I have found that it doesn't matter where you live as long as you are happy and at ease with yourself. Before I met the good lady I used to skip from town to town as if chasing a dream, never content with myself, looking for something I could never find. Then I met a lady that changed all that, and the town, or the people, doesn't seem to matter anymore. I found that happiness comes from within and the world at large doesn't matter that much.

I think that we as a society have become more self centred and poverty and grief, if we don't actually SEE it, becomes "out of sight and out of mind". We have been conditioned over the past 20 months or so to fear one another because we might "catch" something and because of this fear for our own health and our family's health we don't go up to someone and ask them if they're OK or if there's something we can do for them preferring to do, as I believe one of the Health Officials for government stated "don't stop and talk to anyone, just do what you have to and go home", something I thought was atrocious at the time and still do. If we lose our humanity then who cares if we get sick or not! Our isolation has not only caused the suicide and raging mental health crisis we now have in our country and around the world but a pandemic of loneliness. More people, not less, will be mourning this Christmas and, for them, I pray that Christmas passes quickly. We all have a choice to make as to whether we shut the curtains and keep out the world or do we contribute in whatever way is possible for us and help at least one human being today? Choice is ours!

I think there has to be a balance. Teaching is hard I know as some friends and my mum taught. My mum would make learning fun and exciting, wore costumes to make the children laugh. She would read in funny voices and make games up. Maths is a hard subject and not a favourite for me and I also think for a lot of people. We have too many gadgets these days so we aren't using our brains and knowledge because gadgets do it for us. Give a child google and they can answer any question you ask, ask them to use their imagination and come up with some thing unique and they are stuck. Spelling is another problem and we have touched on this subject before, how can we teach children when their parents have called them some weird misspelt name no one can even pronounce let alone spell either.

I am in my 70's and we had it back when I was a teen. I started work at just turned 15 and I paid for my clothing, transport, board, health care etc. At 21 if you were not married you were being talked about as being left on the shelf. Always been pressure put on everyone but the trick is to ignore the pressure and live your life as best you can with a good conscience, respect for family and yourself and never let friends influence you in ways that are not healthy. These days I think people should put their phones down and start talking to people. Influencers as they are called are just wanna be's who really do not know much anyway but seem to get a following and many become quite rich because of this so called fame. It used to be called keeping up with the Jones's back in my day and that was something I never aspired to. I still don't. There will always be someone prettier, have a better figure, be taller, have a better car, house, job etc. I guess you have to learn to be satisfied with what you have and improve it if you wish by common sense approaches.

I honestly thought this was already happening. We are eventually going to run out of space for graves in our cemeteries, as interesting as it is seeing the historical graves from over 100 years ago it may come down to those sites needing to be reused... More and more people seem to be opting for cremation nowadays however, so maybe it won't be as big an issue as predicted... Cemeteries may well become more for those that are religiously inclined. I know all my family are wanting to be cremated, personally I like the idea of those environmental burial pods where you go in the ground and return to the earth; plant a tree on top of me and I will be happy :)

Yes and two years later am still waiting to see any of it. They have since become non friends over a different incident and in the time since we have also found out they didn't use the money for the emergency medical treatment they said it was for but they did at least enjoy a night at the casino on us. Yes, I think the customer service definitely has declined when I tried to get hold of Vodafone to sort out some problems. I was put on hold every time when I called its call centre and I had to wait for 45 minutes on one stage. They seem to enjoy transferring me to different departments and promising the next department will help me. I ended up having to speak to 4 different people in one occasion and I was told different stories by those 4 people. There are no email addresses to contact Vodafone. I could only use the online virtual robot option and eventually it still requested me to call the same toll free phone number that I could never get help with. The problems were never solved and I have given up.

I've done it. And if you truly love people and want to help someone who isn't old enough to speak up for themselves, I recommend you do it as well. I grew up in a home where my parents nearly always had 1-3 foster children sharing our lives. We learned as children that fosters come and go, but we were able to adopt 2 of the boys. They are my brothers through and through. The girls that I fostered were being abused, both 16 years old. One was being beaten regularly by her mother and stabbed once, the other was being raped by her mother's live-in boyfriend. The time with them was only a few months each but it was enough to let them know there are good people in the world and both changed into good people themselves. One has a lovely family and the other is a veterinary technician. Both are happy:) I very highly recommend fostering if you honestly feel your heart wanting to help. You don't get much financially, but you get loads in return emotionally. As much as you know they will most likely be leaving your home at some point, each and every one of them stay in your heart forever. You love with all purity of intentions and build them up and show them good in their world. You will make a positive difference for each child.

It's the same here in Australia too. There is a closed down school near us with a house all boarded up. Yet there are people screaming out for some where to live, homelessness has gone through the roof. It's just a waste and because no one is using the school it is going down hill at a great rate of knots. There's even a tennis court, why couldn't some government department turn the old school into some accommodation for the needy even if it is only a temporary fix. At least it would be being used again instead of rotting away before our eyes. The owners of any run down building or premises should be made to clean them up. My parents had a vacant block in Brisbane and Dad used to get letters from the council to clean it up and people used to dump stuff on it. I remember helping them clean it up and I fell over some tyres that some body had dumped there. They ended up selling the land because they received a good offer on it and it then saved them from having to maintain it too. So where is the fairness letting other people get away with not maintaining their properties? I guess letters don't get passed on to the owners but after a certain amount of time has lapsed surely there is more they can do.

I would not hesitate in calling. During Covid and I might add I am in my 70's I had people come right up to me talking then tell me they had Covid. I keep away from people with colds, etc. as I am not a healthy person. So why would I not ring and tell a friend I am unwell and to make it another day when I am better. It's a common courtesy.

We moved to a rural property - a year ago tomorrow, actually - and since then I have grown potatoes, kumara (sweet potatoes for those outside NZ), NZ yams, carrots, cauli, broccoli, capsicums, corn, onions (red and brown), spring onions, pumpkins, beans, snowpeas (mange tout), leeks, cabbages (red and savoy), spinach, silverbeet, swede, daikon radish, beetroot, garlic, rhubarb, courgettes (zucchini), several varieties of tomatoes and herbs and attempted eggplant (aubergine) but was unsuccessful with those as I planted them too late in the season. We have also harvested feijoas, lemons, limes, mandarins and peaches from trees that were already established on the property. We also have chickens for eggs. I have made several batches of pasta sauce, tomato relish, peach jam, onion marmalade and feijoa chutney. I also make my own Irish soda bread, naan bread and focaccia. We are loving the flavours of fruit and veges fresh from the garden and are looking to add more gardens so we can grow more produce.

As much as MSM won't talk about it, there IS going to be a global famine and even now it has begun in African and some poorer Middle Eastern countries too. There is simply NOT going to be enough food to feed everyone and with a deficit in supply only one thing is certain and that is that prices will continue to rise in ways that we who have grown up over the last 50 years have never conceived of! Farmers are being told NOT to grow food or they have seen prices for fertilisers go up so high, if available at all, that it isn't worth planting crops but taking the insurance money for a lost crop instead. The "environment" has become the reason for the slaughter of millions of additional animals which would not have ended up on our plates this year or next because the "Nitrogen Minister" of a country has stated that the animals have to go so that "Mother Earth" is saved from the ravages of sheep and cows! Crops are failing due to inclement weather either drowning the plants or drought drying them out. Water is and will continue to be restricted for farming and even the growing of rice, a stable food item on the menu of billions of people all around our planet isn't forgotten by the architects of this intentional disaster. There IS a war on food and if you and your loved ones WANT to eat in the years to come you MUST make ready now before supply slows and rationing becomes widespread. It sounds science fiction or like a novel but we are ALL going to go through times we simply can't begin now to imagine in our near future! Fill up that pantry now, buy as many Mason jars as you can find and fill them, get kilos of salt as it's a valuable commodity and plant a garden with non GMO seeds! All the best to you all.

Experienced all the big quakes in Christchurch 2010/2011. The 7.1M/depth 10km in 2010 was at 430am. I woke instantly and knew - I genuinely thought the house was collapsing so ran outside although that was hard to do. I thought my heart would explode it was beating so fast. I left the doors open overnight for a month after that. The 6.3M and 6.1M /depth 5km earthquakes that killed nearly 200 people in 2011 was mind-blowing in its violence- you were glued to the spot by the gravitational forces. I was in the kitchen at work and clung desperately to a doorway. The noise was totally deafening. It was just random luck if you happened to be in a structurally safe building or not, whether you were safe, injured or killed, how damaged or liveable your home was. The shallower the earthquake, the worse the effects. After months of aftershocks (had about 10000), I naturally only took direct Drop-Cover-Hold action for quakes longer than 5 seconds and over about M4.5. I started hyperventilating at the occasional bigger ones only several years later. I only ever had nightmares about tsunamis and not earthquakes- go figure. When my children were pre-teens my husband was very often away, often for months at a time with the RAN so I ruled my home with an iron rod. If I hadn't my life would have been hell. They were children and had rules and rarely needed to be punished. There was no acting up or swearing, they were allowed out to play but had a time that they had to be home. I really didn't ever have a problem with any of them and they were church goers. They are all married now with children of their own, they were never in any trouble, didn't do drugs and were not drinkers. They also stayed at home until they married which was late in their 20"s. My mother always said I had turned my sons into sooks but their wives tell me a did a brilliant job with them. Because dad was usually not here my boys were quite close to me and were always very helpful to their mum. One rings 2 or 3 times a week for a chat.

Too many apartment buildings going up in our area. We are close to the city and now the lovely old houses that are on larger blocks being torn down to replace with ugly apartment buildings. They will never last as long as these houses have and what is even harder to take is that all the lovely old trees are being cut down. It will soon be a concrete jungle. These buildings de-humanise the area and within a short time look dirty and shabby.

Started out getting 50,000 points in six weeks....easily....and over 4 years it has just got worse and worse...my current 50,000 will take 4 months at least I don't get surveys anymore...they now seem to have cut back on using my Trivia, Polls and Discussions pages...so the next one might take the best part of a year...I think I need a new site......read the technical issues...its quite an eye opener.....its a good job I like the people on here...and they give me a laugh....

I do not regret but at times realise that they are just not me so I give them to Lifeline. All my good clothes I no longer wear I give to the charity shop. I actually have 2 bags in my boot ready to go there but I still have a bit of my robe to go through.

I do not have any type of pets and I never had any inclination to own a pet. However, I saw a movie called "The Daring Dobermans (1975)" - clever Doberman pinschers (dogs) that were being trained to become bank robbers (once upon a time - a goal of mines) - my type of "pet" - since I have a ton of untapped latent criminal behavior in me - (aka capitalism and aka white-collar crime) - lol!

I would give some to my family and keep a bit for myself, but what I would really love to do with the money would be book tickets for Brisbane and visit Australia Zoo :D Also I would donate lots of the remaining money to their Wildlife Hospital and conservation work

Judging from the number of ads and commercials featuring diamonds, I would have to say that diamonds are still the preferred choice for engagement rings.

Being checked over is a service and yes you should pay. They have studied for years, have all sorts of equipment to buy, rent to pay, insurance for buildings, workers, etc. Utilities and so much more let alone all the stock both medical and other. They have to know about all sorts of animals not just dogs and cats. Payment is for this expertise and if they found nothing wrong with the animal that is a great result and would put your mind to rest.

Not sure what a chicken bin is...The "bums" will probably sort out plastic waste and make some money out of it...I hope that you never become one (but you might be)....I'm not sure about what the last bit is about entirely

Its a tricky one...you don't just know more now...you are probably quite a different person too...I don't know how I would get on with myself when I was 23....radically different to now....your life experiences have contributed a lot to who you are at the moment...if you tinker in the past you will be different in the present...its all connected and hopefully a learning experience

Yep- got one for my daughter at her fave Beauty Salon where she gets all her nails, hair, lashes things done. So different from her mummy at same age.

Hi Mary, I have a good male mate, I spend nights over there, he comes over here occasionally (he lives in the wop wops). 90% of my mates are male (less hassle lol). I don't hide my phone, say where I'm going and who with, etc. There needs to be proof, acting on suspicion can break a relationship with no substance to back it. Get your family member to meet the colleague, if the spouse has nothing to hide then no worries. My partner is fine with my friendship with my mate. It's called trust (insert happy emoji smiley face).
