I used to love watching the Academy Awards and see people realising their dreams and winning awards for their creative work. But the Oscars isn t what it once was. Actors have become political puppets. No one cares what they think about politics. They should stick to what they do best -- acting!
Linda C
The glamour has gone and now mostly just trashy outfits and who can show more leg or boobs. No class in a lot of their speeches either. It sometimes feels like the ones that win should not even have been nominated and the better actors have been overlooked due to the money put behind the movie or the actors themselves. It all seems a bit rigged to me these days and I no longer watch it.

I fail to see why middle-aged first time mothers are still stigmatised and shamed. I mean lots of women are having children later in life now. I was born to parents in their 40s and 50s and it hasn't done me any harm. I fail to see the issue. And this argument that the older parent may not live long enough to see their child grow up is ludicrous. Disease, addiction, tragedy and dysfunction can strike at any time in life. One can die at any age. Leave these poor women...
Imperia S
Good on these women who are taking the chance, there is nothing so beautiful than to hold a newborn in your arms at any age, besides I find that you seem to have more love and time for a child as one grows older and is more responsible, My Mum had 4 of us, and at 44 she told us that we are going to have 2 more, I was 18 at the time and all I could think is, EVERY ONE is going to think they are mine, Shock Horror, but it was amazing how my friends and my brothers came together, knitting baby clothes and the boys making the cradle with Dad, Sadly we lost one sister and the other is now 50 herself, 12 years older than my oldest, Mum is 94, sadly Dad Passed 17 years ago, But Mum Always Said That having my sister kept her young and the family together

The most valuable lessons I've learnt were after I left school and university. Lessons about money. Lessons about entrepreneurship. Lessons about success and savings and investment. All these useless things they teach in the classroom that nobody ever uses. Education departments throughout the world need to step up
Christina D
My school did teach us about saving, budgeting, investment options, saving for retirement and about having a rainy day fund and an "oh crap" (emergency) fund. My parents taught us about shopping on a budget, cooking on a budget, layby's and HP's etc

This is a simple and tasty Nepali-style breakfast made with spiced potatoes, flattened rice, boiled egg, and cucumber. First, boil and peel two medium potatoes, then cut them into small pieces. Heat a spoon of oil in a pan, add cumin seeds, and let them crackle. Add a little turmeric, chili powder, and salt, then mix in the boiled potatoes. Stir well and cook for a few minutes until the spices blend nicely. Garnish with chopped cilantro. On a plate, serve a handful of...

Receiving 2 points compensation is such an insult when getting booted out of a survey - there should be 40 points minimum and even with surveys at around 1500 if you don't qualify 4 points thats an insult they she compensation should be increased to at least 250 points or a quarter of them. Man Rewardia need to stop being so stingy The best way to get your appoint across is message them and say next time you people send me a survey and it boots me out half way...

Do you keep your Christmas and birthday cards or do you put them in the rubbish when you have read them, like I do?
Missy Wyld
With my mum in law passing a few weeks ago, the family had the unenviable task of going through her unit to get it ready for sale, as it was in an aged care village.
She kept cards, and the grandkids were going through them, (they are all adults), and found so many from/to their dear 'Pa' that they had sent many years back when they were little (he passed in 1988), and the kids were thrilled to see them & took them home for themselves as keepsakes.
I guess everyone is different, not everyone is sentimental. I feel it's disrespectful to throw them out.

WOW! This is a machine! But I see it's $3759 at Harvey Norman (which means it's the same price everywhere). What they won't advertise is the fact that they won't let you walk out of the store until you buy a 2-year extended warranty - add $150.
Choice Magazine recently warned that this is a scam. Consumers are protected by laws. Once you buy the product or service, the promise becomes a right that can be enforced under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL). Warranties are separate from your automatic consumer guarantees, which apply regardless of any warranty's suppliers sell or
give to you. Basically, you will pay for warranty even though you are protected by law.
Your PC comes with a manufacturer's warranty of 12 months. You are also protected by law. You don't need to buy an extended warranty.

I've planned a surprise party for her 50th birthday, and it went down well with 50 people attending, and it was at several places - and the big one was where I arranged for a friend she hasn't seen for 25 years, and she was surprised. Let's say it was you planning a surprise party for a friend, family member etc. what kind of party would you plan and what kind of food would you have? I am very keen to hear some ideas and views on this?
Elvira D 70287
I have planned a surprise party for my husband's 40th, never in my life attempted to do such a thing, so one day the thought came to my head and I spoke to my mother-in-law and she supported me in my decision, I choose a restaurant in Moonee Ponds. Just had mainly family and a few of my hubbies friends. it was a nice group of about 30 people. I had organized the date/time venue menu /birthday cake . All I told my husband was that on the day we were going out for dinner for his birthday although I didn't want him to see where we were going, I got him into the car. Blindfolded him and held on to his hand and guided him while walking, when I got him inside the venue all the family gathered ready to greet him once i took the blindfold off him he got the biggest and most unexpected shock of his life. My husband could not believe how I could keep such a secret, because I am one who gets exciteded .

Do you think RTA will start to design a better traffic lights working system? When people drive somewhere, it is always a disaster to get out of the suburban area. I think this is because the lights system works in the old way, like it was ten years ago. You probably experienced the situation when you are in the traffic line, and the light is green for only 2-3 seconds. What do you think about it?
Larry S 382961
I have this problem only on weekends. A set of lights run very phase time slow. I have rung the traffic control people and get told. Yes sure is a problem so I will tweak the phase to clear it. Nothing gets done. Even have gone online to report it and nothing done.

Only spend what you have to. People buy things that are not needed, so their money disappears before their eyes. There are many ways to save, some better than others, so use your imagination. I had plans to go to Ukraine this year but that has been put on hold for now.

I heard that in Asia, if a bird poos on your head it is lucky.. So I figured that if birds were lucky then having a bear poo on your head would be super lucky. Next time the koala came around I went and stood under the tree watching him, but I think he must have been constipated, so I gave up in the end and decided to continue being my old unlucky self for a bit longer..

I just opened the cupboard and there they were. After removing everything from that shelf (there is always one shelf that they seem drawn to) and getting rid of as many as I could, I clean the shelf, shut the door. 2 minutes later, open the door, and the ones I misses are gathering in a corner, l swear they are laughing at me! Would you choose a name for your child (or, if asked to name another's child) simply because it is popular or trendy?
Rifat H
I think a person's name is a lot like the name of a book. The name should be the most fitting in describing the person that grows and transforms themselves into : using their name as though it was a guide. If you know what I mean ;-) A classic poem which encourages reading and also reminds me of people's names titled 'Open a Book'.
Open a book
And you will find,
People and places of every kind,
Open a book
And you can be,
Anything you want to be;
Open a book
And I will too,
You'll read to me,
And I'll read to you.

We seem to be going through another period where very old and antique furniture can be bought for very little...nobody wants it...when I was redoing a bathroom...it was MUCH cheaper for me to buy a solid timber dresser that was over 100 years old..and convert it to being a sink unit...than buy a crappy wood fiber unit from Bunnings ... what the new owner got was something very special ... but something else had to go ... to make it ... maybe in a hundred years time...

gosh Andrew 1, how could you use /convert such a beautiful piece of furniture as a bathroom cupboard, My brother is an antique restorer/french polisher, he works for several dealers and auctioneers to restore this type of furniture and would be crying if he saw and hear what you did to it, that would be worth a fortune, and don't worry I won't tell him LOL, I love antiques

An update to my earlier post! Recklessly (Or should that be "Wreck".....) I succumbed to DIY temptation again not long after writing it, after all what harm could another small bookcase do? Duly went online to find a matching one, only available in White now, that's OK, I have no colour bias, perfect harmony with the Black one..... Arrived on my doorstep this morning, great! Cold day, nothing like a bit of DIY on a cold winter's day to get the blood pumping, as long as I don't get any one the carpet. Lifted the box up...TRIED to lift the box up....it slowly dawned on me that this "Thing" was a whole heap bigger & heavier than the other one. Dragged it inside & propped it up against the dining table, where it remains. I'll get onto it tomorrow, maybe, after I've moved the furniture. It wont fit where I'd planned.
My biggest dilemma though is they sent me one worth $50 not the one I paid $20 for, what should I do?!!!!

Does anyone really trust crytocurrencies? I'm not so sure about them. I don't know, maybe, they will be more secure in the future. I've heard that the Dark Web prefers them, which doesn't help their case much, if, at all.
M 312029
Cryptocurrency and regular currency will co-exist in the future.
Cryptocurrency, and owning your own crypto-wallet means you become your own bank. This is both a good thing and a bad thing.
While it is new technology, there are a lot of scammers looking to exploit those that are unfamiliar with it, and there are a lot of new 'cryptocurrencies' which can be used as "ponzi schemes"/Pump and Dumps"/"Rug pulls".
I think this is a great video that actually helps explain the concepts of Cryptography/Cryptocurrency. (I hope im allowed to post this) https://youtu.be/bBC-nXj3Ng4
Moving forward, I believe things like crypto can be very good for the world, and can improve trust in things like Elections, contracts and other legal issues.
But, it still has a long way to come before real world adoption.

My son was in a car accident where he was driving straight on a main road. The second car pulled out of a parking lot in front of him. No one was given a ticket. My insurance company stated that no ticket means both parties were at fault. Is this a true statement?
Morton B
Based on law in NZ you son had right of way, the other car was pulling out onto a carriageway and must give way or stop until way is clear. Drivers can exchange details of Name Address/contact phone number, Registration No and name of Insurance Co. If requested by other driver you must disclose this info and he must reciprocate as required under the Land Transport Act. I would also make a Police report to get it documented if police didnt attend accident esp if he refuses to supply required details. Here getting a ticket is not a requirement for Insurance Company

If we can get 100% support from all citizens in following government regulations, we can defeat this terrible virus. But it needs 100% NOT 99% or less. The ball is now in our court. The pathway to recovery is there and it is achievable. Stay strong and committed to following all government directives and we will surely win.

Do you think families will be able to get together this year for Easter?
APB
Its funny, when we all discuss Christmas...there are loads of people who get all worked and upset about it being all about Christ, and people have forgotten the true meaning etc.....Yet when we get to Easter ...another Pagan festival that the Christians stole from it's true owners...Everyone is talking about hot cross buns, chocolate eggs and bunnies...I guess the Christians couldn't come up with anything better.....

Not that long ago... I was just browsing around on the internet, and I came across a penfriend-club. I was surprised! I thought penfriend clubs died out due to the popularity of the internet. It's good that they still exist! Have you ever had a penfriend? Do you currently have one that you write to?
EILEEN W 310556
As a lonely teen in the UK back in the 50s and 60s I had penpals all over the world. We exchanged postcards, stamps, learnt a bit about languages and other cultures. How exciting it was to receive mail from France, Japan, USA, Italy, Norway, Jugoslavia, the Azores etc. I studied languages at School and Uni and hitchhiked around Europe meeting and mixing wonderful people including my future husband. Now Facebook has replaced letter writing and I love hearing from my many International friends every day.

When do children reach the status of having had enough experience of the world to try to tell their parents how to live their lives?
Anneliese
Lessons and learning can go both ways. You teach them things and likewise they can teach you things. Your talking about bossing someone, there should be respect from both sides. Discipline is a different thing, it's like learning what's right and wrong. However gaining experience and learning is something you will always do.

Do you think witchcraft is just hippie-dippy nonsense or the real thing? I'm still unsure. I've read about people who claim to be witches but I've never tried a spell or anything. Have you?

Mine usually accumulates in my coat pockets and goes towards a nice bottle of wine. Or I keep it and give it to buskers. How about you?
EILEEN W 310556
I save up all my change at the end of the week and it goes into a special bank account for my little volunteer school in a very poor Balinese Village for children whose parents cannot afford the Government school fees. I began it as a kindergarten and it has been going now for 8 years, helped by my fundraising and donations from friends. Whenever I go over to take books, clothing, soccer boots etc., my accumulated bank deposits help pay the school bills. It is run by my Balinese friends who take no money themselves so the children can get a basic education. It is amazing how change does make such a difference to children who have nothing, not even a toy of their own. Covid has meant I cannot get over there since January and my tiny school has closed, waiting until I can get back with what I have saved.

Why are people so rude on the roads these days, before people used to give way to other people out of being polite. Now days people don't let anybody in, if you try to change lanes, people speed up so you can't If you park at the supermarket car park, once you have finished your shopping, and want to reverse out of your spot, no-one will stop to let you out, I've even had someone go around me, and I was half way out. What is wrong with people these days?
Elizabeth T 396096
What do you mean these days? I have witnessed this behaviour for decades BUT it does seem to get worse over time.

Do you believe healthcare should be free? Or do you think the individual should have to fund it themselves? If so, what are the reasons for your stance?
Disie
Totally agree healthcare should be free worldwide. It would actually cut the cost of medications, surgeries etc. People with no health cover are doomed from the start unless they're on a 5 figure salary

I know the company has gone global and gets good reviews But having ingredients delivered, then having to cook it myself -- doesn't whet my appetite.

I use Hello Fresh 3 days of the week. My daughter uses it for 5 days. Nothing to do with laziness-daughter works full time and finds it great to have all the ingredients ready. I started during the Lockdown -don't have to go to the shops as often. We all enjoy the food -we have our own vegetable garden and we use them for our other meals.

What I mean is . . . those games like Cookie Hangman and Solitaire and others . . . have a game like that in the play and earn section called Retro Music Quiz Game where you can...

Hi all. I'm finding more and more surveys screen out and/or are completely irrelevant (the 'big corporate tech' ones for instance). And few pay well for the time spent. I enjoy pottering away on a few of the games while having a break or watching average TV etc, but some seem to take a lot of time for very few poiints. What are the ones that are best for good points in the least time? Seems to me that some of the word games are OK, but maybe I'm just good at...

When you have been with Rewardia for as long as I have, the wod games, especially Cookie Hangman, i feel is the way to go. I have been through them so many times previously so I just whip through them.

I was looking for a phone number to locate a store. I first tried the Yellow Pages, but it said the number was disconnected. So I went online to find the number on my computer, and instead I was connected to an AI service. It asked me to pay $1, either through my credit card or BPAY, before it would give me the number. The $1 was supposedly refundable, but I refused, as you always hear warnings about giving out bank details online. Even if it is refundable, how...

Luna 1709686 SA
These days I get screened out alot. Either I start answering questions, then they say sorry you've been screened out. Or i actually get to the end of the survey and it says either (error) ( page not found) or screened out after im do e answering all the questions. That makes me angry because ive just wasted time in doing them. Sometimes I get 2pts as a compensation, but mostly not. That's why I hardly get points together. BS

Once a week, I take a little extra time to take a little extra time to make a full dinner. I grilled chicken with salt, pepper, and a bit of garlic for flavor. Alongside, I cooked sausage until golden and also grilled some pineapple rings and eggplant slices, they give a nice smoky and sweet taste. For the sauce, I made a creamy tomato base with butter, and spices, then simmered it till smooth. I also made a small side of orange salad mixed with chili flakes and a for a spicy,...

Is it wrong to donkey or informal vote if you don't like any candidates ... should you just vote for the 'best of a bad lot' ?
Elizabeth T 396096
If you don't vote, then you don't have a right to complain if the worst of the lot gets in. This is not an issue in Australia as voting is mandatory and if you don't vote, you get fined.

Are you kidding ..it's 💯 % Male for me! I'd be the apple of my mother's eye ..live a happily hapless existence with the 'fairies' cleaning up after me . If I ended up with a great job I would be praised and paid higher than any female I worked with..

Do you think it's deliberate when they time you out of surveys once you have answered all the questions? That way they don't have go give you points. I've completed many and then they say I don't qualify of timed out and when you question where the points are, only to be told it's a 3rd party so we can't confirm you completed the survey

Year to year, I've learned so much from my few plants (veggies and ornamentals) in Zone 5, but it's such a delight to see things grow. Never met a weed nor Japanese beetle I liked, but even they too have functions. Some crops yield good harvest each year while others need me trying differently or watching the weather for what's possible. How do you fare gardening wherever you are?
Andrew C 287196
Gardening affordable?!? The prices in the gardening shops are just as bad as everywhere else. 🙁
The last affordable activity is probably simply walking, and even then shoes cost a fortune and don't seem to last as long as they used to.

I just tried to redeem some points from another survey website and they've changed the process yet again. A while back they changed the redeeming process to include phone code (either a text message or a robo-voice call) and now they insanely require you to take a photo of yourself holding your drivers license or ID, which they store on a "secure server" (yeah, right)!! If you don't, you can't redeem any points. I already had to close an account with a different survey site a...
Holly Cat
My neighbor had a site that requested a driver's license and selfie. I was on the same site and never had that request. He sent the survey site an email indicating he was uncomfortable to do that and if there's another way he could confirm his identity, so they actually responded and indicated they would have to send him a check the first time, to be deposited into his bank when he receives it. He agreed and did receive the check and cashed it, and ever since he's had no issues with redeeming his points. I guess what I'm trying to say is email the survey site letting them know you're uncomfortable and see if another solution is offered. I'd hate to see you not be able to redeem your points.

All I ve noticed is an increase in commercials getting you to invest in real gold. IE .buying bricks and keeping them under your bed? It might be that gold is a good investment for some, but it's not the right move for everyone. As an only child raised by my grandmother, I never felt the strong connection that others feel with brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles and parents. When we immigrated 3 years ago, I did not feel an ounce of worry or longing to go back to my country of birth. I've never felt homesick at all. Is this normal at all? Has anyone else felt the same way?
Janice S 76330
I was born in UK. My parents chose a different religion to their familes, and most of both families turned against my parents. Because of that rift I grew up knowing who my grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins were, but not having a very close bond with them. In 1971 my father announced that we were emigrating to Australia. Before we left UK we were told that there was a house ready for us, and jobs for my father and myself. We arrived in "the land of sunshine" in June on a very wet, cold, windy day, there was also no house or jobs, so we had to live in the Pennington Hostel and look for work. That was the only time I felt homesick. As our circumstances improved we were glad we had come. In 2006 I made my first trip back to UK for a 7 week holiday, but then I was happy to return home to Australia, for me 'home' is where my immediate family are.

Today I received notification that my TXT messages are "end-to-end encryption". When I learn more, this mean that noone including Google and third parties can read those messages send it from my phone. So does it mean until today they could? I doubt our text messages from our cell phone are private! I don't understand how anyone else apart from sender and receiver can read it. I am in shock. Did you know that?

Some workplaces offer one lot of sick leave. In New Zealand it's 10 days, after 6 months in the workplace. Some offer dependant leave aswell, ie 10 personal, 10 dependant.
