No we don’t need fireworks they are expensive and dangerous. Yes they might be beautiful however the safety overrides the cost of these fireworks

In most major cities that is what happens - the city puts on the fireworks and everyone goes and watches it or watches it on TV!

Please if any or all of you could do what you can to stop individuals putting them off here where we live, I would be so thankful. They scare the wildlife, they scare the veterans, (my husband is a veteran), they are very dangerous of fire, my Mom was always so afraid of them before she passed away. I would appreciate if each and every one of you could call Charleston, WV, fire marshall's office and demand they stop them. Thank you all, love you all.

Where I live, we have people putting off fireworks all times of the year, and there is only one way in here and one way out. There is tall dead trees on both sides of the road. I am afraid of fire, but the laws in WV allow these people to put off fireworks in all kinds of dry weather with the dead pines and when I ask the county commissioners what if we burn up back here, they have no answers, they just disregard it like it doesn't matter. I get so upset, called the fire marshall, he doesn't care either.

People get injured, fires get started, and they look really cheap compared to the displays put on by professionals. In my opinion they're just not worth the cost.

From my observation the largest destruction seems to come from where they are made and kept. We can regulate it on our shores but it seems manufacturers of the product don’t have the same regulations.

They should be banned fullstop I get furious when I see the major cities around the world spending millions on these displays at various times and in particular at New Year just think what the money could be spent on improving lives. I didn't think an individual could buy crackers anymore. You never see them for sale in NSW. I love crackers and miss Empire Day and the crackers, all there is now in New Year's Eve and I don't want to travel into the city to see them. Once upon a time we could drive down the road to see them but when they upgraded the road the little park went so nowhere other than the city to see them now. It's a shame.

Totally agree ban the sale of them and stick to a controlled display for all to watch...It's never just one night it's over several and my cats have been so distraught,hiding under beds,meowing vocally,jumpy and also vomiting,it's not fair to see them go through such anxiety all for the sake of some ones idea of entertainment...It's time society did the right thing!

When I grew up fireworks were available and not to expensive. We have great memories of getting together as an extended family to set them off. This ment the children were supervised. But they can be very dangerous if in the wrong hands. (A lot of unsupervised children and young adults were hurt).

In Australia it is illegal to have these or use them. Laws were changed because of serious injury,mainly to children .

In life, there are many things that humans do for mere satisfaction or habit. Celebrations with fireworks is one of those. It’s not really necessary, but some think it’s essential. Sometimes, they even get into trouble by killing innocent people. Still, they continue to do it, because it’s a strong habit second to nature!😃

I did some very stupid things with fireworks when I was a teenager so I know its a good thing that there are restrictions on the sale of them today. Back in the day kids could go to the corner shop and buy whatever they wanted; I would blackmail my mother into giving me money for "crackers" by offering to ride my bike to our local corner store for her cigarettes or whatever else she wanted. It was very easy for kids to buy cigarettes, lighters, matches or crackers back then, but whats worse is that very few parents saw any harm in allowing it.

I love to watch fireworks that are done professionally, and safely! I got burned by a piece from one at an outdoor concert! OUCH!

I really miss not being able to buy legal fireworks in NZ, many happy memories of a yearly tradition for 40 years, that I loved as a child and then my children did there after, along with the Kiwi barby and drinks with family and friends. Now we only hear the odd random one being set off ,maybe by youth, not sure. As usual the idiots ruin everything for the majority of people. We always had them in sand and a hose and bucket of water close. My cat and dog never had a problem with them.

Too many people are too irresponsible to be trusted with their own fireworks. Ever seen videos of teenagers playing tag with Roman candles? There should be room for responsible adult entertaining their small children with the bright lights and big booms, but you can't police everyone. Leave the fun to the professionals and 'ooooo' and 'awe' over the colours, effects and the bangs.

After spending Saturday and Sunday nights awake with fireworks being used next door I think it’s time people showed some respect for their neighbours and didn’t use fireworks at random times during the night for 3 hours both nights especially when they start aiming them at dwellings where people live. Not fair on anyone except the few who continue to get pleasure out off doing this sort of thing to everyone living in the area and their animals and pets. Not fair by any stretch of imagination. Especially when there are parks and reserves where they could do this sort of thing and not disturb anyone at all I went into the back of my house after it was all over and the smell of fireworks and smoke was really bad because it was windy outside and no one thought about that at all. Theft just thought of themselves only.

In Australia only the experts are allowed by law to use them.

Should be public displays only, no private sales

There are still places you can go to buy them if you know where. We don't like them due to the fact we have dogs and a cat. We don't go and see my parents because of the fireworks. We were in Alice when it was cracker night well they went off all throughout the night and our old dog nearly died, he was shaking and was so nervous. He's deafer now and he doesn't hear the thunder any more which makes us very sad. But glad in one way as he used to really freak out a lot.

When fireworks are on our pets can't cope with the crackers going off, for them they don't feel their world is safe for them. Fireworks costs hundreds and hundreds of dollars where they could spend the money on all public services. I like watching the fireworks on tv but around New Years Eve and even on the day the companies that put them on make a big deal about it.

Great days growing up Guyfox day was the best people got together at local park put together pile of wood and had fireworks in it . We bought penny bombs sky rockets and had safe happy times. Grew up in the best years.

I have fond memories of fire works too. We should be able to have a choice to purchase fireworks. Too many choices are taken away from us as it is. To me the 5th Nov was the day we burried my dad. I was 11 years old when my dad died. I remember everyone enjoying fire works that night and I was so hurt and angry. 41 years forward, fire works have a special place in my heart now. I am not a person who likes crowds so big events are not my thing. Actually, growing up, I knew of more kids who blew things up with their home chemistry sets, than with fireworks. One kid in my Jr. High class lost his eye brows.

They frighten animals so I would be happy to see them completely replaced by drones.

Sincw I was born on July 4th, I have a fondness for fireworks. But seeing what drones can do, I have no objection to fireworks being replaced.

It would be better to let skilled people do it in certain range.

Just how many Tonnes of muck do our heads of State, Prime Ministers release into the atmosphere when they hop into their Sole Use Jumbo Jets, in the case of the USA and probably others, their President not only has his Own Sole Use Jumbo to tramsport him around the world he also has another couple following one with his Sole Use Monster, Gas-guzzling Motor Vehicle in it. Thay are all such Hypocrites, such Liars, such Parasites.

If it was an organized display once a year it would not be so bad at least you would know to keep your pets in, put people seem to stockpile them and let them off at any time, so many people and animals are traumatized or injured and even killed. The green party has shown their true colours by lack of action in getting them banned. But then the only green they seem to like is cannabis!

I have good memories of the neighbourhood kids and parents walking down the street with their blankets to a grassed over overpass and sitting there waiting for the Canada Day fireworks to start. When our children were young, we used to do fireworks .they had fun running around with sparkles, we kept them safe, there was no accidents. our way. But these days people have become to careless that's what makes fires works dangerous. It is far better to have controlled fireworks displays these days

They have definitely had their day. There are so many other, safer, less expensive options such as laser light shows that don't traumatise animals or harm the environment and don't waste public funds at a time when our needs for basic things in this world are so great.

Don't buy them and don't want to anymore. We have this discussion every year but fireworks still go on sale in New Zealand four days before Guy Fawkes and are allowed to be used all year around.

I hate them. The area around my place on Saturday night sounded like what I imagine a war zone would sound like. I don't see why we celebrate something that didn't even happen in our country (NZ) and sure, if they'd been successful things would be different now but we're celebrating someone who failed to blow up parliament. Why aren't we celebrating Sir Thomas Knyvet who caught Guy Fawkes and arrested him?

I know it's nice to be able to put them off yourself, but you should be old enough and mature enough to do it safely and within the laws of where you live. I really don't like any fireworks. I think about the cost, the scared animals and the environment. What goes up is in our air, and a lot of it falls into our soil. I don't appreciate the light show as much as I appreciate my environment.

I remember in my time we could by them from a milk bar near us for 1 cent each. They were band years later due to injuries.

The trouble I have with fireworks is when people light them on other days other than Guy Fawkes. No warning and rushing around to find the pets, disrupting sleep, animals traumatised by this 'annual' yeah right! event

I 'think' fireworks should be sold only to certified, license, register professional firework experts - regardless of where you reside (free country or dictatorship country) - because of the harm they (fireworks) do and continue to do (we all have heard personal horror stories of what fireworks have done to people when handle by amateurs)!Edited 08-Nov-23 12:30pm

I know they're expensive, and dangerous etc but.....there's realy something fun and special about picking out some for yourself and the kids, then at the right moment grabbing the kids and....lighting the fuse!!!.....its freaking AWSOME!

I have no affinity for normalizing dangerous practices. (It's not like I need to hear/know what wars sound like). Imagine how frantic/panicked some pets/kids/elderly can get, even those of us humans who suffer from PTSD triggered by loud, random pops and explosions? -I can recall how the roof of a nearby school got badly burned as the perps ran away when their fireworks went out of their control. just awful and expensive to repair.-Anything to save money can be a better choice! -Yet, we live a world of choices....imagine when the dark skies decide to fire back👀
