This is a very simple dessert to make. It is of Dutch Indonesian origin coming from Manado in the north of Sulawesi. I am currently in that area building houses hence the post. At first glance, it appears like a lot of ingredients, but most can be found in many western pantries. 1/4 cup (30 gr) all-purpose flour 7 tbsp (50 gr) cornstarch 1/2 cup (100 gr) granulated sugar 1/2 tsp salt 1 cup (240 ml) coconut water 1 1/2 cups (360 ml) milk 2 tbsp ...

Sounds delicious and really good for you. When we couldn't get meat at the butcher's (1956 in Hungary) can recall my mum coming home and saying we're having potatoes with potatoes again tonight!. Thanks for clarifying what Edamame beans are and for sharing your wonderful receipe.

This recipe is incredibly versatile. You can use it to crumb chicken, beef, lamb, pork and fish. The Japanese panko breadcrumb is more crispy, crunchy making it more delicious in my opinion. This is one of our family favorites. Ingredients: 6 Chicken Thighs 1 cup of Japanese panko breadcrumb 1 large egg 2 tsp of paprika 1 tsp of garlic powder 1 tsp of onion powder Salt and pepper 2/3 cups of flour Oil for frying meat Directions: 1) Prepare 3...

I appreciate the time you took to share your recipe (and your recipe reads yummy). In addition, I am a 'hard-core-vegetarian' (you lost me at chicken (six chicken thighs at that)). Not sure substituting tofu for chicken thighs is going to work for me (an arithmetic issue). Anyway, this recipe is way beyond my 'limited' cooking skills (as I am a beginning cook)!

You had me at BANANA BREAD - but I have absolutely no control over my 'sweet tooth'; hence, I buy a slice of banana bread once a week at a bakery in walking distance of where I reside (an hour to walk to the bakery and an hour walk to back home (in theory I can burn off completely unhealthy calories from the banana bread)) - that way I can pacify my conscience) :-)) - I am diabetic!

What you'll need: - Buns (I get Martin's potato roll) - Meat (look for beef mince that is minimum 20% fat.) - American cheddar - Onion extras Extras (pickles, mustard sauce, lettuce, tomato, jalapenos) Preparation To begin, you want to grab your brown onion and slice as thin as physically possible. What this does is give the onions the best chance at getting caramelised and crispy in the short amount of time that they're cooking. Remember, we aren't pan...

Get a pot on the boil... dump in some onions, other veg lying around, and any herbs and spices you have or love... you are making a stock... it is EASY... and some salt... some powdered chicken stock... and boil it up! Next, add your chicken cuts and let them poach till cooked (or a whole chicken if you want!) Allow to cool completely. Next, you'll need three bowls: One has flour in it. One has an egg beaten up in some milk. The magical one has finely...

I've done this using up the crumbs from potato chip packets. Tastes great! (I don't boil the chicken first though)

For me I do not like timing out or not qualifying for a good share of them mostly I am sure has to do with they are geared to a younger population under 65. But even if I qualify I loathe two types. One is the virtual reality shopping aisles. I hate those and cannot maneuver them or make them work I just click out and won't take them. The other is the t.v shows I might have watched the night before. I won't take them because about half the questions are about stupid ads...
APB
Well aren't you the feisty one?..good luck with that..I get kicked out of most surveys or ripped off half way through..or at the end...almost all of them are really annoying...you just pray its not another insurance company or bank or health fund...after 65 it seems to be a miracle to get any surveys....Some times you get really brilliant surveys..that make it really worthwhile...but most of the time it is pure dross...

How often do you get screened out of Surveys? This is Not the fault of Rewardia but of the companies which employ Rewardia to run their Surveys for them. Today I attemopted to take 30, that's correct, 30 Surveys. How many did I get to take? Just ONE As soon as I entered my AGE and/or Gender I was screened out of the other 29. How's that for Discrimination?

It is not the screening out that pisses me off but spending up to 40 minutes providing answers just to be awarded 2 points, even slave labour pays more than that

Like myself there are many people at home looking after a family member. I originally had my daughter at the age of 4, get very sick and had a crash course in nursing in 3 months and had to look after her 24/7. People do not understand what you are going through and sometimes we need to know there are other people out there, like ourselves, that do understand. I am now looking after my husband 24/7 because of all his health issurs
PatCat
Having just found out that my latest op. did not work, I worry for my partner. He's already been doing much of the domestic chores on my behalf, whilst also carting me about some distance to various health appointments. We are both in our mid eighties and don't know how long we can keep being active. Who will need extra care first? As seniors we are not in a position to pay for much home care and I see the news says that is to be increased in price to seniors using it. Life in the old lane isn't much fun is it?

How many here are unfortunate to have December birthdays? As a twin who celebrates a birthday the week before Christmas, I used to hate having 'joint' presents as a child. In driving at night I've been blinded by headlights on 4-wheel drives. I flash my lights to let the other driver know they are on high beam. Then the other driver flicks up to high beam. So I've been blinded by their low beams. Should the 4WD vehicles have their lights lowered so they are not so blinding as they are a higher vehicle than the ordinary car?
MoB
Probably, drivers now have no idea about lights. A car was following me on a dark night with no lights at all, when we pulled up at the lights I let him know that he didn't have his lights on, he said I can see so why should I put my lights on. I tried to explain that the lights were not for him to see with but for other people to see him. I got the finger, very nice. Knowing about lights on your car should be imperative if you are driving, it might help to lessen the number of accidents we have.

In the days leading up to this Federal budget, I heard the media stating that the Pensioners are one of the biggest groups to benefit the MOST from this budget. This only benefits a very SMALL percentage of pensioners who actually...

I'm not retired and definitely do not believe elderly people are a burden. I feel similar to you about pensioners having paid there fair share of taxes. I also think that elderly people add a lot of value because they offer unique insight due to growing up in a different time. I've knoticed that Western cultures don't treat their elderly as nicely as Eastern cultures and this should change.

What do you think of the forthcoming increase in pension payments ? Can you survive on a pension? The pending increase in pension payments is just over $ 38 a fortnight, BUT my rent alone has increased by $ 40 a fortnight recently. Add to that rent increase, the much higher costs of electricity, gas, water, groceries, and other things, how are pensioners supposed to survive?
Liane H
Not sure if anyone else was still awaiting this amazing pension increase the media has been amping up to start on the 20th ? Well that was my payday and nope did not arrive. I have to wait yet another fortnight. Maybe it's d.s.payments get even further overlooked? Disappointed..very!!

I'm sure by now we have all heard the news that Queen Elizabeth II has passed away. I'm by no means a 'royalist' but not many of us can say we have worked while in their 90's. What?...don't look at me...I only started this discussion page...I thought you guys might know....but here is something great...when you buy a leek..cut off the bottom near the roots..lightly stick in 3 toothpicks around its middle and stick it in a large shot glass of water (or similar) and you can almost SEE it start growing after a day or so...give it 3 or 4 days...and then bury it up to the top in earth or potting mix or whatever (take out the toothpicks first of course...

Also when I lived at my parents as a teen I used to chuck avocado seeds in the backyard garden. They have a few fruiting avocado trees now. Apple cores/seeds chucked out a little before winter solstice (in temperate climates) should get enough cold hours to start sprouting by spring. You can also wash apple seeds then chuck em in a container with damp paper towel in the fridge (keep checking that it's damp) and this will give them enough cold hours to start sprouting (100% success I've found with this as all seeds sprouted). So yeah mum n dad have a few apple trees and crabapple trees.

My children do jobs at home to earn pocket money, but are slowly approaching that all important she where they can work outside the home in part-time jobs. Currently, they have a few after school activities and homework etc each week. My question is, do you have them give up the interests they have been cultivating for years, so they get the job early, or do you make them wait for the job? We are leaning towards them keeping the interests and keeping up the good grades at...
Ek M
Perhaps there's a way to do it all, but guess the sacrifice will come from the parents who taxi them to and fro. Once they earn their own money, charge them board, (and maybe bank the money for them to use later) this is a good grounding for going flatting. I had a friend who provided it all and when the child chose to go flatting, the wake up call was nearly more than the child could cope with

Yes I have seen one in Melbourne when I as a teenager and the nest day the media reported sightings of an UFO
Warrior Woman
I have twice seen one and I am basically a skeptic about flying saucers and Aliens. However on both occasions neither the Coastguard, Airforce, Police or anyone else can explain the lights I saw, which were brilliant blue when hovering, then flashed green as the zig-zagged back and forth for about 10 minutes over the ancient extinct volcano on our property, before flashing back to brilliant blue and disappearing over the horizon at an incredible speed.. They lit up the sky which woke my daughter on a neighbouring property on the second occasion. On the first occasion I was with about 6 other adults and we all reported our sighting. Several other people reported them on both occasions but we never received any logical explanations. Definitely unidentified flying objects

Yes they will close. I watch everything at home on TV. I do not have to see the latest film and most of these are not worth watching anyhow.

Whilst on the other hand, also places me at very high risk of getting the covid-19 virus. The road is for sharing and you should always be aware of other users and drive to the conditions. Be kind, be careful and if the traffic is slow then be slow or stick to the speed limit. It’s only going to take a few minutes longer….it’s really not that hard….lol

I learnt to use industrial sewing machines at the age of 14 but sadly now I am retired can't afford to buy one so I can continue making and repairing clothing. I also have a really good eye for colours and when we built our last home I knew exactly what I wanted, they told us to allow 3 hours to choose everything, had it all sorted in less than an hour, colour of bricks, roof windows, door plus everything inside. I also had to teach myself how to cook and after 50 plus years married husband still asks where did you get that recipe from.

What is up with Hollywood today? Most of the "NEW" movies today are only rehashed old movies. Where is their imagination gone? The older ones were good in their day, so why rehash them and in the process ruining a good movie. Wake up scriptwriters and use some imagination and this doesn t mean special effects with imaginary characters. What do other people think?
lippy loo
Years ago a movie was released into the cinemas and played for a few weeks or even months sometimes. Nowadays unfortunately, due to TV, cable TV, internet, netflix etc. they are barely even hitting the cinemas for a week and then hit the smaller screens. This means more and more movies have to be made and sadly many are rubbish. I agree, some are just noise and or trash and often the hype is just PR to get people to pay to watch them.
I rarely watch TV and never go to the movies these days. I do not have pay TV either.
Give me a good book any day.

I mean these supposed plus-size women aren't even fat. Most of them are just average or what would be considered normal compared to the rest of the population. I mean Marilyn Monroe would be considered plus-sized in today's era and she's the most lusted after woman that ever lived. I think they should change the term to "buxom" or "sexy". Keep it positive!

this whole discussion is based on personal opinion - i am a size 8 and find it offensive when people say i starve myself - or thin shame me (yes it happens often) - i am naturally this size i eat a lot, i exercise too and stay same size and think as long as you are happy in yourself it shouldn't matter what size you are - whatever words used can be offensive if we let them - i choose to smile and let it go

When we were scammed out of our life savings of $53,500 whilst building a new house we ended up with a mortgage and having to do all the landscaping ourselves so it is an ongoing thing, we just try and set out what needs doing the most and tackle it day by day.

Online shopping and express postage is great when it works, especially during lockdown. But with so many more parcels and packages being sent via post -- the care of fragile items by post office staff and couriers seems almost non-existent. I decided to order some bone china, they arrived smashed. I requested a replacement, the replacement also arrived smashed. Moral of the story: Don't order china or glass during Covid19 or do so at your own risk!

Hi Elizabeth T, please tell me what the hell did we do before the internet, we went to the shops, we were fitter, and we just go on with things without whining, make that special trip, you might find that there is a world beyond your computer screen, everything does not have to be convenient, to many people are just using co-vid as an excuse to do nothing, yes it's serious, but Australians can fight anything, walk away from the screen, it will not jump off the desk or your lap to kill it self, and the walk will do you good

The World Medical Association has said that boxing should be a banned sport because it causes fatalities and brain injuries. But life causes fatalities and brain injuries. Sport causes fatalities and brain injuries. Car accidents cause fatalities and brain injuries. Should we aim to ban everything? Boxing should not be banned. It's the risk the individual chooses to take when they play the sport.

I don't think it should be banned,if it is going to be banned then all contact sport should be banned. They just need to be wearing the right protection like helmets and mouth guards.

My hairdresser told me the perm is making a comeback. Will you be rushing out to get one? Perms are so 80s. I wonder if the blue rinse will come back in vogue?
Lachelle B
I decided to get a spiral perm in 1991. The poor hairdresser took five hours to complete it. The sun had gone down and I was still in her chair lol. I booked over the phone and when I went in she was surprised. My hair was past my butt and it's thick (but I did prewarn her over the phone). She deserved her $250 and I went to work the next day and was called telephone cord and poodle, but I liked it.

Apparently people who don't care what others think are happier and I'd agree with that. When you do what's best for you, things seem to run more smoothly.
Carmel C 103964
Caring about what others think makes me happy, because I enjoy caring.
I don't live as a hermit, I live in a community....so everything that other people do or think affects me either directly or indirectly.
If you are asking solely about whether my choices are based on what other people think about my choices..... then that is very different conversation. Do I care that someone I know hates it when I wear read. No I don't, because I enjoy wearing red. Do I care that my mother disapproves of me not visiting her more than I do...yes I do care...because I don't want her to feel sad or lonely.
Different situations result in different levels of 'do I care'. You can't lump them all under one heading and ask do you care or do you not....because it depends totally on what the situation or issue is. .

Seriously in 2020, with the pandemic and all the other crazy crap that is going on, an alien invasion would be a welcome surprise. And to be honest, I don't think anyone would bat an eyelid. Perhaps we could vote the Aliens into government. They would do a better job than our politicians are doing
lippy loo
Not heard any news here. I don't believe in aliens per se but life on other planets is a possibility but in microbe form etc. Can't see some form of intelligent life as we have if you can call us that as we came about by circumstances that would not be repeated elsewhere. A spec of dust or a microbe started us off.
I think the Governments are doing OK although some not so much. We are having a pandemic and they are in a fine balancing act trying to save peoples lives and also their livelihoods.
This virus is so virulent and we have the idiots who just don't get it going about and spreading it more.
Everyone stay safe, follow the simple rules of social distancing, quarantining if necessary, get tested if sick or asked, do not shake hands or hug, do not gather in groups etc. If everyone did this together we would probably not have the situation in Victoria, NSW and now it seems in Queensland.

Every time I look at the internet, there will be a story online shaming a couple because of their age difference. Are people really that shallow? If you have a problem with age-gap relationships, YOU are the problem. Lust and love don't discriminate

Having children is a lifestyle choice and not everyone wants to hear children screaming or misbehaving on international flights, in restaurants and so forth. I think we all deserve choices. I think we all deserve to have a peaceful coffee at a cafe without children running around. Not only would this provide an option for childless individuals but also parents who need some time-out
Patman Newcastle
No. Children are a part of every day life whether they belong to a family and are grandchildren or great grand children. They bring joy to the family.

I mean, isn't uploading photos of ultrasounds and small children exploitation? Not only do we exploit ourselves as adults, we also exploit our children before they are old enough to have a say

I have noticed over the years that people who play a lot of video games become aggressive in their day-to-day life. I try not to judge people but this personality change is pretty hard to miss. Anyone else experienced this?
Phyrephly
I think it also a desensitivity to violence in general with constantly seeing increasingly realistic imagery of people being raped or blown up or stabbed/gutted with knives. Then, the lights/bells/whistles that go off when you might kill another being (in a game) to win the round or whatever, makes violence a thing to be used to maybe get ahead of the game in real life. Sadly, I think many of these ultra violent/realistic type games were/are designed to do this. When you stab someone to death, they don't really die- they just come back at you in the next round. If you do this countless times then you very well may in some small way expect the same to occur in real life, especially if you haven't yet fully developed a brain that can tell the difference (fully) between RL and a game situation or scene. Bully or brutish behaviour, towards women say, if very often associated with heroism. The 'hero' of the round got to be the hero because he just shot 25 "bad guys" up with an AK47. 7 and 8 year olds may hav

We did not have one thing in common with each other - we did not socialize with each other on the job, and we did not socialize with each other on weekends (we did not work weekends) or on holidays (we got holidays off - with pay). Only four things I actually liked about my federal civil service job - the pay, job advancement opportunities, I got sick leave and annual (vacation) leave, and I got to wear jeans too work every day. Kitty, I would just like to suggest to you trading on the ASX, if you are aren't already. I guess Kiwis are able to trade on the Australian Stock Exchange easily. I would just like to share my experience. About 10 years ago I came across a book in the library called Top Stocks by Martin Roth. He brings out a new upgraded version each year at around this time. It is basically the thoroughly researched lowdown on the top 100 companies in Australia. They all must pay twice yearly dividends to get into the book. It sets out the criteria for making it to the 100. It is just fantastic for learning the ropes about investing in shares. I get so much pleasure of watching the ups and downs on the stock market. We are all investing in shares through our superannuation but you cannot get your hands on it until retirement age. Having a bit invested in the stock market on your own gives you the option of taking a bit of cash easily if you ever need some quick money. One just cannot go wrong with the 100 ASX sha
