Banning plastic

We know that plastic is bad for the environment and that is why we pay council rates for recycling, now councils introduced cash for recycled items (instead of having the bin chicken we now have bums looking for recyclable items in our bins) my question is why we have to be penalised for plastic waste if we are already paying the council rates for the so-called recycling

    The government should be telling all companies to stop putting their products in plastic. Its a joke, we cant put our plastic bags into the supermarket plastics recycling bin. I really hate putting my plastic waste in the landfill rubbish bin.

        I recycle my plastic but I reuse my glass jars for making jams etc.

          I collect and return plastic, glass and cardboard containers - the extra money comes in handy. However I refrain from going through council park bins etc like some people do. That's gross.

            My neighbours leave out their recycles for me. I get around $50 every 2 weeks from it. Cash. Not those return and earn machines with morons. Stopped using them years ago. Don't mind bin chickens as long as they leave bins in state they were found. I do laugh when they are at my bins though, as I already have them. NO addiction here, just cash my son.

              In Australia they offer 10c back on cans of soft drink. Idk if NZ has it. You would have to check.

              There are NSW service centres that do cash. Mine is a servo with centre out the back. I had to count with the lady first few times, now she trusts me to pre count. I bring bottles in a bag and put them in their wheely bins and the cans/plastics they provide the large clear bags. Try google NZ for such a centre, can only try.

            I think it's a good move. Anything that encourages less plastic waste is a good idea. As for the scavengers you could put your bin out right before the garbage truck is due - that's what I do but not because of scavengers but because I hate having to clean up rubbish after dogs or cats have got to it. To be honest I'd prefer the bums who want to recycle over feral critters because one creates a mess and the other cleans it up but each to their own I suppose.

              Not sure what a chicken bin is...The "bums" will probably sort out plastic waste and make some money out of it...I hope that you never become one (but you might be)....I'm not sure about what the last bit is about entirely

                It definitely works here in Sydney. After the plastic and glass recycling program has been rolled out across NSW there is visually less bottles, cans etc. junk on the streets. Good move!

                I'll put a big 'P' on the bin and then paint a blue line down the harbour bridge leading right to it so dear old Pete can't miss it.... (Images of a monkey on a monocycle crowding my brain space at the moment) Should I include a box of Frontline in his Christmas hamper to deal with the fleas perhaps... Nothing worse than a grumpy flea infested monkey on a monocycle showing off on the harbour bridge at 3am...

                A bear ,a duck and a handsome dog walked into a bar .. A very British bar .You know ,one with a nice rambling courtyard and no bin chickens ... The duck took a few pecks at the counter and asked " is the bar tender here?" The bear sighed then proceeded to order and the pub owner asked so why the big pause? .The dog meanwhile, on his very best behaviour enjoyed a full ploughman's lunch with Martini's.shaken not stirred. The bar man said wow we don't see that in here often. The dog replied well at these prices, I'm not surprised!
