How much do time humans have left on this planet?
Walter WMay 07, 21
can carnivores change their diet - no?! - can herbivores change their diet no?! - can omnivores (humans) change their diet - no?! - humans are eating the planet up - in front of all are eyes (global warming) - humans can not agree on a plan to stop the carnage. How much time do you think humans have left on this planet - since we are all omnivores (and that is not going to change)?!

150 years?....but probably only 75 that will be really worth hanging around for...the fun thing is whether we will be destroyed by climate change...lack of water...lack of oxygen...no food, disease...war...or my favourite..being hit at random by one of those huge rocks that come spinning past the Earth every week or so that no-one sees coming and only occassionaly gets noticed rocketing away again...smartest monkeys...(another musical reference..I know Leonora. if you are still out there...wrong crowd!)

I am not sure where you are living, which pacific island your from, Linda C. I can tell you from my own experience from what i have witnessed. Yes you are right, all the pacific islands are built up by coral, and there are mountains in those islands formulated by deeply set in the belly of the earth, and the vast surroundings were created by lava, When we grew up, the lava rocks were very high from the sea level, now those same lava rocks are levelled with the sand on the beach. High tide or low tide those lava rocks are starting to disappear from the face of the earth. sea water has come righ up to the base of the mountain. Yes we are losing animals left, right and centre, because their natural habitat have been taken up the the sea. and some human activities helped extinguised it even more. Yes it looks like the island is sinking, but no, sciencetifici study and research by Cambridge University in 1975 told us that the sea water level is rising, and it still rising righ now . It has been predicted that the next 20 or 30 years some island will dissapear completely. So please don't spread false information, unless you are part of the cancelled culture

Estimates are that the population will double to 14 billion by 2050. This is unsustainable, so barring some sort of cataclysm, governments would have to decide to kill a lot of us off. I don't have the answers, but I 've been saying for 40 years plus, don't worry about a nuclear war, we'll eat ourselves off the planet. I won' t be here to see it, but that's my best guess. Hope I'm wrong.

Environment issues (now) will bury us before there are too many people on the planet (and there are too many people on the planet - now). Still, the RICH countries will survive - the 21st century version of colonialism (nasty habit of history repeating itself)?!

No - humans have been lucky - and time is not on our (humans)) side - this time. We have to clean up an environment mess (which humans created). We need every nation on the planet to work together - to clean up the mess humans made - and that is not going to happen. There are 7.7 billion people on this planet - and counting - this planet is not set up too feed that many people. Natural resources are rapidly being depleted by powerful countries. Furthermore, the biggest culprit in this mess is the USA (my country). We have the third largest population of any country on this planet (after China, and India ). Yet, we have less then 5% of the world's population and consume 25% of the world's natural resources. This time the hole is too deep for humans to climb out of - since humans created the mess - it will be poetic justice - if we do ourselves in. Especially when humans are the only specie to do whole sale damage to only planet in the university we can live on - talk about being hedonistic? !

The main cause of all our problems is overpopulation. There are only so many recources on this planet. There is only so much drinkable water and land to grow food. And no matter what enviromental policies you put in place, more people cause more pollution..The only way out of it is srict worldwide birth control.Maximum 2 children per family
                ·
                • BLACK LIVES MATTER
The immediate problem is environment issues. The long term issue is overpopulation of the planet (7.7 billion people and counting). You are correct - strict worldwide birth control is needed - which is not going to happen. Maximum 1 children per family and you can adopt as many kids as you can afford to adopt.

Scientists estimate that humans have been on this earth for approximately 300,000 years. In 1900 the earths estimated population was 1.75 billion people. In March 2020 that population had increased to just short of 8 billion people. That is an increase of just over 6 billion in only 120 years all adding carbon to the atmosphere. ( We exhale carbon when we breathe out ) The only real way out of this mess is to bring in 1 children families similar to what China had in the 1960's and 70's otherwise we are going to breed ourselves off this planet

Probably another 6 billion years IF the politicians pull their fingers out of their nether regions and actually start to do something. All they do is chatter and chatter and chatter. Some, like the present Prime Minister of Australia, that of India (just what do you think all those fires they are burning bodies in is doing to Climate Change? Ban those cremations and either take on the type the rest of the civilised World uses or make buriel compulsory) simply ignore the issue altogether. Australia's PM is one of the worst offenders, On the one hand when it comes to Covid19 he loves to make out he is following the Scientists Advice yet when it comes to Climate Change he just ignores their advice as if they don't know what they are talking about whilst he does. Morrison is deluding himself. Unless the politicians take drastic action now then we will probably all die out within a 100 years or less. Yes, if they get the guts to make the unpopular decisions, they will be unpopular but at least they will address the most important issue the World has ever faced. Secondly, we have got to stop being so Greedy, so Selfish and play our part as well, simple things like reducing Landfill, using the correct bins for the rubbish we create. Refuse to buy Plastic good in any form, reduce our food consumption and address the appalling Obesity Pandemic which is killing us - a form of deliberate Suicide.

You made three valid points which will effect the outcome of the survival of the human race. One, we have to start holding politicians accountable (period). Two, we have to start holding religious leaders accountable (period). Three, we have to start holding ourselves accountable (even if means a reduction in our standard of living) - period. Humans are not trustworthy (going by our track record - which based is on greed). Furthermore, humans are not capable of change or we would not have an environment mess to clean up.. Therefore, we have a minimum of 40 years and a maximum of 100 years to get our act together - to clean up the environment we (humans) created. I (personally) do not see that happening. Anyway, I am OLD - so I will be dead - before humans die in their own environment mess!

I was thinking 2 generations and massive changes in our political systems, economic systems, and etc. Unfortunate, humans are resistant to change and are despicable beings - we can not trust each other - which does not bode well for co-operation with all nations (and we need all nations on board) to fight our environment mess - and co-operation is the only thing that will get out this mess - we (HUMANS) - create!!!

Good news! Jesus is coming back to rule on Earth for 1 000 years, so there must be people around for that long. One of the signs of the end times is the emergence of false prophets. I don't think that means only religious ones. There are plenty of groups preaching that we are doomed because of a climate "emergency". I trust God that He's got it all in hand and He will sort it all out in the end.

It will be environment issues (and humans are incapable of change) and over population (the human population starting in the 21st century doubles every 12 years - the rule of 12) - which will make us become an extinct specie in 40 to 100 years. However, we (humans) do survive wars!

The future doesn't exist yet, for some it holds hope and optimism. Sadly some people prefer to look on the dark side of life and forget to find pleasure and joy in the present moment. It is irrelevant how long we have left on this planet, we have today, make the most of it

I don't think we yet know how much time we have to turn things around. But we do know that we need to act rapidly. Climate change is a major issue, and the moves being made are too small. We urgently need to start moving faster on reducing emissions and cleaning up the planet as much as we can.

True - we don't know how much time we have to turn things around. The mess (the environment) - that humans created is getting worst (on a daily basis) and we are slow poking around without a concrete (agreed on my all governments) plan of action. We don't have as much time left to us as we think - we can not pass this problem on to the next generation to solve.

The human race population starting in the the 21st century will be doubling every 12 years (the rule of 12) - we (humans) do not have a let of time left - maybe between 20 years and 40 years left!!!

The real question is how much time does the planet have for humans? Have you noticed how many flash floods, earthquakes and other natural disasters are occurring? They are happening more often. We are supposedly the smartest species but I beg to differ. We are a selfish lot.

We might be the smartest (?!) specie on the planet, however we are definitely the most selfish of all species on the planet! My guess is we have more then 20 years, but less then forty years - too start cleaning up the planet. The human race population is (now) doubling every 12 years (the rule of 12)!

Like - however, I don't gave earth and its tenants another fifty years maybe 20 years (?!). We (humans) know what the problem is (and have known for a long time) - but we (humans) refused to address the environment issue - leave the environment issue to the next generation!

I live by the ocean and everyone talks of sea levels rising but it has not risen where I live (pacific ocean) so this argument does not wash with me. Islands sink as they are built up by coral and coral collapses hence why some islands disappear as they cannot take the weight of the buildings put on them. So for me this is a load of rot. We are losing animals left right and centre due to humans cutting down the forests and this has to stop. We need to replenish the areas decimated in this way and it can be done. Animals are responsible for the gasses (not all but for instance, cattle, camels, zebras, etc) and Australia has developed a product from seaweed that when fed to these animals cuts it down by 50-90% with just a spoonful or so and at a very low cost. This is already being trialled in Queensland. We are banning plastic use also. No plastic bags, no plastic cups, knives, forks, spoons, plastic packaging etc. We are doing a lot more here to reduce carbon as well. Unfortunately, not all countries are but every bit helps. Some of the things that are happening now have happened before in the earths history and man survived. Let's not be all about doom and gloom. If everyone in this world planted a tree or a small garden for the bees and insects native to their area this would improve the air quality as well. I don't think the climate will destroy the human race but I do think the human race will destroy itself through another war.

I think the climate will destroy humans (take a look at Alaska - a state in USA ) or the over population - starting in the 21st century - the world population is doubling every 12 years - the human race survive wars!

Glaciers have come and gone before and the world is fine. However, mankind is overpopulating and if another war erupts weapons they have now will destroy everything. Maybe a few will survive who knows. Roughly about every 100000 years the earths temperature rises or falls by up to 5 degrees and 20000 years ago the sea was 120 meters lower than today. Natural cyclitic events occur. I agree though there are man made problems causing concern and these should be addressed.

I agree with your last sentence - we are not addressing environment issues! Glaciers have come and gone - but modern humans have been around only 200,000 years. However, time is not on humans' side - this time

Depends on who you talk to. Christians say a world without end. Scientists say years. I say it is a natural progression of the earth. At least a 100 years.

Humans are the only creatures capable of thoughtful change. Yet, we're one of the few creatures who don't really like to be told what to do, and when we can do it. And we're even the only ones able to hide &/or lie about our behavior to others. So, on our own, we are our own worst enemy. It's more than a minor Miracle we've lasted this long. We would see to our own destruction long before the planet allows us to destroy it for good. Nature has a way of winning, where we fail miserably.
