Why do you do online surveys?

Considering that in Australia Minimum wage is $20-33 per hour and online surveys only pay an average of $2 to $5 per hour; why do we bother doing them?
I personally do them because I am a disability pensioner who is financially struggling to survive on just $40 a fortnight after paying my rent, electricity, gas, water, phone, and internet bills plus funeral insurance.
Thank goodness my local council gives me meals on wheels FREE of charge 7 days a week
Due to the high number of people in need I have a large vegetable garden which I use to grow fresh vegetables to help people in need through a local charity at my own costs.
Therefore, I basically do online surveys to cover the costs of running that vegetable garden PLUS vet bills and the occasional extra items I need to survive.

  • Same as you Edward re needing any money possible to supplement a Carers benefit- which is definitely below minimum wage. Anything to go towards petrol which is a horrendous price.

    • I do not know about your area but you can get food and petrol vouchers from CatholicCare and food vouchers from Salvation Army

  • I'm doing them because I'm not working at the moment. I resigned from my job because I'm moving areas. It's keeping me occupied untill I find a new job. Thanks to another lockdown moving has been delayed. I enjoy doing them. I love the games and trivia.

    • Good to give ones input and get free alcohol doing it.

      • Because I like holding my breath and crossing my fingers, hoping to be given points after spending ridiculous amounts of time on surveys! But seriously I have managed to buy food and gifts out of the vouchers. Good for you and your charitable work!

        • I do it for fun mainly. Also play some of the games. Not much reward but get a voucher which I usually use for groceries that I would not normally buy. Have the time as I am a pensioner.

          • I do it just for fun

            • Just spend time doing something. If you get a gift card for that ... well then ... why not?

              • Extra money, can pay a bill or two with surveys or can get some household goods without paying money by using vouchers. It's not a great hourly rate as you say but it's not a big deal if I'm at home and can just do 10 mins here and there at various times during the day and have the radio or a podcast on in the background
