BODY MODDING...what do you think?
APBJun 09, 22
Aside from simple things like not eating meat...or only eating vegetables...there is a real growing number of people who are "body modding"....eating really extreme diets...and perhaps more importantly self medicating with various pills and potions that have been cleared as "safe"...but with uncertain or unproven miracle benefits (a bit like man made vitamins for a large part!)...pterpstolbene...blueber ry complexes....Niagen...there are heaps more promising you strong mental health and memory...to slow down your body's ageing process...what is going on here?...would you take any of these?

diets only work for the companies that peddle them.

People should look at the beauty inside themselves. I am on a low carb and low salt diet do to health problems but I love food. We prepare it differently now. I used to say it was against the law for Italians not to eat pasta but now I have to watch everything. I take balance of nature vitamins so The doctors took me off 2 high blood pressure meds which damaged my kidneys. Natural is better than big pharma any day. Love yourself and life gets happier.

What a terrible existence nearly all the pills taste the same. There is nothing greater than a moderate variation of our wonderful natural foods, which gives us pleasure and keeps us healthy. I still love my food

No it all start with loving yourself. People already have enough mental health issues without worrying about their body and ageing. I have already let my hair go its natural grey which people tell me looks great and I am pleased with the way it looks.

Time and time again logic shows us that for MOST people the best way to promote health is to eat a very varied diet consisting largely of basic untainted foods such as fruit and vegetables... Simple. But we're all individuals so you have to see what works for you.

Using commonsense and not going too far with regard to vitamin supplements combined with a balanced diet, regular exercise and, very importantly, a healthy mental attitude are key to one's longevity.

It's your life and your body and if it makes you happy and doesn't harm anyone else what's the problem? Too many people judge the way others live and don't see their own flaws/faults.

Who is not to say the pills and potions don't shorten your life and then one doesn't have to worry about the aging process

If you have a healthy diverse diet you don't need vitamins unless you have a blood test and it shows a deficiency which you can correct and then keep an eye on. Must admit I have never heard the term Body Modding.

I am also taking valerian which aids sleep and anxiety but not daily. I also recently bought some collagen gummies to see if that helps with my hair. Otherwise the best thing to do if you want to say younger for longer is your diet, exercise and environment. It's pretty basic but I'll share what I've read. You want to limit red meat and dairy intake and eat your fruits, veggies, nuts, legumes and wholegrains. The Mediterranean diet is a good example. Exercise should be moderate, they say the high intensity training is good but I like to walk around the lake and yoga. I also use weights. Environment they say can be a factor so depending on where you live can have an effect on mental health. If you live in an area that is mostly concrete and not much green then some indoor plants can help lift your mood.

I have to take calcium and iron due to deficiencies but not every day. I got my iron up and then just take 3 a week and that has kept it right. With people not eating red meat these days iron deficiency is going to be a huge problem if they do not have a balanced diet which let's face it most people don't and do not realise going without meat will deplete the iron levels as it is the best source of iron. I live near the beach and a park right next door and plenty of trees around so lovely environment to live in for me. I kill any indoor plants so keep them in my small front and back gardens.I do not exercise as when I was young I did weights, aerobics, etc. and also played sports which has left me with sore knees, back, hips, feet etc. Not sure if intense training is good for you. Look at all the sportspeople around 40 on. Not travelling well at all. Moderation in exercise, good healthy diet and talk to people about any problems and you should go well.
                                                                        ·

Yeah you can, doesn't take much to get enough vid D if the sun is out. You don't need to eat meat to get iron, there are veggies and legumes that contain iron, some even as much as red meat. Chicken and fish also contain iron which is what we have more of. But even cereal is fortified with iron. If you buy Weetbix look at the iron content in that. 3mg per serve which is 33g. A steak is like 3.5mg per 100g. The side of the Weetbix box says it's 9.1 per 100g. Saying this I also do realise that they say that the iron from meat is better absorbed. As for where you live you are lucky. I also live near a big lake and plenty of trees now, my previous apartment we lived in a built up ugly concrete area and not nice parks to visit, it was miserable. I'm not great with plants but the 2 indoor ones I do have are going alright, not dead yet :D I used to think that too but there have been recent studies now saying these high intensity ones are good for you now. They are always changing their mind. But I do prefer slower paced ones like a brisk walk and yoga. I think it should be up to the person but any form of exercise that gets you up and moving is good in my opinion. I'm sorry you have many sore parts which may stop you for doing certain things. Surely there must be some exercises to help relieve that soreness :(

Yes red meat is better for absorption. I know other goods have iron but a lot of people do not follow a good diet and therefore eat only vegetables of sorts and miss out on all the goodies. I do my best to do the right thing but even my diet is questionable at times.

Obviously I don't know what is wrong but I was reading that a certain type of collagen can help with joint pain. Hopefully the osteopath will be able to give some good suggestions :) I think that diet for a lot of people can be a difficult thing. I'm in the same boat but we do sometimes have processed foods and chocolates and such even if we know it's not the best. I think as long as you are aware and do the right thing most of the time it should be alright.

A $100 a packet I would rather age disgracefully! I have gone onto rolled oats for breakfast during these cold winter months and have gone from being hungry the whole day to only eating basically because I have to. I had forgotten the effect that porridge has. Rolled eats would be just about the cheapest food that one could buy and one of the healthiest. So definitely no.

Oh and one kiwifruit or large orange daily so I don't get scurvy. Better off just having quality food - better for you and often the good stuff is absorbed better (more bioavailable) in it's natural source. I read an article from a registered dietitian who said buying expensive protein powders is a waste of money and instead you can eat/drink milk powder to do the same thing as it's way cheaper and food quality control is much more stricter than supplements quality control standards so with food you know what you're eating.

In the 40's 50's and early 60's we all ate a well balanced diet. This was because of food rationing, so you ate what you could grow and whatever you could get on the ration book. If you look back at the photo's of that era you will see everyone looked healthy, very, very few were overweight. I can't see what's wrong with eating a balanced diet and exercising without all the garbage put out there by people wanting to make money.

My body does not absorb some nutrients at all well, so despite my diet being 'sufficient' for a healthy person, I have to actually substitute with vitamin pills to keep my levels of certain vitamins/nutrients where they should be. I agree there is definitely a lot of 'garbage' out there but there are also some very helpful products that give some of us the extra help we need, because our bodies don't work well enough to do that for us. I love my healthy diet but supplements are very sadly a necessity for me to feel well and to feel energised. :(

Two, if your goal is to improve your physical appearance - see a certified, license, register dietitian/nutrition (you are what you eat) Bon Appetit :-)). Third, have a familiar discourse with a General Practitioner (MD) about exercising - based on your age to improve your physical appearance. Four, when it comes to your mental health - deal with a psychologist or psychiatrist. Last, I have learned it is an ongoing struggle to like who you are based strictly on your physical appearance!!!!

One person is fat and bald but believes he/she is beautiful and does not care how he/she looks.. Megalomania you would say! The other person is very pretty/handsome but always tries to improve something spending too much of the available resource. Inferiority Complex you would say! If a person is healthy then what's the profit from those supplements and diets? Do I not understand something here?
