I like the older cars with manual transmissions and wind down windows which are plus for safety. If you break down you can push the car and even push start it. If you go into water you can wind the windows down and get out not so in electric cars etc. There is so much going on in the new cars that it is distracting the drivers.

I love most seafood but do not like oysters. The appearance of them and the texture is revolting. Yet many people seem to think they're marvellous. I also think kangaroo is disgusting too. Plenty fellow Aussies seem to think it's marvellous, but to me it smells and tastes like it's off.

In general I have found most In Laws are what you make them. I have seen MIL's that have been very pushy ..... but you just have to set boundries. If your In Laws are doing something you are not happy with - be honest AND TELL THEM (politely). Something like "I appreciate what you are saying ... but these are my kids - my rules". If a MIL is to cut your child's hair without FIRST checking with you - I can assure you she would NOT DO IT TWICE in my house. She would get very cool treatment from me. I do agree that it is often a MIL who is not happy about who her son has chosen..... a very stupid woman I say.

Yes I have, twice. I took it very seriously because you are making a decision on someone else's life/situation. Unfortunately some people were more interested in getting home than making the right choices. I take pride in saying I stuck to my beliefs and acquitted a young man accused of wrongdoing. The judge was pleased with the verdict. I was very proud of the decision and outcome. Not everyone is cut out for this service but I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I admit, I have a smoothie nearly every morning for breakfast. Block parties have never been a part of the Australian culture but when I lived in America they were a big thing and very enjoyable, especially at Halloween time. Halloween had rules which don't seem to apply here in Australia. You went out after dark and only knocked where the outside light was on. They would close the street, set up trestles and serve hot cider and treats. The entire street would be out, and it was a very long street with house numbers into 4 digits. It was great to get out and meet the neighbours.

Yes I have done shift work 1 week 6am-2pm the next week 2pm -6pm the worst one 6pm-6am however the money was very good.it was in UK in the 50's.I earned double the wage my uncle earned & he had a wife & 3 kids to support .I was the only Australian in the whole factory.Any time I had off I visited other counties. When I suggested this topic it was ignored. Perhaps it was the way I framed it. I am a cat person and while I have had dogs it's cats I can't live without. My 16 year old lady left us last September so I now only have 5 boys. They are all rescues so come with health problems but I love them, not like children but family members who are animals. My one rule is that they don't have human names, and I never use the same name twice, the name also has to suit the personality. All 5 have long fur which annoys my husband as he feels they shed, they don't really as they usually leave it on chairs or clothing. I have always had at least one cat other than when I lived overseas. All of the cats has it's own personality and all 5 own me. They are neurotic, bossy, fussy but love unconditionally and get very annoyed if we go away for any reason. They are very independent, dogs are far too needy for my liking, but they know if I'm not feeling well and will stay with me even if they have to hiss and growl at anyone that attempts to get closer. They help me garden, they always want to go with me when I walk and will hide so that I can't see them until they get frightened by a car or dog and I hear them crying. I had to carry one home from almost a block away one day and the bus scared him so much he almost got away from me. They are sticky beaks who have to know where I am at all times. They help me when I'm sewing or making the bed, oh that's great fun, they also enjoy a feather duster, getting into drawers, cupboards and washing baskets. I was missing one once and looked everywhere for him but I was pretty sure he hadn't left home. The following morning I turned the dryer on to air my towels and I heard a loud banging and when I looked his little face was looking through the dryer door at me. He had gotten in while I left the dryer open as I took the towels off the clothesline the previous afternoon. I hugged him so hard as it could have ended quite badly and he was very forgiving but hungry. Ny eldest son keeps birds and doesn't like cats, he says they are sneaky, my daughter has no pets but prefers dogs while my youngest son must take after me and has 5 cats. My grandchildren call me the crazy cat lady but they all love my cats. The feeling sadly is not reciprocated.

We had a brand new house we rented to a couple with 2 children for 4 years while we did our trip around Australia and I would never rent any thing again. The amount the real estate said was normal wear and tear was just total BS. Who can blow up an oven in 4 years? Tried to fix the water tank after their puppy chewed the wires, totally failed to any way. So with short term rentals I think the damage could be worse and I would never do that because there is no respect for other peoples belongings. Use and abuse then some of the better tenants are tarred with the same brush. Like most things there is always some one whom will spoil it for every one else. I read about a couple with 2 children and another on the way having to live in a tent because there aren't any rentals available in their area. It's sad and temporary housing needs to be arranged for these people. As much as I wouldn't rent any thing again surely there are others that would. Some are selling up as interest rates rise and this will only add to the problem but then a first home buyer gets a chance to buy. Rent is dead money so if the younger ones can buy it is better but then are they still going to be around that area in 3 or 4 years? It's a hard one that is for sure.

As long as the child does his or her own homework. Often I found parents had done the homework for the child, and what is the point of that. Homework is a valuable way to practice skills learned in class. If the child can't do the homework, the parent should inform the teacher so those skills can be revised until the child is able to do the work independently. Also, I agree that excessive homework is not good - a maximum of half an hour should be long enough for primary school students.

I am alone and have depression and anxiety and no family. I do what I want when I want, but that doesn't fit into society. I might go to bed at 10 p.m. or 5 a.m. and sleep most of the day. Our local Op Shop sells faded Levi Jeans with naturally worn, strategically sited holes - just like the Designer jeans at $695 for just $10! - I know this because they were my jeans! The only reason I was not still wearing them was because I don't think it is appropriate for Mature Age Men and Women to dress as if they were in their late teens! We need to bring back the Technical Colleges we used to have that taught young people who preferred to work with their hands parallel with High Schools where young people's capabilities belong in the academic arena. Australia should be concentrating on advancing the schooling needs of our own young people and not investing in the education of overseas students who either go back and take their knowledge to their own country or stay and soak up the employment here leaving our qualified brilliant young people to what? We both worked til I decided to chuck in my job because I was sick of daycare spending more time with the kids than us. I was also earning more as a labourer than my partner in the foundry. Didn't someone once say "the law is an ass"? A very simple statement but there is no simple solution when it comes to broken families. Everyone gets battle fatigue going through the process and children get more and more confused by the to and fro state of affairs and sometimes even thinking that they are the cause of it all.

I believe it is a waste of money. I know someone who spends $30 a week and others even more. Calculate that over a year and that could go towards a holiday or something you might need in the house. I prefer to work for what I have and manage my own expenses. Sometimes money can bring more issues than it is worth.

I think that less funding should be given to private schools and hospitals should have adequate equipment and hospital beds especially when COVID-19 is still an issue. And having a degree can't guarantee you a job. I wish that the government would offer free courses for people who are struggling to get jobs.

I have not had an alcohol drink in over a year. As I have coeliac disease I am reluctant to have any thing. I do feel like some now and again but walking the dog helps to relax me so I do not need alcohol. $600 is a lot of money on alcohol. You could save that money and when lock down eases you could go on holiday. I also feel that the preservative in alcohol is not good for our body.

It's like everything else in nature, it changes. Some years we have lots of snow or frosty mornings. Some years we have lots of rain. Years of droughts and years of floods. Look back at history and you'll see Egypt had droughts then floods. It's just a natural cycle. However, when it comes to damage that is purely due to population. We have always had hail storms. I have photo's of me as a child holding huge hail stones, but back then there wasn't much damage. About 6 years ago a hail storm went through and our house fared pretty well but a new suburb that had just popped up and had 4 houses per quarter acre instead of 1 copped it badly. All you could see was blue tarps over roofs, and they were there for months with not enough tradesman and insurance companies trying to assess the damage. The storm was no worse than usual but there were far more homes than previously.

Embarrasing..i was rushing to get a workvisit kit and left the Hospital car with the brake off- came back and it had rolled into a handrail. ThankGod it didn't hit anyone. Also left handbrake off when rushing our newborn pups into vets for checkup. Dented car and didn't want to tell hubby and managed to sneak it to panelbeaters and get it back next day fixed without him knowing. Er there's been a few other handbrake incidents too. I try to avoid parking on hills or slopes these days.

As a motorbike rider, all drivers are the devil to me/us.. I am highly trained and always ride within my limits. I ride to the conditions. If I overtake or pass, I do it quickly and with great thought. I do not want to be anywhere near cars or trucks. Of couse this is said in hindsight, but bike riders know what I am talking about.

All these rap songs are so hard to understand or full of anger or foul language. Some may like it but who remembers any of these so called songs. They are almost always wrong. My dogs actually act funny right before we get the bad weather, as of lately I tend to depend on my dogs for bad weather. Weather stations are usually way off or the weather starts before their predictions.

I worked in a Nursing Home, where I witnessed an AIN pushing over a resident, calling him a stupid old man. I went straight to the Deputy to report it. She told me that I should be nice to this girl, because she was having a hard time at home. I was absolutely shocked that this could not only happen, but there were zero repercussions for someone who was supposed to be giving care to the frail, elderly residents.

I can remember the feeling of satisfaction when we used to get paid in cash, kept a little for expenses, train or bus fares lunch money and paid board and the rest got put in the bank and it stayed in the bank. None of this direct deposit and losing track of how much gets withdrawn bit by bit for all and sundry to track where you spent what. I only use PayPal to receive survey payments and am quick to transfer it to a real bricks and mortar bank account.
