Have you ever got caught up in a traffic check points blitz or a police speed trap?

The people who complain about such things as being "revenue gathering", etc. are usually just the morons who want to do stupid things on the road. Public roads are not a playground - follow the rules or get off the roads! It's very very simple: if you don't do anything wrong, then you won't have to pay any fines / penalties.

Throughout my life, I have resided in primarily small towns and cities, but I was compelled to relocate to a sizable metropolis, which has resulted in enormous changes. Everything is expensive, but I have discovered that there are more opportunities for professional development and superior educational options in the larger city.

With all the violence now seemingly able to reign supreme in medium and large cities without much judicial action to prevent it happening again, you couldn't PAY me enough to go and live in a city! With digital learning now prevalent in all higher learning institutions you can get a degree online. The same would apply, IMHO, with respect to professional development being available by ZOOM or another digital interface. I live in a small country town in NSW Australia of 800 people. Im on the edge of town heading into the bush. The nearest regional shopping zone is 45 minutes west or a one hour trip east. The milky way is so beautiful on a clear moonless night and I might hear a truck and a ute bringing the guys who've been pig or Roo hunting back through town as they have their radio blaring, but sometimes you can hear a pin drop all night long until the birds start waking up in the trees outside my bedroom window. I usually get up then and await the rising sun just like now. I choose the birds and brisk fresh air over pollution and blaring horns, inpatient people, rudeness, theft and other more dangerous crimes and I am grateful that I can watch it on the news programs but I don't have to live it! Give me a home among the gum trees over concrete structures any day! Thanks for reading.

I was just wondering how many other people out there have no parents left, and your siblings do their own thing with their own families on holidays, and it leaves you with your own family and no interaction with others, really. No closeness like when you were a child, or the feeling of being needed. I myself feel so lonely and so depressed during every holiday. I don't know how to get past it. But it seems my family split when my parents died.
blunder boy
death, unfortunately, does separate some families we lost 5 people over the COVID-19 years, it does make it tough and I feel for you, people I think avoid you because they have no idea what to say or how to act, distance creeps in and routines change leaving people behind, can i suggest writing letters, making phone calls and let your family know where you are, how you are, hopefully, things work out and new beggings can start I wish you well, i have been through it , I see my brother weekly now instead of every Christmas, because of phone calls sending letters and we have a new beginning he was going through similar troubles when his wife died but is reinvigorated. I hope you have an ok easter and again if you can't call write a letter, even if you don't send it it will serve you well

What is the one thing in life that upsets you the most? I have a number of things that make my blood boil, but on top of my list is dishonesty. I hate it when people lie to me. People should know by now that the truth always come out, even if it is years later
Farmgirl22
A lot of things especially child abuse and animal abuse. Once I find new born kittens in a rubbish bag dumped on the side of the road, five kitten sadly 3 died, I worked day and night to looked after the two who are now three years old and the best loving cats. Another things that I get upset at are Dishonesty and violence.

I don't know how it's at your area where you're resident but at ours house's price increased 30% over the last 5 years, and it's estimated it's not gonna decline any time soon. Really good for us to sell you our house as we gonna make those 30% + profit, however I can see how people are struggling and buying houses 3bedroom one bath for over $1m, and it's fixer upper!! I don't see that fair at all. I am worried how my son would be ever able to afford living one day....
Andrew C 287196
House prices rise, but so do wages (and everything else). Many of the people who complain they can't afford a house are wasting piles of money on restaurant dining, overseas holidays, continually updating their tech gadgets and cars, TV subscriptions, etc. In ye olde days people actually saved money for a deposit and they made sacrifices to pay off the mortgage (and the mortgage was often for a lot longer than the 30 years people expect to pay it off now). Nothing has really changed, other than the attitude of people.
Having said that, prices are also artificially raised due to the greedy "investors" (local and non-resident) who buy multiple houses to rent out and/or do up and "flip" at a profit. If it had been illegal to own more than the one house you actually live in, house prices would be a lot lower.

Everyone is complaining that the cost of power is increasing, and they want us to switch to all electric, cars, home heat etc. Where is the infrastructure for all the demand? They say, cut your consumption, we will help you save money... however the price is increasing even if you are using less. These companies never do anything for the little guy. They still have to pay their CEO the big salary. What do you think?
Jellypony
Sorry this has nothing to do with power bills but I am so livid right now. I honest hope the bleeding hearts are happy with them selves. I hardly watch the news because it's all doom and gloom. Last nights head line was 70 y/o woman was stabbed in front of her 6 y/o granddaughter in Northern Brisbane shopping centre. The thugs wanted and stole her car, she obviously put up a little bit of a fight so they stabbed her to death. I honestly hope the family sues the government and the immigration department for allowing these criminals into Australia. Do you feel safe here any more? I certainly don't and why because it keeps happening time and time again. Wake up and stop allowing people like that here. It's not fair on the good people of this country to be put through this kind of hell the authorities have stowed upon us.For goodness sake just wake up.

Are we becoming too negative and not seeing the positives in our lives or our society? Consequently, people are unhappy (even angry) and intolerant of others. Symptomatic of this are those with fixed positions on issues who aggressively condemn those with a different view, or who seek to tear down our society and our fundamental values. Shouldn t we try to adopt a more positive outlook and be more tolerant of others; to engage in discussion instead of abuse? Is social media a...

Seems to be an increase of homes with no lawn or garden, I like a bit of both, some people at work say neither for no maintenance, what would you like if you could have anything? (you still have to maintain it)
gordy
I also like a bit of both. Trouble is Councils are approving these cement properties because they make a lot of money in revenue. One house, one block, front and back garden with garage turns into 3-4 properties with just a garage and not enough room to "swing a cat" so to speak. I feel claustrophobic just thinking about it. No trees, no garden, no bees, no fauna or flora. We are destroying our planet and environment. So sad.

In today's society, it is so different growing up compared to the olden days. Now take this as an example, you're getting married & it is the biggest day & memories of your life to last forever. I was brought up that the man usually leads & also is the man of the house. You get married in his church & take his surname to be yours. Usually this what happens, but not many times, unfortunately. I in my opinion I am so against the rule of women keeping their surname, once they get...

I advise not to as if you ever want to change back, it is a pain in the backside to prove that your current name matches your original name on your birth certificate AND it costs you lots of time and money to change all your ids from one name to the next (and for people that are remarrying a million times and do it every time for passports, bank accounts, drivers licenses, work id, social security, Tax, property and vehicle ownership, shares etc, I have no idea why they waste their time and money).
If you REALLY want to change your name, at least keep SOMETHING in your name that matches your birth certificate so you can prove that you are you.

If you found out a friend of yours was incarcerated for a crime he/she committed, whether knowingly or unknowingly aware of the consequences: would you support him/her and continue being that person's friend?
BLM
Since I was incarcerated as a juvenile delinquent - my answer - would be YES - I would unequivocally support the person - regardless of the circumstances! I know 'how' the criminal justice system works in the USA. Former president Donald John Trump has evaded the consequences of his actions because he has money, and Donald John Trump is white. (Donald John Trump has admitted he knew that he wasn't cheated out of winning re-election in 2020). The criminal justice system in America is 'broken' at the juvenile level and the adult level. Furthermore, not one person was convicted in the 'Banking Scandal of 2008' - which costed countries on this planet trillions of dollars (and the major players in 'Banking scandal of 2008' were WHITE)! In addition, not one person was convicted in the 'Savings and Loan Scandal' of the late 1970s and early 1980s - which costed the USA billions of dollars (and the major players in 'Savings and Loan Scandal' were WHITE)! So much for the argument CRIME - doesn't PAY!

When you have very strict parents/carers, are you making your children more rebellious? I believe yes, because the children eventually get really tired of the way you are with them. You need to be calm & explain the reason you chose for your child, in doing something in the way you want. Perhaps the child would understand more & if they state another way, why don't you compromise to solve the issue in a better way. I find being too hard on them, it leaves them with wrong...
NZSCORPION
As a severely beaten and abused child I call BS on this. I didn't rebel I chose not to be like my parents and to this day i choose to help people when and if i can. Childhoods only influence the weak willed. Life is a choice every step of the way.

So Halloween is coming up, and my teenagers want to go trick or treat. I've never done anything like this, so I'm seeing what are other people's thoughts on this, is it safe... should I worry, or should I just offer them a Halloween party at home?

Another American waste of money imported to NZ and Oz by retailers who are just money grabbers. It means nothing to Kiwis or Ockers and is unsafe in many areas where children as young as 5 are allowed to go and knock on complete strangers doors, and have not got a clue what to do when someone says "Trick" to earn sweets. They just expect a handout. It is rubbish when many people are struggling to put food on the table, and also contributes to tooth decay in our youngsters,, many of whom already have tooth problems.

As we already know in every country around the world there are good and bad people. Although when we stop for a moment and hear the media such as the news or read newspaper all we ever hear is bad, bad, terrifying news which involves crime, Stabbings, shootings, theft, assaults., hurting innocent people, causing pain to families, causing injuries/ death, road rage.Running people over and leaving them on the road to die and not render help. Hurting our kids, the elderly especially that are more vulnerable and easy targets especially if they are blind or deaf. I think personally if society keeps going this way we will not even be able to step outside of our homes , because we are all too scared and feel we could be next targeted. We are all struggling, whether it's due to the cost of living, job, unemployment, or health, People's moods and mental thoughts do not give the right to anyone to take it out on others or hurt those who are innocent and destroy people's lives. There is not enough hard punishment in place.

From not having your finances in order to rush through the inspection process, common mistakes made by homebuyers can derail the path to owning your dream home. How to avoid common home buying mistakes?

Wow! Such a GREAT TOPIC in these times!

2. Assume your mortgage will increase by 25%
3. Assume the “bread winner” may get sick with no insurance or financial help. Do you have a contingency fund?
4. Don’t waste your money on “Home Inspection Companies”…unless you fluke out and get one that has a lengthy PROVEN track record ( lol…they all say they do) ….save money and get the info you need by getting a reliable plumber , electrician, roofer, buy a moister meter and potentially more experts in their field accordingly to spend an hour instead

I kept wondering what would happen if there were no electronic devices for the young kids of today, (10 and under) so my son and daughter-in-law tested the theory to see what would happen, so for a complete day they took away the devices (did not charge) and the TV was not working (took it off the main plug). At the beginning they were angry, and it did take about an hour, but they all went outside, played any thing and everything they could find, some cricket, riding...

My husband s co-worker recently had a stroke and he is only in his 30s. He is still suffering from the post-stroke effects but started coming back to work full time because he is the breadwinner for his family and his kids are still very young. He knows the stress from work is probably the trigger for his stroke, but what other options does he have? One can argue that your health is more important, but there are bills to pay. It is easier said than done to just change the job....
WonkyandProud
In 1989 when I became unable to work due to a nervous breakdown, my husband kept telling me I couldn't quit my job because we would lose our house. I realized that, and I worked and worked until one day, I was on my way to work, and I just knew I couldn't go to the office one more time. Therefore, I had a complete breakdown, and I haven't been able to work since because of anxiety and depression. These are very difficult disabilities to prove. However, with a lot of determination, I did manage to get retirement Social Security disability. It took several months, but I had enough vacation and sick days saved to keep my paycheck coming until the disability kicked in. It was so difficult, and I have not recovered from it. I had a wonderful government job that I loved, but my boss pushed and pushed until my brain completely shut down. I could not even comprehend anything my husband was telling me, and I cried constantly! I spent 3 months in the Psych Center! Finally, they let me go because I was better, but nothing more could be done for me at that time. I tried to sue the government for causing this, but I lost my case. They blamed it on the fact that my father had died during that same time period. I was not permitted to take time off to even visit Dad in the hospital where he was dying a painful death from bone cancer! I regret that to this day! We were in the process of building a new office building and no leave was allowed. I wish I had stood up to my boss, but I just couldn't! I still have not come to terms with how he treated me. He even made negative remarks about women, and he made no effort to hide that the men had more respect that the two secretaries! I wish that had been brought up at the hearing, but my attorney prohibited me from mentioning certain things. You can't beat a government attorney. They play so dirty. They even said that I married my husband, who was older than me, as a father figure. That was so not true! I knew this man for 15 years before we got married, and I never believed Dad was going to die. I could NOT accept that! Thanks for letting me vent. I hope it helps. I still want to talk to my boss and tell him how he ruined my life. My job was my pride. After that, I lost my self-esteem. I realize now that who I was shouldn't depend on the job I have. It is defined by the person I am, and I'm proud of who I am now! I hope this helps someone. Don't let people define who you are. They don't know you!!! God Bless you all!

With all the needs in infrastructure and the health sector, why is so much tax money spent on various sports? I believe that elected officials should be more concerned about their constituents instead of entertainment for a minority group.
Crazy Chef
I think that they actually spend too much money trying to get minority groups to take the COVID vacation.

I can't help but wonder how many people think the government can turn old abandoned schools/buildings into homes for the homeless people. There are several abandoned schools which have been just sitting there for years. What are your thoughts on this matter?
Judy CH
A lot of homeless people choose to be homeless, it is not up to the taxpayer to pay for everything for them, a lot of working people can't afford to buy, cigarettes, alcohol drugs etc but are expected to pay for people who have chosen their life style. The Government uses the money from tax payers but treat it as it is their God given right to spend it the way they choose. And yes I do know what it is like to go hungry, not have shoes to wear. I was sent out by my Mother to steal peoples milk money when I was young. Mum always had enough to buy hers and my oldest brothers smokes and go to the movies 2 or 3 times a week while I at 8 years old was left to look after 3 brothers and a sister aged 6, 4, 3 and 2 years old. Often all we had to eat was stale bread with hot water poured over it. The more she was given the more entitled she felt. Never worked a day in her life. My brother who was 6 years and sister 5 years older than me had already been put in care because Mum could't look after them. I made up my mind when I was young that I was not going to live like that. I never smoked, started working at 14 and only brought what we could afford. It was going well until we got scammed through an invoice 4 years ago.

In previous generations, children left home at 18 years old and became independent. Now with student debt and the increasing cost of renting and buying a house, we are seeing the rise of the 'Boomerang babies' who stay or move back home for well into their 20's. Is this good for our communities and have you noticed it in yours? Do you know any 'Boomerang Babies'?
Teri 1282723
For many reasons my two sons haven't left our home. One is on the autism spectrum and will always need help, the other works part time and has committed to looking after his brother when I'm gone, none of us could afford rent on our own, plus other stuff I don't need to get into. We are all respectful of each other, never raise our voices, and contribute to the bills in a fair and agreeable way. For us, this works beautifully.
I realize other families will have their divorces or loss of jobs or financial issues, etc. and need to come home for a while. Home should always be a safe place to come to when extra help is needed.
Just don't let them take advantage and use you without contributing what they can - financially, with chores, repairs - while they're with you.

No way!! It is not a vaccine. It is mRNA gene therapy which will permanently alter your DNA.. It has been rushed and skipped animal trials. It has not been fully approved and is ONLY being used under so called "Emergency measures". No long-term side effects are known and many have had severe reactions, permanent injury and death from this vaccine world-wide. They have said it will not stop you getting covid, becoming ill with covid OR transmitting covid to others. In fact they say we will still have to social distance, wear masks and still have to quarantine at our own expense if travelling. So what is the point for a virus with a 99.97% recovery rate without a vaccine?

I've seen every age of child up to I'd say 7yrs, nursing discreetly or being handed a bottle or pacifier. Do you think there's a "reasonable" age that an infant/ toddler should be weaned off all of these ways to feed or get comfort? Or is this strictly a woman's choice, and we should respect that choice and not get involved with our own opinions?
Christine M 323842
How about we don’t look for reasons to judge other mothers. It’s a bloody hard job. When children are little you are doing the best that you can, while the world looks upon in judgement, and people feel they have the right to approach you and tell you what to do. WRONG!!!
We need to support mothers and the choices that they make. Different families, different children, different values, different circumstances, different cultures will all lead to different choices.

The Koala Rescue services are a voluntary group that rescue check up upon...and transport injured koalas...and then return them to their natural habitat after they have been cleared by vet services in Australia. If you phone them to help an animal, or help them in any way, you are recorded as being a MOP....member of the public...."yes the MOP said that he looked distressed" ... that sort of thing. Auckland. Was good but has gradually deteriorated as a result of the many hundreds of thousands of immigrants that have been allowed in over the recent years and yet there was not the infrastructure to handle it. As a result blocked motorways, deteriorating water mains etc, schooling shortage, housing shortage etc etc. So now we all work in the city but escape to our holiday homes near the beach when we are not. All sad but true.

When you purchase your clothing, is it important to you to have brand name labels for your own security and others to see? Or will you wear and purchase clothes that don't have designer labels and prices, but are nevertheless, still decent and nice looking and comfortably fitting (and age appropriate)?
Christine M 323842
I wear whatever I bloody well want too. If I like it, it’s a good fit, I can afford it, I think it will last, I’ll get it. Purchasing cheap disposable fashion or clothing is nothing to be proud of.

Do people today have a more self-centered attitude than in past generations, putting their own wants and desires before anyone and anything else?

Everyone has this trait but it just depends to what extent. There is nothing wrong with putting your needs/wants before others because you have to do what it best for you and look after yourself. But don't do it at the expense of others. There needs to be a balance.

Is it okay to put a kid in time out? I have read it all the good and the bad effects of putting a child in time out. Putting all that aside, how much damage is really being done to a child s self-worth when one is being sent to time out? Please let me know your opinion on when and is it appropriate to send a child to time out?!

Wait. The Politically Correct numbnuts deemed smacking was "bad" and now time out is deemed "bad" as well?? No wonder we've got 10 year olds with hammers robbing liquor stores and 14 year olds doing ram raids late at night ... there's absolutely zero penalty for doing something bad. :-\ There's absolutely nothing wrong with a sensible smack on the backside (and no, that's not the same as beating the kid with a weapon).

Some love the idea of going to the buffet - big variety of food and eat as much as you can. Others think it s a waste of money because they are not big eaters. So, what if it is a gathering where everyone has to pay for their own, do you think it s a good idea to have it at a buffet restaurant?

Does anyone really understand fully what Bitcoin is and how it works and what the ups and downs of it really are? Some big Bitcoin company just went belly up and why? If this is the latest and greatest way to invest or grow your money(I don't know if it's about investments or there's more to it), then why did a huge, leading company just go bankrupt. Any explanations from you math and money nerds out there? And I say that with all the love for numbers people one...
Tom S Qld
What is bitcoin?
Simply put, bitcoin is a digital currency. No bills to print or coins to mint. It's decentralized -- there's no government, institution (like a bank) or other authority that controls it. Owners are anonymous; instead of using names, tax IDs or social security numbers, bitcoin connects buyers and sellers through encryption keys. And it isn't issued from the top down like traditional currency; rather, bitcoin is "mined" by powerful computers connected to the internet.
How does one 'mine' bitcoin?
A person (or group, or company) mines bitcoin by doing a combination of advanced math and record-keeping. Here's how it works. When someone sends a bitcoin to someone else, the network records that transaction, and all the other transactions made over a certain period, in a "block." Computers running special software -- the "miners" -- inscribe these transactions in a gigantic digital ledger. These blocks are known, collectively, as the "blockchain," an eternal, openly accessible record of all the transactions that have ever been made.

When I was younger I thought when I get older that is a good time and I'll get freedom to do whatever I want. But now I got freedom but I want my family to guide and motivate me to be on track. So, why there shouldn't be statutory warning on alcohol bottle as it is there in cigarette. As in smoking, cancer or other health condition is not developing in each and every one. However, as science follow the statistical based data, it is accepted that cigarette smoking in injurious to health. Similarly, alcohol may not produce...
APB
Putting a health warning on cigarettes was as pointless as applying it to other items...you can make the product have ugly packaging..but people will smoke if they want to (until the majority bully them into not doing at all)..and the same applies to alcohol...I really don't like our current smug society...we used to have a democracy...but now we have a majority bullying everyone else to conform...its not just cigarettes or alcohol...its what you should think and what you can say...its creepy and terrible...1984 and worse...
AND I really REALLY hate it...I'm glad I'm getting older and won't have to put up with all this shit that much longer...and I never imagined that that would be the case...
HEADS UP.....what you are allowed to eat is probably next...but by that time you'll probably be so beaten down and compliant that you will barely even notice....welcome to your future..

Recently I saw an article that a woman calls for "only adult flight" after she experienced a few hours flight with a screaming child. Well, it was a bit brave from her to say that. Yes, it's not fun when a child screams on a plane, but what parents actually can do? They never know how the child is gonna react, and sometimes it can be unavoidable to fight with a child. I do have small child on my own he is 4 y but never been on plane because I don't want to go thru any...

I have 4 kids and when they were under 5 Flying with them was extremely challenging, especially from New Zealand to Texas. I personally think rather than complaining about the kids..why not offer to help or invest in some decent ear plugs!!

More jobs seem to be available to work from home. Is this a good thing or does working from home cut people off from everyday people to interact, and it's going to be a negative change. Is working from home better for mental health, or do we need to interact with people in person to stay mentally healthy?
JP
I have worked from home for over 5 years, At the beginning it was hard but once I got into a routine I found that from a productivity perspective I was much more productive. I was able to manage my increasing workloads and I have had no mental health issues as I still get to interact with colleagues via TEAMS and ZOOM. I appreciate that working from home is not for everyone but I think that COVID has brought home the possibility for employers and employees to work together to make sure that both benefit from the arrangements.

The weather seems to be getting much colder in Winter and hotter in Summer - Is this Climate Change or just that we feel it more in our bones etcetera as we get older?
Christina C 466456
Our bodies change a lot over the years so no doubt we will feel a lot different at varying ages. Our ability to repair, hormone differences, body composition and even the weather contributes to how we feel. So there's a lot of factors.
As for arthritis it is an 'inflammation' disease and we know that there are a lot of lifestyle changes we can make to improve and sometimes eliminate the issue. Firstly changing diet can have a dramatic effect for some people. Did you know that turmeric has such powerful antiinflammatory chemicals in it that it matches nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs? There are a number of other foods that reduce inflammation as well like foods rich in carotenoids/beta carotene or vitamin A - a powerful antioxidant. Vitamin E is also good not only for it's antiinflammatory properties but also due to its role in collagen production which we all know is important for joints. Good sources of vitamin A are sweet potatoes, carrots and leafy greens - basically all the bright, vibrant fruit and veggies. For vitamin E there nuts like almond but also cold pressed extra virgin olive oil is one of the best sources of vitamin E you can get. Also vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and also crucial for collagen production. Another good food for joints is gelatin which is basically denatured collagen - have about 20 grams of gelatin powder (the regular/plain/unflavoured gelatine powder that you use to make cheesecake/jello etc that you find in the baking section at the supermarket) a day which should give adequate levels of glycine for good levels of collagen production. I prefer food source of gelatin over supplements industry products as the food industry has much more stricter quality control than the supplements industry which is not as heavily scrutinised, which is one reason why most registered dietitians recommend getting your vitamins/minerals from your diet over supplements.
Another important factor is body composition, particularly the type of fat that is in your body - white fat (stored fat) is highly inflammatory while brown fat (fuel) is antiinflammatory. So losing excess fat should be top priority for joint pain management. We can either exercise, diet or get cold/start shivering more (up to 13°C seems to be the magic number where your body starts using white fat as fuel to try and keep warm) to convert white fat to brown/metabolically active fat. So the cold is actually good for you in this case!
Another method to manage inflammation is intermittent fasting as fully fasting (zero calories) contributes to repair and antiinflammatory processes within the body.
Finally moving more/cardio and building muscle helps to support your joints by strengthening muscles and bones so that they can handle some of the load.
Hope this helps :)

The Australian Capital Territory has announced that petrol cars will not be sold there after 2035. Isn't that a huge overreach? For one thing the price is prohibitive, then what about the infrastructure for charging. I'm not sure, I want an electric car, hybrid perhaps, but fully electric? Along with the power problems we are currently experiencing, will there be enough power for everyone to charge their electric car? While I have my own garage with a...

As parents get older & children grow into adults we generally expect them to become independent & this reduces the load on parents. However, when children have disabilities which affecting their ability to become & remain independent, the expectation and reality of parent's lives can be that they are caring for offspring into adulthood. There are people, (mostly women) who may also be caring for their own parents as they age. Others may be caring for their spouse or...

My daughter was a victim of getting bullied at school. There were always a view girls that would walk past her d either say something wicked or just bumped into her, so she would lose her balance and either fall or landed against the wall way wall. She wanted to change school's, but couldn't. We went to the school and talked to them, but nothing changed. The last option was to go see the principal of Hastings Girls High school, but she said she will sort it...
Nanone
The same thing happened to my granddaughter and the school was useless. They even tried to pick on her younger brother and she intervened but she was the one in trouble. Schools don't do the right thing for their pupils and it just seems to be a few that are bullies and they get away with it. If more is done in school we could stop this instead they just sweep it under the carpet and hope the parents go away.

Have you stopped hugging people, or stopped kissing people when greeting them? We have stopped shaking hands and probably won't ever again, but I stopped wearing lipstick because of wearing a mask. I thought there was little point, but I keep forgetting to put it on when I go out now. I get dressed, then once I'm out I remember I haven't put my lippi on. Am I the only one?

What pandemic??? We never gave up anything for a lie and everything is a lie until it is proven. For us we refused to be cowed by a lie... Also fortunate that we saw the world before it fell down the rabbit hole and became stupid on steroids, So as we always had a simple life we continued.... as before.

How trustworthy do you believe our MEDIA are today? I read quite a lot on News sites and Newspapers, and am constantly amazed at how selective or biased the view's or judgement of these Journalists. Why don't they just shut up...and stop trying to influence the public by what they write! Once NEWS was all about publishing the facts, now it seems journalists often just want to express their biased opinions, and mislead the public from the real truth
Mopos
The media in general have never been trustworthy but! it is happening more and more nowadays. I agree with you Zing.

Psychedelic drugs have a long history in medicine and popular culture, and they re now being researched as possible treatments for mental illnesses and other debilitating conditions. But are psychedelics ready to go from underground to mainstream medicine? And what lessons can we learn from the strict regulation of medicinal cannabis?
Sand
Returned US soldiers with PTSD use such drugs whilst in session with a psychologist. Results are good. Why would big pharma offer anything better than nature? As for medicinal cannabis who can afford it? To all the judgemental straightjacks out there: The war on drugs started with racism. It was to harass Billie Holiday because she wouldn't stop singing 'Strange Fruit'. It has nothing to do with craziness or addiction. Ancient humans took psychedelics it is in our genes. Do I do psychedelics? No. But if anyone wants to it is not for me to judge.

Are we in denial about alcohol? Why do you drink and how much in your opinion is too much? Are the guidelines for no more than two standard drinks per day realistic?
Jellypony
Depends on if it is hard liquor or not. We have 2 beers and some times 2 wines and occasionally we drink every day but only for a little while and then we stop and go back to our 3 nights off a week. Some would think that was excessive. We enjoy our drinkies and nibbles. I don't care what other people think, we do as we please in our own home and we are no threat to any one. We are careful and we manage our own health and I don't think it is doing us any damage (yet)? We are here enjoying life and we are happy. I don't judge others so why should they judge us.

Television, mobile phone, which invention for you was the best ever? For me, hands down, it has been the microwave. It has made my life so much easier. I can remember nights when the meat wouldn't thaw or the bread was a frozen lump, but now nothing is a problem. I can defrost, thaw or cook whatever I want whenever I want. Every now and then... it's mentioned on the News...of people scamming innocent people out of their hard-earned savings. With so many people accessing the internet daily, and phone's being used by everyone, what is really being done to prosecute those guilty of fleecing innocent people out of their money? You can complain to police but many don't seem to want to know, too hard, too busy, or they don't have enough people to investigate every fraud case they receive. Should...

We were scammed out of $53,500, It was a scam that hardly anyone knew about, we were building a new house through GJ Gardners Manawatu, we had sold our house brought the land and they started building, we had to pay progress payments and the first invoice arrived for the slab down, we knew it had been laid about 10 days before so were expecting the bill, when it did arrive my husband was really sick with pneumonia and a blood clot in his leg, we were backwards and forwards to the Hospital and Dr, lab for tests etc then another email arrived and said when do you expect to pay this so we thought maybe we had missed another email or the accountant had been late sending it so went to the bank to pay it, they told me to go home and do it online, normally we would have gone to Palmerston North and payed by cheque and got a reciept but it wasn't an option as it was a long drive with my husbands condition. About 10 days later we found it was a scam, GJ's denied it was them who were hacked, though we learnt later it was and it had happened to them about 3 Months before but they didn't bother to let their Customers know, the money went into the mules account which had always been in overdraft, the ASB bank never questioned the payment even though it wasn't made out to her, they then let her transfer the money to two bank accounts in Australia. They would not help us at all. If it had been their money they would of had it back in a flash, The police in the City where the mule lived interviewed her and said or she hasn't got any money so we won't prosecute!. We asked the Minister of Police for help he didn't want to know. The Police Woman Detective in the town where we were renting really pushed for the woman to be charged which she was after about 2 years. She has to pay money back a little bit a week but if she stops paying I don't think we can do anything. Every payment I make now I check that the bank account belongs to the company I am paying. A little while ago the Government was caught out by the same sort of scam. Most people I have spoken to about it were not aware of that sort of scam and said they would have been caught out. The Banks don't care because they are too busy ranking in money.

NZ has decided to ban their YOUTH from taking up smoking. If you're a kid growing up in NZ today ... then, when you turn 18, you -- won't have the legal right to smoke! Good idea, or Not?
AMUSICALTONY
Best idea I've ever heard. My wife suffers from emphysema due to her years of smoking. She's 72 and is like 92 years old. I'm the same, never smoked, and can run a marathon. if needed. I walk up to 10 kilometers per day and enjoy a variety of sports. I have no difficulty breathing and when our grandchildren and great-grandchildren come to visit I have active playtime with them. Smoking is not cool and will impact you in later years.

Is it possible to stay true to your internal compass (morals, principles, scruples, values, etc)? Life (society) is constantly pushing you off-course. In the end, I went with the means justified the end (your goals in life). I did not stay true to my internal compass - but I did get what I wanted out of life! I am hearing a lot about Free Speech, as of late. I currently am in the country of my parent's birth (USA) and many are saying that Free Speech is being targeted. They said that social media is being far too repressive. Many say, there needs to be restrictions due to what occurred at the Capitol. So, what are your thoughts concerning Free Speech and are you under the impression that it is "under attack"?
Cindy N 315785
As an Aussie who's news media has been blocked by Fb, what is this free speech you speak of? Even our TV news is totally leftist. We are only being told what the government wants us to hear, and so much of that is sensationalist click bait headlines. We are not free to pray for homosexuals as we risk a huge fine and jail term, even if they are our own children we are praying for. One of our Australian rugby players was fired for a religious post on his own Fb wall....

There is an interesting debate going on in America specially among Hollywood actors that they only shower when they start to smell or feel icky. Even when they do shower they only wash certain important parts and don't wash their body with soap everyday either. What do you all think of this and how often do you shower or bath. I shower everyday and some days twice and can not go without having shower.

I shower daily, I wash my hair alternate days. When I worked in Aged Care we showered clients minimum of 3 days per week, 7 days if there were continence issues. (Community care, clients were still in their own homes)

Why do so few people understand the proper use of apostrophes? Are we beginning to lose the rudiments of the English language ?

Unfortunately, the teachers of today are those students who were not taught grammar and punctuation when they were in school. I've seen mistakes on school reports written by teachers.
I heard a young woman say that it's patronizing to put punctuation in a text message. Patronizing? I felt like asking her if she knew the meaning of the word!

I stock up on non-perishables at sale time. I've never paid full price for hair colour or washing detergent: I wait until they're on sale for 50% off, then buy two or three packs. I buy new boots at the end of winter sales & sandals & swimwear at the end of summer. I'm more concerned about comfort & quality than the latest fashions. For larger items like furniture, I wait until post-Xmas or end of financial year sales. I also sew a lot of my own clothes - that saves a LOT!

I'm living in America, and it's almost on a daily basis, that a food sold in a grocery store or health food store is being recalled. For salmonella, etc. It just makes me wonder, why are so many foods being recalled, so often.. Are companies cutting costs, at our expense? And, have you ever been a victim of a food recalled product?
AlbertA K 456302
Here in NZ we are reasonably confident that our team of consumer and health services take food safety very seriously and only order recalls when absolutely necessary.

Dale.K Chch NZ
as a parent of 2 special needs children ( now Adults in age) I would be aware of many different reasons, Child abusers who are the ones that are killing our children by abuse do not display their actions in public, and many time's discipline is more about safety issues, protecting the child from danger

How young is to young for a child to play 15+ or a 18+ game? I know of few parents that let their 5-7 year olds play these violent games, my son is 11 and a half and I've only just let him start playing the 15+ games but not the 18+.

Why stop at corona virus. The flu kills people too, more young people than corona as well. We should fine and jail anyone with the flu as well. How about some one who knowingly keeps bees they are known to kill some people if stung lets throw them in jail too. Ohh wow just imagine how much we could fine the CCP for knowingly letting it out. Not quite sure how we would jail the CCP though

Governments are suspected of keeping important information under lock and key , sometimes for many years. It is not just a conspiracy theory either. Are you concerned about what secrets your National government might be holding? SECURITY, UFO'S, SPYING, etc! What do you think?
BLM
A very good question! NOTHING is too sensitive (or dangerous) that it needs to be kept a secret (mishandling of the pandemic by former president Trump - his administration believe that pandemic was a hoax created by a too liberal press). However, it is a great way for ANY government to avoid disclosing their corruption (or incompetence) issues (military cost overruns for new weapons or weapon system). It is better for the public too know the facts (Biden won the election - USA) - instead of coming up with conspiracy theories (Biden did not won the election - USA) which people (in any country) - begin to believe (with horrendous results) - USA: 01/06/2021 - storming of the Capital building in Washington, D. C. The TRUTH (facts) should always see DAYLIGHT -without being twisted by any government!

l think that if you do the crime than you should pay for it. Why should the family if the murdered victims have to pay for the killer's keep while they have lost their lived one or some child molesters who has no intention of changing, they are a waste of space and resources, they should be put down.

Never mind the matching - I think it's disgusting that no one cares how they look anymore. At least in the U.S. People wear pajamas and house shoes in public, clothes that should be in the trash and unwashed hair. No one seems to take pride in the way they look anymore. I know prices in retail stores are high, but there are always thrift stores where you can find nice things for very reasonable prices.

When the other company put a Covid vaccine on the market I was very wary because I know from personal experience they don't tell the truth about adverse reactions, but when I was locked out of everywhere because I was unvaccinated I gave in and accepted it. For me, yes. Parents should be concerned about sports betting because it is highly accessible to youth, addictive, and increasingly normalized, often leading to financial, mental health, and legal issues. One in five adults with serious gambling problems started before age 18, highlighting the long-term risk of early exposure. What would you say? Should parents worry about sport betting?
Liane H
Not just parents ..everybody should be concerned . It doesn't get anywhere near the recognition it justly deserves. You don't see ads for crack cocaine every hour on the T.V now do you ?
The flimsy measures they throw in after the ad are even more insulting to imply Gambling responsibility lies with the punter. All these products are simply set up to be addictive and harmful and not a thing is being done about it .
Watch your children closely, it's very dangerous game . If they are doing it alone as opposed to socially once in a while then ..even more reason to be concerned. Not just a money issue either, it eventually takes up that person's entire headspace exactly like drugs and or alcohol do and it does not discriminate (age or gender or intelligence !).

What were your favourite subjects at school? My favourites throughout high school were English, Drama & History. In early high school Commerce was fun, in later high school Economics was tolerated only. My hated ones were Religion & PE/ sport. Both, of which were a complete waste of time to me, though I didn't mind cheering on friends who were into sports. How about you?

I don't have favorite subjects, favorite teachers, or fond memories (of school) when I was in school - elementary (K thru 6), junior high school (7 thru 8), or senior (night) high school (9 thru 12). I don't believe in any religion or after life so these quiet times on the beach are my version of heaven!

If you buy multiples of that item, only the first is free, but they will refund the extra amount you paid for the other products. I've got a better-than-average memory & actively look out for specials, so I get items free from time to time.

I recently took my car into the dealership's service garage for limited work, i.e. replace summer tires with winter tires and an oil change. I was told in advance it would cost $450, but the garage performs an inspection before it commences work on the car. After the inspection, the garage said that a number of other work items needed to be performed and the estimate inflated up to $1700. This was not the first time that such inspections inflated the cost and work to...

I do not own a car. I do not drive (vision difficulties). Not my issue (I do not know or care whether it is a fix up or a rip off). However, my suggestion is to switch over to using public transportation (no more inspection fees). I use public transportation!

What s something completely normal that instantly makes you irrationally annoyed and do you pretend it doesn t? Could be loud chewers, slow walkers, people who say let s circle back. Let's hear your weirdest pet peeves no judgment (well, maybe a little).
Tina 1668270
Liars. That's my biggest pet peeve. I have so much disrespect for a person after that it all i think about. Just be honest from the beginning. Nothing to worry about if your honest.

Opinion Life "ancestry" survey Opinion Life "drinks" That horrible survey that shows a picture of a pub and wants to ask you about where you go drinking, how often, what you drink etc. These are a few of my most hated ones. Which ones do you hate?
APB
Hunter S Thompson once took a crap in a box and posted it to Richard Nixon when he was president...maybe we should all do the same to survey companies that make us do a whole survey and then not pay us?...it cannot be that difficult to find out where they live...like Samplicious...who just made me do three surveys in a row for nothing...I know they are based in the US...we could set up our own mailing list too....work together...

More and more businesses are asking for payment upfront before the job or service has been performed. What happened to the practice of completing a job or service, then sending an invoice for work well completed to everyone's satisfaction? What if something goes wrong? They already have their money in hand. It makes it more difficult to complain about a shoddy job afterwards. What is your experience in this regard? ...

Part of is the cost of materials so when you are paying up front, the contractor or service can buy the materials needed to start or complete the job.

Please share anything fun things to do with technology (that is not something that is a usual thing to do with it). I think it is fun to give online translators things translate from English to another language and then have that result translated into another language and so forth (like internet Chinese Whispers) until you get to a point where you can't be bothered any more, and then you ask it to translate the final result back into English and see what it ends up saying. ...

I was at the dentist today, and we were talking about how teeth don't get better with age. This started off a discussion about what does get better with age. Of course, wine was mentioned. He said his cooking was getting better, and his assistant said she was less anxious about what other people thought of her. I thought I was better at considering other people's points of view than when I was young. What do you think gets better with age?
writerrochelle
Knowledge and Wisdom get better with age from our experiences. Unfortunately, by the time we are smarter and wiser, we're usually too old for it to matter much anymore! ;-D

Imagine humans successfully settle on a new planet. To ensure a fresh start, the community decides to create one founding rule that everyone must follow. What do you think that rule should be and why? Should it focus on equality, environmental care, peace, or something else entirely? Let s get creative your rule could shape the future of an entire civilisation!

This is the easiest recipe I ve found - no fussing about clove-studded onions, vinegar, peppercorns, bicarbonate soda etc. Simply rinse your corned beef under cold running water, place it into a slow cooker and cover with quality ginger ale (I use two bottles of Schweppes). Cook covered for four hours on high, or eight hours on low, then slice and serve with sides. I enjoy it with creamy mashed potatoes, peas, tomatoes and a cheesy sauce, but you could go the...

In the 1970s we were as a family for about 4 months we could not find a place to live there was lots of housing, but landlords did not want to rent to families then with children. We did finally get a place, and my husband worked at several places and in 4 states before we could get a place to live. Today there is a homeless epidemic caused by inflation and by greed. The new homeless have jobs but are priced out of affordable housing. They just cannot afford the...

The idea of giving someone an awesome gift is always forefront of our minds when a new baby is on the way, but how much should you really spend?
Sheree T Princess
It would depend on how much you can afford. I like the idea of a gift basket with a variety of items.

Regardless of how well you think you remember things, all of our brains are full of memories of events that never happened so-called false memories. And that, according to science, isn't necessarily something to worry about. What would you say? Do we remember things the way they really happened, or the mind can play tricks on us?
Elizabeth A 807208
I guess we all see things differently and what one sees the other doesn't. My mum used to exaggerate when she was telling stories about her childhood and her sisters would say that's not the way I remember it.

My neighbors are elderly, but the fight a lot. They throw plates and other things at each other. We called the police who sent two young officers. We watched from our window as they knocked on the door. The elderly man opened the door and beckoned them to enter. The door was still open, and we heard the elderly man ask the officers if they'd like some coffee. He went on to tell them that his wife is sleeping and asked if they'd like him to wake her. The officers...

In the case of what is potentially a domestic violence case, the police should have spoken to both parties. To not speak to the woman, just because the man seemed nice is gross misconduct. This is how people die at the hands of their partners, when the people that are there to protect you fail at doing their job. This is incomprehensible. I would call the police, and explain what you've just told us. Thank you for calling, most people turn a blind eye. Having been in this situation before, I wish someone like you had come to my aid. You did a good thing to help someone in need, so I commend you for doing the right thing.

The best movie I have every watch is 'Wolfen' release in 1981. A horror, crime movie filmed in film nor style with all scenes at night. The ending of the movie will catch you completely off guard - rated GP - no sex scenes in the movie! Not the type of movie you watch with your kids because it has dark humor and very dark psychological overtones in the movie!

I have a few.. Pretty Woman because I'm such a romantic lol.. Ghost,The Titanic, Dirty Dancing, Top Gun, Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Hobbit, Edward Scissor Hands,Angels one with Nicholas Cage(forgotten the name lol) Any movie with Jodie Foster in it, she's a brilliant actress.

Should there be stricter building regulations in fire-prone areas, including the use of materials like metal roofs and stucco walls, and a reduction in the amount of wood used? Additionally, should every house in these areas be required to have a water reserve for fire emergencies? Finally, should escape plans and properly maintained vehicles be mandatory?
LRK
I think with the fires in California that could have been avoided if the state would have done their job and do brush clearing year round or controlled burns, the fires could have been smaller and easier contained. I think we should rebuild but look at material being used.

Are you taking vitamins for health reasons? Some experts say that vitamins are useless. We should be able to source essential vitamins from our daily food. Now, however, there are warnings about Vitamin B6 causing peripheral neuropathy in large doses. Should we continue with our regimes or look more closely to check whether we are doing more harm than good? What do you think?
Kathleen 1396104
I have cancer. Vitamin d was recommended and folic acid for my hair. It is thin but I have not lost it yet.

Our perception changes as we grow older. What's something you realized about a family member once you got older?
Teri 1282723
My second daughter wanted to (very cruelly) cut ties with me around 15 years ago. It really hurt me and I tried for years to fix things but then over time realized how abusive and manipulative she really is and has been for most of her life. I was finally able to let go and it feels really good to acknowledge that now I have 3 kids and not 4.

We often hear about the negative aspects of the internet and online activity, and they are all valid. But for me, the positives outweigh those negatives. I am 64 and have been "online" for at least 30 years now. These are a few of the positives for me: Connection with family and friends, especially when the connections cannot be in person. Educational - the internet has opened up huge opportunities for learning, through online study, easy access to information,...

The internet allows us to shop online for things we need. The internet allows telecommuting options for employers. The internet provides us with plenty of entertainment options. The internet provides us with online job opportunities. Last, everything you mentioned in your scenario. Question: Since you mentioned you have been online for at least thirty years - Did you start off - using dial-up internet or high-speed internet. I can still remember using dial-up internet in the earlier 1990s :-)).

I made my first Christmas Cake for this year yesterday and realized that I have been making this cake for 60 years. I have made it so often. Then there is my Nana's Christmas pudding recipe. I took over making that for the family 30 years ago. I still have to make 3 each year. I don't know how...

For me, decent housing improves health, education, and work. It provides a sense of safety and belonging. Without a decent home, it is difficult to contribute to society. Because housing is so vital to our "mana" and wellbeing, it is a human right. How is it where you live, and what are your thoughts?
merricat
Where is it written that we have the "right" to expect a home, or shelter? From our earliest ancestors, they had to hunt and gather what they needed to survive. They hunted animals for food, and they used the skin and bones to build shelters and make clothing, using crude tools made from other parts from the animals they hunted. Eventually, they made better tools, allowing to build better homes using more natural elements, rocks, wood, mud, eventually metal. They had to work for everything that needed. There were no free handouts. Why should any able humans expect anyone to give them anything that they didn't work for?
