Discussion of the Day
Why cashless?
Victoria 315341May 26, 25
What do you think about your Country going cashless? There are thousands of older people who are not doing digital banking, or even have computers, let alone "smartphones." My local branch has closed all their teller's, so now we have to use the ATM...

  • It's too easy for digital accounts and what's in them to go missing or be emptied. Cash is something physical and you can have it in your hand and it keeps its value. No brainer. Governments want to know where your spend your $$$, with cash they can't
    ·
    • I don't like the idea of no physical cash around anymore. Others have already mentioned a few things I would have included here but it's easier for many people to save and manage money when they can see it. some psychological thing. Plus I loathe the almost expected forfeit of privacy in recent times.

      • I think it's a bad idea.

        • I think going cashless is bad because for the elderly and also stores adding surcharge whenever they like

          • i think going cashless is very bad for the older people. Not all of them have credit cards or computers. We really need to appreciate and help out the older generation.

            • I embraced the Cashless Payment way but have now largely abandoned it and returned to Cash. Why? Beacuse so many businesses, large and small, now have the gall to charge a fee when we use either Debit or Credit Cards. Those Fees are either a fixed amount or based upon a Percentage of the cost of what you buy, a fee which can vary between 2.5% up to as high as 7%. When asked why they do this the response is a standard: To Cover the Fees the Bank Charges us. That is a blatant and deliberate Lie for one very simple reason. In Australia, with the exception of fees the banks charge Businesses if they Overdraw their accounts, the Australian Tax Office allows Businesses to Claim All Bank Fees, such as those the banks charge retailers when a customer uses a Debit or Credit card, to be used as a Tax Deduction. In our home Cash is now how we pay for everything. get your self a couple of Piggy Banks and put all of the coins you get in change in to them, its amazing how quickly you safe. As the old saying goes If you look after the pennies, the pounds will look after themselves.

              • Reserve Bank of New Zealand Act 2021 states cash is legal tender so why are shops not accepting cash?
                ·
                • We need cash for many reasons, garage sales, markets etc. not everyone has credit cards or take them. Kids like to be paid pocket money and like to buy things with their money.

                  • Keep Cash! important for privacy and choice

                    • I mainly use EFTPOS for shopping. I also use direct debit and online banking for the invoices. However I always keep some cash in the wallet for emergency. I do not like the idea of going cashless.

                      • No way then the banks and government will control you
                        ·
                        • It is a form of prejudice. Not everyone has the comprehension, ability or be able to afford the technology necessary.

                          • We are seeing this kind of thing in China already, and it is beginning in Europe. One of the points (from the 'conspiracy theory' side that gathers info) is to create a society under the control of the few, here and generally meaning the gov't, and a 'social credit' system that rewards obedient and submissive subjects/citizens, and immediately targets those that don't follow the Policies as directed. We've seen some examples during the worldwide lockdowns of some of the consequences, both of following and not following. Death and destruction are now minor disturbances barely worth reporting.

                              • Being a senior I rarely use cash. Most everything on credit card which is paid in full every month & rewards me with Qantas frequent flyer points which have been used for flights over the years!

                                • It’s so sad because when we had the effpost go down the amount of people who couldn’t pay for their shopping was horrible. A few people were lucky enough to go to ATM and get cash out and pay for it but 95% couldn’t. I love my cash!!! KEEP CASH
                                  ·
                                  • I try and use as much cash as I can. Going cashless is just for control over more people. and even more ease for the banks because they get to charge even more interest on everything. Like when you see there is 130 billion dollars in Australia in cash, and 10 trillion dollars in Australia in circulation you can see that nearly everything has some form of interest on it. But soon it won't be nearly everything, it will be everything. So don't give in to the banks keep using cash when ever you can. It's like those idiots can't even click on. Black outs do exist.

                                    • Cashless is easier but having cash in hands is useful too

                                      • Being old School, I like cash in hand and cash in pocket. So, if you run out of digital funny money yet have a major emergency need, you can dive into the Wallet Bank of Personal Security and pay in cash! It would be great if, like me, you're 70 and have some difficulty with computers, mobile payment transfers, and correcting online faults from time to time. So tell your Smart Bank manager what you want as a customer of their branch, and if they fail to deliver, swiftly move on to a bank that treats you as a person.

                                        • I sort of get it. It costs to produce notes and coins. To transport costs money and it needs to be insured for transit. No cash on premises means less chance of robbery which should translate to less insurance for the business plus they don't need to take it to a bank. Plus, the Gumbyment loses GST for cash jobs. Do I like it? Absolutely not. How do you give your kids or grand-kids pocket money?

                                            • I only use my credit card, cash, or gift cards / vouchers, and sometimes PayPal for online stores. Cheques are no longer able to be used in New Zealand, which is a bit of a pain in the backside since a bank cheque was an easy way to pay someone else when dealing with largish amounts of money. I do not have an EFTPOS / ATM / debit card, nor a mobile phone, nor use internet banking.

I grew up with cash, find it easier to keep track of purchases and stick to my budget. I do use my card when I have to,but prefer not to as some items are pending and the true amount in your account my not be visible for a couple of days. I prefer banks with tellers. I like to speak to them when I have queries in regards to my account and like to keep documentation of account transactions to to check my account. This holds the bank to transparency, gives people jobs.

There is a new system being "looked at as a possibility" in New Zealand for a digital currency card that works just like cash and (somehow) still works when the electricity or internet aren't working, or if you do not have a bank account. Cash would still be available as a payment method even if this new card becomes a reality. https://www.rbnz.govt.nz/money-and-cash/digital-cash

There are many reasons why some may not want to accept cash, including being less of a target for criminals by not having cash on the premises or when transporting cash to / from the bank. Shops and businesses can also refuse to accept cash it if is in ridiculous amounts, (for example, trying to pay for a $2000 computer using bags of 5c coins).

In most countries it is not a legal requirement to have to accept cash, nor any of the other various forms of payment. It's up to individual businesses to decide how they accept payments. Can I still pay with cash?Yes, you can use cash to pay unless the business clearly informs you in advance that they don’t accept cash before you start shopping, or receive services from them. https://www.rbnz.govt.nz/education/explainers/what-is-legal-tender

Cash is a necessary evil for when tech fails but when tech fails that badly the bank will be down and you can't withdraw any way (extremely rare). Don't just think old people are the ones not using digital banking and smart phones and want to be cash only as there are many people MUCH younger than me who distrust the system or are paranoid about being spied on or the bank suddenly shutting and they can't get to their cash so they are cash only and they take their pay out of the bank every pay day. The most ridiculous ones are the ones who do have a mobile and state that they use cash because they don't want to be spied on (the phone KNOWS where you are and Google is always proud to give you your stats every month about it, for example). ROFL

I happen to be one of those older people that don't own a smart phone (nor do I want too) and aren't tech savvy. I have to get the younger generation to do it for me since when they show me how I forgotten the next day. And I like the cash in hand method anyway. I reason I feel people are so in dept with credit cards and whatever is it's too easy to swipe a card. It feels like free money to them. Cash in hand...now you are feeling the real cost of it cause you can see what is happening to your money. Also my sister who is older than me (71) got scammed out of $29,000 trying to pay a fake bill using a smartphone. Pushed the wrong button at the wrong time and gave out one too many details. The more you rely on technology, the more vulnerable you become.

WHich they use to fund nefarious things to MAKE THEMSELVES MONEY from our money. THEY should be paying us a fee because we decide to use them...not the other way around. The fractional reserve banking fraud is an absolute joke...printing paper fiat debt, backed by NOTHING AT ALL....loaning it out...at interest...and, then when WE use it...WE devalue it. This is why rich people need to keep making more and more...it's worth LESS AND LESS.

The other big reason to not to stop using Cash is the fees you pay for every transaction when you use a CC, no fees over a period of 1 year = big savings

The world just won't work without cash. It will cost too much, and people will stop buying raffle tickes and putting money in charity tins. The law will have to change. It is illegal not to take cash but our weak governments are doing nothing about it. If we do go cashless I will be taking all my money out of the bank and will be insisting they give me cash. If everybody does that perhaps they will rethink it. Banks are very greedy.

What a brilliant idea—if you’re under 40, have Wi-Fi in your fridge, and think “touch grass” is just a meme. Meanwhile, Grandma’s out here trying to tap her library card on the ATM wondering why it won’t give her £20. The bank says “just use the app,” but she thinks “app” is short for applesauce. And let’s not forget the branch closures—because nothing says “customer service” like replacing friendly tellers with a touchscreen that asks if you want help, then gives you none. At this rate, soon we’ll be paying for bread with crypto and explaining to our nan that "blockchain" isn't a knitting pattern. 🤣

Time to leave the major bank and get with a credit union, where you are a paying member. I use cash and debit. I don't own a credit card. I don't own a "smart"phone...and NEVER will. My branch is in a town 2.5 hours away from me because I used to live there, but I have zero use or need to go to my branch because I can go to any credit union and use their ATM if I need cash at no charge. What most people do not realize is...if the DEMAND is NOT there, they CANNOT implement this. Stop mindlessly "going along" with things. All of you who claim critical thinkers are "conspiracy theorists"...you all need to stop and realize WHERE these ruling elites actually want all this to go. But, if we DO NOT COMPLY...they CANNOT carry these things out...at minimum, we delay them big time. They will TRY to fearmonger us into submission though, so start realizing ALL THAT HAPPENS ON THE "NEWS"...aka Nothing Ever Worth of Seeing...IS ALL PROPAGANDA. Our blind compliance ALLOWS them TO do these things. Remember that. Just like when you vote...that is YOU giving YOUR CONSENT that you are OK with corruption and fraud being committed by "selected" officials. Time to reclaim our brains, folks. World War 3 has been ongoing since the early 1950's...and that is the ALL OUT ASSAULT ON...and FOR...OUR BRAINS!!!!! But, the "news" will keep you held in perpetual anticipation, stuck in suspended animation, waiting for some great "nuclear war" to go down....meanwhile, they wage MINOR wars on us through various different means, but, since it is not what we have been programmed to THINK "war" is...we do not SEE it. Newsflash...these elites have NOWHERE ELSE TO GO. They CANNOT, and WILL NOT, destroy the earth with a nuclear war. The war has been on your MIND...silent weapons for QUIET wars. STOP COMPLYING!!!!! A technological REGRESSION is key to this. Let GO of most tech, because you're LOSING your brain power and ability TO critically think as you rely on tech more and more.

I tend to buy something off my shopping list and ask for cash out and the go back finish the shopping and pay cash. Unfortunately with Woolworths you must cash out a minimum of $200, Coles you can cash out what amount you want or can afford but in both cases you must buy something first. Vouchers can't be used to buy Tobacco products at Coles but can be used at Woolworths for now ... smell very much of Communism ... telling you where and what you can buy with money you have honestly earnt by you own sweat etc etc, takes a long time to accumulate $$$s before you can reap you Rewards.

And, this is EVERY country but 2...North Korea and Iran. Ahhh, and we wonder WHY those 2 are ALWAYS considered "nuke threats", right. Same ones who run the banking scam, are the same ones who own ALL MSM. Not a coincidence. Them bank's should be PAYING US for giving THEM our hard earned money so they can use OUR MONEY to make themselves money, because, all banks are BROKE as can be.

I use cash and will continue to do so. Only use my credit card when buying petrol or on the very rare occasion at the supermarket if I don't have enough cash on me. I use my debit card to get cash out (was out of an ATM, but can now do it at the Post Office which feels much safer).

I have not had a car since 2009. I pay rent and all utilities are included, I have never used a doctor since I was 17 because I am healthy and have learned HOW to be healthy over 20+ years. I don't use cabs or taxi's...I walk, jog, or run. Movies? Really? You would think you would come up with better examples, my friend. The only relevant thing to me is rent....which my friend owns the building I am in and, if I wanted, I could ask to be a building superintendent in EXCHANGE for free rent. But, when I PERSONALLY "exit the 'system'" which I am 95% out of already...I will simply go off into the woods and won't be a a part of this society in the same capacity! Are YOU equipped TO do that? I doubt it...based on those REACTIONARY examples when you got triggered.

I don't think the power company will accept veg out of your garden in payment. I assume you are gainfully employed on a benefit that I pay for. Oh, and the doctor avoidance scheme that you have, beware the diseases that show no symptoms. I have had an off the grid life for the past 3 years, but if you think you can do it without some form of money, you won't last long.

Can you say the same? p.s. You pay for NOBODY's "benefits"...any and ALL benefits are paid by the city a person lives in, the ALL CAPS corporation that is...and they DRAW the funds against said person's ALL CAPS Cestui Que Vie trust account held by The Vatican, confirmed thru the International Bank of Settlements in Switzerland. The city then holds the funds in an account that earns interest, so when they distribute them, they have MADE a lilttle money. Sorry to burst your bubble on that one, my friend. If YOU pay taxes...you are willingly paying into a fraud that literally steals your money, but, basic contract law 101...offer and acceptance. They askl you to pay...and you do...contract accepted, now it is lawful and you are legally bound to it, lol. Any and ALL dis-eases begin with what you put INTO and ONTO your body. I am healthier at 42 than I have ever been in my life. I have a resting heart rate of 50 bpm. I walk, run, jog 6 days a week. I workout 4 days a week. I am virile. Sane. Happy and healthy. If YOU need a doctor, then you are in no way in any control of your life and rely on a fraudster to "treat" you, as they NEVER attack root causes, let alone know them. Kudos on your off the grid life...but, you're online on a survey site...so how "off grid" are you really? True off grid is OFF THE GRID. But, you wouldn't know HOW to survive that, I am sure. Myself, on the other hand...I am prepared with the knowledge and training to do TRUE "off grid" life and will be heading there within 10-15 years.
