Social media has been accused of being a cause of what's wrong today, with all the self-centered, narcissistic videos, dating apps making relationships trivial and shallow, and one too many people yelling, crying, complaining, and giving "expert" advice from their cars. But is it the tech or the times? If all of today's social media were available in that decade that's often idealized, the 1950's, do you think there would be the same results? Would people have used them...

I was there in the 50s. We would have taken it up and we would have missed the best of all times. Rock and Roll was King and we lived with joy and hope for the future. Now look at the world.

I am a full-time mama to 2 busy boys, and we decided to homeschool. A lot of my concerns that most people raised have really become non-relevant when I look at the actual research and statistics. Let s discuss the pros and cons of homeschooling versus mainstream schooling, and maybe other alternatives?
writerrochelle
Homeschooling eliminates bullying and diseases, but it may also eliminate socialization skills and playing with other children. But, I know families that home-school, and the children are just fine! They have closer family relationships. ;-D

Worried about whether the person you are chatting with online is a Chatbot?...well worry NO MORE!!...you can get an app now that is guaranteed artificial...she is gorgeous...she is crazy about you and neatly fits in your pocket...she pouts and teases...she gets jealous (what of wasn't explained...other chatbots?...real people?...the toaster?)...and is very popular with "lonely men in Asia"...you had better make sure your phone is charged up or you will be in BIG...

Most mornings, when I go out for a walk with my dog, I like to say good morning to people I pass. Sometimes people will stop to talk to me as a result. Would you say 'Good morning' when you are out walking?
BLM
I do not say good morning when out for a walk (saying good morning will trigger and bring repress, painful memories into my conscious)!

Common sense requires social interaction. Common sense is usually connected to universal truths. If you don't have regular social interaction, you might not learn what constitutes common sense and how to use it. This is why very smart people who spend a lot of time by themselves might seem to lack common sense. What would you say? Why has common sense disappeared?
NotFriedLikeMost
Common sense is not that common anymore because it pairs well with CRITICAL THINKING.
Nowadays, most are completely brainwashed by all things mainstream and they don't even realize this. They have SLOWLY had their ability TO critically think eroded to the point that most ONLY REACT, instead of stepping out of their indoctrination to actually think critically. Technology has played a massive part in this because everyone is a so-called expert when they can "google it" on their personal GPS tracking device, that has internet, that is invisibly chained to their wrist all day.
But, and this is the kicker, those who CEASE to critically think will rely on those "google" results as 100% TRUTH....and we know, or we SHOULD know, that most of the actual truths have been suppressed on purpose, search results purposely skewed to fit a certain narrative and so on. So now we have a plague of people so far brainwashed...without knowing it, but, also, these same people are SO SURE of themselves as well.
And, to counter the statement in the question posed by Natalia...if you think "Very smart people who spend a lot of time by themselves might seem to lack common sense"...then your perception of WHOM is "very smart" is way off because those who SEEM "very smart" to the general populace, are just the ones who are best at memorizing their brainwashing and regurgitating it on command.
As for myself, I am highly intellectual and DO NOT CARE to be around most people in society BECAUSE I use common sense and possess keen critical thinking ability and discernment. This comes with years of experience, observation and the one thing most lack....PATIENCE.

For me, the refusal to share your location, at any stage of the relationship, is not a "red flag". What about you? Is not sharing location a red flag?
Bex
For me, it's the other way around. Asking your partner to share their location is the red flag. It shows either mistrust, or jealousy. It's borderline stalking to have to know where your significant other is at all times.

Social media can be a double-edged sword. Sometimes it's used to create lasting connections, inspire new ideas and share accomplishments. However, social media can erode relationships, create distrust, cause miscommunication issues and act as a breeding ground for envy. What would you say? Is social media killing romance?
Ek M
Our definition of romance, is quite removed from the younger generations definition, perhaps the question should be: is social media killing personal connections?

The price of cigarettes in New Zealand has now hit $50 a packet., of which 80% is tax. Successive governments have pushed the tax up to try to reduce the incidence of smoking in the NZ population. It has spawned a black market, some of which is illegal importation, others have come onto the market as a result of corner shop burglaries. What is the experience of other countries? Are your smoking stats reducing? Why?
Sandra H 2204 NSW
It is mad that people are willing to pay that much for cigarettes. Paying through the nose for something that is just going to kill you (slowly and painfully) is just stupid. Sorry smokers but you must know that it is true!

If I want to protest, complain or even compliment I put pen to paper and send it either by snail mail or email, but others glue themselves to roadways, make a racket at a function, block waterways or interrupt speeches etc. which inconveniences others. When I write they have my name and contact details, someone reads it and in 99% of cases I get a reply. This does have advantages because I am then on their list of contacts, so I get newsletters as well as information as to...

I love jewelry don't take me wrong who doesn't, but jewelry is meant to be worn in the right way & a certain amount of it on you. I find the many people go overboard with it in all the wrong places. It makes it look ugly & also makes the person unattractive wearing it in the wrong places. Earrings are for ears, rings are for fingers etc. why do people go overboard & wear so much on their face or other places where it doesn't belong. Here you have as example an attractive...

To each it's own. Stop judging others because they like jewelry. You might think it makes a person ugly, but did you ever consider they like and love the way they look. The problem here you call these people ugly and judging them. Theres enough hate in the world and thats because some people judge other and forbid that they might be diferrent.

Getting really sick of being screened out of surveys for no reason. We come on to do surveys to earn points, not be screened out even on surveys of lower points values. Enough is enough. Some of us are barely earning any points for the day or night. It's unfair. Also while we are talking about stingy points, one point for losing on Bingo games is not good enough and some points for winning are very stingy. Please sort this out so we have more members playing

I did a survey today that went for 20 mins got to the end an was screened out, this is happening all the time so no point even starting. Plus why ask you your age PC more then 1 time.

I don't know what happened to manners and being well-behaved in public. When I hear young people throwing around the f-word, I am annoyed and insulted. I was taught to respect people around me and not just talk like I was raised in a ghetto. Shouldn't people be more respectful of those around them in public?
BLM
How someone verbally express themselves doesn't imply that 'they' were raised in a ghetto (GHETTO is Jewish word, and you are DELIBERATELY misinterpreting the use of the word GHETTO). Furthermore, I have heard the f-word used most often by WASP (White Anglo Saxon Protestant) on my federal government job as a secretary for over fifth teen years before I retired! WHAT IS YOUR POINT....are you advocating for the elimination of FREE SPEECH...

As I have got older, I have sometimes felt that I haven't been "successful" at anything throughout my life. I am not a lawyer, or a doctor, I don't have a University Degree, I am not rich, I have no specific "talents," have won no awards for anything, don't own property or flash cars. I am just an ordinary human being, who tries to live a "good" life (whatever that is!) as I move along this journey between birth and death. How do you define "success?" Do you measure...
Saara F
I guess we all think that way at some stage in life. We have not moved mountains so we think we have not achieved success however success is not based on what we have not done. Success is being happy. Success is confidence. Success is raising healthy kids. Success is much more than being top of the class. Success is getting through life in one piece and so much more.

Life is very different now than it was in the past, when leaving your children an inheritance was common practice. I still see many adult children who seem to consider an inheritance an "entitlement" whether or not their parents can realistically afford to leave them one. My question is: Should seniors choose large dogs vs 20lb and under? I was walking my dog and I often see seniors walking their dog. What I am surprised to see are seniors walking huge dogs - like German shepherds. Great Danes, boxers, golden retrievers- and others. I often see elderly unable to manage their large dog - due to strength - mobility, etc. should seniors stick with small dogs that are more manageable?

Meet my newly adopted dog, Panda! I'm going to pick him up after I log out. We think he's dachshund and terrier mix. I had to except the fact that I had a Stroke. At age 39 I Stroked as my daughters and I were getting ready for the day. My daughers were only 12yrs and 7yrs old at the time. It did not happen right away, I was very angry, I spent 2 months in the Rehab Hospital. Every1 I knew except for 1 person avoided me like the plaque. After many years I finally gave in and excepted that I had Stroked, Im now a totally different person, but it took quite a few years for me to be where I am now. They do not know why I stroked, but I truly beleive that it saved my life. Without getting to much in to it, I was drinking all the time, getting into fights etc. I am now though a much happier person. I am now 62yrs old, and I do not think I would of made it this long if I was the same person I was right after I got out of rehab.

While growing up during the Cold War, I was repeatedly taught that a big difference between us and the USSR was that the USSR banned books while we, in the free world, wouldn't do such a thing. Today, we are seeing many books banned in parts of America. Personally, I never thought that I'd see the day when books would be banned in America!

Books should never be banned. However, some books should not be allowed in public schools for minors. Adults should have access to all books.

Women boxing (women) and men boxing (men) is not a sport (under any set of twisted circumstances - PERIOD) and should have been permanently banned in all countries - decades (or is it centuries) ago (so much for humans capable of the doing the 'right thing' under any circumstances when capitalism principles are involved aka always about the money - LOL)!

So I've given up smoking gone to vaping to help my urge to have a cigarette, yet I still get judged for vaping. Like I need to quit etc yet why do so many people like to tell others how to live their life's? Can't people just let others do their own thing? Don't like vaping, don't vape Don't like smoking, then don't smoke. Like it's so simple. Some need to stop pushing their opinions on others, right?

It is of course your right to smoke or vape, but do bear in mind that others don't like the smell, so it's best to do it where it won't bother others.

Do you think being left-handed has more advantages than being right-handed? Think about Nadal being a left-handed world champion tennis player and how his dad and uncle forced him to play left-handed when he was a young boy. Do you think a child should be forced to be left-handed and then end up being ambidexterous?
Zebra
I am ambidextrous.
I was forced while in school to choose either one not both.
This was hard for me growing up, yet through the years, I grew up I would practice with both hands, while not in school.
So glad I never let these teachers stumble me into only using one hand.

Has anyone experienced children, being so rude around you & their parents/carers can see what they are doing & they don't make the child to stop? In my opinion, what are as a parent/carer to allow this in the 1st place? If you're sitting in any public transport for example, the child kicks the back seat behind you or throw you their rubbish, just enough to the stage you had enough. You as a person turn your head to speak to the parent/carer & they don't care. This isn't right,...
Skiwi
That why our generation behave themselves (baby boomers)because we knew we would get a clip behind the ear. But in this PC world you can do this know so I blame the younger generation for this.
If they kick the back of my seat I would turn around and say if you keep this up I will brake your legs. If they are front with a reclining seat I would tip reclining seat saying I was getting up accidents happen Nd with rubbish I would throw my rubbish on them.
You may get it I am not PC and I will call a spade a spade and don't care who I may offend. Not one should have to put up with that kind behaviour.

I am just wondering how people in this situation of when are children too young to be taking medication for ADHD, autism etc. my granddaughter is 7 and her mum wants her on medication. Plus now she's talking about putting her 4-year-old and 2-year-old as well. When is it too soon?
NZSCORPION
Personally I wouldn't give kids man made chemicals to sort out a natural chemical imbalance they already have thats been diagnosed. I think it would lead to problems later down the track being on drugs from an early age.
40 or 50 years ago you didn't here about adhd or autism until someone unleashed it on the world, now everything a kid does that we used to do as kids is labeled.
Maybe they should look at the food that is consumed by the kids as to the causes of their labeled diagnosis.

The Kardashian Family is a very controversial topic. Most people just skim over the facts and assume that everything they see on social media is true and factual. However, they are just people, and everyone chooses to depict them as these horrible, spoilt, no-talent, plastic filled monsters. However, this is so far from the truth. I have this issue with doing washing every single day for our now 11 and a half year old. The GP says it's a phase that he will overcome. My girlfriend wants to keep on using these night pant products called dry nights.... I told her that we would be better off taking him to a pediatrician or something alike... Being our first, my question is does make a near 12-year-old wear these products to bed do more harm than good? He also has camp coming up in late August......
Liane H
It's quite common in boys, My son was the same. Except we didn't have those in that sizing back then so it was bed liners and washing each day . There is a nasal spray that can help to slow things down, but basically in most cases it's simply hormonal,( the hormone responsible for concentrating the urine overnight is less present than it should be) and you will find once the 12yr mark kicks in or soon after ,. It will just stop. It's very frustrating I do remember ,but it's important not to let your child feel like it's an issue, They can't help it, It's not from trauma and it's not going to help restricting drinks before bed either. There are plenty of tips online . Don't bother with the bell and pad system either,, all it does is wake the child up when they wet with an alarm and interrupts their sleep often twice a night, more! .. not worth it . As I say it will just miraculously stop once his hormones kick in . Hope that helps some :)

You can't tell the difference....it is saving the planet...it stops animal cruelty.....and this runs against... you can taste the difference...it is made of vegetables, so why does it cost twice the price of meat...if you are going to stop animal cruelty there are better ways...........surely being a vegetarian means eating no meat, so why do you need a meat substitute? Are you missing your dead animals? What do we think?
WonkyandProud
I see no point in humans becoming vegetarians. What do we do with the animals that we have on the planet? Cows have to be milked, and there's nothing better than beef in my opinion. People are not herbivores. Why do we think we are so civiilized that we are too good to eat meat? God put them here for us to use, but not to abuse! There are humane ways to slaughter animals. I think it's more important to focus on people slaughtering other people! What the hell is going on there? We need to figure that out ASAP! Get rid of the drugs, cults and mental illness and automatic weapons. The founders of this country did not mean for us to be armed like the armed forces. The US is the worst country for murder, why? Are we too spoiled that we are bored and are looking for love instead of drugs or material things? I think it's a combination of drugs and working and divorced parents. Homes are broken!

(rHDPE is recycled High Density Polyethlene)...sounds great right?....what these creeps are ACTUALLY doing is making bottles that are 50% rHDPE...and half VIRGIN plastic...but the recycled component is rHDPE....with people like this "helping" it's going to be a long hard battle to recycle our plastic waste just cowboys making a quick buck out of lying...
Tim @miAimTIL
All current plastic produces can be made from Hemp that grows in 3-5 months and 100% degrades to nothing in 75 days

When eulogized or spoken of by family and real friends that know you best, what could they say that would be important for others to know about you first and foremost that was unique about you or something important you strived for or to be in your earthly life?
merci
When I die please do not weep, for it's not me there, I do not sleep
I am the thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sun on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain,
when you awake in morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in morning light, I am the starshine, soft at night.
Please don't be sad and do not cry, for it's not me there, I will not die

There are some clothing fashions around that I find really ugly, and I always find myself wondering who on earth would buy them. It's not only the style, but the colours are mostly dull and uninspiring as well. At the end of each season, I have a bit of a laugh because I often see these ugly clothes in the clearance bin. Are there any fashions, if any, that make you cringe?

I recently spoke to a friend. She has decided to go into a nursing home as she dislikes living on her own. While her children see to her needs, she rarely sees her grandchildren. People go about their lives while working and going out etc. Could they spare half an hour a week or even a fortnight to visit their grandmother that is lonely? It is sad to see and hear how people act towards someone who once also had a full life.
Kerry Z
I liked the show on the ABC where they took the schoolchildren to visit the nursing homes. The people living there got so much out of it & the children also benefited from the intertactions.

My mother once gave me a pack of ladies' panties for Christmas. Although they were wrapped beautifully and under the tree with all the gifts for other family members I was shocked - especially as they weren't even my size. What is the worst gift you have received?

For Christmas this year, my family all had covid and for thanksgiving, I had shingles. Thankfully we all recovered.

Recently I found something in my corn chips from Coles. It was large, thick and dark brown. I kept thinking, please do not let it be that. I have to return it to Coles and get a refund. Four weeks ago, I found metal in my mouth after eating Asian noodles. I still could not believe that might have been in it. I have not reported the noodles. Have you ever had something like this happen to you?

Tens of millions or even hundreds of millions of people were unemployed in the Great Depression. When the stock market crashed, failure of government policies, bank failures, the collapse of money supply, and the collapse of world trade due to the Smoot-Hawley Tariff in 1929 and the 1930s, many people in the world in the Great Depression are unemployed and/or losing their jobs. When the Great Depression ended in 1939 probably because of the world war,...

My Mother said when she met my Grandmother for the first time, she noticed 2 of their plates were chipped. Instead of helping to wash them up she deliberately dropped them, smashing them to pieces. She said now you will have to get new ones! What do you think about eating/drinking from chipped or cracked kitchenware? Do you think it s offensive to serve up your guests on such decor?
BLM
It is NOT the quality (chipped or cracked) of the kitchenware that counts, it is the quality of the food being served to you in a personal (or family) setting THAT counts! I appreciate the time it took to serve a well-cooked meal - not the appearance of the kitchenware - as long as the kitchenware is clean and safe to eat from - Bon Appetit :-))!

What can we do to reduce the changes and impacts that climate change had on our daily lives? In the pacific islands, low-lying islands are eventually covered with seawater and maybe in about 10 years time, lots of the islands will now be disappearing.

Try a healthy diet and plenty of exercise. It's not a disease for most people and they should stop wasting doctors' time and medical resources that are needed by people who genuinely need them.

If someone was rude to you in public how would you react? Would you keep the peace, or would you report it, or would you insult them back? I ask this because my brother told me how someone was rude to him at a restaurant he went to last week, and he ignored him. But later regretted that he didn't report it. As he may insult other people just minding their own business. What do you guys think?
Lachelle B
Both sons' work in hospitality, both deal(t) with rude and/or aggressive customers daily. Customers vent, they calmly respond. Due to the high activity of violent behaviour from druggies and drunks there is now a sign at my youngest Liam's work. 'Our employee Liam is also security. He is a MMA fighter, are you? Please be respectful to our staff, thank you.' No incidents for three months and counting.

"I never want to go into a rest home". If you have a parent over 70, there's a reasonable chance you ve heard this, maybe over Christmas dinner or after a friend s parent was moved into care. How to respond to that?
Linda 1473555
I'm in that age group and I built my home so it would be suitable for living in as I age. Downstairs has wider doors for wheelchair if needed and no steps. Dont need to go upstairs. Hopefully I will be able to get home help. My sister and I cared for our parents up until the end. They brought us up, so we should care for parents. If its not possible then so be it. I have seen friends go into some very caring nursing homes but there are some that I definitely would not go to. I have had discussions regarding that stage of life, death and funeral as well. Communication is so important.

That is hardly fair for nurses, doctors, and other hospital staff or ambulance workers or police or those in the military forces and those who work in our prisons and those who feed us in restaurants or cafes. We are making it hard for small businesses to add to the new taxes imposed upon them. The only people who can WFH are clerical workers and government staff and the government staff take so long to do anything anyway that WFH will make the situation worse. It is a division of society that will make it harder to get staff in all those cases I cited before - and I believe we need them even more than the clerical workers.

Is it my imagination or do people talk more than they actually listen? As a security guard I find people over talk and talk over every one. Instead of listening and helping to resolve issues very quickly with little drama. I listen and I propose simple solutions based on the principle of compromise. When you talk you repeat what you know, when you listen you learn what you don't know.
writerrochelle
"When you talk you repeat what you know, when you listen you learn what you don't know." I LOVE THIS, Brocky! I have to admit, I, too, tend to talk over my friends sometimes, mostly because if I don't reply to what they're saying right then, I may forget what I needed to say! No excuse. I need to listen more, and talk less, but some people don't give me a chance to reply! God gave us 2 ears to Listen, and 1 mouth to Speak! 🤭

What's food from childhood that you loved then but would never eat now? Or alternatively which food did you loathe in childhood, but enjoy as an adult? My hated childhood foods were meatloaf, lamb's fry, pretty much any vegetable except potatoes & carrots. I still won't eat meatloaf or any offal, but I love my veggies as an adult. How about you?

My father taught me not to lie when I was 6. It wasn't the speech about how "it's always better to tell the truth" that did it. It was the look of disappointment on his face. I never wanted to see that look again, from anyone. I find being lied to very hard to take, but being lied about is even worse, because if you can't prove otherwise, human nature being what it is, people will always believe the lie. They won't believe you. There's no fun in that. No drama. So...
Cindy
I can't stand liars or thieves. There is just no good reason for dishonesty And if you are going to lie, you need a really good memory to keep up the bs. Liars always get caught out and then their reputation is shot.

Do you believe that people should have the right to have a doctor assisted suicide? People that live in incredible pain, people that are so depressed that they want to die. Thoughts?
Michelle S 553303
I spent many years working as a Palliative Care nurse and in Aged Care situations as an RN. Assisted suicide is a normal part of end of life care for some and terminal sedation is a practice that has been practised for many years. I remember an incident in a public hospital I worked in, and we were warned not to discuss it, but it was more than a decade ago. An elderly man had very bad frontal lobe or Dewy Body Dementia. He was being cared for at home because he had been previously admitted to other Nursing homes in and around this area, but due to him flinging his fists around and utterly refusing personal care because he no longer understood what these strangers were doing to him, his physical health was suffering and they wouldn't have him back again. He wasn't getting nutrition, hydration and as he was doubly incontinent he was getting bad excoriation on his privates and the pain from this was causing more negative behaviour. He would refuse tablets and spit them out if the nurse DID manage to get them in his mouth and consequently he wasn't even getting the antipsychotics and calmatives he needed so he could recieve adequate care. So we have a human being who is just a mere shell of who he was, and that was an absolute creep as we remembered him from long ago, who's family could no longer cope, were out of resources and had ZERO other options for care. So the decision was made with his specialists, local GP and family to bring him into the hospital for terminal sedation. We were NOT obliged to care for him and we had the option to refuse to give the medication that would take him away from this earthly plane of existence. From my recollection it took about 72 hours for his heart to stop. He hadn't been the man he was for some time and his family had already grieved that loss some time ago. All there was now was relief and thankfulness that neither would suffer any longer. I'd be interested if anybody has a suggestion as to how THEY might have managed this situation if THEY had been this man's family. I suffer pain all the time and sometimes it's so bad that I wish it was all over. Nobody has the right to tell me that my suffering isn't bad enough to warrant me thinking of a permanent way out. I take painkillers but you become used to them after some time and the efficacy reduces. But people should be able to choose to end their lives on their own terms and we show animals that kindness. Why NOT humans who are suffering?

I like to see what I buy, but packaging often hides the contents, either the quality or the quantity. I often get potatoes that are already sprouting I purchased 2 boxes of breakfast cereal today, and I was surprised at the amount of cereal compared to the size of the boxes which showed 435gr. I weighed the contents and one box contained 365gr of cereal and the other 411gr. Feeling cheated.

My issues (in NZ) are: Why is pork from Poland? And beef from Australia? Am I paying for the air in chippie packets because there seems to be more of that than chippies? When I used to dunk my gingernuts (get your smutty minds out of the gutter) they were wholesome dunks in my cups of tea. Now it's a petite holding of the biscuit. And expect prices to rise...again. Trucks will pay more for fuel to supply goods thanks to a certain person..... and once again the consumer pays.

Lessons often learned too late include that time passes rapidly, making it crucial to prioritize health, relationships, and experiences over material pursuits. Key realizations involve overcoming the fear of failure, acknowledging that you cannot please everyone, and understanding that self-care is essential for long-term happiness. How is it with you? What did you learn too late in life?

I gave no permission for a Car Insurance renewal policy, but to my horror, the very popular Insurance company renewed it anyway using an expired credit card they had on file. They simply changed the expiry date on the credit card. Of course, I cancelled it right away. My question is, should I report this company to the Government watchdog?
Pearlz
We have found a few insurance companies renew policy's without instructions to do so. My concern is that they used an expired credit card and I have no idea how they managed that because not only would the expiry date have changed but another number of 3 digits would have changed also so your bank should have declined it. If it were me my first call would be to my bank to ask why they had approved the transaction, my second call would be to the Ombudsman because it isn't on. All the best.

Ditching the phone on holiday allows for deeper immersion in surroundings, reduced anxiety, and better connection with travel companions. Key strategies include notifying others of your break, using physical cameras/maps, setting strict, limited hours for checking, or opting for a "flip phone summer" to avoid distractions. Would you agree to such an idea?

As Karen said, on holidays my phone is for emergencies only - like the time we were in Darwin and we got the call saying our alarm had gone off at home in South Australia - security guard found a very large Huntsman spider sitting on one of the alarm sensors!

People often do not think about their habits, rituals, and routines at all because those are so ingrained into our personalities. But when you discover those little things that you happen to do similarly, it can bring you together, because they make you feel alike in some way Do you do something that one of your family does, and you find it funny and then realise you do it too? Do you read every night before going to bed? Do you talk to your plants?

We know about growing herbs and not wasting food... the single most important piece of equipment you need is a large chest freezer... (even two) THAT is your best friend... you will be surprised at just how much you can freeze... and just how much supermarkets can discount food... they will almost give chicken and pork away... my dog is eating VIP food that costs $8 a kilo, and it costs me $3... my mushrooms usually cost $5 or $6 a kilo rather than $13 you can...
Chrissie
Hi APB, we have a vacuum sealer & frozen food lasts so much longer when sealed this way. We have a great vege garden & we are fisherman, so have lots on hand in the freezer. It is also a good idea to have an infirmary of what is in the freezer. Our frozen food is also dated so we know to use the older food first.

In 1994, 62 children ages 6 to 12 outside their school yard in Ruwa, Zimbabwe. Some of the children saw one or more silver craft land on a nearby field and some of the children claim one or more creatures dressed in black approached and communicated telepathically an environment message to them. The children who saw them drew the same drawings of the creatures. This is a true story. Believe it or not.

As people age, their world can often more focused on their own immediate needs, health and daily well-being. It’s strange this discussion coming up. My mum died last Sunday. I’m not after sympathy, but I know people care. It was a blessing for her as she was very poorly and it was a huge relief to see her suffering end. About nine years ago I answered my mum back for the first time in my life. She would not recognise my first grandchild as family because she was fostered and in her words not mine “ she isn’t blood”. This hurt very much, this beautiful little girl was my first grandchild and I love all my grandchildren equally. I kept my distance for a while but got abusive phone calls from my brother and nearly had to take out a restraining order. My mum changed her will, and I had no say over her health as she got older and deteriorated. She was put in a nursing home, which was very comfortable but she kept asking me what had happened to all her belongings. I didn’t know. I visited her and we spoke and I love her. My psychologist said I would never get an apology for the hurt she caused me but I forgave her. Sorry for the ramble but thank you for letting me write.

There was a time in professional sports when the umpire/referee made a decision, it was accepted as final without question. Errors were made, but were acknowledged as part of the game. Today, almost every decision is referred to an authority away from the playing field. This not only interrupts the play of the game but calls into question the integrity of the field official.

I think it is needed as some are hard to see and it makes the decision easyer to make and is a more fair way

Coming from a very large family, it becomes a big question when Christmas rolls around as to who to invite for Christmas dinner. I usually decide on it based on who gets along with whom. Then I don't hear the end of it when I don't invite certain members. I decided not to put on the Christmas dinner for the past two years; it didn't feel like Christmas without family around on Christmas day. Do you experience any of this? What would you do?
P F
My family is large as well. What we do is meet at the local park, lake or nearby beach. Everyone that wants to come brings a main and a dessert to share at a communal table. The children are catered for by water activities and a playground. Adults mingle with whomever they want. At the end (most of it is paper plates\plastic cups) cleaning up takes seconds. The burden of catering is not left to a single person. And our rule is no presents. Having fun, bringing food, participating in activities...that's the present.

Recently our cat was mauled by a savage dog even though it was on a leash outside our house. Its owners had no control. I have never witnessed such torture and was devastated, `The cat was so injured, it has to be out down. We had no success on insisting that the dog should be put down to prevent other incidents. Next time it might be a child. Surely, there should be more restrictions on such animals, \What do you think?
PeacefulKaz
Yes, I agree, dogs with those killer tendencies towards cats often go onto to attack people, have seen this many times when working with council dog pound. Often they can not be rehabilitated and have to be euthanised, sad for all concerned. More restrictions, visits are needed for dogs such as these and this savage dog that mauled your cat on a lead is a public safety issue. More than often it is the owner at the cause of the problem with encouraging aggression and non socialisation of dog at fault. There are alot of people involved in dog fighting now and these people couldn't be trusted to look after there dogs and need these animals taken off them

For me, it is completely normal for someone to choose to stay single forever. People have different life goals, values, and preferences, and for some, being single may provide the freedom and independence they desire. What would you say? Is it normal to want to be single for the rest of your life?
P F
I am single and have been all my life. I enjoy it. It's given me time for self growth. Most of my friends got married within 2 years of leaving high school and took any low paying job they could to pay the bills. I became a teacher and travelled all over the country I live in. I play several instruments, write songs and have a band that we preform at local events. I own my own house, 2 investment properties, a government and a private super, shares and a good size chunk of cash in the bank. Being single DOESN'T mean being lonely. I have great friends and have had relationships along the way. The freedom I have to do anything I want whenever I like is amazing. I don't need to ask anyone's permission to do anything I feel like doing at the drop of a hat, and money is never a problem. When I look at my friends and how deeply they are in debt to the almighty credit card I thank God I'm single. And as far as never having children...well I'm a teacher that is surrounded by children and I have 6 nephews that think I'm the greatest uncle ever due to the gifts and adventures we have had in the past. And still having adventures today with their children. Life is good.

I feel that if done safely there should be no issue but a mandatory licence and helmets would be needed along with an age requirement to make it safe

Hi David thanks for this discussion topic. Hospital emergency departments and aquired brain injury wards are testament to people either not using them safely and responsibly, or being injured through no fault of their own.

Sometimes people wonder whether it is always best to tell the truth, or if small white lies are acceptable in certain situations. The CFA (fire brigade), SES (emergency service), They are in most Australian towns, so no surprise there. If you were to die tomorrow, would you have enough funds to cover the cost of your funeral? At the moment I am putting away money weekly in a funeral fund and hopefully by the time of my death there should be enough to cover my funeral, so my son doesn't have that expense. I am interested to hear of other people's plans about what/or not they are doing to be prepared for that time

after paying funeral insurance for 58 years, my mum died in Tasmania whilst visiting my sister. No funds released for her funeral as she didn't die in NSW where she lived. READ THE FINE-PRINT PEOPLE!

One of the things I miss most about school days is the sense of routine and shared experiences. Every morning started with familiar faces, hurried greetings, and the rush to beat the bell. Between classes, we shared jokes, snacks, and secrets that felt like the center of the world. Even the most ordinary days standing in line for lunch, group projects that turned into laughter sessions, or the quiet moments before an exam now feel golden in memory. School was more than just...

I attended segregated public schools (kinder garden to the 12th grade) in the USA. My segregated public schools' years are not pleasant. Hence, I 'rarely' reminiscent about my segregated public schools past because I do not have one positive memory! Also, during my public-school years I resided in segregated neighborhoods. Yet, I did learn one cold, hard, ugly fact (from segregation): THE UNITED STATES HAS NEVER BEEN A DEMOCRACY.

The cost of living in Australia is among the highest in the world, mainly because of expensive housing, services, and everyday essentials. Housing is the biggest factor, with rents and property prices in cities like Sydney and Melbourne ranking among the most costly globally, often reaching $600 $750 or more per week. Utilities such as electricity, gas, internet, and phone bills also add significantly to household expenses. Groceries are expensive too, with a family s...

Cripes. You could have written that about New Zealand. It beats me why New Zealanders leave here to go to Australia. Hey NZers on Rewardia, I hope you carefully read this discussion of the day....

The biggest reason why getting back together with an ex doesn't work is if your relationship patterns don't change. If you and your ex are getting back together in the same relationship, with the same mindset, the same insecurities and the same issues; then reconciliation will probably not work. What is your experience? Why does getting back with an ex never work?

Never get jealous of an ex with a new partner....I was brought up being told that you always give away your used toys to the needy.

Choosing between being born in 1975 or 2025 depends on personal preferences for societal conditions, technological advancements, and life experiences. Would you rather be born in 1975 or 2025?
Azz
1975 because today 2025 is too confusing right is wrong, left is right, we don’t see eye to eye about anything that’s happening in the crazy world.

We are elderly and ill, and need to pay people to work for us. It seems no one wants to work anymore. We pay cash money. I don't know what is so difficult about stacking wood up for someone for winter. Every time the guy says he will show up, he is a no show. I fired him once, then giving him one more chance, we will know tomorrow if he will show up this time.

The irony is that this current generation never stops to think about who is going to do the work for them. I mean, they don't want to work becasue they just deserve to be given everything, so why would anyone else want to?!? We're all now paying for a welfare system that has created generations of slubberdegullions.

Sometimes the smallest things can brighten our whole day, a kind word, a funny moment, or even just a good cup of tea. Take a moment to think: What made you smile today? Share it below and let s spread a little joy together!

Looking out of the window and seeing two Black Ducks fast asleep in our garden. We believe egg laying is going on in our hedge which happens twice every year when the same pair visits us. Last year we escorted about 18 ducklings and mother off the premises and down to the river.

We often talk about finding ourselves, being true to ourselves, or losing ourselves in something greater. But what if the "self" isn t something we discover or protect what if it s something we invent? Some neuroscientists and philosophers suggest that the idea of a stable, unified self is a useful illusion a narrative our brain constructs to make sense of our thoughts, emotions, and memories. From childhood, we weave experiences into a story, and that story becomes our...

We are born with a self because we have a personality right from birth. That self, like other beings, evolves and develops over time through various experiences as well as our own genetic predispositions. Just as the self can expand over time, it can also deteriorate just like organic and non-organic matter. Does this mean that the self is just an illusion? Absolutely not. If a piece of metal melted due to extreme heat, would you then say that the metal never existed? Of course not. We know that the same matter can move from solid to liquid to gas or any combination of such changes. The self should be considered in the same way as it shifts from one form to another to yet another.
