Discussion of the Day
What would be some solutions for the current drug and homelessness problems we face worldwide?
Brooke SJan 23, 23
One thing that is quite prevalent and common in the world is drug use and homelessness. Government always talk about having program to help for rehabilitation and housing, but it seldom ever really works. What would be a smarter, more efficient, and realistic way to help deal with these growing issues?

Do not know if illegal drug use (aka street drug use) and homelessness - can be solved. This is a capitalistic, racist, sexist, etc. planet - based on the principle - 'profits over people'. Does that mean we are a sick (mental health issues) society?

Instead of sending billions to Ukraine , help our people first

Public Government housing needs built as more tiny energy efficient apartments rent paid by government. Then in USA you have Medicaid and Lheap energy assistance for electricity and gas and food stamps better then their situation.

Here in Queensland we built a quarantine centre in the country. Put them out there with medical supervision and get them clean. Not talking about the ones with mental issues as this would come under a different requirement but just ones that need to get off drugs and off the street. There is a cost of course but surely it would lesson crime, loss of young lives, etc. Even if it is just 25% successful it is a good start. They have to be removed from the source and of course the people that are running this centre would need to be veted and security has to be strong albeit not as if in a prison. Life jail terms straight up for drug dealers. Not the little guys but the big guys and forfeiture of all the property, goods and cash etc. whether in their name or their families. If the consequences start to outweigh the benefits this just might pull a few of them up. A concerted world wide effort has to be made to eliminate these drug lords and dealers from every country. There also needs to be a sense of pride and belonging put into our children. This division due to race, religion etc. has to stop. I guess all the above is utopic but surely some of it can be implemented. At the moment billions is spent and lost and no progress made. The soft handed approach on our youth is not working.

Most are mental issues. We will never solve this problem. People with mental issues are hard to deal with and solve.

Well I’ll give you some free advice. People are not their mental health issues and don’t need to be handled. They need to be accepted for who they are. Their illness does not define them anymore than a physical illness defines a person. Only 2….

Regardless of what you want to believe, we are all "defined by" and "labeled". And, yes, some mental health issued "need to be handled".

Stigma, labelling and the people who insist on doing it are the only ones who need to be “handled “.

Open up some of the abandoned but safe buildings for temporary shelters.
