There is a housing crisis across this nation and if you fall into certain categories it is even harder to get housing Women over fifty have less super sometimes as they have stayed home to raise children, later becoming divorced or widowed, young families, low income earners Empty nesters, and older couples The governments are trying to fix this problem, but this should've been thought of forty year ago, not now What do you think could improve this crisis and would...

It is not the banks that are at fault it lies at the feet of the state and federal governments they need to put a halt on immigration and stop housing refugees etc and put our own people first, also with older women it is not only those who stayed at home back even in the seventies and early eighties a lot of women werent covered by superannuation and that fault lies at the feet of employers at that time, that was one good thing which is due to unions.

Not everybody knows what they're calling in life is, for most of us it's not until we're much older and much wiser that we stumble upon it and if you're one of the lucky ones, you've found it early on, but nonetheless we all have one, a calling, a purpose, a thing we're really good at and that we really love doing. If you've found yours, write a few sentences about it and share it with the rest of us, I'd really love to hear how your story impacted you. I'm sure there isn't...

Mine, IMO, is kind of unique. I had been working in marketing for McDonald’s and I was overseas opening up the first store in New Caledonia. There was a female staff member who was having a threatened miscarriage and she was taken to the white hospital in the capital. She didn’t lose the baby but that experience led me to look at the hospital for the indigenous population and I was very disappointed in the difference of care and the infrastructure which the Kanak people had access to in comparison to the French speaking population. After returning to Australia I made the decision to apply to University and study Nursing and become a Registered Nurse instead. That career choice was the best decision I ever made and although I earned less money the satisfaction was far greater than selling hamburgers to 3rd world nations. Thanks for reading.

The government want us to save for our retirement. Great, we are doing that. A little in the bank, a little invested, stocks and bonds ect. We have managed by not having holidays, not going out and working hard to pay off our home. Now they are pushing to have interest rates down at very low amounts. So we aren't getting any interest on the money we have in the bank. I feel for the ones with mortgages at the moment, but we have all gone through it if we own a...

The rich continuously get (income) tax cuts. Corporations continuously get (income) tax cuts. These tax cuts contributed SIGNIFICANTLY to rising income inequality! FYI: It has NEVER been about interest rates (a myth). It has ALWAYS been about WHO gets ongoing (income) tax cuts (reality)!

Should we still have the death penalty for people that commit horrendous crimes like murder and rape?
Sandra H 2204 NSW
I know I am opposite to everyone else, but I say no. I would rather someone die in goal than the smallest chance of killing someone who may be innocent. It is not unheard of that people have been found to be innocent after having spent time in goal for a crime they did not commit. The cost to keep another person in goal instead of killing him should not come into it.

What have you learnt, good or bad? Has it changed your perspective? Was it a farce? Fearmongering? Are you better for it, or worse off? General question, many options, speak your mind

Nothing but a scare campaign on humanity. Klaus Scwab, (WEF) one of the most insane minds on the planet openly stated that this 'covid' epidemic is a trial to see how they (the elite) can control and persuade the population into believing what is forced upon them.
Fauci (usa head dr) is another evil minded lying (so n so)
Funny thing, I saw an ad for Glen 20 and at the end the lady speaker clearly stated that it kills Covid 19!!
If that's the case, why were injections forced upon the population?
Ever wondered where the flu and common cold have 'disappeared' too?
Has anyone on the planet provided or seen any proof?Love too go on but I wont. Thanks

Have you ever been told you wouldn't be able to accomplish something you were passionate about? You may have been discouraged by parents, other family members, friends and even teachers. However, it was something you felt passionate about or had confidence to accomplish it regardless of what others said. What is something you were discouraged from pursuing, but you went ahead and accomplished it anyway? I was told a number of things. The naysayers were surprised...

I suffered a spinal injury leaving me an incomplete paraplegic which means I had one paralysed leg. I had to wear an orthidic which kept my foot at a right angle so could only wear sneakers or lace-up shoes. If I wore a dress the orthidic strapped to my leg would snag it so I stuck to pants. My surgeon referred me to a neurosurgeon who told me that not only would I never get feeling or use back in my leg but I would also get much worse as I aged and one day I wouldn't be able to walk at all. I was so upset as I left his office and as I watched a taxi coming close I momentarily thought about jumping in front of it, but at the last minute I felt it probably wouldn't kill me but give some other injury. I decided to go back to my GP and discuss the matter with him. He said he felt I would improve over time but my leg would never be normal again in either full feeling or use. I saw a physio who gave me exercises to do telling me nerves can grow back if stimulated and my surgeon told me the best vitamins to make nerves grow. I went to the local chemist to buy the vitamins and the young girl there told me I needed acupuncture but only from someone who was taught in China. I managed to find a real GP who learnt acupuncture in China and he agreed to see if there was anything he could do for me. I went to physio once a week and had acupuncture once a week all the while taking the vitamins recommended. It didn't happen overnight but it did improve so that I was able put the orthidic away underneath the stairs. The injury was 1997 and I now have 80% use of my leg and 70% feeling. I can wear flat shoes or sandals but not thongs or high heels, which I don't miss, and I can walk some distance if I wear sneakers. I went back to the hospital to show them my recovery, they rarely get to see how people cope once they leave hospital. There are things I can't do and I have to be careful because I can't tell if I am standing on uneven ground or flooring which can be dangerous, but, the neurosurgeon was wrong, I did get better and I can walk unaided.

A lot of the surveys seem to target young people or people raising children, and I am worried that I will not be eligible for them as I age. It is my birthday tomorrow, and it is harder to get money for anything as you get older. What do you do to earn money as you age?

I'm lucky that I am a multi millionaire, manage over a thousand staff, make all decisions re labour, training and hiring. My companies turnover is in excess of a Billion dollars annually. I do all the shopping and I am the sole shopping decision maker. I also like giving input re my use of mobiles and broadband both for business and home. Also I regulary watch and go to many films, and also watch TV and use and go to my Bank every week. Yes I do have All insurance products also. Since Covid-19, I developed a passion for cooking. I found it is a smart way to save money. On top of that, enjoying delicious meals, exploration of flavours of nourishing oneself and others making it a genuine and rewarding passion for many of us. Is cooking your passion?
Michelle S 553303
I hardly ever eat out whether at takeaways or restaurants, and so I have to cook at home. I buy whatever vegetables are on clearance and I make meals with these and pulses as they're cheap. What I really enjoy is getting the "Red Book" out which I transcribed old family recipes from, which had paper that was falling apart, when I was 10 years old. As it's been almost 50 years since I wrote those recipes down and since the writing is fading away, it is almost time to rewrite the family recipes again and hopefully my children and grandchildren will decide to try them out when I'm gone. There are even recipes which refer to "remove plate from fire" which pre date even my own grandmother. The recipes are easy to make, relatively cheap and taste delicious. I like knowing exactly what is in my food and cooking at home from scratch provides me with something to look forward to eating! Thanks for reading and Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers out there!

Only one person can bring world peace to this earth. His name is Jesus Christ. He is the son of Jehovah God. Soon God will hand over the kingdom rule to his son, who will then cleanse the earth of all wickedness, and peace will reign forever! Please read Matthew 6:10; Matthew 24:14 and Psalm chapter 37 in your Bible! ;-D

Most of the planet seems to be saying "its OK... happy Christmas" and then slamming the door again on boxing day....in Australia we are opening up the door to a massive flood of covid...with a fair bit of enthusiasm...New Years Eve massive super spreader parties and celebrations could be the turning point when every part of Australia looks like the developing mess in NSW...are we all ready for this?...is it too late to exercise a bit of common sense?....
Timtam
Yep common sense has gone out the window with a govt who is more concerned about the next election than the health of the Australian people. The new rule changes are absolute bullshit and have no basis in science, purely politics to hide the real number of covid cases. Rapid tests are an important tool, but the lack of a mechanism to report the +ve cases detected by rapid tests smacks of the desire to cover up the true number of cases.
The 4 hour exposure rule and household only as close contacts is absolute, unscientific, political rubbish.

I agree with Liane and so does our local TV news troubleshooter reporter. In this part of upstate PA near Hershey, several widows and widowers have been scammed out of their life savings by folks who wanted to 'date' them but needed money very badly. Now we are being warned if we use online dating services (I never did. I never even dated- ever and I am 76 now and none the worse for it. I have a few close friends and many online friends and I have Plummy, my 9 years young pet kitty cat so I am really NOT all alone even if I am a shut-in and nobody ever bothers to visit me here. So do be careful with your money and never ever buy prepaid store cards and use them to send out funds because they are not traceable. Happy Eastertide.

I like to see what I buy, but packaging often hides the contents, either the quality or the quantity. I often get potatoes that are already sprouting I purchased 2 boxes of breakfast cereal today, and I was surprised at the amount of cereal compared to the size of the boxes which showed 435gr. I weighed the contents and one box contained 365gr of cereal and the other 411gr. Feeling cheated.

My issues (in NZ) are: Why is pork from Poland? And beef from Australia? Am I paying for the air in chippie packets because there seems to be more of that than chippies? When I used to dunk my gingernuts (get your smutty minds out of the gutter) they were wholesome dunks in my cups of tea. Now it's a petite holding of the biscuit. And expect prices to rise...again. Trucks will pay more for fuel to supply goods thanks to a certain person..... and once again the consumer pays.

Lessons often learned too late include that time passes rapidly, making it crucial to prioritize health, relationships, and experiences over material pursuits. Key realizations involve overcoming the fear of failure, acknowledging that you cannot please everyone, and understanding that self-care is essential for long-term happiness. How is it with you? What did you learn too late in life?

I gave no permission for a Car Insurance renewal policy, but to my horror, the very popular Insurance company renewed it anyway using an expired credit card they had on file. They simply changed the expiry date on the credit card. Of course, I cancelled it right away. My question is, should I report this company to the Government watchdog?
Pearlz
We have found a few insurance companies renew policy's without instructions to do so. My concern is that they used an expired credit card and I have no idea how they managed that because not only would the expiry date have changed but another number of 3 digits would have changed also so your bank should have declined it. If it were me my first call would be to my bank to ask why they had approved the transaction, my second call would be to the Ombudsman because it isn't on. All the best.

With ridiculously high rental prices, mortgage rates going through the roof & profiteering supermarkets constantly raising grocery prices & crazy energy prices - many are struggling to make ends meet. What are your best money saving strategies? Share the love !

One, buy generic (not brand name) - when it comes too food. Generic is as tasty as brand names! Two, stay away from microwaveable (convenience) foods (too expensive) and you pay for convenience in a grocery store. Last, set up a monthly grocery budget and (tried) to stay within your monthly grocery budget!

Fireworks petition proponents argue for banning the sale of fireworks due to animal distress, environmental pollution, and safety hazards, while opponents highlight the cultural tradition, enjoyment, and economic benefits of fireworks. Would you sign the fireworks ban petition?

In Melbourne Australia, it is illegal to buy or set off personal fireworks. You can go and watch the big fireworks events. I personally find them boring.
I have seen the drone lights displays and find them more appealing and no noise.

What would you do? Ask for help? Do something different? Or leave things as is? Most leave things as is, thinking something negative, and if they try to change the situation it may just stay the same or get a whole lot worse. Not just you, but others as well will be affected and is very difficult to change, especially on your own. But one thing is certain, and that is regardless, to find someone you can talk to about anything without fear and that will listen.

With the recent raise in government benefits, I am wondering whether or not it's actually made a difference to those receiving them. I mean, $1.77 a day hardly seems much when a bottle of milk is nearly $7.00 at some places. What are your thoughts on the recent rise in government benefits and, if you receive them, how are you coping
Spaceant1
I have been self employed for over 30 years. I worked between 100 and 120 hours per week, until my heart attack at 40 years old. I reduced my work to between 60 and 80 hours per week. I had huge insurance costs and half my money was taken by the government as tax not including the gst. I dont smoke, dont gamble and rarely ever drink. I never waste money on junk food or things I dont need. I pay full price for dental and medical treatments, which i cant afford at the best of times. I am now 59, semi retired with destroyed shoulders, and currently unable to work until my shoulders heal. I have a small superannuation account that i cant access as yet, and not elligible for the age pension because i own my home. When i sit on my porch enjoying a coffee and look down the hill at the goverment housing development, I see 3 late model BMW's, 2 late model Mercedes, a HSV Commodore and plenty of SUV's etc parked in the driveways. These individuals are home most days when not at the club playing the pokies, drinking and smoking in their sun chairs. I look at my 16 year old work van that is also my transport, no A/C and rust spots surviving on about $150 to $300 per week taken from my personal savings and wonder if all my hard work was actually worth it. Regardless of that, I have self respect and have a personal satisfaction of my achievements.
A raise in benefits makes no difference in my world. My personal oppinion is that benefits should be only for those who absolutely require it which should include other benefits based on individual needs. If you are able to work, then you should. Be an assett and not a financial drain.

In addition, loneliness has been found to raise levels of stress, impede sleep and, in turn, harm the body. Loneliness can also augment depression or anxiety. What do you reckon? What are the effects of having no friends?
Nerd Face
Depends on the circumstances. I’m a migrant from another country without friends but freedom to choose what I would do and I was contented with that. I found solitude can be a source of healing and rewarding. Friends can cause more stress for you as you have to keep up with them and time and be with them can be all consuming. There are other things you can enjoy on your own that you are not dependent on another for happiness.

Do you think the school system has let our children down? There are so many technological things for them to learn that they have had to cut other things out. My neighbor boy who was born addicted to drugs, tells me that school for him is a waste of time, and he isn't learning anything! There are far too many children in his situation, and they don't get the special attention they need in order to learn. Why are there so many children with Autism, ADHD, etc.? ...
Pearlz
Parents no longer give children rules or boundaries which accounts for some problems. I also notice babies no longer get definite sleep patterns. In my day when it was time for baby to sleep we left them to sleep but now mothers are out and about with crying babies and children annoying everyone else. Children are sleep deprived and undisciplined which isn't a good combination, then they go to school where the teachers spend hours trying to corral the noisy and disruptive children in order to begin a lesson on how white people invaded Australia, the earth will burn up in climate change and global warming and finishing with are you a boy or a girl, don't worry because it no longer matters.

I am amazed that we constantly hear how tough people are doing it, the cost of living, unable to afford rent or mortgage, cost of petrol and power, kids going without shoes and yet whenever I am out in the evening or at the weekend every restaurant, cafe or upmarket eatery I pass is full, especially with younger people around 20 50 years. How can they afford to be dining out if times are so "tough?"
Michelle S 553303
I can give you a hint: CREDIT! Yes, these mostly young people who would, back in the day, have already been parents to a couple of kids and might be on their first or second marriages, are being propagandised to play it up and enjoy life WITHOUT responsibilities. Now everyone gets to choose their own path but this is by design. They are paid far more than I ever earned even though I have an undergraduate degree but instead of pesky kids to feed and educate they get to spend like the party will go on forever. Only they are deceived. Most will never be able to afford to buy a home of their own and many live with mates not family, except many still do well into their 20's or even longer. So their rate off disposable income is higher. Their nice cars though are often bought on credit which sounds brilliant to them until they get sick or lose their job that is! Then we have other available credit including the plastic cards but even more commonly nowadays are the Afterpay and Zip BNPL platforms and they can create massive problems which only this generation has seen. The whole "pay in 4" sounds great at first but if you haven't had a good fiscal education, and many have not, then the fact that you can buy a card, with Zip there's no upfront payment to do so although Afterpay requires 25% down, which you can use to dine out, travel, and buy basically whatever takes your fancy even though you don't have the money! I was amazed to find that you can buy groceries with these platforms, and if you are hungry then Im sure its invaluable, but the rest is just trouble! I've watched many financial channels where young people are interviewed and some of them are 50K in debt and they have zero assets. They've had to go bankrupt before they're 30! I understand that those who did the right thing and saved up money, scrimping for years to pay back their mortgage and only driving second hand cars until they own their home outright, like my own parents, certainly deserve to enjoy the fruits of their labour, but today is different and there WILL be a societal reckoning due to this and that won't be good for any of us! Thanks for reading.

When money goes to medical research, which disease or diseases should have priority? Should it be allocated mostly to cancer or heart disease or diabetes or mental health issues? Who should determine the priority, and how should the money be divided? Along those lines, should the money go to administration to pay for staff or to medical supplies or to universities for research courses?
NotFriedLikeMost
It's a perpetual scam.
They research "cures" to ENSURE the money keeps rolling in.
But, if they just looked at the CAUSES of issues...they wouldn't GET money for research because they would know HOW to heal...and, to be fair, it is VERY easy to heal anything...but, they don't know this, and, if they do, they purposely maintain their status quo so they KEEP YOU SOMEWHAT SICK so they can MANAGE your issues, PROFITING OFF YOU THE WHOLE TIME...AND, practicing the SLOW KILL as they push allopathy onto you via petroleum based pills...that NEVER fix anything, they just "mask" the issue, and it just festers internally.
These things are set up to TRANSFER WEALTH from US...to THEM. End of story.

Why is it that since the pandemic, drivers are speeding, going through red lights, hitting pedestrians and not stopping? It is just awful out there!! Where is their sense of responsibility? Are more and more people using alcohol and Marijuana and drugs? A lady with no license just hit 3 people...a mom and her twins as they crossed the street in the pedestrian walkway. One twin died and mom is critical, and driver took off! What is wrong with people that they have...
1
People are selfish. Everyone is an hurry to nowhere. No one wants more police on the streets. However, it may be necessary for a larger police traffic presence to alter driver behaviour. As stated elsewhere, harsher and stricter penalties might also be required. it's not just the speed. There is a general lack of awareness and understanding of the rules of the road. Better and more rigorous driver education standards combined with mandatory re-examination / relicensing for more serious offences might be helpful in altering behaviours as well.

Over the past few weeks, I've noticed more garbage thrown along hiking trails. This includes old vehicle parts, old washing machines, hoses, plastic containers, and the list goes on and on. I live up North in Canada, and I used to enjoy hiking as many trails as possible. I'm now disgusted by the mess people are making. Some of the people have bush parties, they cook all types of foods etc. When the parties are over, they leave all the trash in the woods. Do they not take...

People are just Lazy. Its not just Litter the dump when and where they want to there are other things people do which also gets up our noses.
Gyms. The great Big, Muscle-bound men and Women use equipment, particulatly Heavy Weights, and then simply leave them where they have been using them so that Gym Staff have to go around putting all that gear back on the racks, we even have one of them who uses the toilet, never flushes we simply assume that Mum/Mom, Dad or some servant at home wipes their bums and flushes for them
The other annoyance is in Supermarkets. People go to the Service Delicatessen get a heap of Smallgoods and then later decide they don't want any of it. So what do they do? Take it back to the Delli? Of course not! They just dump it anywhere and never in any fridge so that when hours or even days later it is found it has to be thrown out. This costs the Supermarket owners and, just like Shoplifting, means that prices are increased to cover those losses.
Is it really so difficult to keep your rubbish until you get home? Do consider the end of a product life cycle before making a purchase? A lot of products claim to be better for the environment but when they are sent to landfill they are terrible for the environment, such as those products that take a long time to biodegrade for example.

This is unfortunately the problem the world will be facing with all of this so-called 'green' technology such as wind turbines, solar panels and lithium batteries when they reach the end of their usefulness. How is all of this going to be recycled? If it ends up in landfill, what sort of chemicals are going to leach into the soil and river systems?

The best way to deal with someone who constantly asks you personal questions is to ask them why they want to know. It really is that simple, folks. Depending on what answer they give, it's at that point you have the option to proceed or not. You don't have to answer anything that you don't want to. What is your advice? How do you handle people who constantly ask personal questions you're not comfortable answering?

Women have come a long way from being thought of as 2nd class citizens. I am all for all the gains we have made. Women are leaders in all aspects of life, Be it politics, business or generally in the work force. But I can't help but feel we have also lost so much. Such as self-respect and respect from our male counterparts. We can swear as good as any man! Not so sure if this is a good thing! Men never used to swear in front of woman, but now it seems...
Michelle S 553303
I truly believe that women in general have less rights now than they did when I was growing up in the 1960's. My mother was able to stay home and raise my brother and I and not forced to leave her home AND her children to afford the mortgage money for the house my father and her purchased together. They had 2 solid years working together at a factory before my mother fell pregnant with me and retired from the paid workforce and she was able to rest during her pregnancy and prepare for my arrival enjoying that time. Even on one income back then we had meat every night for dinner because back then you could afford it, not now! My mother taught me SO many valuable lessons of how to cook well but cheaply, how to sew and how to run a home. I, however, did not think that these lessons were valuable until I got older and unfortunately I bought into the feminist hype of the working woman being able to "do it all"! Absolute BS BTW as all I did was get on a treadmill for 25 years without stopping trying to be everything that my changing society told me was my right but ultimately missing out on some of the most important things in my 5 children's lives. I sent them along to Daycare because I was told it was as good as me caring for them and they'd be well socialised, but they cried when I left them and I abandoned them to a place of noise and no love. They will say to me today "Mum, do you remember when" or "do you remember so and so" and I have no recollection of those events or people because my headspace and I were somewhere else. I wish that I had realised the feminist lies back then and stayed at home raising my children myself and teaching them things of value. You can NEVER reclaim those moments you lost and I regret it deeply. I believe that we are less "women" now than we were before we had the right to choose whether or not to bring to term the children we carried in our wombs and we started trying so dang hard to be as good as men when we already were but in a different way! We got robbed of a lot of simple pleasures of watching our children play or having kids come home with our kids and ask to play in the backyard because there was always someone home back then. These days women, mothers especially, have to coordinate schedules and are often absent from the home and need to organise formal play dates with the other equally busy and exhausted parents of their child's friends. If THIS is what was meant by "progress" for women then we collectively were sold a lemon! Thanks for reading.

Never judge a man (or woman) until you realize the (or lack of) choices that man (or woman) had available at that life-changing moment. Or are you the type that goes with the current and that ship (moment) has sailed (and you are always RIGHT)?

Do you think it is right for small communities to put off fireworks by neighbours with no license or permission? What are the dangers of fire and also of injury doing this?

I have never heard of putting off fireworks. If you are going to put them off you don't need a license. If you let them off you might just BLOW your hand off.

Local bylaws say no bikes or skateboards...my own street says 5ks and hour all of that is ignored. Down in the park there is one small sign says "dogs on leads"....also ignored...the same with odd parking rules...nobody wants it...nobody obeys it...nobody enforces it...so what is the point?...someone is getting paid to do this...what is going on?
allin7/4
And the sign said
"Long-haired freaky people
Need not apply"
So I tucked my hair up under my hat
And I went in to ask him why
He said, "You look like a fine upstandin' young man
I think you'll do"
So I took off my hat and said, "Imagine that
Huh, me workin' for you"

I am very much in favour of this. Why? The reason is herd immunity will not be achieved if this does not happen. Herd immunity gives the general population a degree of immunity against this dreadful, unpredictable virus.Herd immunity also protects individuals who through no fault of their own cannot be vaccinated. I fully understand that some people cannot be vaccinated on medical grounds.

There is a plethora of arguments for and against the above. Towards the end of his life Charles Darwin became skeptical of his theory of evolution. Science is knowledge gained from observable facts. Theory is how we try to link facts to make a story. Given that new facts (evidence) can dramatically change the story should we still see evolution and creation as either/or argument.

Is it a common theme that many of us have great ideas, but we don't have the time or money to get working on them? Do you write your ideas down and save them for another day? Do you dismiss them at the time because you already have enough things to do or because of start up costs, or do you drop what you're doing and action them straight away? What do you do when a great idea pops in your head?
Mrs Invictus
Great read Christina C 😁 I for one am a doer, in saying that many ideas have been just that lol Great ideas are a part of being human and therefore evolution. Regardless of whats going on, anyone with a great idea I encourage to make it happen, don't let any barriers stop you because all great things start from some thing/one small.

It seems like everything from food to cars to electronics to homes have skyrocketed in price since 2020. What's the underlying cause here? Why or how are people still able to buy these things for their inflated prices?
Beth
Two words: corporate greed. Granted covid, wars, inflation etc have some effect, it's not anywhere as pronounced as new set prices would have you believe. Corporations have milked these things to hike prices and get away with it and are continuing to do so.

The space program costs billions and billions of dollars. There has been talk about new moon missions, missions to Mars, missions to other planets or their moons in our solar system, and missions out of our solar system. For which mission or missions should all of that money be spent? Should we not spend so much on space missions and instead focus on fixing Earth and its problems?
BLM
I don't believe 'we' (governments cooperating together on this planet - solving our environmental issues and natural resources issues, etc.) have enough money to solve earth's many issues - all created by mankind. Might as well have a Plan B - exit this planet (Earth) and start our destructive human behavior pattern on another uninhabited planet ('still') it is a dirty, rotten shame we are condemned to repeat our history on another uninhabited planet in the universe (LOL))!

Common disadvantages of homeschooling include a lack of real-life socialisation, limited access to resources and facilities, the demanding load on parents, and potential legal challenges. What are your thoughts on homeschooling?
Joanne D 124129
I come school my child. I do not believe that children need to attend a main stream school. Parents can access so many different resources and facilities. Homeschooling allows kids to learn without disruption, without all the waiting. Kids queue to enter a school classroom they wait while students organise themselves, they wait while instructions and resources are distributed. Waiting to ask questions plus all the rest. Homeschool kids have access to as much socialising as mainstream school students if not more. This depends on the parents and locations. We do group sporting, Homeschool group activities, play sessions, group library activities activities. The difference i find with my kid is that they are socialising with kids of a wide variety of ages, stages, and walks of life.
I have found Homeschool kids to be more friendly, they actually think more, are kind and great well rounded kids. I've not come across bullying and harassment behaviour. We live how we attend a monthly science activity. The kids get together and start group games. No parental instruction and they support younger kids or kids that may have disabilities and adjust things to include kids. These kids do this without any adult direction. Talking to the kids they take each kid individually likes/dislikes and all abilities. There has to my knowledge no restricting or isolation of any kids. They have been happy, confident, caring and intelligent kids. The kids can adjust attitudes and behaviours if they are playing games with toddlers, thru to high school kids and even adjusting games to include kids in wheelchairs or crutches, blind or other disabilities. They don't make a fuss of adjustments. An example was 12 boys (aged between 8 and 15 ) playing with a ball kicking it from one side to another. Then allowing some toddlers to have a kick of the ball and encouraging the little ones to be part of the game.

A family name is usually carried by a man, which has been for such a long time when this world was created. To me, a man is a man that brings his name forward with pride to his wife/partner & children & makes decisions & is the main bread winner of your home. Now these days, life & family meanings & structures are changing a lot. Many men now are adopting their wife/partner's name instead of keeping his name. How do you feel when this has been done? "taking a man's name" is antiquated and sexist. It is easier (legally) and cheaper to keep your own name (especially these days when people are in the habit of remarrying).
When I was married, I always earned MORE than my husband so I find it offensive when people say "the man is the breadwinner" and I am talking decades ago (when we first married) right up until recent history when we divorced.

I'm a good person who likes to help others. However, it seems to me that humans have changed in the past 5 years as I've been used, and then I'm kicked to the curb once they've gotten what they wanted from me. In today’s world, good people are often misunderstood. Kindness is mistaken for weakness. Empathy is seen as naïve. And those who help without asking for anything back are sometimes taken for granted, used, or dismissed as “too sensitive.”
But the truth is: good people are the quiet strength holding everything together. They show up when no one else does. They forgive when it's hardest. They keep choosing love in a world that sometimes celebrates cruelty and selfish gain.
Being good today isn’t always rewarded, and it can feel lonely. But that doesn’t make it any less powerful. In fact, it makes it more rare — and more necessary.
Because in the end, it’s the good people who change lives, even if the world doesn't always notice.

My partner of 24 years passed suddenly on the 30th January. We had him lying in state at home and a fantail flittered outside the window behind him. Two weeks later a fantail flew into the lounge and sat on the ceiling pendant and continued to follow me throughout the house as I opened all the doors and windows to let it out. It wasn't frantic or chirping, I sat down back down in the lounge, said thank you and it flew in front of my face and then left. Being Maori it is meant to bring news of an upcoming death but my mum who's 75 said it was my partner visiting and regard it as a blessing. So I looked it up and the first article I clicked on was written by a person called Stewart (his name), later that day our son got the mail and there was an envelope addressed to him with a $200 grocery voucher and no return address. Probably a logical explanation but I like the idea that it's him and not conincidental.

Is dedicating your 20s to world travel wise... hm... It will help you decided what you want in life. Fewer physical attachments equal more freedom and more travel. You'll get street smart. It will make you a more interesting person. You'll grow culturally. You'll learn to develop your independence and how to be responsible. You'll learn how to manage your money early in life. You won't resent it later in life (not travelling). Last but not least - because you 'really' deserve it (to travel earlier in LIFE).

One of the key reasons why the world feels chaotic is technological advancements. Technology has revolutionized nearly every aspect of our lives, from communication to transportation to healthcare. Some scientists believe that Climate Change is bogus. It's not real according to their analysis. Some of these Climate change sceptics have done analytical studies and --couldn't find real evidence of it. The earth is always changing, and nothing remains the same for too long. But if these other Scientists are right and this has all been a lie, then what would be the reason for this? Why would so many want to believe it and insist it is happening?
Pearlz
Stalin once said if you tell a lie make it a big lie because people will believe a big lie. Darwin came up with the theory of evolution, and it was only a theory as there has never been any proof. With the advances in DNA this theory has been blown out of the water and yet it is taught in schools as a fact. What did Darwin gain from what is a lie? Fame! Climate change is another lie that started as Global Warming but when it became evident that the world was not warming it was changed to climate change. The CSIRO know it isn't a fact but if they announce that the money tap will be turned off. Malcolm Turnbull pushes climate change, and why wouldn't he as he and his son are making a lot of money from green technologies. As with anything, follow the money. Just look at the money being made by people making and installing solar panels, electric cars and batteries. And all this rubbish needs replacing every 10 or 20 years. It is one huge con and many people have been sucked in either because they didn't really think about it or are too afraid to disagree. How on earth can mankind change the weather? There is the sun and moon with all their effects, undersea volcanoes spewing hot water that heats our oceans altering the currents which effects the rain we get. Climate change has been blamed for the recent floods which is totally incorrect, they were caused by El Nino which has been known by the South Americans for thousands of years. People should ask questions and not simply accept the rubbish pushed as FACT.

Millions of precious people have died and maybe they don't belong to the unvaccinated but they did belong to others who loved and mourn their passing. Too many millions of others now suffer life long health issues because they caught the disease. Most of those I know claim "God protects me" .Well who protected the thousands of Christians and other believers who died? Others claim their body is their property and yet stick strange chemicals and other suspicious mixtures into their arms and up their noses and eat so called 'natural foods which are so chemically modified in order to make them edible. I am vaccinated but even catching the milder version now circulating will affect me because I already have severe respiratory problems and had lung cancer surgery. I know the unvaccinated will give all their silly, selfish reasons and I won't bother reading them because my number one issue is to live to see 2023!

It seems of late that all we hear is how we should eat plant foods and not meat or dairy products etc. Almond milk is not as nutritious as cows milk and should not be given the children? It is also produced with pesticides and heaps of water to grow them. I was watching a cooking show last week and the vegan chef said h I also feel that a acre of plant food will give the grower more money they a cow or sheep would over a year. However, if the environmentalists...
Bugalugs
What I don't like, in fact I loathe, about Vegans and Vegetarians is thet they adopt the attitude that they are so much better than everyone else. yet these are the same people who want all their "Flesh" replacement meals to taste just like the Beef, Chickem Lamb, Turkey, Pork, Salmon, Barramundi, Herrings etc. they used to eat before they became so much better, more Environmentally Conscious and overall Much Superior Citizens than the rest of us.
The next time you are in the Supermarket have a good, close look at the Ingredients Label on all this Vegetarian, Vegan food. You will be surprised, very possibly, and justifiably, shocked at the amount of Laboratory-produced "Nature Identical" Flavours, Colours, the amount of Sodium, NaCl, and other Artificial Chemicals which are used to make those Meat Free Sausages, Mince, Steaks etc. taste just like the real thing!
It is a bit like those people who say they have stopped using sugar, the Cane or Beet variety and have switched to No Calorie, No Fat Artificlal Sweeteners all sold under trade names but which are, in truth, produced in laborarories and some of the ingredients have been shown, no, Proven to be Carcinogenic!
You don't have to adopt any of these extremist fads such as Veganism, if you want to reduce the amount of Meats you eat, just do so and increase your Vegetables including Potatoes!
For the extremists they all seem to think they are better than everyone else, they are so arrogant, so smug, they really have no idea what problems they are setting up fopr themselves after eating all that Artificial rubbish. They won't eat Cheese, drink Milk, eat Eggs and try to imply that this is contributing to cutting down on Animal Cruelty. Garbage, utter garbage because the Cows will still be producing milk, chickens still laying infertile eggs and they do it al Naturally.

Honestly, as road users, we all pay our share of taxes. It is my opinion that anyone using a two-wheel bicycle should pay a share of road taxes and wear a numbered identification bib of some sort, bet that gets a few hot under the collar.
APB
and pedestrians too...we could tax animals even...dogs using the footpaths...what about wheelchairs and motorised buggies?...kids triikes too...think of all the revenue!!!...we could make lots of money and crush everyone under our will....fantastic...we could tattoo numbers on people's heads....and if they didn't pay their taxes we could gather them all up and keep them in camps.....
God I love discussion pages!

Lately, if I am not director or CEO of a company, or I don't have own company, I am scanned out of surveys. I mean, be realistic - would really the owner of a company have time for online surveys? Or someone with income greater than 150k a year would spend time to do online surveys about groceries stores? I don't think so. That requirements of being even able to do some survey is almost impossible lately. What are your experiences?
Richard M 407933
Like a lot of others, I get screened out of countless surveys - certainly there are far more outs than acceptances. There is absolutely no doubt that the main reason I get the 'cold shoulder' is my age. I am 77.
Being rejected used to annoy me but I have come to accept that the so called marketing experts aren't interested in considered opinions from us older folk and believe that the world functions around the upwardly mobile with more money than sense. That's okay, they pay their money and get what they want but I wish they wouldn't waste everyone's time in this manner.

How much are we eating, and we don't know it. Starting to notice warnings on a few foods, what do you guys know about it?
WonkyandProud
I think we have no idea what we are eating. How could we know? We aren't there where our food is grown or even worse where it's produced, handled and packaged. Unless you grow your own food and raise your own livestock, you don't know what you're eating. Even then, what part does the environment and the feed for the livestock impact the final product? Almost everything from the air we breathe to the items we interact with to the food we eat affects us. I'm more concerned with the electronics and all the things we can't see. I have proof that the electricity in our homes can kill us, even our pets and trees. Now there is so much more than just the electricity we use. All the devices we use affect us, and I feel we are forced to use them out of necessity. I hate mobile phones, but almost every company wants you to download an app which I think is for tracking purposes, but they make it appear to be for out benefit. When do companies EVER do anything just to save us money? That doesn't even make sense. I feel like we are lambs being sent to the slaughter and everyone just follows along. I try not to, but sometimes we HAVE to in order to do what we have to do. They assume everyone has a cell phone and internet. We should be able to make that choice and not be forced into using things that we don't even understand how they work! Maybe I'm just too old for this. Does anyone agree or am I paranoid? I've been around long enough to know not to trust everything. You can't even believe what you hear and see now with the AI which is another subject I'd like to avoid!

Has anyone heard of the 'Bulla Rescue' in Australia which involves horses? I watched a documentary about rescuing Race horses that were left to starve to death by a trainer. There were many reports sent to the RSPCA, but it was not investigated. They found over 20 horses dead or dying from starvation. 23 horses were rescued, but 3 had to be put down. If you report something serious, shouldn't it be investigated. In the end the police were also involved.
Mooi
So much goes on in the racing industry. It is all about money and greed. It happens with horse racing and greyhound racing, rodeos and any form of animal exploitation. It is always about the money they can make out of an animal and when it is spent and considered no longer profitable, it is discarded. These animals are sentient beings, not commodities.

Do you think all companies should offer Paternity Leave as well as Maternity Leave?
Bugalugs
No. People Choose to have children so they should plan accordingly. The cost to business and, where the employer is a Government, the Taxpayers is enormous. This is justb another form of Welfare just as the endless demand by people that the Taxpayers should pay for all their children's Child Care - Early Pre-School Care, After School Care, Holiday Care - it is just Welfare. Why should the Taxpayers, the vast majority of whom are on incomes of less than $100,000.00, pay the cost of Child Care for people who have incomes of $180,000 all the way up to $500,000 and more?
If people want to have children that's fine BUT they must plan and if the Father wants time off during the very early days then let him take his Annual or Long-Service Leave, he would still get paid but it would be money he is already entitled to and his employer would have already budgeted for that expense.

How is everyone coping with the escalating cost of petrol/diesel in your country now due to the blockage of fuel tankers from the Strait of Hormuz. I live in New Zealand and 91 has gone up to $3.69 per litre. It was well under $3 per litre in February this year. Also it is scary to think that we might run out of diesel in 3 weeks time.
Woodster
I filled up on the day the Iran war broke out and don't drive much but the price of 91 in South Australia is around $2.40 I think and the next fill up will be with clenched teeth! You fuel in NZ is very expensive KittyK, in February ours was around $1.59.

Does anyone feel like whenever it's going good something bad is always around the corner to ruin the good? So like why even live life if you can never be happy. Or when something good happens it never stays good. Why even keep trying?
Angie
I love and agree wholeheartedly with Zena’s comment!
Have you thought about having CBT or talking with a councillor? I feel sad that your thinking is pessimistic and you’re putting your negativity out into the universe. Negativity attracts negativity. If you change your mindset and try to be optimistic and positive and believe that good things will happen then you will absolutely attract good things into your life. Be grateful everyday. Do volunteer work and you will receive the rewards of a happy content life. Good luck and remember happy thoughts, positive vibes and speak only with optimism and good intentions 🌻

What does grateful living mean to you? Occasional thank-yous, or a constant state of gratefulness for everything, good or bad? I admit it is not easy to be grateful for a bad day, but any given day means so much - one more day lived in your life. I say thank you for every single day to God, or to the universe, or to my body. I have pretty painful legs, but these legs have walked and still walk on this earth an immeasurable number of steps, so I say thank you to them. No legs?...
The ghost
I’m grateful for everything, except those self centred bastards that won’t give me what I want.

The housing problem is terrible...there aren't enough houses....what can we do?...blame earlier Governments?...deport people...ban immigration and not allow nasty foreigners to buy any?....we could build big complexes so we have cheap housing where people work?....no..everyone wants a house with a garden...we could just build loads of houses everywhere...and connect it all to hi-speed trains...no hi-speed trains cost too much...and everyone who has already bought a house...
IdentifyAs
We had no problem until the Liberal Lite woke asses came in and then Labor. We need to stop immigration. Send back those who are out to hurt the rest of us and dont assimilate. Climate change is just some crap from the WEF, WHO and all those acrinyms. We need to band together as aussies Im voting One Nation, if you dont agree with me just shut up.....

By now I have travelled more than 15 countries, have met people from a lot of different countries. I think that the people in Indonesia are the sweetest. What would you say? Which country in the world has the nicest people to tourists?
Andrew C 287196
No idea. Never been a tourist. People are people, and countries are countries - there are good, bad, and stupid people in every country.

I have heard it said quite a bit lately that it is much harder to make friends as an adult, than as children or young people. School and extracurriculars are options for children and Uni/ Tafe or work, parties and hobby related activities are often places young people make friends as well. As we get older sometimes the opportunities to make new friends are more limited. Has this been your experience? Do you make new friends? If so where did you meet them? Was it...
BLM
As I get older (I am eighty years old) - it became EASIER for me to make friends (as I became less judgmental in my social (personal)) life!

I am not much of a storyteller, but in this case I will make an exception. A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of making a new acquaintance (male, obviously) over a social network group at a fairly prestigious venue. We exchanged a phone number, but that was it. A few weeks later, for some reason, I connected with him over the phone. Long story cut short, we met up for lunch on a weekend, which was very pleasant. After that, we parted ways. I learned that on that...

I think men these days are over it,we have women that look like rhinos with 5 kids to different dads saying men need to be a list of things that are in fantasy land.We also have men that are accused of being stalkers for even saying hello to a lady they see.In essence men are just over the whole dating scene.its very sad actually

Now that I've got another year to upgrade, I'm trying to decide what's best. I'm fine with Windows 10, but then I hear how much better Windows 11 supposedly is. I also hear the downside, like insufficient disk space to upgrade, programs not running once you make the change, and all kinds of other stuff. What I'd like to know, is how many of you have upgraded and what you think of Windows 11? Was it worth it?
Uncle Peep (Robert F)
My laptop doesn't meet the requirements for the upgrade so I'm gonna just keep on using it as long as possible. If it starts having issues I'll buy a new one with the newest version of Windows.

There is nothing wrong with it, other than it probably won t give you the status you were assuming would come with the car. It s a terrible reason to buy a car and sooner or later, you realize that the people that you think care, don t. In fact, it has no influence in anything. What would you say? Is there anything wrong with buying a car for status symbol?
BLM
Is there anything wrong with buying a car for status symbol? NO (your money - you do 'whatever' you please with your money)!

What are your thoughts on Education? Is the system too rigid and doesn't cater to individual students needs, or do you feel it's too loose and has no real meaning anymore? It may be what you remember during your years at school, or the experience you have/had sending your children or other children in your care to school.
Pearlz
The education system is nothing more than a left leaning brain washing scheme. The teachers have no authority over the pupils who do pretty much what they like. There is no discipline or routine and nothing worthwhile is being taught. One of my children had a subject called pastoral care. I thought it was spelt "pasture" and wondered why they were learning about animal husbandry. I never did find out exactly what he learnt but his children have been taught about the stolen generation, how we stole their land, the world will burn up via climate change and you can be gender neutral or gender fluid and that there are more than 2 sexes. When I told my 10 year old grandson he might like Mork & Mindy he was quite concerned telling me many old TV shows aren't appropriate today. Fancy loading that on the shoulders of a 10 year old. In my opinion it's nothing more than child abuse. They are children and should be able to enjoy a childhood free of concern and unnecessary worry.

We went to the big hardware store yesterday (Bunnings) and they have started to put out Christmas decorations. Is it me, or is it getting earlier each year?
LA
At this rate, by 2030 they’ll be putting up Christmas decorations right after Easter. I’m half-expecting to see Santa riding the Easter Bunny down aisle 3.

I am a single mum of 3 children, I have tried too hard to keep up to date with rentals I have been in, absolutely skyrocket prices. I have luckily been selected by government housing which gives me oppoyto provide a stable roof over our heads, help with 25% of rent and bills. Grateful for this opportunity and I wish that all other people in my situation could be lucky as myself. Don't get me wrong it's hard to get a rental being single and income is government income only also...
Allan 1713395
why are you single with 3 children, didn't your parents teach you how to keep your legs closed. I would have thought you'd have applied for after just one child.

In my humble opinion, Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, should be congratulated for his efforts to ban social media for 16-year-olds. Will it work, though? Young people (year 10 students) I have spoken to recently seem to think not. There are too many sad stories. Something has to be done.
Squeekums
We will be ignoring it, we will help our kid get around it
Social media hasnt been bad for her
My kid was bullied out of school and NONE was online
They knew that left a trail we could take to the cops
They did it in person, in front of school staff and nothing would happen, she got told by staff that being told to off herself wasnt that bad and to turn the other cheek cos the bullies have a hard home life
So tell me where and how this will stop bullying?
All it stops is kids being informed
Stops them being connected
Stops them interacting in the modern world
Stops them from accessing hobby groups, like art or my kids venturer group communicate on discord
Stops kids forming social opinions that governments dont like

With AI and self-service being the new darling for many businesses and the scourge for customers, do you have any suggestions for businesses on how to ACTUALLY keep your business? 1. Instead of outfitting your staff with body cameras, how about having MORE STAFF available to serve you? All cameras do is prove who did what after the fact and do not help anyone when help is actually needed. 2. Train your AI/chatbot to ask: "Would you...
Andrew C 287196
Get rid of the plethora of unnecessary over-paid management types, and lower the product / service prices.
Don't waste piles of money on ridiculously priced advertising company campaigns that tell customers nothing about the product / service.
Don't buy / rent hideously over-priced buildings to operate from (including NOT renting shops in over-priced shopping malls).
Don't get greedy #1: Stick to the business' core products / services. Don't try branching out into other weird sidelines that have nothing to do with the business.
Don't get greedy #2. There is no need for any company to "take over the world". The business does not need a billion branches all over the country / world.

Does anyone who struggles in financial stress experience hard out depression? Work part-time. Trying to get more hours. Can't live comfortably, and it's starting to mentally affect me where I feel like I'm going crazy. My money goes to rent and food, and I have barely anything left. Makes me wonder, what is the meaning of life? :(
blunder boy
as grandparents we moved in with our daughter to share the costs and help her with the grandkids, putting us in a position where occasionally we can help others, if you are in Australia I know there is plenty of help if you ask, don't be ashamed of struggling everybody is, the meaning of life for me is the little things, when I retired some 5 years ago I made it a mission to be the reason someone smiled Everday, I have succeeded so far but for me its a great way to cope with the world we live in
Aug 11, 25

I plan to retire in hopefully 10 years. But I will need much more money to retire than I currently have. Everything is getting more expensive, and I don't know if I will have insurance for my medical needs by then. I don't know if medicade and Medicare will be available to me in 10 years or social security. I am scared I will not be able to for retirement in 10 years the way the economy is trending right now unless they Republicans and democrats fix things together...
Charles VIC 3044
I live in Australia and I don't understand why an ordinary citizen like myself who has worked his whole life and never received any sort of government benefit has to apply for a pension and yet a politician gets one automatically when he/she retires without having to do any sort of means test. Is this fair or unfair?
