Yes, I think the customer service definitely has declined when I tried to get hold of Vodafone to sort out some problems. I was put on hold every time when I called its call centre and I had to wait for 45 minutes on one stage. They seem to enjoy transferring me to different departments and promising the next department will help me. I ended up having to speak to 4 different people in one occasion and I was told different stories by those 4 people. There are no email addresses to contact Vodafone. I could only use the online virtual robot option and eventually it still requested me to call the same toll free phone number that I could never get help with. The problems were never solved and I have given up.

I've done it. And if you truly love people and want to help someone who isn't old enough to speak up for themselves, I recommend you do it as well. I grew up in a home where my parents nearly always had 1-3 foster children sharing our lives. We learned as children that fosters come and go, but we were able to adopt 2 of the boys. They are my brothers through and through. The girls that I fostered were being abused, both 16 years old. One was being beaten regularly by her mother and stabbed once, the other was being raped by her mother's live-in boyfriend. The time with them was only a few months each but it was enough to let them know there are good people in the world and both changed into good people themselves. One has a lovely family and the other is a veterinary technician. Both are happy:) I very highly recommend fostering if you honestly feel your heart wanting to help. You don't get much financially, but you get loads in return emotionally. As much as you know they will most likely be leaving your home at some point, each and every one of them stay in your heart forever. You love with all purity of intentions and build them up and show them good in their world. You will make a positive difference for each child.

It's the same here in Australia too. There is a closed down school near us with a house all boarded up. Yet there are people screaming out for some where to live, homelessness has gone through the roof. It's just a waste and because no one is using the school it is going down hill at a great rate of knots. There's even a tennis court, why couldn't some government department turn the old school into some accommodation for the needy even if it is only a temporary fix. At least it would be being used again instead of rotting away before our eyes. The owners of any run down building or premises should be made to clean them up. My parents had a vacant block in Brisbane and Dad used to get letters from the council to clean it up and people used to dump stuff on it. I remember helping them clean it up and I fell over some tyres that some body had dumped there. They ended up selling the land because they received a good offer on it and it then saved them from having to maintain it too. So where is the fairness letting other people get away with not maintaining their properties? I guess letters don't get passed on to the owners but after a certain amount of time has lapsed surely there is more they can do.

I would not hesitate in calling. During Covid and I might add I am in my 70's I had people come right up to me talking then tell me they had Covid. I keep away from people with colds, etc. as I am not a healthy person. So why would I not ring and tell a friend I am unwell and to make it another day when I am better. It's a common courtesy.

There was a discussion on the radio the other day about kids "wanting" to do various activities, the parents paying for it, and then the kid quickly pulling out again ... sports, dancing, scouts / girl guides, horse riding, etc. Before paying any full term / year fees (often non-refundable because you're taking up a spot and the classes cannot start again to catch-up a later fill-in), you should find somewhere that either offers pay-per-lesson prices or even gives a free trial. That way you can find out if the kids *really* wants to do it or not before paying out huge piles of money.

We moved to a rural property - a year ago tomorrow, actually - and since then I have grown potatoes, kumara (sweet potatoes for those outside NZ), NZ yams, carrots, cauli, broccoli, capsicums, corn, onions (red and brown), spring onions, pumpkins, beans, snowpeas (mange tout), leeks, cabbages (red and savoy), spinach, silverbeet, swede, daikon radish, beetroot, garlic, rhubarb, courgettes (zucchini), several varieties of tomatoes and herbs and attempted eggplant (aubergine) but was unsuccessful with those as I planted them too late in the season. We have also harvested feijoas, lemons, limes, mandarins and peaches from trees that were already established on the property. We also have chickens for eggs. I have made several batches of pasta sauce, tomato relish, peach jam, onion marmalade and feijoa chutney. I also make my own Irish soda bread, naan bread and focaccia. We are loving the flavours of fruit and veges fresh from the garden and are looking to add more gardens so we can grow more produce.

As much as MSM won't talk about it, there IS going to be a global famine and even now it has begun in African and some poorer Middle Eastern countries too. There is simply NOT going to be enough food to feed everyone and with a deficit in supply only one thing is certain and that is that prices will continue to rise in ways that we who have grown up over the last 50 years have never conceived of! Farmers are being told NOT to grow food or they have seen prices for fertilisers go up so high, if available at all, that it isn't worth planting crops but taking the insurance money for a lost crop instead. The "environment" has become the reason for the slaughter of millions of additional animals which would not have ended up on our plates this year or next because the "Nitrogen Minister" of a country has stated that the animals have to go so that "Mother Earth" is saved from the ravages of sheep and cows! Crops are failing due to inclement weather either drowning the plants or drought drying them out. Water is and will continue to be restricted for farming and even the growing of rice, a stable food item on the menu of billions of people all around our planet isn't forgotten by the architects of this intentional disaster. There IS a war on food and if you and your loved ones WANT to eat in the years to come you MUST make ready now before supply slows and rationing becomes widespread. It sounds science fiction or like a novel but we are ALL going to go through times we simply can't begin now to imagine in our near future! Fill up that pantry now, buy as many Mason jars as you can find and fill them, get kilos of salt as it's a valuable commodity and plant a garden with non GMO seeds! All the best to you all.

Experienced all the big quakes in Christchurch 2010/2011. The 7.1M/depth 10km in 2010 was at 430am. I woke instantly and knew - I genuinely thought the house was collapsing so ran outside although that was hard to do. I thought my heart would explode it was beating so fast. I left the doors open overnight for a month after that. The 6.3M and 6.1M /depth 5km earthquakes that killed nearly 200 people in 2011 was mind-blowing in its violence- you were glued to the spot by the gravitational forces. I was in the kitchen at work and clung desperately to a doorway. The noise was totally deafening. It was just random luck if you happened to be in a structurally safe building or not, whether you were safe, injured or killed, how damaged or liveable your home was. The shallower the earthquake, the worse the effects. After months of aftershocks (had about 10000), I naturally only took direct Drop-Cover-Hold action for quakes longer than 5 seconds and over about M4.5. I started hyperventilating at the occasional bigger ones only several years later. I only ever had nightmares about tsunamis and not earthquakes- go figure. It took five years for workers to turn up and re-level my house floor. Mother Nature rules\u2026we are just fleas on a dog\u2019s back along for the ride.

When my children were pre-teens my husband was very often away, often for months at a time with the RAN so I ruled my home with an iron rod. If I hadn't my life would have been hell. They were children and had rules and rarely needed to be punished. There was no acting up or swearing, they were allowed out to play but had a time that they had to be home. I really didn't ever have a problem with any of them and they were church goers. They are all married now with children of their own, they were never in any trouble, didn't do drugs and were not drinkers. They also stayed at home until they married which was late in their 20"s. My mother always said I had turned my sons into sooks but their wives tell me a did a brilliant job with them. Because dad was usually not here my boys were quite close to me and were always very helpful to their mum. One rings 2 or 3 times a week for a chat.

Too many apartment buildings going up in our area. We are close to the city and now the lovely old houses that are on larger blocks being torn down to replace with ugly apartment buildings. They will never last as long as these houses have and what is even harder to take is that all the lovely old trees are being cut down. It will soon be a concrete jungle. These buildings de-humanise the area and within a short time look dirty and shabby.

I do not regret but at times realise that they are just not me so I give them to Lifeline. All my good clothes I no longer wear I give to the charity shop. I actually have 2 bags in my boot ready to go there but I still have a bit of my robe to go through.

Being checked over is a service and yes you should pay. They have studied for years, have all sorts of equipment to buy, rent to pay, insurance for buildings, workers, etc. Utilities and so much more let alone all the stock both medical and other. Its a tricky one...you don't just know more now...you are probably quite a different person too...I don't know how I would get on with myself when I was 23....radically different to now....your life experiences have contributed a lot to who you are at the moment...if you tinker in the past you will be different in the present...its all connected and hopefully a learning experience

I'm not impressed by them. You still have to make the cars and that involves the usual stuff. I have accepted many stray cats over the years. They keep me sane, make me laugh and have different personalities. Yes I personally don't like the look either, but fashion is what it is. It's the same as the messy hair look or beach hair look, people spend money on products to recreate a look they can achieve naturally because they want to appear effortless because it's seen as desirable, when actually they are the exact opposite. I park as far away from the shops as possible. Most cars that have trouble getting into a shopping centre carpark are four wheel drives. I think shopping centre carparks should have a separate area for these big cars to park in. They don't only cause trouble when they are parking but make it impossible for a small car to see around them when trying to get out of a car park.

My trip to Hawaii was cancelled last year and I do want to go while I am still young enough to drag my bag behind me but there will need to be next to no Covid out there. I don't want to go anywhere that requires sticking a stick up my nose, and I don't want to have to wear a mask, quarantine in my room for even one day and I certainly don't want to end up in a hospital in a foreign country. So no overseas travel for me for sometime yet.

This has to be a joke. Children are just that, children, and to my mind children should be seen and not heard. Why would they have a say? They don't earn a living, they go to school to learn. It seems to me that parents do not want the responsibility of rearing children and want children to rear themselves. How can a child possibly have the maturity, experience and knowledge to even be given consideration in making life changing decisions. Children deserve a childhood free from such things, no worry or responsibility, that will come soon enough. If an adult feels the need to check with a child for permission to lead his or her life then perhaps they should remain childless. Is it any wonder there are so many horrid bratty children out there, they don't have a parent they have another friend. Stop frightening them with climate change, possible war, sustainability and all that other rubbish. Why scare them with things that might never happen. I remember the Cuban missile crisis and asked my father "will there be a war", he told me I was not to worry about it or be concerned but to let adults sort it out. Indeed they did and my father was right, as a child I had no need to worry. Do not put grown up heads on little shoulders. Let them be children.

My grandmother had 2 small children during WW2 and they fled Malaya and ended up in Western Australia, she lost a baby on the journey. My grandpa ended up a prisoner for years. Any way my grandma was one of the first in Australia to put strawberries into vanilla ice cream. She made quite a bit of money for her self and her 2 children. They waited until grandpa could come back and then went back to the UK. My parents settled back here once they were married. I am proud to say I am in charge of our finances, I pay all the bills and I know where every cent has gone or where it needs to be. I do believe some women aren't allowed to have their own money in some marriages. Me kind of included the first time around. Not the case this time. It certainly makes a change. i believe they go by the council valuations on setting the price for houses. Its the council that is at fault, making the land more valuble which in turn they set the price for how much people pay in land rates.

I had 5 children who are now aged between 28 and 39. When they were growing up I and my now ex husband had his Italian father living with us. He had worked so hard all his life after being a prisoner of war in WW2 and became medically retired by the time my eldest daughter was born and she is now 35. Because his wife abandoned him AND the 2 children who were 3 and 5 at the time and there wasn't a pension available for him to recieve in order to be able to keep his family together, the children stayed with grandparents and great grandparents on their mothers side, and sometimes in the Catholic orphanages which were very cruel as was their maternal GM. By the time I met my children's father at age 15 Giuseppe would leave at 4:30 am and bot arrive back until about 6pm at night and then go to bed and start all over again. I mention this because it's important to the story. I didn't fully realise until about 20 years ago when I gained a little perspective and started to head into my 40's just what a wonderful man I'd been blessed to know. As I had more children my FIL would do the laundry, being fully retired now, the cooking, a lot of the cleaning and garden maintenance, including having a large vegetable garden that fed us fresh vegetables. Because of this being waited on hand and foot my children didn't learn to do the chores which I had learned to do, without argument, since I was a very young child. I am not lying but stating a truth that my husband grew up very lazy and unmotivated and this, combined with their grandfathers constant help, prevented my children from developing a disciplinet hat I had in spades having come from a typical nuclear family of the 1960's with traditional gender roles. My children have however developed their own discipline and now are functioning members of society and appreciate just what a blessing they did have growing up with a grandparent living with them. Giuseppe too got what HE wanted: :a family with children he could help raise and be at home with to watch them grow! My children talk about their grandfather often and his ashes sit not 2 feet from where I write this in bed having lost him at age 97 3 years ago. But children enjoy getting mum a nappy or "folding" up a face washer or carrying swmething for whatever parent is taking care of the child at the time. It gives them happiness and pride in their achievements and that's ALWAYS a good thing! Thank you for reading this and have a nice day.

I live in a rural area and absolutely love it. Rail - hmmm - what rail??? - We used to have one in Cowra, NSW, but the government decided to close it because it was not making enough money. Same thing happened with the airport. Now the only way people can get here is by train to Bathurst and bus the rest of the way, or you can drive the four hour drive. With due respect to Council, they need to try and get our train lines open again.
