Discussion of the Day
How do you feel about the Space Program?
writerrochelleMay 20, 24
When my daughter turned 1 year old, July 20, 1969, men landed on the moon. I have been against the space program from the beginning, and I'd love to know how others feel. My thinking is, if the Billions of dollars spent on the space program over the past 55 years would have been spent on this earth, not one person would be without anything! We would all have everything we need including a place to live, plenty to eat, clothes on our backs and medical care. Also, the environment wouldn't be so unlivable. What do you think?
Are you for the space program?
Are you against the space program?
Do you not care either way about the space program?

If we hadn't or didn't have a space program I don't think anything here on Earth would be much different...wealthy countries would not have channeled all the money into anything useful for the planet...and the environment would be exactly the same...because we are all greedy stupid monkeys who are determined to wipe ourselves out...the only time ALL the countries on this planet can work together..in harmony... and help each other is WITH the space program...Russians Americans European and Asian space agencies all working together for us....the human race...with a determined SHARED goal...it doesn't happen on this planet sadly....but when we are off-world it actually works....and that is really valuable... we all can be one...honest....and fair... we just might need a common enemy to focus on.... we will probably find one if we try hard enough...where is that telescope?

It's found in the inspired words of our Creator recorded in the Bible by men inspired by God as to what to record for our information. It's our guidebook, rule book and our salvation. Our common enemy is Satan, the devil, who is ruling over the earth, but not for much longer! ;-D

I just don't get most of this on the world news...when did satan take over and when does it end?
      ·

Remember, at Matthew 4:8,9 the Devil offered Jesus all the kingdoms of the world? He could not offer what he did not own. Satan's rule began when Adam and Eve sinned against God in the Garden of Eden! That's when sin began. His rule will end when Jesus the Christ returns to earth with the 144,000 and myriads of heavenly creatures, and removes all of the wicked from the earth! Such Exciting Times we are living in! Please read Psalm chapter 37 and Matthew chapter 24, and, for more information, please visit our website at: jw.org. ;-D

Actually, if they had only read the Bible, it says the earth is a sphere! And, that it is suspended on nothing. If you're interested, I'll reply with the scriptures. ;-D

I'd like to read that one please...

You got it! At Isaiah 40:22 we read, "There is One who dwells above the *circle of the earth,..." (Footnote: *Or, "sphere."). And at Job 26:7 we read, "He is stretching out the north over the empty place, hanging the earth upon nothing;". Please also read Romans 1:20 and, may God Bless You! ;-D

sorry a circle is not a sphere..I was curious...but a flat earth could be circular too...couldn't it?...

Are any of the stars or other planets flat? Is an atom flat?

I think the issue was that the bible referred to the Earth as a sphere...which doesn't appear to be entirely true..does it?
      ·
    • writerrochelleAPB
Yes, it does, in the footnote. If you are truly interested in what the Bible is all about, you can go to jw.org and search for answers to any questions you may have. ;-D

I'm glad you asked Jimmy One small step one giant leap for mankind and woman kind and whatever kind you choose to be in this ambidextrous world... The fact that we got to our orbiting moon on no more than the computer power of a calculator a testament to ò will to go where no man has gone before . The world is a better place for it. So much has been developed that we use every day because of the program it is narrow minded to think that it's a waste of time and money. Yes the cash could be used elsewhere but we are so much better off because of it.

Are we really Better Off? Are families bonding closer together? Are they spending more time together toward a common goal? I only know one thing that can bring families, and the entire world, together. If we would all concentrate on what is written in the Bible, and apply it's counsel. It was written for our benefit, for our protection, to live the way Jesus did while on earth, humble, and kind, loving one another. Do we really need all of the technology? It is destroying what the earth was created for...Families! ;-(

It is a complete waste of money! It was also announced recently that the US government is putting even more money into it by granting a contract to a company that will build a railway on the moon. Trains on the moon before feeding their own people and sheltering the homeless, they must be crazy!

Until every person on this planet has enough food, shelter, medical care, clean/safe water to drink, education, etc., the space program is a useless waste of dollars that should be spend here on this planet helping everyone who needs it. I don't care what resources may be up there or who could afford to buy it, I don't believe any other planet is going to sustain life whether it be human life or to grow food. It's a prime example of messed up priorities and such a useless waste. So what if an astronaut gets to see beautiful visions of earth from space?!! Is that view really worth knowing billions of people are hungry and without a home???

I'm against going into space because I don't think there is anything there we can learn but we have benefited from the space race. We now have integrated circuits instead of transistors or valves. We have thermo blankets and microwaves. TV's and radios are much smaller because of the technology and medicine made huge advances because of it. We have probably gained all that we can from it now so I think it's just a waste of money and some people are silly enough to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to experience it. Not me!

I would hate to imagine how much junk is floating around up there. Yes we need starlight's but honestly what is the rest of the space program for? We have deep space telescopes and apparently some starlight's /space probes send us pictures from deep space. If just flying in aircraft is damaging the atmosphere what is space travel doing? And don't get me started about the cost.

I am creating new heavens and a new earth, and the former things will not be called to mind, nor will they come up into the heart..." Isaiah 45:18 reads, "For this is what Jehovah says, the Creator of the heavens, the true God, the One who formed the earth, its Maker who firmly established it, Who did not create it simply for nothing, but formed it to be inhabited; "I am Jehovah, and there is no one else." Psalm 104:5 reads, "He has established the earth on it's foundations. It will not be moved from it's place forever and ever." Psalm 37:29 reads, "The righteous will possess the earth, and they will live forever on it." This earth is the home Jehovah God created for us, and no other planet, so this is where we will live. Not out in space. Any money spent on the space program is a waste. It would be better spent repairing the God given earth man has "brought to ruin". ;-D

The space program isn't the problem, I'm undecided as to whether it's worth the time, effort and money poured into it but I don't think it's the biggest problem we've got, the problem is all the wasteful Govt spending even as they give more financial concessions to the wealthy who do not need those concessions, while those on the lower level of finance are left to struggle more and more, the $$$ spent on the space program are minimal compared to the billions funneled into big business, corporations, and the pockets of the wealthy...If just a small portion of those billions were used to benefit those in need there most likely wouldn't be anyone in need which would not please those at the top of the ladder given they clearly prefer us all to be struggling...A universal benefit for all would solve most, if not all the poverty across all the world, that scheme has already proven itself in various places around the world and it would also mean people who wanted to could devote themselves to environmental issues, or any other issue, without having to fret about finance, but good luck getting something so simple and practical done with all the Govt's acting like idiots with no thought to the future...The race to claim any and all resources from space is on and there's no way they're going to stop that race so our best bet is to focus on other ways to save the planet, and ourselves...

If humankind doesn't explore, seek new horizons - and DARE to question the many issues that science brings up, we'd all be in a very crowded and unhealthy setting! There are an unimaginable number of things that will be discovered, invented, disregarded, and combined to make something better for all of us. Yes, it's tremendously expensive. Anything that involves the collection of thousands of workers ranging in skills as far apart as engineers, doctorates, pilots, construction workers, designers, medical research and many, many more that I can't think of right now. Whether the funds are paid out by God fearing democratic republics or God hating communists once one side starts then the other side must follow. The Americans and their allies have won the space race for now but what about all the other countries that are learning to send up viable satellites (To do who knows what. Telecommunications? With whom?). I don't know about you, but I sure don't want to be on the wrong end of a nuclear threat completely unprepared, unguarded, and at the mercy of the guys that don't like us.

If we destroy civilization as we know it we need somewhere else to go. If the population on Earth keeps growing we will run out of minerals, living space etc. It would be too late to look into space then. Perhaps one day our food could be grown in space! Who knows? But we have to look at the possibilities before we destroy ourselves.

Shouldn't we be fixing this planet our only home we call Earth before thinking of going to another planet? Getting rid of greed and corruption and making this planet safe for all to live, making sure we have water, a place to call home where animals are free. Not put in cages to have their glands milked every day for the rest of their lives and people too stupid to realise it's not magical medicine. They don't need it. We can put man on the moon but we can't stop morons from ripping people off. We can't breed out stupidity.

Sending humans to screw up other planets is even more ridiculous. In other ways the space programmes have helped here on Earth. There are many advances in various aspects of modern life that either would not have happened or would have taken much longer to arrive if it wasn't for the research done by the space industries. The same can also be said for the military spending. And no, despite many conspiracy nutter loony claims, NASA did not get help from aliens nor reverse engineer alien crashed spaceships. 🙄

If the USA doesn't have a respectable and peaceful presence there, it defaults and cedes dominance to those who do. It IS the Final Frontier. At least this "colonization" of Space probably won't involve takeovers and genocide of Indigenous beings...as far as we know now, of course.

Remember you can't eat money. even if the space program was stopped it doesn't exactly mean there is more food, money doesn't fix the earth, money is partly what wrecks the Earth. I find the space program entertaining or interesting. Yes Launching rockets does damage the earth in it's own way.
