I try to not to watch the news really, I'll hear the radio news and that's bad enough. It's depressing and the media are trying to scare us. It's almost a lecturing we get..if you don't COMPLY, this will happen to you!! And then most of the news is about some actress getting butt implants, what will happen to your vag if you don't have sex etc etc. The media is too scared to report on the real news. Like Australia signing off on some treaty overseas..whaaat??!

I feel that my mental health is better if I don't watch the news, but I still feel that I should watch it to remain abreast of what is happening in the world - or versions of what is happening. I feel that information provided is more manipulated than it was previously, although obviously my perceptions have also changed with age. I feel that exposure to news can be damaging, as it tends to focus on the negatives and problems. But that is typical of most media now, whether news or not - expose the extreme negative and extreme positives, so if people are not downhearted by the negatives, they will feel undervalued, downhearted and inferior to the so-called heroes who are over-represented in our media.

I'm old enough to have my own opinions and beliefs. A lifetime of experience has given me the knowledge to form my own opinions without being influenced by media of any kind. It certainly doesn't influence how I perceive myself, only I can do that. Learn to question what you're told and see both sides of yhe story.

It amuses me that I can hear the news at 5 or 6 a.m. and thru'out the day as various people are able to manipulate that same news it can often be quite unrecognisable as the original by the time it gets to TV News in the evening! One thing is certain, that the News Companies and Presenters are acutely aware of, is that Bad News makes Good News while Good News doesn't win audiences.

No, the daily news does not effect me but it does make me very angry at times. The country and world are being taken over by left wing nit wits, all of whom have very loud big mouths, and while they shout us down the quite majority of people seem to agree with me but I have never felt I am right wing. We have a government spending and borrowing billions yet we have or will have little to show for it. I like to listen to various news programmes in order to come to a conclusion and make up my own mind. Some media sources are simply not to be trusted and I have found that young people do not watch TV news or listen to the radio preferring to believe everything social media tells them, they believe lies and untruths and refuse to believe the facts. The education system is letting us down by brain washing students instead of teaching them to think and decide for themselves. It's depressing really.

I have one news source that I trust and others I totally avoid because I don't trust the media to be honest any more. Most of our media news is very right wing and only lets us see what they want us to see or what they are paid to let us see.

I remember years ago coming home from Fiji on a flight . We had a magazine ,my friend and I had bought which had the twin towers tragedy on the cover ( being recent news a month earlier) . A gentleman asked if he could read the mag after we'd finished . He asked about the front cover " What happened there?" We couldn't believe it. He had no clue as he'd been living in a small village for 3 months with no T.V or news. In a sense we were kind of envious he'd escaped all the trauma of hearing about it day in day out. Let alone what the people went through. Sometimes it is good just to switch it off especially lately ,yet I still like to keep up to date in case something has happened ! Catch 22

I had a mate who was a reporter and he always insisted reporters do not write the truth they only provide copy for what the Editorial Guidelines for the place they work for are. So for instance if the publication is like the Australian who claim there is no such thing as Global Warming that is how they will write the story that they are covering. So you need to remember if you are reading a Commercial News you are only getting what they want to tell you so that they can sell more advertising space in the publication. The same applies to Televised news services as well. So unless you are getting your news from the ABC which by law had to tell all sides of the story you are being manipulated by the Gutter Press.

It's important to know what is going on but it's so sad some times and then other times it makes me so angry. Then there are the stories we are all sick of hearing about and wish the media would stop reporting on it but they don't. Fake news is a worry and recently saw an AI generated photo of a celebrity being arrested. The whole story was fake but wow the photo looked so really which is rather scary if you think about what damage could happen to a person. Their reputation, their livelihoods. gone in a flash just utterly and totally scary. Then the government, police, telcos have no way of stopping any of it either. Damage is going to be done and they'll be wanting to sue some one or some thing. Can you sue AI or the company that developed it? Where does it end and what hope do we have to protect ourselves if any chance at all?

The news is designed for people with about a grade 12 education. Not too detailed, not too complete, short stories, easy to eiher accept or ignore without much concern or worry. If you are watching dedicated political news the side they support is either right or left. These types of news distributers count on having "low information" viewers, on both sides of the political spectrum that are very easily persuaded to their side of the issues. Yes, they can reinforce stereotypes and they can magnify feelings about almost everything. It was pointed out some years ago that as the crime rate went down the reports of crimes went up. Keep em' scared and you'll keep em' watching. Keep em' watching and you'll get more advertisers regardless of wether you're reporting responsibly or not. Some media must illegally use scanners that are linked to Police. How else can they arrive on the scene before the Police do, then have the audacity to ask if they can take photos of a car in which somebody passed away and say the will respect the family's privacy. In another instance somebody was assaulted in a car park by youths that apparently were attempting to steal another car (not known about by the victim and another person with him) and taken a very short distance to hospital by Ambulance. The media showed the guy being taken out of the ambulance at the hospital only minutes after it happened. The Police hadn't even had time to contact the guy's parents They saw it on the late TV News. I've stopped watching the News. Far too much violence, hate, untrustworthy people, natural disasters and now children so young committing horrible crimes and seem to be getting away with it. I don't need to hear more about these horrible and depressing crimes, I'm depressed enough.

MSN is a waste of time, all they give out is propaganda and political smoke and mirrors designed to influence the masses one way or 'tother for Govts that like to hide far more than they should...The situation in Palestine, and the vast difference between what I was seeing online and what they were putting out as news was shockingly biased toward Israel and was my notice to look for an alternative news source, after trying several I finally tried Al-Jazeera which is mostly scorned by western countries and was totally amazed at how much more news from all around the world I got to catch up on and it's not good out there, turns out Palestine isn't the only place in dire need of support and intervention, none of which gets more than a passing comment from the MSN chanels...In regard to Palestine Al-Jazeera even has people on the ground reporting first hand and you can't get more accurate and current than that as ugly and confronting as it is...Conclusion, as far as I'm concerned the MSN outlets aren't worth even bothering with if you want the truth and the full story and my go-to from now on will be Al-Jazeera which seems to be the only news source that tells it like it is...

No it doesn't anymore. Sadly news outlets don't give the facts but more about how they see it or they thing people want to see it so more people will check it out. Bias interviews and little to no background work just results in me turning off. Thats why outlets like Groundnews etc have appeared as they show all the news left/right/centre thats available for a topic so you can try and balance the story.

Our local Government has stopped all elective surgery in the state due to crisis point in hospitals.. Not enough beds, staff and ambulances ramping outside hospitals waiting to off-load patients. Hubby due to have knee replacement next week now cannot have one.

Unfortunately, many people don't recognise the difference between news and commentary. You can watch the same even on multiple channles and all will be different based on channel owners/sponsors politcial/social ideology. That is dangerous and moving society from facts to feelings and science to faith. That is what we had during the dark ages.

Yes it does affect daily life. If it didn’t do that there would not be much purpose in life. Try going back to many years ago when you didn’t have daily news, and therefore knew nothing about what was actually happening around the world. Pretty hard to do that is. Just miss a week out of your daily life that sometimes happens to you and you snd don’t hear or read anything that happens during that 7 days. Pretty hard to do but it does happen over a lifetime and you lose those 7 days. No news gets to you and you actually completely have no idea what happened that you missed in those days. It’s not a nice feeling. I was in hospital unconscious over 7 days and even today after 16 years on I still read something that I missed over those days Shen I was in that state. We would be completely lost without daily news. It keeps us interested in life snd living .
