I love doing the small things around the house but for major renovations I definitely get a professional to do it. By saying I it means my wife wouldn't dare let me take on a major renovation.

Yes both getting someone to do the things I know I cannot do, will save me in the long run. As there are lots of things, I cannot do as I don’t have the qualifications or expertise, and if I was to attempt will probably cost us more in the long run

Repaint the complete interior. Do it myself. I get a friend of mine who is a painter to do the ceilings but other than that I do it myself. Was married twice and both times to painters so have run 2 house painting businesses and while also working fulltime and having children have also helped out with painting when needed so know the process myself. Just takes longer but I am not in any hurry. Work room by room.

We always get a tradesman in, saves a lot of arguments. Also if you get a good tradesman you will get a great professional looking improvement to your home and that puts extra value on your home.

A few things need doing but have just forked out for new toilet and stove, so a few cracks and re-enforcement of facias is next on the To Do List. Also want to pull up the carpets in 2 room and passageway so have floorboards.throught the house except the wet areas which are finely down with tiles.

Oh my god yes. What a nightmare. Took 8 weeks to get some timber. Husband is now on the roof and doing it all himself as it is an 8 month wait for a roofer. Wouldn't have started the Reno if knew it was going to be this hard. Flooring next, luckily we got the windows. Insulation is also hard to get. Saving money doing ourselves though. Spending over $150 grand so would hate to think what it would cost if we had gotten some one to do it for us.

I have painted many a home over the years and my home is coming up to a spruce up but not well enough to do so. Maybe one day. I have paved, cemented, painted, done some carpentry, gardening, paths, drive ways and such over the years but never attempt plumbing and definitely not electrical work.

Now that I’m retired there is always a project on, mostly outside

If you are planning on getting new carpet. If you can pull it up and take it to the tip. My partner and I did and it cost us $26 to dump it at the tip. carpet place charges $15 per square meter to pull up and take away. Would have been been just under $ 700.
