safe, welcoming and nurturing environment.
Teachers are often the bullies. They have no life experience as they have never left school, so have no understanding of what’s going on in the lives of their students, and how to engage them. Schools and teachers (mostly) are not that good for many students.
What is needed is an improvement to our education system.

I notice that many who don't eat meat (vegans, some vegetarians) are ready to throw punches at those of us who do. Our morality is questioned many times, alongside our sanity. The same with some of us who eat meat, I've see fists thrown at those that don't eat meat, as well as, insults. Here's a solution, let bygones be bygones. Can't we all just get along?
Neo
I really wish these militant vegans and vegetarians would show the same respect to meat eaters as we do to them: I do not try to convert them to be meat eaters or give them lectures on why a diet including meat is best or how some plant based crops use more resources than animal farming so WHY don't these vegans/vegetarians do the same?

Or maybe death suffering and rebirth? What will you be doing at Easter?... I'd rather celebrate either way!
Ruth 404159
whether with family or not, i want to think about the reason we celebrate Easter and be thankful for the sacrifice that was made for us.

Do you think Leaders and Presidents should have age limit to run? Even normal work force make people retire by the age of 65.

Look at Trump! He should not have been allowed to get into the position he is in. Perhaps there should be a test of mental competence?!

My goodness! Has the pandemic brought out all the conspiracy theorists or what? It makes me so angry. Whilst these people talk about their freedom and how Covid19 is a hoax -- more people are dying. Disgraceful.
Jacq
2020 will not be remembered in a good way. What with Covid 19 and the terrible fires & typhoons the earth is not a happy place to live in at the moment. Better days ahead for us I hope

Do you believe in ghosts? And if so, have you ever seen or experienced a weird situation?

When I was seven I see. but is eyes and a cut off hand. very horrifying.I I only learned later, where was the Japanese battlefield before. can't see when I grow up.
Once staying in a hotel, the hotel actually gave us two people, a room with three beds. When I was sleeping, I heard someone talking to me in my ear. The problem was that I couldn't understand the words. He was like speaking French. I can't see anyone.

Currently in most countries around the world, only rich women can access IVF treatments which is absolutely unjust. IVF should be made affordable for all women!
Arthur
It may seem harsh but a law should be introduced to stop junkies and lifetime dole bludgers from having offspring altogether, some folks need to have a licence to have kids otherwise deformed and neglected, unwanted kids will be permanently dependent on welfare

Why would you subject Mars to such punishment? There's no mirrors, make up or labels, and worst of all no social media!!!!!!! What will they do?

Do you watch sports on TV that you played earlier in life? If you do, does watching remind you of the good plays you made, the camaraderie that you had, and the sense of accomplishment that you experienced when you won? Would you consider watching live events or even coaching now? I miss playing, and I would love to hear from others who played. The game was all about winning and having fun, but it was also learning how to lose gracefully.
NotFriedLikeMost
I played baseball at a high level right up unti I was 21. I was scouted by the Los Angeles Dodgers at age 17...they had the rights to me for 5 years. I injured my knee at 19 and got over sports immediately. The irony is I can HARDLY watch baseball on TV, it is far better live.

Has anyone been in a committed/married relationship for a few or many years, and realized that they do not love that person, and probably never did? You don't dislike them, but there is nothing there emotionally for you. In this case, there are no children. What would you do?
Morenita
Omg is that me talking………I really felt like I just wrote that. I can’t breathe lol it gave me anxiety I really thought I posted this. I’ve been separated from my husband since June that’s like 6 months. I’m still in shook I’ve been trying to survive this.
I’ve been married for 17yrs and been there done that. I was mentally exhausted dealing with his drinking problems but I stood by his side no matter what but at the same time I was losing myself. I’m so used to him seventeen years never thought I’d make it that far with someone. We have no children together. I do love him but I think I out grew him. I changed I stopped drinking to make things better but he was still struggling. He said I gave up on him and we were supposed to be together til death do us part. But I was losing my mind over him. What do you think?????? Now he’s been living in an Rv trailer…..so long story short, don’t stay if you’re not happy

When I was younger, I was always having holidays with my children, but now they are grown up and have their own lives. Should I still try to spend time with them in the holidays?
blunder boy
time spent with family is always worthwhile most of the times , my kids tend to treat me like a kid now because technology has surpassed my level of understanding, I had no idea my seniors card had a free bus pass on it until I spent 2 hours walking home having forgotten my wallet and I don't have a phone, where are all the phone booths ,I don't know life is moving way to fast

We are in the process of looking for a new home. Finally, we settled on a suitable property in our chosen location. We decided to offer the full price asked for. We thought we were getting a good deal. We tuned up to the Estate Agent's office to pay our deposit and were extremely upset when he told us that the price listed was a starting point for negotiations, not a fixed price, and that the sellers now wanted 30K more. Would we agree? No, I felt...
BLM
Gazumping is legally if it is based on a verbal offer; however, gazumping is illegally if it is based on a written offer (without stating the listed price was a starting point for negotiations). Still a lack of business ethics (under both circumstances) - which shouldn't surprise anyone on this planet (aka Earth)! FYI: Caveat Emptor applies in all business transactions (verbal and/or written)!

The fact is that overtourism is getting worse in cities where Airbnb is heavily restricted: in Amsterdam or Barcelona, the introduction of stringent restrictions on short term rentals have coincided with a steep increase in guest nights driven by hotels, and a surge in accommodation prices for travellers. Have you ever experienced overtourism?
Pearlz
I experienced it in Shanghai. As I stood looking at the lights along the riverside a crowd of Chinese people who were tourists came past and somehow sucked me into the middle of the them. They were so crowded together I wasn't able to get out and was dragged along with them. I felt pretty stupid as I was far taller than they were but clearly they are very used to being "together". I started to feel afraid as I had no idea where "we" were going so I fought harder and eventually I was able to get out at the back by slowing down. Then I had to find my husband who wondered where I had got to because one minute I was there but the next gone. I walked back as he walked forward and I was very happy to see him. I am now very wary of crowds.

While money is important for meeting basic needs and providing comfort, education has the long-term benefits of personal growth, opportunities, and social impact, making it more valuable in many respects. What would you say? What is more important in life, money or education?
BLM
You can achieve an education with money. Money offers financial stability. Money brings happiness (lack of survival issues). Money provides opportunities (on personal levels and business levels). Money offers social status, etc. (the more money you have - the better society treats you). 'We' all reside on a capitalistic planet (based on personal greed and corporate corruption). Other words, on a capitalistic planet - MONEY is WAY more important than attaining an EDUCATION (aka the Donald John Trump Effect/Capitalism). FYI: Money is not the root of all evil, people are the root all evil!

I have recently heard about 29 'Urgent Care Clinics' in Victoria, Australia. I even spoke to a family member, and she also had not heard. The Clinic is available for those with severe pain or broken bones that need urgent care. It is free. They may possibly help to free the hospitals in the emergency sections. Has anyone heard of these clinics before?
Tim @miAimTIL
Find your nearest Medicare Urgent Care Clinic
You can walk into any Medicare Urgent Care Clinic (https://www.health.gov.au/find-a-medicare-uccMedicare UCC) in Australia for bulk billed urgent care. Use the map to find your local clinic.
Urgent care is when you need medical attention for an illness or injury that can be managed without a trip to the emergency department, but cannot wait for a regular appointment with a general practitioner (GP).Medicare UCCs provide acute episodic care and treatment that does not require a hospital admission. This may include: minor infections, minor fractures, sprains, sports injuries and neck and back pain, urinary tract infections (UTIs), sexually transmitted infections (STIs), minor cuts, insect bites and rashes, minor eye and ear problems, respiratory illness, gastroenteritis, mild burns.
Medicare UCCs are open early and late, seven days a week. Please bring your Medicare card or number with you.The Government is investing $1.4 billion over seven years to establish and operate Medicare UCCs across Australia. This includes $644.3 million over three years from 2025-26 Budget to establish 50 additional Medicare UCCs, expanding the current network of 87 to a total of 137 clinics nationwide.

If a family member divorces their mate, do you treat the former in-law as an out-law? I do not feel you should have to sever ties with someone that has been considered as family for many years. It is really hard to cut ties with friends and family during and after a split. There are boundaries. What do you choose to do? Is it different in every case, or totally taboo?
NotFriedLikeMost
You answered yourself...."CONSIDERED as family".
When you divorce...you are divorcing THE ENTIRE FAMILY. Same as when you married...you married INTO THE ENTIRE FAMILY.
Only thing you should keep tabs on is if you had children together. You can be cordial, but you DO NOT need to be a part of their lives moving forward. And, by "their lives" I mean the rest of the family...not the kids, lol.
Cut ties, it didn't work out...oh well. You don't have to hate anyone, but you also do not have to maintain relationships "just because".

Genetics are fascinating, my sister is a mirror image of our mother looks, personality, love of fishing and camping, same taste in clothing, same tiny shoe size it's all there, they were often taken for sisters when Mum was younger. I was gifted with her medical issues thanks Mum.

My dad was strict due to his Danish family. Mum was of Scottish blood and strict but me. I am a softy when it comes to seeing hurt. My grandson is very soft and I feel his hurt and can only give him a big hard hug.

Should parents help their children buy their first home, or guarantee their mortgage? What about buying an investment property? What if there is more than one child, and you can only afford to help one?
Andrew C 287196
Nobody should be allowed to buy an "investment property" nor a "flip property" - it should be illegal to own more than the one house you actually live in. Anything else is just pure greed at someone else's expense and simply causes increases for house prices. 😠

Of all those, research shows the top impulse purchases are clothing, household goods, and food and groceries. What would you say? What do people buy without thinking?
BLM
Everything I buy I think about it (is this a want or a need) - do I still spend money foolishly on my wants (clothing and sneakers) - yes - can I afford to do so - yes - is it going to affect my standard of living (while I am still above ground) - NO! Could I blame this affection on clever advertising (buying without thinking aka impulse buying) - YES! Do I - NO! I have never been a 'saver' - because I enjoy spending money TOO MUCH. However, I have two tax-free-civil-service-retirement checks coming in every month, still getting interest from numerous saving accounts, and I am getting alimony from my ex-wife (till she dies, I die before her, or I get marry again (HAHA) before she dies). Life is SWEET, except for the annoying Christians trying to get me to 'save' my SOUL - I am a hard-core-atheist - WHY would I want to 'save' my SOUL.

When children are growing up & you find out that they are well-educated, or they are behind in their work, do you actually keep pushing them after school to pick up their pace or further their education for their future? I believe in a certain extent without going over board kids need to be kids & enjoy growing up as kids & do what kids do, but also without pushing too hard, lead them into the right direction in their education. I don't believe that kids need to stick their heads...

Not everybody needs to be a clever clogs. Where would the world be without its truck drivers, sales assistants, drain layers etc.

Rewardia has a lot of ads, and they don t bother me at all except for that little bunny .it freaks me out. It s bringing back too many childhood memories of my parents hunting rabbits at Kangaroo Valley then having to eat rabbit stew for dinner ugh! Scams are everywhere these days email, phone calls, SMS, and more seeking personal details for identity theft, investments, deep fakes, security, and romance scams. People lose millions globally. An older family member had her accounts hacked when someone stole her phone, even attempting to steal her pension by changing bank details. Luckily, they got nothing but the phone, though they took her confidence and security. I regularly get scam messages and block them, never...
Glenystas
I called in on a friend and she was on the phone and sat in front of her computer... She acknowledged me, and indicated she was on phone so I put the kettle on for a cuppa and went back to the lounge which is where her computer was... suddenly realised she was about to give someone access to her pc, and I jumped in and got her attention, she told me what was happening and I advised her to call technical support herself if she was having problems cos it sounded like a scam to me. She ended the call immediately, she made the phone call and it was a scam. Thank goodness I dropped in when I did.

Nothing is as it seems means that we aren't able to see the whole picture. Something may seem to be true, but we don't know all the facts. This is true from both a global perspective and a private perspective. I'll give you an example of how gossip in families can influence people's thoughts. How do you deal with that?
Tigera
I ignore it! I don't have time for gossiping. If they can't say it to my face it's not worth me mentioning it.

Working too hard - it s true, we all seem to be chasing something. More money, higher status, the plush corner office, you name it. I see so many people trading countless hours of their lives to buy stuff they don t want to impress people they really don t like. End this madness. Invest in yourself. Take a break. Go on a vacation. Life is too short! What would you say? What are some bad habits people develop in their 30s?
Rosemary E 383382
For some it is buying everything on credit card, getting into heavy debt instead of saving for the items first as I was taught to do. To me doing that was a reward to myself. I have never had a Credit Card

In your dreams, whose home would you love to be invited to for Christmas. I have been tuning in of late for a bit of inspiration. After watching Nigella Lawson Christmas shows, she goes to the bottom of the list. Being prediabetic, she would tip me over the edge with the first mouthful. I wouldn't mind being invited to share a meal cooked by Gordon Ramsay or Jamie Oliver. Merry Christmas to all.

Children growing up in wealthy families may seem to have it all, but having it all may come at a high cost. Wealthier children tend to be more distressed than lower-income kids, and are at high risk for anxiety, depression, substance abuse, eating disorders, cheating, and stealing. What are your thoughts? How does money affect personality?
DAphne 1604241
I'm surprised to hear this. The kids I knew from a higher income bracket seemed more confident than many others.

Communication is key to handling various values in a partnership. There are many long-lasting relationships among people of differing political or religious viewpoints. You might give your marriage a chance to survive if you can properly discuss and disagree. What are your thoughts? How do those who are married work through their differences?

Have read the comments with interest. I was 2 months from turning 16 when I met my husband at the local swimming pool. I was keen on one of the attendants but the one that walked me home was to be my future husband. The following day (Saturday) I ad to do some shopping at the local shopping centre & lo & behold, who do I see but my future husband (Dave). He couldn't remember the house number of the house where I lived, so he was riding his bike, hoping that by riding around, that it would jog his memory of where I lived. I called out to him & that was the start of us becoming a couple. That was the 30th June & on the 12th July, I asked him if we could get engaged as I knew he was going into the English army for 2 years National Service. Luckily, he said "yes" but I didn't an engagement ring until my 16th birthday which was in the August just prior to him doing his duty. We remained engaged until Dave got demobbed 2 years later which gave me time to save for my "bottom drawer" & to save up some money. The outcome of all this, is that last month we celebrated our 64th Wedding Anniversary. I can't say that it has always been easy but those 2 years being engaged gave us time to become friends, we've always tried to compromise & to talk things through. Afterall, we are each individuals with different opinions so you have to take this into consideration. We are both now in our 80's, do things together, as he does the cooking & I do food preparation, such as vegies etc. Still very happy to this day. Hope I haven't bored anyone with the story of my marriage.

One of the biggest barriers to sharing has to be ego. Some people simply won't admit that they have made a mistake. This may be through fear of how others might see them or because they believe they don't make mistakes (in this case it's usually somebody else's fault ). So, how is it with you? How often do you admit when you are wrong about something? Is it difficult for you to do so?
Roses
I don’t have a problem admitting I’m wrong …. My partner however has a saying that goes “I’m not always right but I’m never wrong”

If you could travel to anywhere in the world and money was not a constricting factor, where would you go ? I was supposed to do a tour of England, Ireland and Scotland in 2020, but unfortunately Covid intervened, and I since had to use the money for house repairs. I would do that trip if I could, and I would also love to see other places as well, maybe Italy and Greece. Where would you go if money was not an issue?

My wife is planning a trip for our 30th wedding anniversary to Switzerland and Netherlands so I guess that is where I would be going soon

Considering the shortage of tradesmen and other educated people, should post-secondary training and education be free?

Education is never free, the question should be, should taxpayers pay for all education or should parents pay for some of the education their children get.

I love watching cooking shows like Master Chef on TV, cooks from all over the world on YouTube and chefs on Facebook. I regularly am trying out new recipes, which fortunately are usually a success. My husband is very appreciative of my efforts. I especially enjoy trying out a variety of vegetarian dishes. What is your favourite recipe you would like to share?

After picking up a parcel at night recently, the front bumper bar of our Landcruiser caught on a section of a digger in front of us. No matter what we did, we could not free the car. Within minutes a neighbor came to assist to no avail. Then, just as we were going to call for help, a team of neighbors from three houses came and lifted the car free. We were relieved and very grateful that no damage was done. Their response and assistance were admirable. I am always...

YES! So many times, but I'll never forget the young man I talked to while waiting to get my hair cut at Great Clips. I was complaining about how much it cost, even with the Senior Discount, to get my hair cut, and how I only got it cut once a year. Well, after my haircut, when I went to pay, I was told "it was taken care of" and, when I offered a tip, I was told "it was paid for, too", by the young man, who had already left! I didn't even get to thank him. And, in the Commissary, after telling a stranger (lady) about how I was abandoned in 2013, how she came back to me, after walking away, and put 2 $50 bills in my hand saying "God told her to do it." There ARE still good people out in the world, and I'm happy to have met them, and that I am one, also. ;-D

You can buy a British car...that is mostly built in China American, French and German cars that are often built elsewhere Ford Transits and a lot of Teslas are now all made in China...a friend of mine recently hired a Kia car that was designed in the UK and manufactured in Slovakia...never been near Korea...how can that be a Korean car?...maybe it is time to give up on worrying about where cars are made?...and maybe it's time to stop paying top dollar for some...
MoB
Most cars will be made in China very soon. What the average Joe Blow doesn't seem to get is that China won't need a war to take over the western world. They own so much property in western countries, they control most of the western world one way or another. Our left wing goverments think the Chinese way is the way to go. I can only thank God that I was born when I was born an will miss the distruction of the western world as we know it.

How would you feel if you went to the eye doctor and found out that for 14 years this doctor has been hiding the fact from you that you have cataracts? You have been having vision trouble all this time and have been depending on others for transportation because your vision is not good enough to drive. Now you find out, and he is still trying to talk you into glasses, even though glasses make everything seem dark. Would you be angry? Would you sue the Dr?
lippy loo
What sort of doctor would do that. I was told I had cataracts for years but not bad but eventually he told me it was time to get the eyes operated on. I was informed all the time. I have an eye test every year and am sent a reminder. I am due for one now.
I think sometimes one has to change their doctor or medical person just to keep them honest and yourself in the know. My sister was very ill and her doctor for 10 years kept saying it was nothing. She passed due to cancer that has spread through her body and this so called doctors lack of care.
I always say get a second or even third opinion and if you still think something is wrong keep going. Many doctors fob women off as being hysterical, menopausal or whatever. Certainly in Australia, our big bakeries seem to be using almost the same slightly raw tasting (but long-lasting) dough and making it into different shapes and then lying about what it is. We have baguettes and french sticks...sourdough bread...the bagels were some of the funniest...there has been no attempt to make it authentic, it's just the same bread in a different shape....most of it is rubbish...how are they allowed to lie to the consumer and sell these products?

We have a great bakery here in my town, the owner/ baker is French..he makes authentic croissants, sourdough etc .

When it comes to meals, desserts, snacks, etc., everyone has their likes and dislikes, but there are two things I can't recall anyone ever saying they didn't like: pizza or ice cream. Some people may not like certain ice cream flavours or pizza toppings, but I can't think of anyone who ever said they didn't like pizza or ice cream in general. So, it's made me want to ask: is there anyone reading this who doesn't like ice cream, or pizza, or both?

Ice cream is the 8th wonder of the world, I have a shelf dedicated to ice cream in my freezer, You can celebrate/commiserate wins and losses,It is the ultimate answer when the kids are in dispute it also helps with falls,It is a great reward for anything that needs a reward, there are so many ways you can eat it, It is a wonderful product heaven sent

They keep saying in the paper that people can't buy a home. My daughter has her house up for sale at the moment. It is in a reasonable neighbourhood, close to schools, shops and transport. It is 4 bedroom, 2 bathrooms and in the range for 1st home buyers. They keep coming up with the most ridiculous reasons to try to knock 100k off the price. I need to repaint, I need to put new carpet in. The best one has been, it is near a freeway. Well if you want to live in this...
Nomes 2024
I guess they are trying their luck with a low ball offer to see if they can get lucky. The buyers want to get a lower price to reduce mortgage or if flipping have more funds to renovate. Also agree a lot of people want to walk into a house that’s done up and ready to move into but they should expect to pay more if they want something like that.
Keep firm in the asking price if it’s comparable to others in the area and it’s a reasonable asking price. Hope it works out.

Went to the local recycling centre to get rid of some oil from car oil changes that I had done over the recent past. I accumulate the stuff until I have a reasonable amount as going there takes well over an hour and back including the time spent waiting to get in, pay, and drop off the oil. Over the years the price to do this has varied from 50 cents a litre to free to 90 cents. To my surprise the cost had now jumped to $2.50 a litre. Unbelievable. I...

I recently became a certified master composter in NJ, I learned so much about recycling and the costs these facilities have to pay. If they don't make money to cover their employees and the overhead they will shut down. Now that China won't take our recycling we have a huge problem.
We use the items and we have a responsibility to get rid of the left over from the product.
I am 1 of 6 people who are involved in collecting soft plastics for the Trex Co (plastic decking materials, etc.) and for every 1,000 pounds we collect we get a very nice bench. We are a small 55+ community and in 1 year we have collected 2 tons of plastic!!!!

These days, people are so impatient, especially on the roads. Who cares if it takes you a few extra minutes to get where ever you need to be. Is it really important to save those few minutes, as I don't? There is no reason that anyone can't wait for a minute. In my opinion. Isn't safety weighs more than running? More & more these days with huge rises to everyone with bills & our every day cost of living, hardly anyone can survive any more. It has forced many families for both parents to work to meet our daily expenses. On top of this, many families also have extra expenses on Babies & Children with all of their needs. One income doesn't do it any more unless both parents are CEO of a company, which is rare. That leaves parents with children to seek a nanny/babysitter. Not an...

I'm 57. Both my parents worked. Neither had CEO wages. I went to pre school as soon as I was old enough. My grandparents didn't babysit because they lived too far away. I'm tired of people whining about lack of money. If you get your priorities right there's no reason why you can't live and save on two incomes. It's been done for decades. In our today's society, vertically everyone uses internet & platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. I hate these sites for the fact that most people outlay all their dirty laundry here. What ever happened to keep your private life private. Most people that do this, simply don't realise what a can of worms it opens. I believe that you allow many times that certain people can target you & even to the point of getting harm. These sites are I suppose ok if you're just...

Well if someone airs their dirty laundry on one of these sites, it's their choice and the site didn't ask them to air their dirty laundry, so it's not the site invading their privacy if they chose to air their dirty laundry. The sites are there for us to use, but it's not required to post personal information/air our dirty laundry.

Should you wake someone from a nightmare? What do you think? Apparently it's best to leave the person alone & allow them to sleep through it. They are more likely to forget about the dream if they can continue to the end of it. Whereas, if awakened in the middle of a nightmare, it can make it difficult to forget the imagery or get back to sleep.

Have you ever applied for a job on Social Media? Just for the heck of it, I decided to give it a try just to see what would happen. I applied for three or four so-called jobs and went along with their questions. When they thought they had me hooked, they asked for my bank information. Of course, I did not give them that info. Be careful when applying for jobs, a lot of them are scams.

Does anyone still write in cursive, and if you were taught cursive handwriting, when did you go to school? I'm curious to know when it started to get phased out, as I was taught to print my letters in primary school in the 00's. What are your thoughts on how handwriting is now, especially with digital technology becoming more commonplace? Or how do you think handwriting etiquette evolve over time?
Gary P 1194496
I learned cursive many years ago. I am 68 now and I enjoy writing. It should have continued to be taught. Technology tends to lessen the thought process in my humble opinion .

Do you believe in saving a nest egg for your future life to when you retire from work? My answer is by all means, if you can afford it, in today's world. I find it so hard to keep up with everything that you hardly have any money left over to invest. Then, when you do invest, who do you trust? Home loan rates % will they come back down? I am hearing every month that they are rising, and people are becoming highly stressed and sadly starting to miss out on things, and in some case crucial things. My question is, does anyone know what is really going to happen in the near future? Will it get to the point that people can simply not afford to pay?
LindaB
Interest rates are still very low in comparison to historical rates but house prices make the current rates unaffordable. People are borrowing beyond their means to get the house of their dreams first off instead of buying small and working towards the house they really want. My parents built our childhood home when they first married and added on and made improvements as the family grew and needs changed. Our house was originally a 3-bed, 1 bath, 1 living room with a fireplace and ended up a 5-bed, 2 bath, 2 living rooms with an extended dining room and central heating throughout to accommodate the family of 7 that we ended up as. To a certain extent, people's greed and immigration has pushed up house prices, which also has an effect on the amount of interest they have to pay, regardless of the rates.

My hair, at 62 years old, is starting to do grey. It's streaked grey in my dark brown. My hair is long. I need some opinions, suggestions. Should I dye it?
Elizabeth J 447888
After having dark hair since I was a baby I find that I am loving my greys. I really think grey can look quite stylish. I see grey hair everywhere these days. Are people going grey at a younger age or are young people dying their grey. I really feel it is the latter. Dark hair on a older person with a sallow complexion looks comical. A good bottle of purple shampoo and let it be is my recommendation Ruth.

There is no "right" or "wrong" way. What you do with your own personal things is completely up to you and your own family. Nobody else's opinion matters nor is relevant. You might want to keep some, sell or donate some, or simply throw some out. You should course keep any legal documents and financial papers for a while though - people like the tax department can come back years later (in some places it can be 5 years, 7 years, 10 years, or longer).

I am a foster care provider. About 14 years ago, my wife and I wanted to see how it works. We started by going to classes for about 8 weeks for training. Once training was over, they match you up with a certain amount of children that your home can accommodate. Then you start the process of caring for the children as if they were your own. If and when they are not able to get back to their original parents, then they will ask you if you want to adopt them. Well,...
Teri 1282723
I grew up on a dairy farm with both parents and 4 sisters. As far back as I can remember, we had foster children in our home. Often 2 at a time but mostly 1 and once 3. I remember wanting to adopt them all, some more than others because they came as wee babies and stayed up to a couple of years and you get really attached; at least as a kid it felt like 2 years. We did end up adopting 2 boys and we are all very close and loving as siblings should be. I wondered recently if my parents did it for the money but my Dad set me straight real quick; $7/month for each child. That didn't even cover food. It was out of the kindness of their loving Christian hearts that they were doing this. In my adult life I was able to foster 2 teenaged girls. I don't think there's a much better feeling in life than helping young people out of abusive families and into a Christian home that values them for the gifts they are. And teaching them they are lovable and deserve respect and admiration lead them on to work in a dental office and veterinarian office where their kindness and confidence are shared with a gentleness they never learned in their first families. I am so thankful to God for bringing those girls into my life and the ability to give them what they needed to succeed in life and break the abusive cycle. If any of you get the opportunity to foster and/or adopt a child/children, I say pray about it and if you're led in that direction, follow your heart and do it. You will all be rewarded. God bless...

It amazes me that the younger generation have the call out for helping the earth, etc. yet they use so much stuff. i.e. wipes, disposable nappies, coffee cups and pods, phones and other electronic equipment, yes and fast food packaging and they usually buy bags at the supermarket also. I have young people around the 30 age bracket in my units here and they do not recycle anything. I saw on the news tonight that the young mothers cannot afford nappies which cost somewhere between $20 and $30 a week apparently and take over 100 years to degrade. We had about 2 dozen cloth nappies that we soaked and washed them. No on going costs with those. We used flannels to wash them with and wipe their faces and then we washed those.
We can do our bit but big businesses are doing more damage than we can ever offset. They need to be made accountable.
Carbon offset is not the way to go either. Carbon negative is how it should be. Buying some trees to offset the carbon is not lowering it as the trees were already there. Sometimes these areas trees/timber have also been sold so a minus. I guess we all need to make everyone take responsibility from the smallest thing to the largest company and governments.

I am reading many books in English and find it odd that to keep something to yourself is considered telling a 'half-truth' or being deceptive. I don't find it deceptive or a lie. That is their choice to disclose or not to disclose. Something are better left unsaid. I would like to know your feelings on this.

Did not understand your question, but 'I think' you are asking the following: Truth is a generally accepted outcome or reasoning while Fact is a proven Truth. Fact is true but not all Truths are Facts (aka Half-Truths). Other words, Facts are more objective in their nature whereas Truths are more subjective in their nature (which can/will lead to Half-Truths).

Where do you turn to for advice on retirement village and aged care? Or what's your experience with these
Pearlz
There is My Aged Care but while the mandates are still in place I wouldn't leave one of my cats in an aged care facility. My mother had been in a nursing home for some years before Covid but when they introduced the vaccine mandates almost half the staff left and the place soon fell apart. The residents were neglected as there simply weren't enough staff, the food was terrible, visitors were prevented from visiting and the residents were prevented from going out and every time a resident tested positive they were all locked in their rooms. Prisoners were treated better. My mother had an infection which had previously been tested for regularly, it caused her to have a heart attack, then someone fell on her breaking her knee then another infection went undiagnosed or treated and she died. I lodged a formal complaint 6 months ago and am still waiting for a reply. It was cruel, unkind and over the top and our aged deserve much better. So until sanity prevails and things get back to normal I'd steer clear of the aged care system.

If you were unable to take care of an actual pet because of allergies, but somebody decided to make robotic pets that looks real, feels real and acts like the species it was made to look like but is still a robot, or even an old pet of yours that died, but you were able to have surgery done on it and turn it into a cyborg-pet would you do it? Personally, that s a no for me, but I do want to hear what other people have to say about this topic.
BLM
I am not a 'pet-lover' - in the tradition sense of the word (pet-lover). Furthermore, cyborg pets are already (HERE). Just like people some have microchips in their body and wear wearable technology (to monitor a health issue - internally and externally) which interfaces with a computer. Some people (rich or super-rich) have microchips planted in their pets' body and put wearable technology on their pets (to monitor a health issue - internally and externally) which interfaces with a computer. I have a robotic pet (dog) - which can actually be programmed to speak and/or make sounds like a dog. The advantages of a robotic pet (in my case - a dog): You do not have to walk your robotic dog, feed your robotic dog, clean up after your robotic dog, or take your robotic dog to a veterinarian on a regular basis for shots. Other words, the PERFECT PET. Interesting, I have become 'quite' attach to my robotic dog and I gave my robotic dog a name (SERIOUSLY) :-))!

With the rise of social media, there has been an increasing concern about the potential impact it can have on mental health. Social media can be both a positive and a negative influence on mental health depending on how it is used. On the other hand, social media can also be a source of stress...

I find that the word 'love' has become so exhausted that it's value as an expression of feelings or emotion no longer has any worth. Where it was once used in context of your emotions towards family or intended family, has now been thrown around as a throw away line. For example, I Love that colour or music, hairstyle or article of clothing etcetera. I find myself cringing whenever someone uses this word in the wrong context that I say then what do you feel for your...

Have you ever noticed.. whenever there is a person who has a sudden death, or major illness, that some family member runs to media, like on new-sites, to tell their sad story! Sometimes it ends up with the family member trying to raise money for some one or family left behind. Do you think this is appropriate? Life has it fair shares of sob stories, for many people. But do you think it's fair to beg money from the public? Most people don't do this!

In a cost of living crisis, if you are a parent that has children under 5, would you reduce your work hours so that you pay less in childcare, or find a new job that pays more, so you can afford childcare? If you reduce your work hours, the risk is that you might have to change to a lower paid job, which risks your future career development. If you look for a new job to afford childcare, you risk adding more stress to a busy family of young children. What would you...

If you have a partner why don't one of you stay home and look after your own children? I, and I think many others as well, get sick to death of hearing parents complaining about the cost of Childcare, that it should be Free - which simply means that other Taxpayers - some of whom have chosen not to breed - are expected - or rather it is considered their Duty - to pay for the rearing of other people's children.
If you want children then make up your minds to bring them up yourselves and put up with the inconveniences BUT do Not expect others to do it for you. If you are not prepared to rear your own children then don't have any - there are far too many people in the world already so that could be part of your contribution to addressing Climate Change!

What do you think of those people mouthing off about how certain sponsors should not be used in sport? Netball Australia has just lost a 15 million dollar deal with Gina Rhinehart and as far as I can see, over a lot of misinformation. I think almost everyone in this country is doing the best they can with being ethically responsible. I think we should get back to that old saying - do not mix sport and politics.
CILLY0
Personally, I don't know why anyone sponsors sports especially if they are going to be bad-mouthed over it. I never notice who is sponsoring anyone anyway and I doubt that I am the only person.

We seem to have an aggressive funeral market that isn't making enough profit from people dying currently (how much money do they want?)...they are making you feel guilty for dying and saying that it is a burden for your family...pay in advance...and IF we ARE here when you die.... it is all covered...but now we have BPAY and all the other little companies scampering about trying to strip extra interest out late payments...in a totally unregulated market (the...

It might be easier if you put the insurance you would pay in a separate account and watch it grow every year.

What would you spend it on? Would you save it or give it away? What would you most like to buy?
Grandma
After I came around after fainting I would just quietly bank it until my emotions settled down and then I would carefully sort out the best way of using it to benefit my loved ones.

Regardless if it was a paid job or volunteer work, what has been the most memorable job so far in your life, and what made it memorable? For me, I guess it would be volunteering at my children's Primary school. I was fortunate enough to be trained to teach children struggling to keep up with their fellow classmates the MULTILIT Program. Once a week I would take the children one at a time and give them a MULTILIT lesson. The speed at which they...

Riding for Disabled - its the best thing - esp those riders who are unable to go bushwalking...they just love the trail riding days. We also play games on horse back, giving them eye and hand coordination, strengthening their core muscles, and generally giving them something exciting to look forward to each week.

My mother was living in a nursing home for 4 years but in all of that time my brother and his wife visited her only once and the rest of his family didn't visit at all. Neither did my mothers nephews or nieces. I visited weekly and even during the lockdowns I would stand outside and wave to her. I took my grandchildren as often as I could and some family friends also visited. My mother's funeral was last week, but my brother and his family didn't attend the funeral, but I...

I must say I see this happen so often why turn up at your funeral when
you haven't seen them in years. I don't understand it - I would rather
see them for five minutes while I can enjoy their visit than they wait until
my funeral and I don't even know that they are there.

Recycle all your plastic bags to the supermarket, I even use potting mix bags, cut off top and bottom, & one side, put on the line and brush off dirt when dry. It is amazing how much you get in just one week, I dry frozen vegetable bags on the line too. Every little bit you can do will help our planet. I also wash eggshells & let dry then when I have lots I blend them finely and add to garden, excellent calcium which rots down slowly.
Pearlz
Goodness me. I don't have enough time to go to those lengths. I recycle as much as I can but some of the symbols are quite difficult to see. I wonder why there are so many. I feed the food the cats leave to the neighbourhood fox and birds and I compost all tea bags, egg shells and veggies peelings and garden waste so I feel I pretty well do my bit.

I couldn t imagine how hard it was when we had our 2nd child. My parents are not in here, and we don t have any family support who could help us to look after our kids while my husband and I are working. We are both working full time. My husband works day time, and I am in a rostered shift. I am so blessed that my Manager is very considerate, and she understands how hard of having young kids. She agreed with the flexible shift I wanted wherein I don t need to send...

People seem to want the top range of everything today. A lot are not prepared to wait until they can afford non-essential items so they buy them on credit, many can't pay it off by the due date and get themselves even further in debt.

It's no secret that the world is becoming more and more dark, scary, and negative. What are some things, no matter how small, that we can do to make the world just a bit more bright, hopeful, and positive? Or do you think it's a lost cause at this point?

In the 1970s, President Richard Nixon formally launched the war on drugs to eradicate illicit drug use in the US. "If we cannot destroy the drug menace in America, then it will surely in time destroy us," Nixon told Congress in 1971. "I am not prepared to accept this alternative." Over the next couple of decades, particularly under the Reagan administration, what followed was the escalation of global military and police efforts against drugs. But in that...

Recently we are researching a move to a country area from the city, and I was angry at the high cost of going through this transition. It is like a minefield. Stamp duty, capital gains, agent's fees, removalist costs, legal fees etc are far too high. To make this move, why are we going to lose over a $100,000 of our hard-earned money. In a time of housing shortage in cities, why isn't this process a lot easier and cheaper? Any thoughts from your experiences?
Christine M 323842
To buy another house you are entering into the very same problem that the rest of Australia is facing- its expensive
All those costs unfortunately either come with the cost of real estate purchase , and the income generated by the increase in value upon sale. Or just with moving home, it’s too much, I agree.
At least you are not facing homelessness like many of us who don’t own a home.

People can be influenced by lots of factors. Content can be really relevant for our decisions, being a more obvious persuasion, such as an ad, or a more implicit one, such as the memes we see on the internet. Memes can make us decide to listen to a song, which we start liking as a joke, but some days later it is already on your playlist. Who did not start listening to Never Gonna Give You Up or Super Idol after the memes? Memes can make anything irrelevant become...
Sandra C 12043
Memes don't interest or influence me in any way. As for social media I have FB only with messenger only to keep in touch with family & friends in another state or overseas. I am private with friends & family so don't have all the distractions that some have. If that's what you like then that's fine but I'm not interested.
