Discussion of the Day
Are you or should we be scared about the future of jobs?
Liam H 582085Oct 06, 24
Artificial intelligence and robotics technology would likely improve efficiencies in the day to day management and operations, so what does that mean for us? Will roles then be less physical and more creative, and do we need to re-skill and relearn

Sure, we need to reskill and relearn. Life is changing.

I'd gladly give up my job to any robot, or person who's willing to do it.

I feel like I’m not adapting well with technology changes due to AI and am wary about sharing sensitive information with generative AI. I am concerned I no longer have enough information to protect my online privacy and security due to the use of AI. I am concerned about my data being used to improve the performance of generative AI tools without my knowledge. AI will have a big impact on society and I am concerned about how third-party generative AI apps handle personal sensitive information in their privacy terms and policies and concerned about the misuse of intelligent AI for harm and spread misinformation. The workforce and job requirements will change in future due to more intelligent AI-based machines and software and I'm concerned that generative AI tools make it easier to spread misinformation.

If god returns with a job for all of us sitting under the vine leaves, I want my choice of wine to sit and get sloshed with. He’s not even back yet and there are union bargaining taking place

nope, retired, but it is progress, everyone said the same thing when the wheel was invented, all the horses got pissed and unionized as they were carrying 1 person, then some smart aleck invents the wheel and now that horse has to pull a buggy with a couple fatazzes in it, so there was the start of the teamsters union here in the states😉

The grocery store where I used to work has recently put in a bunch of new self-checkouts. Last time I was there, they had only 3 open checkouts with humans scanning customers through and one of those was express for 1-12 items. Everyone shopping was forced to either wait in a busy line or check themselves through at the AI checkouts. Not cool. Business cutting hours for cashiers and making customers do their own scanning. Yes, I fear for people's jobs.

There are so many jobs out there they can't fill and kids aren't picking the right field...like plumbing, electrical, medicine,PSW . Our children are spoiled and want to start at the top. The government has given too many handouts to those who could work.

I don't like robots or AI. God made humans with an intelligent brain to be used. To some point it's good like cell phones to stay connected with family and loved ones. TV for intertainment. But all this self driving cars a smart house that does everything. Smart appliances ☹️

When Christ returns, everyone will have a job, and sit under their own vine and fig tree. During the 1000 year reign of Christ, people will learn to follow God's ways, and after that time when God is all in all, there will be no jobs for doctors or undertakers, and everybody will be fully occupied in praising God. At the moment we know our labour is not in vain in the Lord.

Not really! The way it goes AI can do certain tasks well. But when it comes to understanding and analysing complex problems, AI takes a back seat. Simply, as per my experience I had to deal with after hours AI message team in the bank. This team is pathetic and frustrating. I couldn’t explain my issue and receive a successful answer from them. They go on asking too many. questions and I got really frustrated by repeating my question over and over. Still, I didn’t get an answer so I gave up. This happened a few times. Until a human answers your message and comes out with an answer AI can do very little. Therefore, I don’t think they are a big threat to our jobs. Perhaps there can be highly mechanical areas AI could be functional more successfully, We have to wait and see a little longer!

I think excessive workers rights are far more threatening than AI right now. Everyone has been given a pay rise, tax reduction, new laws concerning casuals and young people. What it means is that it's becoming to expensive to employ people. My hairdresser told me her junior who only works on Saturdays cleaning up, sweeping etc. now has to be paid $20 an hour. She said if the time comes that she has to pay super as well she'll sack the girl and employ a woman instead. We have high inflation and high interest rates as well as high energy prices so people are cutting back and not spending, so businesses are closing and having to pay higher pay is too much for some employers.

Many jobs available in 10 years haven't even been thought of yet.

We can not get that from a robot no matter how real they look. I made a comment to a friend recently that maybe one day teachers will be replaced by robots and she said No they won't be and as it happens it was sort of tried when CoVid hit. Children were not coping all that well during that time and it took some time to get them back to what they should be learning so it didn't really work. I think teaches will be safe and jobs where a personal level needs addressing like GP's, Doctors and nurses. The bus driver maybe replaced by a robot or the garbo. Who knows as we aren't quite there yet.

For product testing, even farming. In another 200 years we may find that genetic screening will be used to weed out serious health problems instead of treating them, remove them completely. So all humans that are born less than perfect will be discarded. Those left that have skill ,and use could be eating those who don't.

Check out the Mining Sector! Huge, Multi-kilometre/mile long trains no longer have any drivers. Our incredibly stupid politicians, all genders, all parties have been touting this for many years: Driverless Taxis, Buses, Trams, Trains, LRVs and Private Cars, delivery Vans - you name it thes morons, including Prime Ministers, Premiers, Presidents et al., all have been promoting them! The subject they, typically, refuse to discuss is "What are all those men and women who are being thrown out of work going to do?" Not all people are capbable of being IT specialists. AI, we are already being told, is taking away our Right to make our own decisions. Have a look at your PC, Laptop etc.! When you are typing anything what happens? The System makes suggestions as to how you should spell, with this being the ghastly American style of spelling being the only version on offer, Try changing your PC etc. to use the Correct ENGLISH Spelling and it refuses to do so! We are being told what words we should use. The politicians blather on endlessly about "Retraining", "Re-skilling" but they make no effort whatsoever to create the facilities to do so.

Think about that each self check out, each atm, each robot in factory taxed payed by the company that use them a income tax sort of then paid to a fund then distribute between the masses an all have a income provided by the robots

Three, pensions, civil service retirements, and social security will cease to exist - since you will be working till you die. Four, 'populations' will go down in every country - too many people and not enough food to go around. Five, humans will live to be around 100 to 150 years. Six, we will 'all' live underground and become vegetarians - the surface will be strictly used to grow peanuts, walnuts, fruits, and vegetables! Seven, humans will be engineer in fertility clinics. The Human race is slow but intelligent enough to realise that the point of fix all the mistakes of the past now or we will never get the chance to again. Also with the new wave of people being able to see the corrupt, Deceitful, manipulative, self serving political, social, legal, and world councils actions for the first time in over 400 years I believe we are smart enough together to stop this covert manipulation and control operation before they have the whole game locked up to only serv the olengark,And the ruling blood lines. Not to mention the secret societies.
