Discussion of the Day
Do you / have you had a passion in life?
TimtamAug 17, 21
I'm not talking love affairs, but do you have an interest, hobby, work area or cause that you are/ were truly passionate about?
It used to be a saying that if you find something you love to do, you will never work a day in your life.
I've always thought this would be great, but never really found anything. I've worked in areas I have had a vague interest, but it's always been more for survival than passion.
Have you ? What was / is it?

  • I do not fully agree that you will never have to work a day in your life if you find something you love to do...Why? Because.... My passion is my very large vegetable garden in my backyard to help people in need with fresh vegetables. Such a garden requires ongoing very physical work, preparing the soil manually, planting, ( watering is easy ); then there's the harvesting, washing, making the crops look good like in the shops.....BUT having said that, it is a labour of love

                          • I enjoy knitting and have been knitting for around 60years, a few years ago I knitted beanies for the homeless, and actually started up a group involving several Neighbourhood Houses. I called the group "The Great Commuknitty Event" people got involved knitting beanies, scarves, mittens and rugs which were donated to the homeless in and around Hobart (Tas). Was thrilled as we won a kindness award (worldwide) and obtained a donation from Coles and were able to purchase toiletries and underwear which was donated to a Homeless drop in shelter. https://www.facebook.com/groups/148991082462040

                            • When i was a child my passion was my birds, budgies in particular. I loved to breed them and got right into the genetics and selective breeding to get new colours from the young. I was also passionate about cross stitch throughout my child-teenage years. The past 5 years have seen my passion revolve around knitting, which i was taught by my late Nan over 30 years ago. I now knit in her memory as it helps me grieve.

I also love crocheting. I have quite a collection that I will sell when we can have some sort of market stall. Hopefully things will get back to normal so that it can happen.

                                        • I have knit up countless items for gifts and currently have 5 large crates of items ready for a stall of my own if lockdown ever ends and the country gets back to any type of normality. I hope you sell out of your items. You can always try FB Marketplace or online handmade sites for virtual markets ?

                                        • Yeah I have thought about FB Marketplace. But I am concerned about how people will get their items and how payment will take place. I know postage is one option, but that can get expensive and then there's the problem of payment. I'm not keen on paypal or giving my card details online, so there's the dilemma I have.

I do not trust Paypal, the process to get your money is slow and annoying. My neighbour recently sold a bike on ebay, payment came through Paypal. The buyer picked up the bike from him BEFORE he received the money. He got paid 2 weeks AFTER they got the bike, because BEFORE paypal gives the seller their money they make sure the buyer received the goods; this is to help the buyer avoid scams ...But leaves the seller wide open to being scammed and never paid for those goods

Yeah totally agree, do not trust Paypal either. Much prefer p/up or del and cash payment upon receival.

I have sold many items asking for Direct deposit. They only need your BSB and Account number to be able to make a deposit. I give my account name too as this can sometimes make the process faster. My bank has assured me this is safe as the person doing the depositing cannot access your funds. If you do online banking, this also means that you can check when the deposit clears in your account. Buyer always pays for postage unless postage price is factored into the cost of the items you're selling.

The computers even with Microsoft products are sort of logical it's when people become involved that things go to Hell in a Handbasket very quickly and they expect the Impossible to happen without input from them or the ability to do it anyway. Never mention updating a Mail Server either turning off the E Mail is worse than taking their children and selling them into Sexual Servitude if you believe what they say but at the same time they want that server working properly just do not turn it off to replace the broken part/s.

My one real passion which is hard to get in is volunteer work at an animal shelter. I would love to foster animals also but as I care for an elderly parent it would not be possible.
