Discussions of the day

Do you think in this day and age an "education" is the ticket to a better paying job? Or does your life experience (what you know) and who you know get you that better paying career?
APB
This may be an American problem...I am not sure...should the only reason for your career be that it is "better paying"....I hope that at least some people devote most of their entire lives to a career that involves something they love and care about...or something that is vitally important or makes everyone else's world a better place...we can all make very important contributions and these should never be devalued

Laying in the sun for 10 -15 minutes a day is the best way to get enough. When ultraviolet rays hit your skin, that light triggers the production of vitamin D. Skin cancer should not be a risk for 2 to 3 times a week between 10 and 3 p.m. I have Irish heritage, so I am guilty of avoiding the sun. Some symptoms of vitamin D deficiency can include muscle weakness, pain, fatigue and depression. I just read a recent report stating there is now a connection with...

Yes it has been another scare campaign with being out in the sun. I have very fair skin and turn into a lobster in half an hour.So I avoid the sun, go out early morning or late afternoon. I won't use sun screen, it's just another chemical. I do take vitamin D supplements on a daily basis. I've stopped listen to the news, it's just a bunch of articles that are geared to make people panic. I'm sick of being told how to live, what to eat, when to fart...to hell with it all.

That’s what happens when you let wankers into power.. For God’s sake, We have had Humpty Dumpty Trumpty, a mad Russian Kleptocrat and that fool down in Brazil, not to mention Xi (wants to rule the world) and the recently irrelevant Scomo to keep us safe, now a Marcos is back in power in the Philippines telling everybody the sun shines out of his arse (his father stole USD 13 billion from that country-most of it never recovered)… and I haven’t even mentioned the bankers and various mafia ( and yes I mentioned them in the same sentence deliberately) that are out to steal every penny from the poor that they can get their hands on.. But after a few double strength home brews I conclude that as long as my glass is not empty, the world is a wonderful place…

When visiting my new dentist recently, I thought how clever of them to hand me a piece of paper covered in a plastic sleeve clipped to a clipboard with a whiteboard marker to write out my details. The plastic sleeve is wiped when the information is put to the computer - such a clever way to save paper and emissions. Do feel there is a mad scramble to reach our 2030 emissions target as per the Paris Agreement? Have you noticed anything that would equate to a...

What ever we do will not stop global warming! The earth is on an orbit in our solar system and has so far done 1% of this orbit which means our lifestyle is going to continue to change or die out as our universe expands and the planets move further away from each other. Governments wont tell their populations this as there would be worldwide panic. Our plants and animal life is dying out and we cannot stop it.Everyone conveniently forgets that we have had previous ice ages and the magnetic poles have also changed places throughout time. So for those who believe they can stop global warming go ahead and do your thing but it wont matter at all in the long term.

When the person isn't terminally ill, but push the button to end their life. The person is just sick of life. At the moment, they have to go overseas to do it. For some reason I don't, but agree with euthanasia by intentionally ending life to relieve pain and suffering.
Sand
Just sick of life is not fair, Kaz. In many cases it is severe mental illness. Does a person suffering from severe depression for decades not have the right to die? In the recent case, the Australian man was 103 years old. He was not in good health. I feel strongly about this as I worked for a quadriplegic, named Jo Ann Dolan, when I was younger. She fought for the right to die and an article appeared in "The Age". We have no right to interfere. I am sick and tired and people saying "people will kill their family for money". Stop hiding behind this BS as some people face suffering that we would not allow on a dog. They have the right to die and it is not your or my business.

Do you have any dreams, weird or not, that actually turn out that part of it is true? I had a dream last week and Prince Edward's wife, Sophie, was in it. We were just talking and then she started writing. I noticed that she was writing with her left hand. I said another lefty. Likewise, I'm also a lefty. When I woke up, I googled to see if she was a lefty, and she is indeed a lefty.

I have been having unusual dreams and de ja vu since I was very small. The most disturbing was a reoccurring dream of a close friend going away, for about 3 months every night this included other people and places they went . A couple of days before I saw a horrific car accident but was constantly pushed back from the flashing lights and crash scene.. My friend was killed 3 days later, same car same accident, and everyone in the dream did what I saw. I have never been the same

Since I am STILL getting responses from a Daily Discussion - that was posted 4/27/2021. I decided to go with a TO BE CONTINUE (TBC) - Part 2. The majority of the response were people get married - because of LOVE. I vehemently refused to believe people get marry because they are in love with each other. Which leads to my next point: prenuptial agreements! Why are prenuptial agreements becoming popular in capitalists' country?
Pearlz
Why do you think people marry if not for love? You must be a sad man if you think we are all together for some other reason. Let me put you straight. I would not have picked up after, put away behind, cleaned, cooked for, born children by and now watch as he descends into Dementia if I had not married him for love. I married and have stayed for love for 55 years, and if not for love there were plenty of other things I could have done with my life.

Do you think it's much too easy to get residential status in Countries? Should the requirements be harder to live and work in other nations? What do you say?
Bex
It's easy for those of us who are born in amazing countries like Australia to take an entitled stance, and want to refuse immigrants. I believe in equal opportunity for all. If you were born in a third world country without access to fresh drinking water, bathing in water where the sewage outlets run into, wouldn't you want a better life for yourself, and your family? In my experience, most immigrants are hard workers, just looking to make a better life for themselves in a paradise that most of us take for granted.

Do you think we should become cashless and only use cards to pay for everything? If we do, will banks charge us for small payments. As some shops have a minimum spend in store. What happens to children's pocket money, how do you pay them? And the tooth fairy? I still like to pay for smaller purchases with cash. What are your thoughts?

Governments like cashless societies...then they can keep a complete record on all your spending..and for those who don't have mobile phones they then also know when and where you have been....they just luuuvv surveillance.....

Physically, things are not wonderful. The immobility and pain of arthritis must be felt to be believed. However, mentally, I feel so wise and grounded: an unerring sense of what matters more, what matters less and what matters not at all. Emotionally, I Iike being free of the stresses of the workplace, the tyranny of the power structure and its expectations. My time is largely my own and I revel in the liberty of it all. Do you think the pension should be increased? have you ever witnessed an older person who is shopping for food and can't afford it so they buy a can of baked beans instead of meat and veg
JoeB
Yes, a little bit. The pension is enough to survive on but not much else. I think society does not properly respect what a lifetime is, nor does it respect the value of the volunteer work that many of the retirees do.

COVID vaccines necessary before travelling within Australia (US, wherever), and same to enter Australia ... Without quarantine before leaving the states or countries. What do you think?

It has only taken a few months, after Covid 19 swept the world, most of the people (who aren't in a war or just starving to death) to go rushing out into the streets and have mass combined protests and riots ... equal rights getting rid of a king/dictator...not being happy about other people telling them what to do...white supremacy black lives matter...not being happy with an election result (there are a lot of places that that is going on)..evil governments, police brutality...

We've had pandemics before.....Spanish flu, the Plague, etc. It's social media that's making people crazy...... Have a camera aimed your way and all of a sudden your dumb idea or theory goes viral. Shut down social media and I think you'll shut down the crazies, the conspiracists and all those who have nothing better to do. Hell you never know, they might end up being...dare I say....a productive and contributing member of society or at least to their family.

Throughout our lifetime we have a lot of people in our lives, some we are born into and some we choose to be around. It's not always easy to see who of these many people are genuine and good people. We often get blind sided and possibly don't see everything or everyone for what they truly are. Not everyone in our lives are looking out for everyone else or care about how their words or actions affect those around them. Have you ever had someone make you feel like you...

You haven't received a phone call in months, so on this day when the phone rang you picked it up right away. The voice on the other end sounded familiar, but you're not 100% sure you knew who it was, and you didn't want to feel foolish by asking as the person did not say their name. The conversation goes on for a couple of minutes until the person asked you a question that you didn't know, you stopped, laughed and then quickly blurted out, "who am I speaking to?" No...

The average date in the United States has reached $189, representing a 12.5% increase from approximately $168 in 2025 ... This surge, dubbed "date-flation," reflects a total "all-in" cost that includes dining, drinks, transportation, and pre-date grooming, making modern dating a significant financial commitment. No wonder people date less. What is your experience?

I believe Hospital parking should be free for all staff that work at that hospital & the 1st 2hrs should be free if you're visiting a sick person. These days parking at any hospital is getting out of reach especially if you have to go their daily for a while. With a very sick family member, you should be able to have a discount of some sort. It is so expensive that outsource are charging you to park on the hospital grounds. How do you feel that we should be able to have a grace...
Razz
Public Hospitals in Adelaide give discounted parking for visitors of a family member, but it is a 7 day pass no casual parking and you have to apply. Out patience get a parking permit if they apply, I think it would pay to ask what is available at your hospital.

Is it me or does it seem that there seems to be more silly drivers on the road. Not looking, not doing the actual speed (way slower), can't stay within lanes.
Pearlz
Many drivers are driving on foreign licences from countries where the roads rules are different to ours. People in NSW are allowed to take their test in a language other than English. When I made a complaint about it I was told road signs are the same worldwide so it makes no difference. I disagree, the word DETOUR comes in English only, so if you can't read English you won't know what it means.

Do you still enjoy reading a good book instead of listening to it on audiobook? There are so many books out there. Fiction, Non Fiction, Murder & Mystery, Biography, Spiritual, Self help etc. Do you have a favourite author? I enjoy true stories & ones that are romantic. How long can you deep freezer food for? They say fish for one month. What the best things deep freezer and how long. Is better in fridge or deep freezer, is they even tips as well. Can cake be frozen or not.
Pato Lo Duck
Fish is difficult to assess, some fish get a bad taste after only a month or so and others seem to last for ever. I found a pack of seafood highlighter frozen in its original packaging in the bottom of my old freezer, that was 22 years old. I defrosted it and gave it a go, and it looked and tasted exactly the same as another one I had bought frozen from the supermarket still inside the use by date. You just have to experiment a bit to find what works. For instance bacon rashers get a funny taste after only a few months, but short cut bacon, without the fat lasts much longer before the taste changes.

It's a personal choice to book one in when buying a house (cost: $300-$1000 AUD) but are they worth it? I had a friend, needed to determine if he had termite & asbestos the P&B report said "no", sadly he later found out he had both. Other P&B inspectors overexaggerate petty issues just to cover themselves. Who's had similar stories?
Lachelle B
I have a building background so am the unofficial house inspector for family. A house is a long term investment so you need to check it out from a registered inspector (if they get it wrong, it's on them). It's like buying a car and going "she'll be right" instead of getting a mechanic to take a look.

Why is it when you're serving a customer in any type of industry, that they seam that they are always right? I believe in many industries they choose to ignore what is actually correct, so they don't have to deal with rudeness, loudmouths, tempered customers. Is it ok for the public to go into shops and abuse the staff who are only doing their everyday job, especially when it comes to checking bags? My belief is that if you have nothing to hide, then what is the problem with having your bags checked? Swearing and calling the staff names is not necessary. If the staff are not helpful or are rude, then they should be reported to a supervisor or manager.

The cost of increased shoplifting could easily put a smaller company out of business. Get your bag checked like a good boy or girl

Children are staying home longer in their adult years, to leave for a bit then come back. We have charged rent as soon as they get jobs as well as make then help out around the house. BUT a lot of our friends seem to do none of this and think we are mean, doing it to our children. How does everyone else feel about this?

Absolutely agree with rent being paid when children get a job. No value of money is learnt when parents keep paying expenses for their children. Also chores should be undertaken to help around the house - parents are not slaves.

We've all heard about the school lunch saga happening around the country, with some questioning the quality of the meals. Since kids can be picky eaters, it raises the question - what makes a great school lunch? Let's not debate why times are tough and these kids need school lunches, let's brainstorm! Share your favourite lunches from your school days or the go-to meals your kids love! Perhaps we can come up with a menu of crowd-pleasing school lunches...

I graduated in 1965! In my senior year dad gave me a $5 a week allowance. Lunches were 50 cents, so I spent $2.50 a week on food. My favorite lunches were the roast beef and gravy over mashed potatoes, or the oriental vegetables over rice! The other $2.50 went for shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, soap (toiletries) because, since I had my own motel room (adjoining the manager's home/office), I had to buy my own things with my allowance. I even saved up and bought 3 paisley sack dresses (blue, green, brown) for $2 each! Did I ever get off the main subject! ;-D

The research show no loss in productivity and better mental wellbeing. What would be your thoughts on four-day work week?

If you had Monday or Friday off, it would be like having a long weekend all the time. In medical professions and teaching professions, that would be hard to implement. I don’t think that a four day working week would work for everyone.

Are high profile actors today paid too much money for their profession when the current cost of living is so expensive for the average population. Would you consider paying $25+ for a cinema ticket to go and watch an actor who has been paid $20 000 000?

Cost of living is totally irrelevant to what actors are paid. Only idiots pay 25 to go to see a movie, there's plenty of cheaper options

I have always said crooks are really dumb. To prove my point, people shoplift and them brag about it on social media. They also break the law in other ways and either brag to their friends and get turned in or involve people in the crime who can't keep their mouths shut. Crime doesn't pay any way you look at it because if someone does get away with it for a while they won't stop when they have enough because they will never have enough.

The Banking Scandal of 2008 proved how smart criminals are - especially WHITE-COLLAR-CRIMINALS. WHITE-COLLAR-CRIMINALS 'ripped' the world off for trillions of dollars - and 'none' of the money was recovered. However, every government on this planet had to payout trillions of dollars to stabilize CAPITIALISM - or CAPITIALISM will have collapse. Furthermore, in the late 19th century - ROBBER BARONS' stole and looted a country in broad daylight for decades - it is known as USA these days, and ROBBER BARONS are known as OLD MONEY these days. History has proved on numerous occasions that WHITE-COLLAR-CRIMINALS - always get away with the money and NEVER get CAUGHT! Other words - crime pays very WELL - lol!

A friend did this: She got a piece of paper and folded it in half and anytime she thought of a reason to have children, she wrote it down on one side. And anytime she thought of a reason not to have children, she would write it on the other. When she had her doubts about not having children, she would look at the list, and it would remind her that the decision she made not to have children was right for her. Any advice? Will I regret not having kids when I get older?
Dee Jay QLD Oz
I won’t comment on whether people should or shouldn’t have children. It’s very much a personal choice. I’m a Baby Boomer, now 66. I still clearly remember the day my in-laws visited, and MIL announced in no uncertain terms that couples who decided not to have children were the most selfish people in the world. I was 25 at the time, and had been married 6 years. We went on to have children, but I was disappointed that she had voiced her view in such a way, and created an “expectation” in our relationship. Children are everywhere (nieces, nephews, children living in care, neighbours, friends’ children ….. ), you can quite easily have children in your life that aren’t your own, and they are just as special.

I was reading an article today. A travel journalist commented on an elderly couple walking arm in arm along the streets of a country town. He described this as an example of "enduring love" or "mobility support". Why are some people sceptical about affection between elderly people? I like to think that in an ideal world, there should be no age barrier to people showing affection to one another. What are your thoughts on this issue?
writerrochelle
"Elderly" is such an ugly way of describing Senior Citizens. I'm 76 years old, and I have the "heart" of a 16 year old. I'm still compassionate and caring, lively and loving, thoughtful and thrifty, and I have empathy and humility. I was a good kid, and now I'm a good "Baby Boomer". As one grows older in years, our minds stay young, even if our bodies don't and, given the chance, I could love someone just as much now, if not more, than I did when I was young! ;-D

They all do that now. What was considered a little bit of money is now considered lots. They are just abiding by cash laws which compels them to report suspicious transactions.
By law any transaction that is considered suspicious can be reported even if it is below $10000.
It is no longer "your money, Ralph".

I would love to be able to create a topic of compliments and inspiration. The very first person to comment would state something they're grateful for, then the next person to comment would compliment or inspire the person above them, and so on. The only rule. Make it positive or inspiring for the person above you. The reason I would love to do this is because I believe there's a lot of people out there, myself included, in this world that may feel lonely, sad, or just lost ...

John Cleese recently pointed out that anyone who is REALLY good at what they do appear to think that only about 10 to 20% of all the other people who do that job are really any good ... be it doctors, plumbers, scientists, nurses, surgeons or chefs. I have just acquired four-step grandchildren. Their father is a major part of their lives, seeing them every week. I live in another state and will probably only see them once or twice a year. Taking care of the species we have on the Earth makes sense...bio diversity is important....but bringing back things that were extinct...originally by back breeding...and now by science...does that make any sense?...we have evolution...these creatures do not belong here...aren't we just playing God when there are so many more important things we could be fixing? (and spending the money on)
BLM
By 'wanton' killing off of other species on this planet - most famous example is the dodo bird - we/humans have been playing GOD for centuries! If evolution actual works, then humans will permanently disappear from the planet - one day. Which will give other species the opportunity to thrive and the planet time to heal itself!

In some cases, though, a relationship might not have the potential to be rekindled. In these instances, it can be healthier for each partner to focus on themselves and move on. A lost love may return, but only if both partners are ready and willing for that love to return and the relationship to continue. What are your thoughts? Can lost love ever come back?
Susan KTC
We all have individual lessons to learn in our life journey and sometimes it just isn’t the right time for a relationship, and as noted by several of you, love can be rekindled. My circumstances were different, I found my life time partner in my early 50’s, after several learning lesson experiences and two children, once those relationships ended, there was no going back!

I don t play any gaming on the internet Except for games on Rewardia. I got two accounts on my bank statement for $99.50 they were subscriptions to Gaming sites My banking online has now been shut down and my debit card destroyed while they investigate. I really don t feel safe. Now very time I m online Is this going to be a regular problem ? Or will someone come up with a solution?
BLM
Scammers are white-collar-criminals. White-collar-criminals ARE NOT severely punished as blue-collar-criminals in the USA (where I reside)! Are scammers going to be a regular problem going forward - YES (there are numerous ways to get anyone personal data)! The only person who can make it more difficult - for scammers to steal your money - is you. I do not use credit cards or my bank's debit card to pay bills online or offline. I do not use my bank's checks (since your account number and routing number is at the bottom of the checks - which is all the info a scammer needs to hack your bank account). I pay all my bills by USPS's money orders which are expensive - but they come with two receipts. I use cash for daily purchases. My credit score sucks - because I don't have any debt - but I have never been scammed/hacked (it
is a constant juggling act to keep your monetary info security). Furthermore, I have a landline phone with twenty-first century technology but does not have an internet connection - my landline phone cannot be hacked! Other words, you have to make your digital footprints as small as possible - so a scammer will not (hopeful) notice your digital footprints online or offline.

Humans are, by nature, social animals. That's why we care what others think of us: We want to belong, to be accepted, and to bond with other members of our social "pack." Caring about other people's opinions of us is a survival mechanism as old as humanity itself. I'm very curious about your thoughts. Well ... what do YOU care about?

The next time I talk to him, he tells me he went on my property and chopped all my trees and moved the shed slightly which is not what we had discussed. The shed was to go at the back. We are all eventually going to live in a cashless society. I really don't like this idea at look, because so many little things we do will be scrapped out, as cash will not be around. Jobs will be lost & more banks will close their doors. We need banks, banks keep our society to communicate. It is hard on many people to do everything via online & ATM machines. I have wondered what the reasons behind why I meet more women who start menopause younger and younger. I started just after turning 30. It seems that there is more to this hormonal change in our community of women than meets the eye. Wondering if our meat we are consuming are filled with growth hormones given to the animals before they reach out supermarkets and how it is affecting us in the long run.

From inputting your data and signing up for a phone plan to handing over your number to a real estate agent, our personal details are collected, stored and shared on a daily basis. What happens when that data is breached, and our identity is stolen. Is privacy even possible anymore?
WonkyandProud
From what I have heard on several podcasts, nothing is private anymore! It is a scary fact, and what is even more disturbing is the fact that people keep putting themselves in danger. Cell phones are a must when they don't need to be! Why don't people care? We lived without them just fine for centuries!!! Yes, they are convenient, but at what price? We accept any technology that is thrown at us, and we have no idea what the ramifications could be because we have no idea how they work! Those that do are speaking out, but no one is listening. Even when your devices are turned off, you are at threat! Where is this heading? There isn't much that the average person has to hide, so why track us? I think some of it is for merchandising and to monitor where we go and what places we frequent, but what about the government? I seem to have nothing they would be interested in so what do they want from us? That fact is scary! I hate cell phones because they have ruined our society. We can't even visit people without texting others while you are with them. To me, that is rude. If you want to talk and/or text to other people don't do it while you are spending time with me when I don't see you that often! Often times, people don't even hear what I say because they are on social media while they're here! Let's think about how unimportant that makes other people feel! Are those texts that important? I use a cell phone only because I travel alone and no one knows where I am. If I had an emergency, it could save my life. It isn't even turned on unless I need it! With all the crap that's going on, we need to get our heads in the places they need to be. Take care of your community. I love the Amish because they are there for their community and help each other out! They work hard, and we have become too lazy to even get up and turn the TV channel! Pathetic, aren't we? How are we going to handle what might be coming in this country? I wish I could say this on a public forum where it would be heard and make a difference. I know people are going to do what they are doing until they have no other choice and aren't prepared.

The middle class was once a symbol of the American dream. It meant financial security and an opportunity for a better future. But that portrait of the American middle class is quite different today. The "Middle Class" has already disappeared in Australia and it is entirely the fault of that same Middle Class!
Once, and it is not so long ago, a young couple were content to get a modest loan and buy a modest house and then, as time went by, gradually buy a better house to accommodate their family, leaving their older, more modest house for younger people so that they, too, could start achieving the Great Australian Dream: A Home of their own.
Then a New God, with absolutely nothing to do with religion reared it's evil head.
Its name is GREED.
No longer were those starting out content with that modest, affordable house. They wanted the Biggest House they could find.
It was reported recently that Australia is building the Biggest House in the World.
Not only do these younger people want the Biggest, Most Expensive houses they also want to have everything which opens and shuts and, preferably, without them having to lift a finger as it is all programmed, the lights come on so that the house is ablaze with lights when they get home, the Aircon is left on all day, the pool is ready, the garage is big enough to hold 2, 3 or 4 Range Rovers, Lexus, Mercedes and the children are returned by their ersatz parents to the parents who bred them. Every child Must have her/his own bedroom - no sharing.

People are always fond of hearing the word being rich or becoming rich. So, for us to be rich, we need to have a lot of wealth. But, the question is, how much wealth do we need to be rich? Some people are happy with two cars and an apartment in an expensive neighbourhood while others want a private jet and a villa in Monaco. So how does one become rich? The answer is...

Every time I check the balance of my retirement savings and kiwi-saver, they are heading south. I am over retirement age but still working, so find the current situation very distressing. Don't own a home and honestly wonder if I will ever be able to afford to retire. Considering closing my kiwi-saver and other retirement schemes and putting the money into a bank deposit account where it at least eRn something What are other people's thoughts?
Glenystas
After reading some of the comments below, makes me realise How lucky I am. We own our home, I have a Dept of Vet Affairs pension, Hubby is currently on jobseeker kind of payment but is experiencing ill health (nothing major). We don't drink or smoke, we enjoy a few hobbies: I love crafts like knitting (make some presents or sell items) we both like reading (library) He is into golf (Budget allows a regular game) He likes jigsaws... had so many and they didn't sell on marketplace so we have started up a jigsaw exchange at a local hall. I guess that retirement comes down to if you are self funded or if you can manage on pension, have a good budget and stick to it.

The main difference is you cannot have one without the other. Kindness simply proceeds in Gratitude, they both go hand in hand. How do you practice Kindness and Gratitude? Notice good things, look for them, and appreciate them. Always express gratitude, write it down or thank someone.
Bugalugs
In an ideal world Kindness would always be followed by Gratitude. In today's "ME First. Last and Always" world, Kindness is not always followed by even an acknowledgement - a simple "Thank You" is enough. If you are a Male, try opening a door, or standing aside to let heavily laden woman in/out and the best you might get is a snarl or verbally abused for being condescending!

I work in retail. I love my job because I am the last person the customer sees before they leave the store. I think we should always be kind to one another because everyone is fighting a battle that we don t know. So if we can make a difference in someone s day, that s what life should be about
Bugalugs
A smile costs nothing so why not use them?
What I find Most Annoying are those customers who pay no attention whatsoever to the person serving them - particularly in Supermarkets. These Female & Male louts spend the entire time on their damned mobile phones - discussing, Sandra C, Their Private Lives, they make no attempt to respond to the Check-out operator, when the goods are put through they wave their phones over the eftpos terminal, wait long enough to see if their payment has been accepted (when not they blame the store staff & seem to think they are responsible for their credit/debit card being maxed out) then they simply walk away. No Smile. Most certainly NO "Thank You". It is the Customers who are so often extremely rude and if the indifference we sometime experience (it disappears when we speak with then thank & smile) irks then maybe we should remember those Serving us are Real People and it is as a direct result of OUR Indifference to them which makes them indifferent to us!
One of the Most soul-destroying jobs and one of the lowest paid ones, are those unfortunate Women and Men who spend their day swiping goods past a scanner in our Supermarkets.
Give them a Smile, Say "Hullo", "Good Morning/Afternoon" and Thank them for their Service - they do appreciate it and will respond in a Friendly way.

'Guns don't kill people, people kill people', is what I have been hearing since almost forever. I live in America, where it is a Constitutional Right to own a gun. Yet, with the rise in ownership of assault weaponry and the rise of mass killings, some want to know if this is a good thing. While others blame it on evil people, who possibly would have killed anyway, gun or not. Your opinions on this is sought. Thank you.

Due to Social expansion and invasion in our kids lives, thanks to Tik Tok, Reddit, and Amino Chat: do you believe these forums are bad influences, teaching atrocious behavior and that lacking all respect for authorities much less themselves that they will not let go of their disrespectful behavior they've grown accustomed to? How do you think we can fix this problem as parents now?
Christina C 466456
It's the people around kids that influence kids the most. Not necessarily technology. Their friends, siblings, parents, school, community and online community which they have exposure to, influencing their thoughts. We're social creatures after all. It's up to parents to teach their children right from wrong or what is disrespectful and steer them in the right direction. Taking the time to educate your children will help them to make informed decisions so they can decipher what is rubbish and what is meaningful/important/useful information.
Investing more time in children pays dividends which is probably why 'back in the old days' kids had a more respectful culture - there were more stay at home mums. Distant parents = distant kids.
If you're worried about screen time, find out what they're passionate about and find a corresponding hobby so they can develop useful skills in the process (if they like gaming teach them about game development/3D modelling or if they like fashion teach them about marketing/sales, design school or architecture or chemistry in beauty products or how to make beauty products etc), or get some exercise (if it's martial arts, dancing or skateboarding etc). Take the time and find a useful way in which they can occupy their thoughts, challenge themselves and develop some useful life skills in the process.

While we in Australia wonder if we dare make any plans, I really want to travel again as my time on this Earth is running out. I especially want to return to Bali and get my little volunteer school up and running again and maybe one last trip to England where I was born. What dreams or plans do you have?
lippy loo
I think here in Australia we have been relatively lucky in comparison to other countries even with the idiots who flout the rules which have been put in place to nullify the virus effects. However, as I also live in Queensland we also have been left relatively free of the virus and our lockdowns have been limited. I do live on the border of NSW/Qld which causes angst but until this virus is under full control and it is safe to travel to other states I will be staying put. I have done my overseas travelling and visited many countries and although I loved it my sister who I travelled with has since passed and I have no further wish to travel without her. I am happy in my little bubble at the moment trying to keep away from the unmasked, unvaccinated, un social distancing people. I have family members with young children who live in Melbourne and Country Victoria now under lockdown and in isolation so am aware of the restrictive life they are under but they unlike many do not complain and realise it is safer to do so.
Maybe this virus will be with us for years to come in some form or other and we will have to learn to live with it having yearly vaccines to protect us. Plans and dreams may have to be put on hold until there is a safe exit. Who wants to bring this virus home to their children, parents, grandparents and it seems now anyone can get it. We have a lot in hospital all under 30 and some under 5. We older people have at least realised some of our dreams and the younger ones will also be able to realise theirs maybe not this year but hopefully next year.
Hang on to your dreams for now. Like the saying goes "it might not happen today but it will happen"

In some area's of Australia, esp the bigger city's, rental prices are now increasingly getting much worse. Our Pollies are sitting on their hands doing nothing about it. I believe rental prices should be really ...capped!. During Covid-19 last year, there was a moratorium on rental prices, for awhile, but we still have covid in Australia, so cap the rent! What do you say?
Frank N
We need policies that put dollars into the pockets of people who cannot afford to buy their own home, so they have the money to do so. That way there would be little need for rentals, or for social housing either. My suggestion is to pay everyone a basic living wage (not means tested).

The people who complain about such things as being "revenue gathering", etc. are usually just the morons who want to do stupid things on the road. I have been in HR for a long time and am a bit jaded from the corporate world. I went into HR to make companies a better by improving culture and therefore retention. But the corporate world seems to have no interest in that kind of long term thinking. I have started studying education support part-time looking at going into the education sector instead. Has anyone else experienced a career change? Was it worth it? Are you happier? Are you thinking about changing careers?

Did I experience a career change? My career change came with my first job - I got a (federal) civil service job based on civil service exam score instead of having to take a job in the private sector! Was it worth it? YES! Am I happy with my choice? YES (my civil service retirement comes with a COLA every four years). Furthermore, I retired on 100% disability - aka my civil service retirement check is 100% tax free. Am I thinking about a changing career? NO (been retired over 20 years and counting) :-)!

I've completed my bucket list. And, yes, there is one thing that I can think of that I can do retired but not while working.... I can sleep in until 8 if I want to:) and be to bed when I want to, take a nap in the middle of the afternoon or even evening if I want to. Short answer - sleep.

Do you send your child or children to school on the last day before the holidays with a small gift for their teacher? If you do, what is the most amount of money you would spend? I try to spend under 10 dollars on a nice jar of jam for their holiday breakfasts.
Lachelle B
Never did. But I do buy a dozen beer each Christmas for the rubbish collectors. Rain, hail or shine they still do their dirty work.

The idea that we don t tend to make judgements based on reasoning and evidence. We start with a hunch and go on a quest to have our existing beliefs confirmed. If we find a piece of evidence that does the trick, we can stop and present said evidence in case we have to justify why we believe what we believe What do you think?

I’m confused. I don’t know what you are saying. I may be having a bad day but I’m lost.

Surely I'm not the only getting constant requests to leave a review anytime I do, well pretty much anything!!, I even get Government departments emailing me to rate my experience with renewing a passport, or the Tax department call centre. This is all good and well, but I feel like I'm being nagged to give a review all the time. If I have a good experience....I'll give a good rating, otherwise Leave me alone!! What are your experiences??
MoB
Why give a review, if the company are doing a good job they will get return customers. If they do a crap job they won't get any return customers. That should give them the information they require, no need to give special praise, they are doing the job they get paid to do, that's all the praise they should expect.

Weddings are often talked of as a day for the bride and groom (especially the bride) to be celebrated. But I feel most of the time it is more for the family. To follow tradition and make everyone happy. I certainly feel like that about my wedding. Half of the attendees will be my fiancee's extended family, most of whom I do not know, and there are several last-minute changes I had to make because of his family expectations. Which I would have been completely fine with if...

Many people struggle with the choice between following their passion or choosing a stable career. A passion-driven career often brings joy, motivation, and personal fulfilment, but it may not always provide financial security or long-term stability. On the other hand, a stable career offers steady income and security, which can reduce stress and support future goals, but it may not always bring happiness or a sense of purpose. The balance between passion and stability depends on...

I did a damned boring job myself for half a century and I was paid very little. After almost 30 years with the same employer I finally got a raise to $7.47 an hour and I was so proud. Then they dropped the bomb on me that same afternoon! My job description was being terminated and that meant after the layoffs and the rehiring began, I'd not be hired back again. Instead at age 59 in 2008 I was force retired and now I struggle with only SS and a tiny pension each month which si why I do asinine online surveys for next to nothing- just to live! $$$ USD is the important thing! Ask any team's players!

Working a four-day week reduces burnout and improves job satisfaction, a new study has found. Do you see any positive impacts of having a four-day work week?
Andrew C 287196
It's the usual nonsense that has not been properly thought through.
1. If people can do the same amount of work in one less day, then they are obviously not working properly now - too much slacking off. The company could enforce proper working and get rid of some of the workers ... saving money (not that the company would lower the prices of their products / services).
2. If people are working properly now and getting "stressed", then removing one day means they'll have to work harder to get the same amount of work done and get even more stressed.
3. If people are working properly now and a day is removed, less work will be done, so the company will have to employ extra people to fill in the gap ... and therefore raise prices of their products / services.

Successful people have several common behaviours. They stay positive and motivated, finding meaning in their work and fully committing to their tasks. They have clear goals, think constructively, and are goal oriented. What is your experience? What kind of people succeed in life?
Purple Cat 154
It depends on what your definition of sucess happens to be?
Is it surviving in your work environment despite having to deal with difficult, unsupportive or destructive people. Is it staying in 1 job and getting a regular pay so you can afford a mortgage, buy a home, have a family ? Is it climbing the ladder to more responsibility and increasing pay? Or is it surviving a difficult family with trauma and recovering from using, alcohol, drugs, co-dependance, care taking others and being exploited by others because you are too kind hearted? Or is it finding peace through pray, meditation, finding balance by walking and spending time in nature? Or is it Love empathy of your near and dearest and being Kind to all peole that you meet regardless of live's challenges? I suppose we all have are own definitions? Live is challenging for everybody in one way or another, so I think we all deserve a medal for having a go and trying to do as best we can. It is not a race or a competition or trying to be better than someone else. I would like a t-shirt to say I survived and despite enormous challenges I have not lost hope or the ability to be understanding and gentle with myself or others.

Many happy, long-term couples sleep separately and still maintain strong, loving relationships. The key isn't whether you share a bed it's whether you're prioritizing each other in other meaningful ways. What would you say? Do couples who sleep apart grow apart?
BLM
Do couples who sleep apart grow apart? NO! Love 'might be' blind, but it turns out sleep isn't (deaf)! Hence, couples are opening their 'eyes/ears' to the benefits of separate bedrooms! While the idea of sleeping a part may seem counterintuitive to some(couples). Still, couples are finding that sleeping in separate bedrooms can lead to more restful night's sleep and a happier marriage (or relationship).

The ultimate/age-old battle of the S"ex"s (Apologies to anyone who may be offended by the term, baby mama/daddy) As the wife/husband, do you/should you set boundaries in regard to your partner's baby mama/baby daddy and the In-laws? If so, what and how do you enforce them without drama? And what if your husbands/wives/spouses Ex or even any of the In-laws won't respect you or accept your guys relationship, causing unnecessary grief in the hope it will destroy...

Your story is so confusing you need to set it out more clearly to understand in what are you trying to say

I have seen estimates online of how much people think you need to retire, but as long as you want a modest retirement, you could have saved a lot less and still retire. How much do you think you really need?
Sandyboo
I guess no one ever heard the saying we could never have enough money. I'm a lone with a small pension and i was on disability since i was 40 so my social security is very small and i have everything i need and never done without. So just live your life and quit worrying about what you might need, and you will be just fine
