LIVING SKILLS

Do you think this should be a subject taught in high school for teenagers to help them cope and understand life outside of home such as topics on Mental Health, Emotional Coping, Domestic Violence, Respect for others, etc.
I personally found it extremely hard in being unprepared for what lay ahead in my life as a adult, and how to cope with any of it.
Some children are not raised in a healthy environment at home and are so unprepared for life s issues that many of us face. I d like to see it as part of education in school what are others thoughts on this?

I don't think school's would include these but expect family or society to do so. NZ has tv ads about some of these topics so they aren't being swept under the carpet. I did home economics at school, which they need to bring back (how to cook, sew, etc). Our lad was given a 360 degree foldable laptop, he sussed that out within half an hour, yet I'm on my seventh time showing him how to use the bloody washing machine!

The quantity of what needs to be learnt is always increasing...I cannot see that there is any way that a child going to school now could possibly be expected to learn more than I was taught in the 1960's...it was full on...and yet there is now so much more to learn...I'm still teaching myself...I might be out of touch but Schools (if they are any good) should be about knowledge...what has happened...how to do things, how to think and create....I cannot see how we can cram in life skills as well...something else is going to be left out....sorry!

Hi Andrew! I honestly think education was best before the 90's. Facts, unlike nowadays. You climbed trees, fell off, learnt how 'not to climb trees' lol, now it's banned in schools. The world has gone PC mad. The issues raised are more societal than for schools. Learning is never ending :)

You learn by your mistakes (and hopefully never repeat them again). Kids need to learn life skills by simply living ...... and finding their own way, not by some newbie 'teacher' who does not have much of a clue .........
