  • My boyfriend dumpster dives. I get emails from savings websites, take surveys, get on freebies websites, etc. Every little bit helps.
    ·
    • Gosh, don't get caught!
      ·
  • While working a percentage of my wage automatically went to an investment. Now, I shop carefully using coupons, sales, and thrift stores to save. I earn points redeemable for gift cards to supplement my Christmas money.
    ·
    • Save 20% of your salary or pension.
      ·
      • its automatic for me i started the day i got my very first wage and i didnt touch it till i got my second one so i was always in credit
        ·
        • I like to run, so as much as possible, I literally run my errands, so I don't have to buy as much gas for my car.
          ·
          • use and reuse what ever possible, have a budget and stick to it. Don't buy it unless you really NEED it. Wants don't cut the mustard. Don't travel too far for "a deal" often the cost of travel is more than the 'saving'
            ·
            • Stay on a budget plan.
              ·
              • avoid sales like a plague
                ·
                • setting a budget (with saving a part of the budget, even if very small) and only buying what you need.

                  • Start familiarising yourself with where each store has their clearance items. I can tell you where each Coles and Woolworths within a 160 km radius has their fruit and vegetable reduced to clear stock and I think what I could make with each item in that section before I buy it. Many fruits and vegetables can be blanched and frozen, cooked as a dish and frozen, made into jams and chutnies or simply added together, cooked, mashed and had on a sandwich, a favourite of my grandmother and I! You can dehydrate many fruits and then vacuum seal it or place some in a sandwich bag for snacking on later. You could swap the dried fruit with a relative for something you want but don't have, like eggs for example. With meat I always look for the reduced price stickers and as I don't eat meat myself I won't buy the full price stuff but I will cut it up and put it in freezer bags for my cats as needed. I have noticed recently that some major supermarkets, Coles, Woolworths and the IGA, I don't know about Aldi as I don't shop there, are keeping their expired dry produce such as nuts, cereals and flour on the shelf until past the expiry date and making it appear as though it's a good special. For example I recently discovered 150gm packets of pecans for 1/2 price and they were just outside of their due date. I bought 2 bags and with the bag I already got on special a while back, and the French unsalted Lescure butter I bought 12 of for 1/10th of their original cost as they were closeto their expiry date, I am making pecan pies today, something normally outside my budget. BTW the butter has been frozen for 6 weeks so it will be fine. Finally, don't buy pre cut fruit and vegetables, cut them up yourself as they stay fresher longer and the cost per kilogram is less as well saving you more money! Throw the peels into the compost for your vegetable garden! Thanks for reading.

                    • Most folk are now too lazy to do the things that you mention. I in fact love cooking that way. Sadly, food seems to now come in a cardboard box with Mc or KF printed on the side. I happily pickle my own beetroot, plus cook up and freeze numerous dishes. The retirees who come into my bar are happy with their takeaway or eat in serves of home-made curried sausages, lamb's fry with bacon, spaghetti bolognaise or braised steak and onion. We live in Bali (Indonesia), I sell these meals for equivalent of $4 Aud.

                    • You're right of course about laziness. Years ago I used to work as an RN and I earned a good wage. However due to my employer stating that I am "totally and permanently disabled" I had to give up work 13 years ago. I just couldn't stand the pain either. This big loss of income which, since my children are all grown up now, really impacted me financially but it DID make me determined to use my time wisely and I still try to all these years later. I believe, having hard evidence to back it up, that there is a global famine which has already began but in the 3rd world and we in the 1st world haven't been impacted enough to become aware of just how much food has been lost due to fire, floods and other things which target plant life. It will be incredibly expensive to even buy a loaf of bread as grain prices are only going to get higher leading to a large increase in the cost of bread. I remember my mother making all the foods you mentioned above and how much I HATED lamb's fry and bacon. I would literally be forced to sit at the dinner table for hours after dinner because I wouldn't eat it. The smell still lingers with me today! But I think that it's absolutely fantastic that you cook those meals and sell them for $4! My dad still lives at home alone because he refuses to leave his house or let me come and look after him and he has recently agreed to recieve care and meals in his home. These meals are $14 each but his are subsidised and most cost him no more than $5, but they are still nothing like my mother would have made. We are SO used to having food available everywhere and it's going to be a bloody great shock when that's no longer true! Take care of yourself and your family!

                  • Here in the Shoalhaven we have a Local Community Store which sells cheap groceries. I have never eaten so well or so cheaply. It is a bit 'like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get', which makes it all the more fun.
                    ·
                    • Buy only what you need, not what you want.

                      • My best tip is.....stop spending on useless stuff. Have a look at your lifestyle....a proper look......and I bet everybody could find lots of ways to save money.

                        • I enjoy canned tuna so I wait for the specials and buy up to a dozen which will last me till the next special. I do this with a few other items also like yoghurt and crisps.

                          • I always make a list when I go shopping and stick to it and buy most things when they are on special and cut back on all other shopping as I have enough clothes so dont need any and do repairs on those that need it

                                • When grocery shopping I have a list and that is all I buy. Very seldom buy new clothes as I already have more than enough. I save as much as I can into savings for Insurances etc.

                                  • Don’t but any new clothes, just wear what you have in the wardrobe, try out a few different looks, you could be amazed and save heaps at the same time.
                                    ·
                                    • If you don't need it, don't buy it. Sales are to get you to spend. If you put 1/3 of the money you could have spent into your savings, you will be surprised at the end of the year at how much you have.

                                                                            ·
                                                                            • Automate savings by setting up automatic transfers to a high-yield savings account each month. Use separate accounts for different goals, round up purchases to save spare change, and automate retirement contributions. This ensures consistent savings and maximizes interest without manual effort.
                                                                              ·
                                                                              • You need $10,000 in the high interest savings account to get the high interest, which isn't much.
                                                                                ·
                                                                            • One of the best saving hacks is to automate your savings. Here’s how you can do it: 1. **Set up automatic transfers**: Arrange for a fixed amount of money to be automatically transferred from your checking account to your savings account each month. This ensures that you save consistently without having to remember to do it manually. 2. **Utilize high-yield savings accounts**: Choose a high-yield savings account to maximize the interest you earn on your savings. 3. **Create separate savings accounts**: Use different accounts for different goals (e.g., emergency fund, vacation, down payment). This helps you stay organized and focused on each goal. 4. **Round up purchases**: Use apps or bank features that round up your purchases to the nearest dollar and save the difference. 5. **Automate retirement contributions**: Contribute to retirement accounts like a 401(k) or IRA automatically. This takes advantage of compound interest and employer matching if available. By automating your savings, you can build your wealth effortlessly and consistently.

                                                                                  ·

We also walk everywhere we can to save on gas. I also find it helpfull to keep a monthly budget spreadsheet and input daily what we spend.
                                                                                    ·

I am now retired. I have a couple different savings acct-for different goals...such as house bills, emergency, a trip, etc. I try to pay off my credit card balance in full each month,if not I pay well over the required amount. Live below your means. We could have purchased a bigger house but chose to buy a smaller one so we could pay if off earlier.

Take that $23.68 from your account, and put it into a special savings account. It adds up fast, and comes in handy, for unexpected bills, like dentist or car breakdowns, etc. Do it wherever you get something on sale

I limit eating out and put the money aside I would have spent to eat out. When meeting with friends and family on the beach, I prepare a picnic and everyone contributes.

Many times in low seasons, I also pay a smaller bill in QTRly amount, like the water bill, than adding that 2 the bigger bill. In Spring and Autumn, I pay extra 2 compensate 4 the Summer/Winter bills, It really helps also 2 do surveys online while eating lunch of a snack. Lastly, everyday, I look at my bank balance, I save the change in an account instead of a jar. Both work but its auto. If I spend 31.99, than my saving change would be .99cents. That realy adds up and is FUN 4 me 2 have different ways.

I've had one of those huge green bottles doing nothing but collect dust for years. Well, I've put it to good use as my special savings "bank" What ever change or bills I have at the end of the week goes into the "bank". It already has about 4" of bills and coins in it. It's so satisfying to see it grow literally before my eyes that I can't wait to put my loose money in there at the end of each week. 💵😍

Also say to yourself do I really need that, or could I save that money instead. Put it in an account that is not linked to EFT POS or Internet bank transactions, or even put it in a term deposit. Also have a little bit of fun now and again, as a reward for your saving, otherwise you will get bored of saving.
