Crazy birth stories! Do you know how you came into this world?
Liane H Jan 13, 23
Always a family favourite topic is the one of the child with the unusual arrival into this world Some are genuinely scary but have a great outcome, thankfully !
I was 2 weeks overdue, which my mother was not pleased about so impatiently she decided to take some cod liver oil followed by a hot bath... Said to bring on labour, which indeed it certainly did! As the hospital was down the rd, she decided to walk.
Middle of the night, raining, she was squirming in pain by reaching the hospital doorways. Spots a rat running past. Said, 'I'm not going in there!' My father says oh the heck you're!!"
1 hr later ta da ! So am blessed I guess to have not been born in the gutters with the rats but on an actual emergency table bed instead in that sweet little bayside hospital .
Love to hear your story :)

  • I was adopted so I have no clue about my birth or where she gave birth to me.

    • My mum walked 2 miles to nearest hospital during the 2nd world war to have me. Remember when I was 4 mum and I came home and lights were on in house. Mum was worried but it was my dad home from India after the war. First time he saw me.

          • Absolutely no idea. We never discussed anything like that in our family. I am not saying it was good - just how it was in our family.

            • Yep. We lived in a village so dad had taken my mum to the hospital in the nearest township, a few days early,. Grandma went to visit her and took her back home, consequently I was then born at home, though dad had gone to fetch the doctor, with a dray and bulls. It was winter and the snow was very deep and still falling and by the time he had got back i was already in the world of turmoil and confustion.

                • I was cesarean and born with gastroenteritis, and given 1 hour to live. As it was a catholic hospital the nuns called the priest and baptised me and said a special mass for me, 77 years later I am still here. It was a big worry for my mum and dad as their first daughter died at two weeks old.

                  • I came into this world in the usual way with no crazy or funny story. I was born at home, my parents first child and first grandchild for both families. My uncle who was 5 years younger than my mother was delighted to be an uncle and took me out in my pram when I was one hour old. He would remind me of that every time he saw me.

                    • My mum said that it took her two days to have me therefore I have two birth dates …as the Doctor says I was born 1minute to midnight ??…but the Matron of the hospital said I was born 1minute after midnight ??…yes so for the last 75 years I have two birth days…also birth certificates…

                      • I was born at home (on a farm), so was my older sis. When my head came out they found the umbilical cord wrapped around my neck, was touch & go there for a while, as they had to release me from the cord, and finally I was born. I believe I have what's now known as birth trauma. :(

                        • I don't know anything special about my birth, but my first baby was due Christmas Eve. However, on November 30th, there was a blizzard. My husband called me to say that he was leaving work early. When he got home 4 hours later, I told him that my water broke. I called my OB and she told me that 1st babies usually take a while so there was no rush. When I got to the hospital, I spent most of the night walking the hospital halls. Finally, at 5:30 a.m. my daughter arrived. The next morning the nurse came to visit and fill out the birth certificate. She asked me my age and I said, when do you mean, now or when she was born? She looked puzzled and I said that today was my birthday, 12/2. So now her birthday is 12/1. P.S, her husband 's is 11/30.

                          • I have an April fool. I'm guessing you're American so your birthday is December 2nd but your daughter is December 1st and your son-in-law is November 30th. Have I got that right?

                          • I have 3 living children. My daughter was born on a Monday which was a public holiday for the October long weekend. Both of my sons were born on a Tuesday, the eldest on April fools day which was the day after Easter Monday and my youngest son was also born on a Tuesday which was a public holiday in Victoria for The Melbourne Cup. Two of my children were the same weight and 2 were the same length so I don't have too many facts to remember. Facts can be funny things can't they. Where is the states are you? I lived in Nashua NH many, many years ago. A lovely pretty place but too cold for me.

It is cold in NH! I am another American in Atlanta Georgia. It is cold here today (for us). The temp never got out of the low 40s. However, it is supposed to be in the low 60s Monday.

I live in NY, it is pretty cold here, but we just had our 1st significant snowfall, which is late for here. We're lucky we don't live in Buffalo, where they got 77" of snow a couple of ago! I have 3 daughters. The 1st one was due Christmas Eve. The 2nd one was due 9/7. My husband said that I would give birth on Labor Day, I said no way, that's too cliche, but he was right, she was born on 9/1, Labor Day! When I told my family that I was expecting again, baby #3 was due on Thanksgiving, my brother asked if I had to have all my babies on National holidays. Fortunately, she arrived early, too!

                          • My house in Nashua was much warmer than our houses in Australia. I really don't like the cold and was very happy today when it was 30C which is 86F. I love the feeling of the sun and warmth on my face and arms. Not all Aussies agree with me but I love it. A week of over 40C, that's over 100F starts to get me down though. In Winter we need thick PJ's, thick dressing gowns, an electric blanket, a doona and flannelette sheets at night but I didn't need any of that in Nashua.

                        • My Mum had all of my family late. By that I mean she would have labour pains start and be taken by Dad to the hospital. After a few hours the pains would stop and the matron would tell her to come back when the time really was due. She told me she went back and forth 3 times before I finally made my entrance.

                                        • My daughter had her second baby 4 months ago. The first birth went like a dream, everything went well. With her boy, the midwife told her that baby was too big and she must consider water birth, she didn't know from better and agreed. When she went into labor, they got the pool/bath ready for her and in she went. After a while off pain and pushes she told the Midwife that it felt like baby was stuck inside, but they told her everything is going to be fine, 5 minutes went past and she said that she wanted to get out of the bath and while everyone was trying to help her out, baby started to come out with his head, but I had a fright of my life, he was like dead blue. Then my daughter were on the floor on her back and out baby was. Luckily for all of us, he was stuck with the shoulders but was released JUST in time. Now I am blessed with 2 Beautiful Grandchildren. Love being a Nanna

Any way I was the third child so Dad didn't see me until I was about 3 hours old and he came after he had finished work which upset my Mum because she thought he should have come as soon as he could. My second daughter I gave birth to on the lounge room floor by my self except my cat was meowing at me and I kept saying I am a little busy to feed you right now. She knew I was in labour and she was great cat.

I was born 61 yrs ago, at Royal Hospital for Women in Paddington Sydney. Mum went into labour on 23rd August and I was not born until 26th. I got my records from the hospital a few years ago. Apparently I was breech and born that way. Mum was knocked out and cut all the way to her bottom. The notes say after after two days "normal baby". Mum remembers when she saw me that I was such a pretty baby with big blue eyes and a full head of hair that the nurses were walking around with me and showing me off. I wonder how close I came to not making it. I was so loved by many people. I was a normal weight (7lb 7 oz) and my mother about 5feet tall and small. All my kids were huge, over 9lbs. But I'm proud to say I pushed them out into the world naturally - best things I have ever done. Love being a Mum. Two boys and a girl.

Interestingly he is left handed, I was born left handed but heartily discouraged by grandma to not use my left hand. In the end I am ambidextrous, can can only draw with my left hand. My lawyer was also born breech and he was also left handed. I've always thought I was different and a bit of a freak. Maybe it was from my struggle to be born. These days doctors don't muck about, you end up with a caesarean.

The doctor called and asked the nurse if it could wait till after he had supper, imagine that. That didn't happen, she was born in 5 hours after the induced labor. There was babies being born all over that day, so many they had to put me out in the hall way with a lot of other women. I was bleeding bad so they packed me with ice. Then at the first feeding, an older woman brought in the baby for the first feeding, gave my baby to the lady in the other bed. I kept thinking that looks like my baby, well it was. Of course she got to feed her the complete first bottle of milk. Then I wasn't allowed to hold her cause there was rules 15 minutes out of the nursery. I am still angry over that one today.

I was scared and alone and as if this was not enough, the doctor FORGOT I was there in labor. A day and a night later, a different doctor accidentally found me, he was so angry he said bad words. He had to work overtime and get that baby born, I had a dry birth with my Son, I almost bled to death, but today my Son is alive and well and close to 50 years old. Thank God for Dr. Maxwell and that he found me. I was afraid to move was laying in bed with a strap around my waist. I was having a difficult time holding my water all that time for sure.

She had 3 daughters, then lost both twin Sons one half way through the pregnancy, the other full term. Then she got pregnant with me. She ate corn flakes every day while she was pregnant. Thank goodness, or I would not be here today. She went into intensive labor and we lived back behind a huge river you had to walk out or ride a farm tractor out to the long swinging bridge to get to the vehicle to go to the hospital. She had my Sister with her and they started up through a mile away to get to my Grandma to help her, and this direction was away from getting to the hospital. It was midnight, my Sister was so scared as Mom lay down in the field and told her to go get help at 4 years old. Somehow, she made it all that ways alone and got Grandma to help. Grandma had Dad take her on the tractor (my Dad drank alcohol as well as my Mom). When they got her to the hospital the only thing that kept her and I alive was that I weighed 10 pounds and 11 ounces. I was a miracle baby, born natural and today I am 67 years of age. My Mom just passed away last year end of November at age 96. I am totally so missing her today.

He had no idea what he was in for and neither did my parents. I was turned upside down. The doctor tried in vain to turn me, but to no avail! I'm not sure how long the labor was, but it was a very trying time for everyone including me! Finally, I was born with my whole body black and blue! My mother and I both almost died. After two girls and hoping for a boy to help on the farm, they didn't tell my mother that I was a girl because they thought she wouldn't try as hard! My father cried and said, "Mom, there won't be any more!" My youngest sister was 8 because Mom had two miscarriages after she was born. The doctor gave Mom something so she wouldn't miscarry again. On my father's death bed, he told Mom he had buried one of the babies under the pear tree behind the house! His telling that story made me realize what a strong, wonderful, loving man he was! I cry just to think of the pain he must have endured, and what did he think about when we moved off the farm leaving the deceased child behind!

Finally they gave me a shot of something that relaxed me and my son son was born. Nurse Ratchett kept saying dumb stuff until I told her I was coming after her after my son was born. I would not even let her in my room after that. When i had my daughter 13 years later the nurses were so kind it made my daughters birth much easier.

Had to wait for the registrar to finish his game of squash and get to the hospital , as nobody else knew how use those particular salad servers, as they were for salads that were large and still very high up in the fridge. They were very handy with the knife also. Happy to slice away to allow more manoeverability for those salad servers. I didn’t really like the experience. Was shaking so much that when they gave me a cup with morphine it later I dropped it and spilt it on the floor. Was bloody devastated coz I wasn’t getting any more!

I had an epidural, but had referred pain, so they gave may another spinal injection to stay still for mid contraction ( you know how much fun that is) called a saddle block. Anyway, that one totally negated the effect of the 1st epidural. I lay with a face washer over my face pretending I wasn’t there waiting for it to get to such a dangerous point that I would be rushed off to theatre. The squash game must have finished in the nick of time. Took me 5 years to go again. Still have PTSD.

I was glad they didn’t hit the cleaning department and have a crack at the vacuum extraction aka the cone head technique!

After having twins, the doctor told her that if she had 1 contraction, to go straight to hospital and tell them to call him immediately. At about 3am she went to hospital. When they heard she had only one, they put her on a stretcher and finally called the doctor. She started to have a second contraction and when they checked, the baby was coming out. The doctor arrived with his clothes over his PJs. Yes 3 contractions.

Taken for an x-ray to find I was in labour, two hours later I gave birth. Had no symptoms. Doctor said he was tucked at the back so I didn't 'show' and born a month early. Thankfully I had loads of support, learnt how to take care of him during my hospital stay. Three days later I came home, the house was kitted out with what I needed from friends, family and people who had heard about me and knitted like crazy! I bawled my eyes out. I needed to have the waters broken in the morning and then had to wear a monitor for my baby's heartbeat etc for the day. I was told that i had to be in three pieces by 10pm otherwise i had to have a C. Section birth. Anyway the time rolled on and the doctors were in the staff room. They would come to see how i was progressing. Next I knew I was having a tummy shave and the monitors went back on. They were held in place by 6inch wide plaster strips from side to side across my tummy. Each time i turned over the baby heartbeat would stop. When it first happened i was scared and all the medical staff were as well because i was the first person to use this equipment. 10pm got closer and at 7minutes to 10 I called out the baby is here and all of the medical staff came running. He was gathered by the nursing staff and taken to the. Nursery and put into the incubator. It was a scary time and beautiful too to. A lot of healthi issues had to be dealt with over the next two weeks to keep him alive. He is now 50 years young and fabulous.

When my 18 year old daughter was getting close to term she didn't like me going to work without her and so I would take her to work with me as I worked nights in an A&E Department and I would leave her in one of the consult rooms to sleep. On this night however she started getting pains not long after we arrived at the hospital. As I was working I couldn't leave the ED to take her to Maternity for a check up which told us that she was in labour but the Wardsperson did. Thank goodness that the Ward wasn't busy that night as I got to walk up and see her a couple of times overnight and she had friends who came to stay with her when I couldn't. But at 7am when I was off duty I went and stayed with her and my 9 pound 10 and a half ounces grandson was born at 12:30pm! He had to be resuscitated at birth but was OK by 5 minutes old and even though I was with her and saw him be born, after the Doctor bought him back into the delivery room I was determined that my daughter get the first cuddle with Billy. He'll be 18 in March and I don't know where the time has gone. Your DIL sounds courageous and I am sure that the three of you are close because of your experience.

If you're referring to the January 6th "insurrection" and the constant warbling on and on about a whole bunch of utter nonsense, then I'm afraid you've been deceived by the MSM. The Democratic Party has been race baiting for years and it's actually racism against WHITES and ASIANS that is now a MASSIVE problem in the US fueled constantly by rhetoric designed to polarise the American population and create further division between members of the HUMAN RACE, which is the ONLY race around that human beings can be! I am of Australian Aboriginal descent but I am more my mothers lighter colouring as opposed to my Dad's darker skin and black curly hair. I identify as an Aboriginal person but you would likely say I was white. But it DOESN'T MATTER what colour you are or I am because we are both human! I understand that if you have had these historical negative experiences that you might be resentful but I didn't do this to you nor did other Americans now living. This whole "cultural racism" is a weapon designed to feed into YOUR prejudices which it clearly HAS done to the point where you are racist yourself and seriously those BLM protests back in 2020 only served to CREATE further division and killed many innocent people and animals and the actions that I observed from media reporting on these "peaceful protests" other than MSM showed thuggery of a level that did nothing to engage me nor many Americans in support of the rioters but just disgusted them AND me! The continued display of theft, abuse and savagery displayed by BLM protesters and the large companies of corporate America who DONATED to the BLM money making machine, eventually providing enough money for the so called "leaders" of the cause to purchase a few top tier houses for those Socialists in control, but did NOTHING for anyone else. I think that ALL LIVES MATTER and the entire BLM narrative has created far MORE racism than was around beforehand, real or imagined! I know that you won't like what I've just said but this isn't the 1950's with the Klu Klux Klan! You can convince yourself that it IS, but that's just not true!
