Do you trust doctors?
OllllNov 25, 24
My trust in Dr's is going down.
Do you trust them? Lately they just seem to push unnecessary medication/pills when in reality all I had to do was take up exercise and change my diet

  • I trust doctors pretty well. They spend a long enough time going through education then work experience before being able to practice so that tells me that they're dedicated enough and care about what they do. However it's up to us to be informed consumers and RESEARCH THE RIGHT TREATMENT FOR US. Doctors are used to processing large numbers of people who DO prefer medication as a quick fix solution. They're not going to know if you prefer more holistic approaches to solving your problem unless you communicate that with them.

    • I have complete confidence in doctors. Their primary role is to help people, and we should all be grateful for their dedication and expertise.

      • There is 1 in my area that I am happy with. She services 3 surgeries works 6 days a week . She does the complete check, all ob's including weight. She listens intently, makes decisions with you regarding your health and what you feel is best for you. All others either sit you down ,ask you what's wrong( wouldn't be there if I knew) and in less than 5mins your out of there with a script ir told to come back in couple of days and do the same again. It's frustrating at best. No I don't have a great deal of trust or faith in doctors. Sometimes I go to my chemist before the doctors if I can't get in to see my preferred doc. I get more answers and understanding of what's wrong from him than the majority if G.ps

        • Trust comes with experience, do you trust all people? Do you trust all politicians? Obviously no, so you should only trust doctors who you have experienced in some way, and demonstrated that they deserve your trust..

          • yes

            • Even though they maybe certified, pick the ones you’re most comfortable with and trust.

              • Without them our health and recovery from illness would be far worse. They are highly trained and well paid for a good reason. Can you imagine doing the amount of Study and tests they must do to get official Accreditation? Yes, they are predominantly trusted for several logical, and valid reasons. The only exception is Dr Who.

                • Having worked in the health care field (although not as a doctor) I can tell you that a lot of it is guess work done by process of elimination. Most doctors won't get it right first time every time.

                  • not since the capitulation of the medical profession during COVID and their sacrifice of their hypocratic oath to the panic driven by political cowardice and the sacrifice of their patients. The GP has become nothing more than pill pusher in place of real cures to our growing health problems. I now trust them very little and judge my bodies health in how I feel and eat and exercise as healthily as possible. No drugs.

                              • On the most part i do trust them, BUT since COVID they do not seem to have the same personal interest in my well-being that they did. Also in my area there are way more nurse practitioners with offices than doctors and i don't know why. They are not doctors but i have to pay the same prices as if i were seeing a doctor??

                                • We had two surgeries close down. Lost 2 good doctors, training g.ps went to work elsewhere( not in our area rural) and pushed all other do tors surgeries to the limit. Now all treatment or wound care immunisations or follow ups are done by nurses to free up the doctors. Even pharmacies do immunisations, and we are encouraged to do telephone appointments when we can.

                                    • Doctors get kick backs from pharma companies. Their first go to is always prescription drugs. A comedian once made a joke which unfortunately is also true, ie 50% of doctors finished in the bottom half of their class. Statistically that is a factual statement. In my experience I'm yet to find a doctor I would recommend.

                                        • I am in the older age group and have always found doctors to be kind and thoughtful and as I am allergic to penicillen they always spend sometime going through antibiotics if I need them to make sure they are safe. When you think of the hours they work and the sacrifices they make they deserve every cent they earn unlike the average politician.

He takes his time, answers questions, looks things up on the internet (like the Fiber One cereal I eat daily, and said it's actually a good one), and when I told him I missed the Northern Lights, he went and got his cell phone and showed me photos he took! He's more like a friend to me, and a great Doctor. ;-D

                                                • Perhaps your doctor didn't want to upset you which does happen in these days of political correctness. However, there are doctors I don't trust. I had been seeing a GP who I felt was pretty good but one day my shoulder began to hurt and it got worse as the day wore on. By late afternoon I wasn't able to tolerate any clothing on and was almost beside myself with the pain. I went to see this GP who did blood tests and told me there was nothing wrong with me. I couldn't sleep due to the pain so 2 days later I went back to see her with the same results. I saw her again and asked for a referral to a specialist but she refused to give me one saying she couldn't give me a referral because I wasn't suffering from anything. A few days later when I wasn't able to sit, lay or function my husband took me to the local private hospital who took blood tests as well but also said there was nothing wrong with me. I saw a physio who wasn't able to find anything wrong either. I rang the GP's practice and spoke to another GP and demanded a referral but had to wait 6 months to see a specialist by which time the pain had lessoned somewhat. Eventually they found I had a torn rotator cuff, bursitis and osteoarthritis all in the same shoulder. So much for nothing wrong. I have been avoiding that GP but recently when no-one else was available I saw the GP again and as I told her the problem I could see by her face that she doubted what I was saying but she did a test anyway. Two days later she rang to say I had an infection so needed antibiotics and I would be fine. As soon as I finished the antibiotics I felt terrible so saw a different GP who did the test again with the result that I had been given the incorrect antibiotics for the bacteria I have. Now I am on much stronger antibiotics for a longer duration and I can only feel that the first GP didn't really do the job properly. So while some can be trusted quite obviously others can't, but it's a pity you have to learn by trail and error.

So it is just catching up on us the more the older ones keep retiring. So older doctors are obviously a lot more trustworthy than younger doctors. (will they run out?). Older doctors where not simply trained to work for big Pharma. I suppose in the hospital it self they are more trustworthy.

I went to a dentist when I was pregnant with my first son. He was very nice, knowledgeable, & I had very little pain. He was the only one close to where I lived that would see me due to my pregnancy. About 3 weeks after I went, he was on the news for killing his wife. I had a fear of dentists to begin with & him being arrested for murdering his wife just compounded that fear. I will not go to a doctor now unless I feel like I am dying!!

Sometimes they can pinpoint your troubles and treat them right away. Other times, your affliction may be really hard to figure out. I've been with my Dr. for a long, long time and I've only been disappointed once. I've developed some king of breathing impairment after I had a heart attack a couple of years ago. I've gone through test after test and still no diagnosis. I don't think my Drs. skills or knowledge have anything to do with it. On the other hand, my nephew had a misdiagnosed for several years (why he didn't look elsewhere is beyond me) and ended up very ill with throat cancer. Just the luck of the draw or not enough supervision?

My parent's GP Dr Gorgeous left and went back to Canada. They now have a lovely lady doctor. I will go to the same clinic but next time I go I am unsure who or what doctor I will get to see. A locum I am guessing but will have to wait and see. Even GP's don't want to be in small country towns where I believe life is good and more relaxing. They want to just fill out prescriptions and get paid handsomely for doing it sadly. It does depend on the type of doctor. I have said it before the surgeons that looked after my hubby did such an amazing job and we are forever so grateful to them.

She referred me to a surgeon who was the only one doing the fast path technique in australia. It made my recovery remarkably fast with minimal invasive surgery. It's now quite readily available and becoming the norm. When I was diagnosed with cancer, she referred me to a specialist who was running a trial for laser focal therapy, a new technique that is far more effective than existing techniques and has no side effects. I was number 67 in trial of 100, so just made it in. 2 years later I'm free of cancer and no ongoing side effects. Needless to say I trust my GP with my life.

My condition was so bad for over three and a half years I suffered and lied to by some saying the surgery was not necessary and others saying it was. Then I was lucky enough to find some one that was able to finally solve my condition. My faith in doctors has diminished over the years listening to their advice and things go wrong.

I really distrust the electronic medical systems. Now, instead of writing notes down, the doctors are typing into a computer, and this causes them to pay less attention to patients. There are mistakes in my medical records. For instance, there is still an old list of meds that I told the doctor I don't take anymore, but when I had covid last year, the doctor looked at that list and prescribed me the anti-viral that has more side effects because you can't take the other one with certain meds. After reading that the sides effects could be worse than the covid symptoms I was already getting over, I chose not to take the medication and soon, I was over covid on my own.

I just said, "no." and as soon as I entered menopause, the problems resolved on their own.

As Ollie says " All I had to do was Exercise and change my diet". I don't think we really need a Doctor to tell us that. All we have to do is look in a Full-length mirror! Part of the problerm is not so much that Doctors push unnecessary medication/pills on us but that People EXPECT to be given a Prescription for some sort of medication every time they visit the Doctor. Unfortunately today litigation has become such an issue that Doctors are frightened to tell their patients the hard, honest Truth such as "Your real problem is that you need to lose a lot of weight because you are obese". This is immediately interpreted by some incredibly stupid people as being "Abuse". Instead of addressing the problem by doing Exercise, moderating their diet they demand one of those sort of "Miracle Pills" which make you lose weight and only Heaven knows what horrible illness will result a few years down the track. The greatest Curse of the Internet is Doctor Google which stupid people rush to every time they get the slightest ache or pain and they Self-Diagnose so it is off to the Doctor and a demand for medication. I write from experience as a member of my family, who has No Medical or any other qualifications for that matter, has persistently diagnosed his unfortunate daughter with every imagineable illness/condition, announces it to the family only to have to back-track - blaming the Doctors not himself - when having at last actually been to a Doctor she is declared not to have any illness at all. That now young woman is a mental wreck thansk to her father and Dr Google.

I used to have good doctors but they moved or retired now there a lot of them just want the bucks so want this test and that and all sorts of things not needed. I know what I need and know my family history. I have changed doctors 6 times now in the past 4 years due to them not listening and not caring and saying well call me for a new appointment for that specific issue and I do and it is 6 months out. I just go to urgent care now for anything that is concerning
