Discussion of the Day
What's on the Christmas dinner menu, this year?
PhyrephlyDec 22, 21
Here we are, again. That time of year, ALREADY?!?! Anyways, in keeping with the spirit of recycling: What's everyone having on the table for eats on the big day? At the moment I've got two definite and 2 more maybe's, tummies to fill, +/- extras, and we're having Roasted Fish Fillets with Asian slaw, Roast Potatoes and Garlic and Green Goddess dressing. Pudding, fresh fruit salad and ice-cream/custard, for afters. This may change, given any difficulties in sourcing food/lurking lockdowns.

We had lobster tails for lunch, but were disappointing. Rather stick to prawns and scallops. We had a lovely roast pork for dinner.

This year it is simple -- ham and roast beef sandwiches. Peasant salad, green bean casserole, hash brown casserole and of course desserts.

I have a cold and a hot plan depending upon the weather. Prawns and crays in the freezer as well as the stuffed turkey breast. If we need the turkey he will be part of a baked dinner along with Yorkshire pudding that one of my daughters-in-law loves, cranberry sauce and gravy. We'll finish with Pav, mince pies, Christmas cake or pudding with either cream or custard if it's a cold day. When I look at the sheer amount of food we have for only one or 2 days it makes me feel as though we are gluttons and it should be spread throughout the year.

Prawn entrees, Ham,Chicken,Roast Pork Gravy, roast potatoes, pumpkin, sweet potato, carrots, onions, cauliflower & broccoli, either beans or peas. Dessert not decided yet. Something simple as my mob are usually too full after the first two courses as they usually have a hot breakfast of eggs & bacon.. So most probably dessert will be added to a simple evening meal.

Ham, turkey and maybe some prawns. Potato, bean, green salad. Usually I make a Ice cream Xmas cake well before the end of the year but will most likely have plain old ice cream ....... with homemade Limoncello! Merry Xmas to all the wonderful folk out there; be kind to each other and above all, if driving anywhere; please stay safe! (Have a drink (or ten) on me) ..........

We usually go to friends houses but this year I’m hosting at mine. We will have Turkey, ham & Chicken. New potatoes with butter and Brussel sprouts. Homemade Potato salad, rice salad and broccoli beetroot feta salad. For pudding Pav, fruit & ice cream and mince pies…oh shit I forgot the Traditional Christmas pudding lol Off to the shop then haha I didn’t bother with a sherry trifle either… There’s crisps, nuts and nibbles too and a selection of cheeses & crackers… And everyone can just help themselves when it’s all on the table ;-) I’m really looking forward too it

I know something about that Jenny. Hope things perk up for you and family in new year. Does make holiday gatherings difficult if there's strife. My Mum and Dad are seeing my brother and his wife & family in morning, then coming home to a lunch with me and a friend of mine...suits all - though I wish it were different, it's not, not right now, anyways. Whatever form your day takes, hope its Peaceful for you. <3

I am certainly over the Aldi ads `you can't overcook Christmas' problem is we do while others go without. We have seen the others so for us it is a very small roast beef with roasted veggies and it's so hot what were we thinking! Thank Goodness for the air con which we will use.

Storm coming now so that will cool us down for a bit. I find any thing over 35 unbearable and the air con comes on. Our hottest ever day was some thing like 48. Would have been a few years back now.

With a temp of 42C forecast, guess it will be ham salads .. and maybe a few cold ones!!

Christmas eve with family where everyone brings a plate. Christmas day just the 2 of us. I bought a prepped turkey and will roast that with potatoes and carrots. Bit of cranberry and some gravy. Should do the trick :)

I'm having roast port and veggies...a chef put up on facebook that she was cooking Christmas dinner with free delivery....so instead of bread and scratch I decided to order a meal....it's been years since I've had a decent Christmas dinner....it's being delivered Friday arvo and I'm not sure if I will be able to wait till Christmas day to enjoy it...so I'm thinking of having it for Christmas eve tea...

yeah I hear ya, when I get the "healthy" munchies, I do plain popcorn - maybe just a hint of salt, (Himalayan, of course ;}), veg sticks, (cucumber/cukes, carrot, gem lettuce leaves etc, to go with a big blob of hummous), dates, apple slices, mandies/orange segs, nuts, and maybe olives, if I'm feeling frisky - kind of healthy Heaven! Enjoy your 15 rounds of "Heartland"!

Doing a Christmas Eve luncheon in a park. Will be eating the usual, turkey and ham and salads. I am pretty excited though as it will be the first time in years that we have all been together for any reason. I do like a bit of turkey though and a bit of Christmas pud. I think if I leave the pudding container in the hot summer sun it should warm it up enough and serving with brandy custard. Someone here mentioned rum custard. That sounds pretty darn good to me but have never heard rum and custard associated before. I might give that a go with the left overs on Christmas Day. Wishing everyone the very best for this festive season.
