Australian parents are asking the government to legislate a law banning people under the age of 16 from having an account on social media. How you could police that, I have no idea. Many admit it would enable them to stop their children using social media by blaming someone else. What on earth is wrong with these people? Are they afraid of their children? It would seem so. If you don't have a backbone, perhaps you shouldn't have children because it requires you to be a...

Parents should teach their children as we were taught years ago with strictness but the do-gooders have made it very with all the political correctness that a child can't get a smack or be chastised & so they are completely overriding any discipline. for goodness sake parents do not want to maim their kids, but it is time for them to discipline without being charged

My Mum & Grandma were very superstitious & some of those superstitions rubbed off on me! I will not walk under ladders as it is unlucky. Grandma would never have peacock feathers in her house - they were unlucky. If I see a black cat, to me that is a lucky omen. If my mum dropped a utensil, then we were going to get visitors! If she spilt salt, she would throw some over her left shoulder so she wouldn't have an argument. I love finding a four leaf clover, that is so lucky....

Superstitious is the devil's idea to cloud you mind and not make the right decision. When things happen, it happens for a reason. Black cat crossed the road to go home, or, to find food, or to find a mate. One of my best friends told me not to look in the mirror at night, because you see bad things. Thats a load of hogwash

I always offer Tradies a coffee or tea when they have a day's work. I feel guilty when we sit down for lunch. Should I or shouldn't I offer them lunch with us? Thoughts please.
Anton A 1225344
As a semi-retired tradie and I have always eaten lunch while I work without stopping due to very unreasonable deadlines. So in general, there is no need to offer lunch as most tradies bring their own or send the apprentice to buy some. But as for me, I have always appreciated the offer of a nice hot coffee.

When you're ready to get married, it takes a lot out of you in planning. One of the tasks is when you organise your wedding party with your close friends/family into the party. When you have the matron of honour or best man to help you in organising, are you expecting them to step up & spend so much money on you regardless if they can afford it or not. In my opinion, I strongly believe that it is so rude on the bride to be to ask for everything that she needs to be top $. A...

It's possible to choose your baby's gender and eye colour now and in theory it's also possible to genetically edit genes to enhance an unborn baby's health or appearance... but the big question is, when and if it becomes available, should we do it? What might the downfalls or benefits be, and would you choose to enhance your unborn children features if you could?
Rebecca B 614374
Oh, for goodness' sake, what next? Can't people be happy just to be able to have a baby at all? There are some of us who would have dearly loved to have had kids but were never able to. Just be satisfied with whatever you are blessed with!

There is growing evidence mounting that eating meat and animal products is detrimental to our health. It's natural to feel more pessimistic when things aren't going so well in our lives. Regular or even constant negative thinking can also be a sign of anxiety, depression, stress or low self-esteem. What are your thoughts? What causes negative thinking and how to overcome it?

I always tell myself those thoughts don’t pay rent in my head so I automatically kick out them negative thoughts.

Scientists tell us the best way to protect endangered species is to protect the special places where they live. Wildlife must have places to find food, shelter and raise their young. Logging, oil and gas drilling, over-grazing and development all result in habitat destruction. Do you reckon it's still possible to restore the wildlife?
Sandy G 969046
There are parts of New Zealand that have done just that and have brought native species back from the brink of extinction. It takes effort, but it is possible.

The old cliche is: The rich are getting richer, and the poor are getting poorer! Australia is one of the richest nations in the world. Our percentage of Millionaires is --- growing. Our percentage of poor are also --- growing. Do you believe we should tax the wealthy more, to help the poor? How do we narrow the gap?
Therese C
OMG!! There it is cultural Marxist socialism , the path to communism.
A fast track to Universal basic income and being worker drones for the government with no freedoms and work for your government housing and food rations, A world where everyone is equally miserable.
The way to kill off any incentive to work hard for yourself and be successful.
All we need to do is get rid of corrupt politicians and STOP the insanity of the 2 party preferential voting for government.
It is 1% of the world's filthy rich billionaires who are controlling everything and they want you to ALL be poor while they grow richer and control you more.
Many millionaires have started out at the bottom, worked hard, taken chances and had a measure of good luck to get where they are.

Privacy in a relationship is something that should always be present secrecy isn't. I'm curious about your thoughts. Is it okay to have secrets in a relationship?
Elvira D 70287
it is not okay to have secrets in a relationship, it's all about being honest and upfront because without trust there is no relationship, and having secrets in a relationship can cause troubles down the track.

I recently box trapped two beautiful cats, that were so starved. Now their hair is getting long, they are so very beautiful. Today they got gifts from Santa. They are enjoying playing with the toys, their treats, and the warmth from our wood stove.

Don't trap stray cats. Kill them if anything. I know this sounds harsh. but they are a pest to native birds etc in our country. trap and kill. do not trap and feed!!!! I'm horrified by your logic. We have now got open days here to kill all stray feral cats humanely.

In our current Western societies we are multicultural, all inclusive and embrace all races and religions, no matter what your religion, you are allowed to practice it somewhere, all together, with those who believe the same things. Is it good to have a retirement age after which one can stop working? This has both good and bad side. If there is a fixed age for retirement, the younger group can join the workforce and possible contribute better in most cases. However, the experienced person can also contribute special activities which require a lot of experience. For example: when we go to a doctor, particularly for critical illness, we always look for an experienced doctor. Further, retirement...
Elizabeth T 396096
In reality, you can retire at any age if you have the financial means to do so. What you are talking about is retirement age to either access superannuation or a government pension. I hate how the age has increased due to what the government perceives as "aging population". The old system of "voluntary retirement at 55" is much better than "work until you die" mentality which prevails today. (Obviously, voluntary retirement at 55 was to access superannuation and NOT welfare and you can no longer do this as the minimum retirement age is 10-20 years higher for most people currently working and this is awful).

I'm curious to see what people have to say about that. I personally talk to my cat and dog all the time! They are good listeners, and they don't judge me, and they're always happy to see me, lol
Linda C
Yes of course. She is my companion and she knows so much it surprises me. I have been told that some dogs know as much as a 2 year old and I believe that. I taught her commands by talking and hand movements so she responds to either but I can say things like you are on the wrong side and she changes side, which way do we go today and she looks left and right and then decides etc. I often think I should write down what she knows just out of curiosity but she surprises me all the time understanding even more. Animals are amazing creatures.

Do you think there'll be an end to seniors receiving government pensions by the year 2073 or in 50-yrs? It's been a century's long stable way of living while enabling seniors to enjoy their later years. And do you think it's a good idea to put off retirement until after the age of 70 instead f taking an earlier retirement? Where I live, a senior can be qualified as a person 55+ albeit even though they are still working & haven't yet retired from the work force.
Maz 1376468
I think that people who have worked all their life should be able to have some retirement life before they become too frail. Retirement age should be 65 yrs and if people want to work longer they can and have tax benefits. Everyone has a different lifestyle and health. Some people already end up unable to work at 65 due to ill health, just look at the aging population that end up in Nursing Homes who are in their early 70s. Let there be a small time in life to enjoy some retirement

I believe TV was much better to watch in the olden days, as it used to have heaps of children & family programmes compared to these days. I used to love the older shows more than now, remember any animal shows like Skippy, Rin-Tin-Tin, Lassie, Flipper or such good movies like Shirly Temple, TV shows like Little House on the Prairie, The Brady Bunch, Lost in Space etc. These were the best time growing up & you never forget them. What is there on...
Paula J 395266
I agree with you completely, TV was better in my childhood. There was no bad language, no sex and no bloody murders. We lived in a blissful world where we were allowed to have a childhood. Right was right and wrong was wrong and there was no grey area, Superman would always save the day. Around the 70's the so called educators graduated from uni and decided for us that children should not grow up thinking everything will work out for the best and that they should not be taught about God but sex instead. Noddy and Big ears were perverts and we can't have a golly wog. Children should know that you die, can be murdered and all sorts of horrible things can happen to you so stranger danger dialled up full speed. No more fairy tales or dreaming of meeting a prince. I couldn't believe a mother told her son that Prince Charming was molesting Snow White. How sad is that. Children are now confronted with the horrible facts of life, and it's cruel in my opinion. They are afraid of climate change, endangered species and being buried alive underneath piles of rubbish. They get political correctness, gender issues and now having to apologise to indigenous people for stealing their land. Is it any wonder young people feel that they have no hope, they need drugs, are depressed and have high rates of suicide. On the other hand, how are we coping, we who grew up with Superman and fairy tales? Very well thank you.

Are you sick of proving to robots that you are not a robot? Are you annoyed when a robot or AI interface insists you are a robot? What are the most annoying steps you have been forced to endure to prove your humanity (not just in surveys, but in real life) and has failing a test that is supposedly something only a robot can fail inconvenienced you? Being chronically late isn t just rude or inconvenient it s now considered a medical condition. A person recently went viral on TikTok for saying in a tearful video that she was reprimanded for asking for accommodation for "time blindness," a condition she said makes it harder to show up for work on time. People with time blindness struggle to keep track of and estimate time. So, is being late a real medical condition?

For me, it's all the following : 1. Any survey that wants my specific contact details as in name, address, email etc is a no-go for me. I don't mean general info like post code, but actual address etc. 2. Surveys that want to record my facial reactions - no, thank you buddy-not using my camera for surveys at all 3. Surveys that expect you to download an app on your phone or device, so they can track your internet use/ ads viewed etc. Not happening. 4. Surveys...

My other special dislikes are those endlessly repeated preliminary questions which are a waste of time such as:
1) If you had a Superpower what would you want to be able to do?
2) What are your views on technology?
3) What is your favourite meal?
Just what is the point of them?
The other is when you click on a survey and are told that your profile doesn't match but "We have another survey which does" (or words to that effect) so you click on that only to have the same response multiple times. Either our profile matches or it doesn't!

Do you strictly prefer the IQ system or do you value other factors more like social intelligence, quick thinking ability, an amazing memory, possessing highly specialised skills or knowledge, creativity level, or a general knowledge champion etc? I read a book where a couple gets married, and the husband made it clear they wouldn't live together. He said they'd avoid getting on each other's nerves, invading the other's space, and never have to worry about familiarity breeding contempt. After the usual misunderstandings and stuff that happens in novels, at the end they had their "happily ever after", but still lived in separate houses! In real life, would this be a good idea?
Helen A 395807
It is actually better for the woman and not the man. Married men who live with their wives live longer whereas it is the opposite for women. But whatever floats your boat, is okay I reckon.

It's hard to leave the house when it's raining/windy/cold out, yet as a teenager/20's was out in all weather AND without a jacket! (Yes, living on the edge) What about you? Is it an age thing, or preferences changing?
BLACK LIVES MATTER
I reside (moved to a warm weather area - Southern Sunny California) in Southern Sunny California for almost 39 years, and it has been almost 39 years since I have to deal with cold weather (however, Southern Sunny California is basically a desert - not a lot of rainfall on an annually basis in Southern Sunny California - I actually look forward to rainy days in Southern Sunny California). I will have to relocate to the MOON - to get away from windy days (LOL)! I guess dealing with cold weather (at my age - now) would be living on the edge - because my survival flexes are too slow to survive in a cold weather (locale) environment (my survival reflexes got spoiled my residing in Southern Sunny California for such a long time) - I would literately and figuratively freeze to death in a cold-weather site (these days) - within hours - LOL!

The U.S is experiencing a financial crash right now, with many smaller banks closing their doors. Will this have a global knock on affect and if so, what will you do if your bank suffers too?
BLACK LIVES MATTER
One, only ONE small bank - Silicon Valley Bank is having financial problems and this (that) bank HAS NOT closed its' door. Two, it is not unusual for a few banks in the USA to collapse 'every' year - this is the first bank in the USA to have financial issues in six hundred 'days' which makes it stand out. If you have an account with Silicon Valley Bank and your account is not over $250,000 dollars you are insured and will get $250,000 dollars back from F.D.I.C. (a federal agency). The bank in question over-extend itself by making questionable loans to high-tech start-up companies without locking down real (physical) assets. The high-tech start-up companies are in trouble - not Silicon Valley Bank. FYI: The USA and the world survive the Banking Scandal of 2008 - 'one bank' - Silcon Valley Bank' issues is not going to cause a domino. effect and bring down the banking industry in the USA. However, it is a public relations nightmare, and the "feds" (aka federal government banking oversight agency) royally mishandled the Silcon Valley Bank situation.

Why are truck drivers so inconsiderate and reckless driving how they swerve from Lane to Lane cut cars off, run cars onto the shoulder why do they do this can you tell me why?
Margaret B 429563
Excuse me!? I think you will find most long distance truckies are the most considerate and consistently safest drivers on the road. It is the impatient arrogance and rudeness of other road users that cause the accidents and other issues on the road! These giant machines weigh an awful lot (tons) and they require both room and space to stop their vehicles and/or turn corners, especially suburban intersections. They also have large areas of 'blind spots' where they simply cannot see cars & other vehicles - just like blind spots in a ar, on.y bigger. If you have any concerns re truck drivers and their driving, might I suggest you do a little research and take a bit more caution on the road to ensure your own safety and that of the truck drivers, too ??

Food costs, housing, every day living rising. Will society collapse? Can we make it through without government intervention (if any)? Of course, certain people and corporations are making a mint, but what about every day people? How are you managing, and what are you doing to combat increases? Yes, a lot of questions, but they are interconnected.

I am patiently, calmly and faithfully waiting for the return of our Christ Jesus to return! Call me what you want, but I have Faith in God's words recorded in His instruction book, the Bible, that says soon Jesus will return with his angelic forces, and, "The righteous will possess the earth, and they will live forever on it." Psalm 37:29. Don't believe me? Believe what the Bible says in Psalm Chapter 37! Then, read Isaiah 65:17-25 to see how it will be living on a paradise earth, forever, as God intended it to be! I can hardly wait for this old system to end! ;-D

Do you think you pay a fair price for prescription Medication? Have you ever paid a lot for Medicines? What, if any, would you like listed on the Government subsidy-list?
Jania S
I thank God, that we were born before USA gave Australia a regime change in 1973-6 when doctors were doctors and they knew that there are lots of natural items to keep you heathy, These things are still available but doctors cannot tell you, High blood pressure can be prevented and managed by natural means just like flu [2020-rename-ccv] etc etc. Amazing how natural things like Garlic, lemons, grapefruit, ginger, tumeric etc can keep you healthy. BUT I am thankful for the Australian medicare system, where we still pay 2.5% of our salary for the privilege. and I am not in USA where they murder people by over medication.... Love of Money is root of all evil.

People get marry for one reason in a capitalist country - money (or if you prefer an upgrade in their lifestyle). Capitalist countries have the highest divorce rate on the planet. Why do you think people get marry in a capitalist country?
MoB
From someone who has been married for 52 years it's easy to see why people don't stay married. Firstly they get together for lust, they spend more than a deposit on a house for a wedding, mostly to impress others. After a couple of years, not being able to save or do things they want to do and the lust wearing off, they want out. Then because they have children or pets a divorce costs another fortune. To get married for love you don't need a big wedding, you need to be aware of your partners faults and they of yours. Then you need to work together to stay in love with them warts and all. Don't start a family for a couple of years that gives you time for each other and to save. If you are in love staying home together and saving hard is no issue. When children come along you are then able to share your love and give them a stable home life. Unfortunately its all about what you have now, house, car, boat etc. most of which are not yet paid for. Love doesn't care if you are communist or capitalist it matters to the two people involved.

Do you have any dreams, weird or not, that actually turn out that part of it is true? I had a dream last week and Prince Edward's wife, Sophie, was in it. We were just talking and then she started writing. I noticed that she was writing with her left hand. I said another lefty. Likewise, I'm also a lefty. When I woke up, I googled to see if she was a lefty, and she is indeed a lefty.

I have been having unusual dreams and de ja vu since I was very small. The most disturbing was a reoccurring dream of a close friend going away, for about 3 months every night this included other people and places they went . My friend was killed 3 days later, same car same accident, and everyone in the dream did what I saw. I have never been the same

Do you believe that people should have the right to have a doctor assisted suicide? People that live in incredible pain, people that are so depressed that they want to die. Thoughts?
Michelle S 553303
I spent many years working as a Palliative Care nurse and in Aged Care situations as an RN. Assisted suicide is a normal part of end of life care for some and terminal sedation is a practice that has been practised for many years. I remember an incident in a public hospital I worked in, and we were warned not to discuss it, but it was more than a decade ago. An elderly man had very bad frontal lobe or Dewy Body Dementia. He was being cared for at home because he had been previously admitted to other Nursing homes in and around this area, but due to him flinging his fists around and utterly refusing personal care because he no longer understood what these strangers were doing to him, his physical health was suffering and they wouldn't have him back again. He wasn't getting nutrition, hydration and as he was doubly incontinent he was getting bad excoriation on his privates and the pain from this was causing more negative behaviour. He would refuse tablets and spit them out if the nurse DID manage to get them in his mouth and consequently he wasn't even getting the antipsychotics and calmatives he needed so he could recieve adequate care. So we have a human being who is just a mere shell of who he was, and that was an absolute creep as we remembered him from long ago, who's family could no longer cope, were out of resources and had ZERO other options for care. So the decision was made with his specialists, local GP and family to bring him into the hospital for terminal sedation. We were NOT obliged to care for him and we had the option to refuse to give the medication that would take him away from this earthly plane of existence. From my recollection it took about 72 hours for his heart to stop. He hadn't been the man he was for some time and his family had already grieved that loss some time ago. All there was now was relief and thankfulness that neither would suffer any longer. I'd be interested if anybody has a suggestion as to how THEY might have managed this situation if THEY had been this man's family. I suffer pain all the time and sometimes it's so bad that I wish it was all over. Nobody has the right to tell me that my suffering isn't bad enough to warrant me thinking of a permanent way out. I take painkillers but you become used to them after some time and the efficacy reduces. But people should be able to choose to end their lives on their own terms and we show animals that kindness. Why NOT humans who are suffering?

It's my birthday today (47) and if people are into superficial, well so be it. I find it annoying people continually posting their points as an answer to someone's carefully thought out discussion and polls questions lf you've got nothing constructive to say then don't tell us you got 2 pts we don't care! If you got points and want to add an extra little comment to that ,then fine .. l think it's an insult to some of the more sensitive topics posted that these people just don't even read the question and just want to let everyone know about themselves and the fact they got less than 0.1c to be on there .

Whether $60 a week is enough for groceries for one person depends on a variety of factors, including location, dietary needs, food prices, and personal habits. In many parts of the world, basic grocery costs have risen significantly due to inflation, supply chain pressures, and higher costs for fresh produce, meat, and staples. How is it where you live? Is $60 a week enough for groceries for one person?

Is $60 a week enough money to buy groceries for one person? Don't know. I am single (and I only have one mouth too feed - ME). I am a vegetarian (and I do not buy meat). Many plants considered to be non-native are classified as invasive weeds, which need to be removed to prevent their proliferation and degradation of the environment. Surprisingly, they have not been banned by authorities and are available to buy in plant nurseries. Examples of these are English ivy, honeysuckle, gazania, agapanthus. Would you knowingly buy these sorts of plants and put them in your garden because you like them?

Whenever I'm out and about, either walking or on my bike, if I see rubbish on the ground I will pick it up and bin it. Especially if that rubbish is near a water source such as a river or beach. There is already so my pollution and rubbish in our oceans. If we all took a little bit of time to do the same, it would make a big difference. We have to respect our world and keep the planet clean to future generations.
Che 1725508
I grew up an army brat in a large family and we spent a large amount of our free time outside - exploring! If we ignored rubbish outside and my parents found out, we would get extra chores (usually picking up rubbish) and would lose our allowance for a week. Those were the days!!

My granddaughter, after working for 2 years, lost her job last night. She was fired because at 15, she smelled of cigarette smoke, she lives with her nana [who smokes] she works [worked ] in a deli where the other 5 people smoked and the boss who smokes told her she smelled of smoke so therefore, she smokes, She hates smokes and hates the smell, has asked people in our home to please smoke outside including nana has defriened friends because they had taken up smoking yet...
Paula J 395266
Are you in Australia, if so the employer has broken the law. Your granddaughter can take them to the tribunal for unfair dismissal, and if a person who gets fired for stealing can get their job back because the employer didn't tell them they were under surveillance, a non-smoking person should certainly get their job back because they smell of cigarette smoke. I hope you can get some satisfaction.

The dreams I had when I was younger were shaped by innocence and imagination. I believed life would follow a straight path, and success would come at a certain age. Back then, everything felt possible and simple. As time passed, experiences, responsibilities, and realities changed those dreams. Some goals felt unrealistic, others no longer felt meaningful. It wasn t failure, it was growth. Life taught me more about myself than any plan ever. Sometimes letting go of an old...

Actually my 14yr old has one, its a good way to keep her safe while out by herself or with friends etc.

I was wondering if you have started a new hobby. You may have recently retired, or you have more time on your hands. This extra time has led you to begin a new hobby. One that you never thought you'd take up. But here you are playing and doing it. For me, I took up Chess. I never thought I would be learning chess, but I am, and I'm really, really enjoying it. What new hobby have you taken up?

What's the weirdest food combo you secretly love, but would never admit in public? I'm not talking garden variety stuff like pineapple on pizza, but ones that others in your life have told you are odd or that you think strangers might think of it that way. E.g. peanut butter and mayo ... Soy sauce on vanilla ice cream Bacon dipped in chocolate or maple icing Pepsi + milk

With the advent of so many big four-wheel drives on the roads now, I think it's time to widen parking bays. Every new car park should have wider bays. A couple of times, I've come back to my car and had to hop in the passenger side, as there was no room for me on the driver's side. Perhaps start to widen the bays in the current car parks.
Hanno.
I don't have any parking worries anymore since I had to pension my car off because of the rust issues. But on walking through most carparks I have found that the standard of parking is atrocious. There are a lot of drivers out there who should not be allowed on the road.

We are packing up and leaving the city after 40 years. We are moving to a small beach community near the coast. It is heartbreaking leaving an area after so long. I'm ambivalent. My husband wants the change, but I still have many doubts about the long-term success of this venture. Have you been through this? What are your thoughts?
Angie
Yes, I have been through this exact thing several times, and after my divorce I sold everything and moved to a small beach community where I have spent the last 8 years. It was the best decision I ever made. My daughter (9 at the time) and I loved every minute of our time here.
She did leave home at 16 for a better education back in Auckland and lives with her amazing Dad.
So life for me up here now is no longer what it was. Plus I took on an extremely stressful job, which has recently been too much and I walked out last week.
So now, Elizabeth, I am doing it all again. Packing up, selling up and moving on.
With the money I get for the sale of my property, I am buying a camper van and hitting the road, and hoping my money will last for a very long time as I have no intention of going back into a job I hate.
Maybe I might go fruit picking along the way!

My grand-children came for a visit for a few days, which I was happy for. However, the 11-year-old boy, was out of control. He started sliding down the banister, turning the lights on and off, playing with the radio station and setting the alarm clock to go off at 3 a.m. His mom didn't discipline him. My partner and I spoke up, and she just made up excuses for him. We all went hiking, and the 11 year old was breaking branches and leaving them on the sidewalk....
Rusty .. (vic)
Our grandson had ODD, which is Opposition Defiant Disorder. to get around this, we dont ask or tell him to do stuff, but say, if you clean your room, we can do this or that. If he asks when are we going to do it, I will say, when your room is clean. Its his choice, then, and saves a lot of arguing.

I think security guards should be given more power. They can't touch anyone, and I think they should be able to stop shoplifters. Maybe allow them to carry tasers. A case in Woolworths where a staff member reported to a security guard that some people had walked out without paying. He confronted them, they swore at him, and kept walking out. What could he do? What does everyone think?
Chosen
Just let them all have one big angry dog at their side. Shoplifters will be more scared of the dog than the security guard.

I have some psychic ability which manifests itself in being at locations where something serious will happen shortly after, mentioning obscure subjects that become topics on the radio, talking about rarely heard songs that suddenly play on TV or the radio, and many other incidents. I believe that there is psychic energy floating about, much like ultraviolet radiation and gamma rays. I also believe that some people are strong receivers of that psychic energy. Do you think that...

My husband and I are planning to downsize from our family home. Do you have any tips for planning such a major lifestyle change and ways of copying with living in a smaller space?
Linda C
Depends on the size of your home now to the one you are going into I guess. I go through my home every year and throw out, give away or take things to the charity shop that I think I no longer need or use. So decluttering is something I have always done.
Number one - be very sure you want to downsize first.
Number two - make sure you are financially better off as even a small move to a new place costs fees, removalist, taxes etc.
and this can add up to $1000's
Number three - make sure you love the new area you move to, and it has all the amenities, hospitals, etc. you require

Should we keep the school year as it has always been, or should children attend school year-round? What are your thoughts?

I would love the kids to attend more school than they do but I really would love to see them learn more by using their brain not google/computers and such, basic schooling writing/spelling and life skills have fallen by the wayside a touch I feel,

The underlying assumption was that if you worked hard enough for long enough, you would succeed. However, this advice misses one big point: Most people fail not because of a lack of effort, but because their effort was misdirected or misaligned with their interests. Don't get me wrong. Hard work matters for success. What would you say? Do people who work hard really succeed in life?

Started work at 16, I remember my first pay packet, 36 dollars. I was rich, I could conquer the world. For 2 years, I paid my mum board, bought what I wanted, and saved. When 18, life discovered me, and I had a lot of fun for a few years. We toured Australia, did a lot of things I shouldn't, got into the credit system, discovered booze/girls, and by 26 i had a baby and a wife, life stopped as i knew it a new life had begun, at 62 i am living week by week i have 3 kids and 3 grandkids i do some volunteer work at the local schools,,,i have never been more happy or successful i have no desire for money i have prepaid my bills out 6 months ahead have a reasonable garden, i want for nothing except smiles on my grankids faces, I've worked hard, played hard ,had lots of coin but i have never felt more successful when i see my grandkids laugh when i see them use manners when i hear what wonderful kids you have there

When you're looking after someone else's child in your care & they do something wrong, you as a carer, do you have the right to discipline that child? I believe yes to some point, by not being harshly & by speaking to them & explaining to them what they did & how to make it better. Also, if hurting another child, you can give them time out for 5 10 mins to defuse the situation & speak to their parents. When it comes to being outdoor, I believe you have no right to speak to...

Up until the age of electronic ignition and fuel injection I always did my own servicing. Nowadays, I hardly recognise anything under the bonnet except the dipstick, the radiator cap and the windscreen washer reservoir. How about you?
Rebecca B 614374
I agree. Once upon a time cars were pretty simple and even Blind Freddy could take care of most things. Nowadays you need a science degree to figure out anything with them. Perhaps I'm just cynical, but I do wonder whether that was the idea - to make things so difficult and high-tech that people are forced to part with more of their hard-earned dollars just to get the most basic things done.

Now that we're in 2025 and so much of reading and research has gone digital, do you think libraries should evolve into more community-entered spaces for things like coworking, events, tech access, or even mental health resources? Or should they stick to their traditional role of housing books and offering a quiet place to read? Curious how others see the future of libraries!
David 1634933
Yes, but I have a vested interest in them staying. We offer many services at no cost to the public. We also provide workshops that help the community. We encourage life long learning and a love of reading.

When someone says to you, 'Act your Age'! What does that mean to you? Does it get you angry? Does it get you confused? What does this really mean? And why do people persistently use this term? Judgemental much? I have never known what to do in this situation, because I have just acted my 'normal' me?? Is there an expectation how someone should at when they are 66? As opposed to when you are 15? Yes, I am confused.....
Manaia 1693487
“Act your age” is often more about the speaker’s discomfort than your behavior. It’s a phrase rooted in expectation, judgment, and often an outdated sense of decorum.
You, being yourself—at any age—is not only valid but important. Life doesn’t come with a personality timeline. Playfulness, curiosity, humor, and even rebellion don’t expire at 40, 60, or 80.

One of the richest men in the world and founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, married his long time fiance last weekend in Venice. A who's who of Hollywood was flown in to share in the festivities, which included hand made Pizza's to suite the theme days and parties. The wedding dress was skin tight with a huge train and along with all the other extravagances came to a grand total of $70 million AUD. So does this huge sum of money guarantee a long and happy...
Bugalugs
No, As we have seen so often these high profil;e marriages often end in very bitter divirce. Though nowhere near as rich as Bezos check out the English Royal Families record! the late queen had 4 children. of them only one. dspite their enormous wealth, has remained married to their first, Edward has remained with his wife. Anne married, dicorced, married, Andrew Married, Divorced but still allegedly in some sort of relationship with Sarah, Charles forced into an entirley inappropriate marriage with Diana, this despite Charles having been in a relationship for many decades with Camilla, that marriage ended in a very bitter divorce and evantually Charles was allowed to marry the only woman he ever truly Loved, Camilla. You may noy like this but I think the late queen was largely responsible for all this unhappiness within her family. First, she would not allow her own sister, Margaret, to marry the only man she ever really loved. Why? Because the Anglican Church, of which Elizabeth was the head, disapproved of Divorce - strange that because the reason for the creation of it was so that the syphilitic Henry XVIII wanted a divorce. Just look at the disaster Margaret's life became. That ban by Elizabeth was downright cruel because Margaret by that time would never, ever have come to the English Throne. Charles' only True Love was Camilla but Elizabeth would not, as the head of the Anmglican Church, allow Charles to marry a Divorcee and the only rerason this Control Freak of Control Freaks gave in was because she knew that as soon as she died Charles would probably marry Camilla anyway. She, reportedly one of the Richest, if not the Richest Woman in the World, condemned Charles and Diana to a life of misery. Why? Because Diana was a Virgin.
Just think of what all those $US70 million Bezos wasted could have done to help so many of those in desperate need of Food, Clean Drinking Water and Medicines.

With the exponential boom in all manifestations of AI, almost any question can be answered. Generative AI means we don't need to learn; only to ask, ask, refine and ask again. And the more we keep asking, the better the AI answers become. Does this mean the world no longer needs teachers?
boy blunder
I'm 62 and I'm learning every day from the people around me, I'm learning things AI will never know because they are not human, you cannot teach compassion, you cannot teach respect you cannot teach humility you learn these things by living and experiencing life, not by entering facts and figures into a machine,

Relationships and money go hand-in-hand. Here's how you can improve in both areas, from experts. Money can't buy happiness, but it can definitely impact your romantic relationships. What would you say? Can a relationship work with no money?
Janet 1621979
HERE IS MY STORY: i had been divorced for several years and I eventually met a man ON LINE (don't laugh) who just lived a few streets from me - AND we were driving IDENTICAL CARS. Same colour everything. I HAD 20 wonderful years with this man - we travelled to quite a few different countries - so many wonderful memories. We each did our own thing with money - paid our half for holidays and both lived in our own houses. Money was never an issue. Unfortunately he ended up dying of cancer - OR I WOULD STILL BE WITH HIM. I will GUARANTEE you this - MONEY would never buy what I had - IT IS CALLED RESPECT.

Why do people bother posting negative comments about the recipes other members share? If you don t like a recipe (or an ingredient in one), just move on! Your contribution does not make anyone feel better and has the potential to hurt. As Thumper from Bambi said: If you can t say nothing nice, don t say nothing at all .
NotFriedLikeMost
Your argument...."if people don't like a recipe (in this case) just move on" can literally be stated for ANYTHING PUT ONTO A SOCIAL MEDIA TYPE SITE, lol.
The point of a "social media type site" is that ANYONE can post whatever they want....and ANYONE can reply however they want. If YOU don't like the replies, then YOU can choose to ignore them.
Now, I do agree with you that people should just keep quiet, but, do you truly think ANYONE is going to NOT say something? A bit naive, in my humblest of opinions.

Now that I have done this, I have purchased an iPhone and so now any movement is recorded, and I can see it on my phone when ever I am at a doctor's office or where ever I am. As a family, we don't get together as often as we would like. But, on the special occasions that we do, Christmas, birthdays etc, there is always one family member who ends up "sick" on the day & never turns up. This happens constantly. The partner always comes with his children. Is this a next generation occurrence? Does this happen to anyone else?
Teri 1282723
I think "sick" may stress out over seeing someone in particular there. This could be an issue, or maybe "sick" can't stand a crowd. "Sick" can cover a whole lot of things. Also, if this person is suffering from stress or anxiety, they may be giving themselves a headache, body aches, throwing up, all kinds of physical ways that mental stress affects us. I suggest you contact "sick" and ask if a crowd is too much or if it's personal with one or two people. If it's personal you can suggest they talk and fix it, and if it's the crowd be understanding and give the space. Maybe people can meet up in small groups of 2 or 3 people just to keep contact without causing anyone grief.
Personally, my first family doesn't get together so much anymore. A couple of them are Trump cult members and anything they don't agree with about him is seen as fake news and he's a good Christian man. Blugh. I meet up with the sisters and brothers that I DO want to see and can have conversations with. I just met up with my daughter and one of hers and spent several hours together. The other granddaughter had to work but we'll get together again soon. I really appreciate any time I can get with my kids and grandkids even if it's not on the specific holidays.

Overspending. The interest-free installments and smaller payment amounts can make larger purchases seem more affordable than they really are. While no conclusive evidence has yet been found of extraterrestrial life, scientists are seeking out worlds like K2-18b with hydrogen-rich atmospheres that astronomers believe to be covered in liquid water. Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental health condition in which people have an unreasonably high sense of their own importance. They need and seek too much attention and want people to admire them. People with this disorder may lack the ability to understand or care about the feelings of others. What would you say? Is narcissism a choice or a disorder?

I think NPD is in the DNA. My previous partner is NPD. He knows how to manipulate and abuse me, both emotionally and financially. He shows the inflated public image as a generous and kind person to the others. Therefore nobody knows what he did to me behind the closed door. I tried to help him out but ended up being put in a vulnerable position myself.
Ironically, he now is single, poor, does not have any friends, does not have a job, does not have his own place to live when he is almost 50 years old. He appeared to have trouble securing the next supply (new victim) except his own mother after we broke up almost 20 years ago. He is a lot worse now especially the monetary exploitation aspect.
Set the healthy boundaries with the others. Look after yourself and stay safe.

From my perspective, levels of politeness had decreased overwhelmingly over the decades. What would you say? Are people becoming less polite nowadays?
Lachelle B
1. Technology is contributing to less socialisation. Kids are put in front of screens before, during and after school. Self checkouts - no need to talk to anyone. Landlines - becoming obsolete. Shopping - online no interaction. 2. Political correctness. You are what now? My joke offended you? What does that term even mean? We don't want to speak up in case we offend someone or something. Yes we are less polite, we're creating it.

With all the discussions about carbon footprints lately in the media, I have tried to reduce mine. I buy secondhand if I can, have reduced car trips by carpooling and walking. But for me, the biggest hassle is food packaging, mainly plastics on food products, most of this plastic is not recyclable and ends up in the bin. I'm at a point now, where I choose not to buy certain food products because of packaging, however I do go to refillable places like the bin in where possible....

In Australia I hate the meat packaging that goes on in Woolworths and Coles whereby you need a pair of scissors or a very sharp knife to open the hard plastic covering. Why they introduced this is beyond me.

How many times you enter any shop & purchase anything & you choose to pay by card as it is easier than cash. I do via my debit card which is my own money not even via a credit card, anyway as it is safer, gives you a acknowledgment of a receipt of what you have spent & you always have a tally of where your money for that day has gone. What I always like to do is many times check the receipts against your bank statement & you find out that most shops end up charging you a...
BLACK LIVES MATTER
I paid for daily items by cash (if a business entity doesn't accept cash - the business entity will lose a customer - me). I pay for MAJOR items (maintenance fees, telephone, electricity, internet, etc.) by USPS.money orders. Slightly more expensive but I am trying to leave a small digital trail as possible to AVOID DIGITAL SCAMMERS.

I have always helped out my kids if I can. But recently, various ventures have started to strain on finances a bit too much. When is it time to say that it is right to cut the apron strings?

Never too much for me… I’ll put my daughter’s needs before my own till the day I die. Isn’t that what being a parent is…? If you can’t make sacrifices, then don’t breed

My husband after 25 years decided to quit his job in Sept. He hasn't filed for UIC. Just lays on couch all day and does nothing. When l ask him to do something while l'm at work he doesn't his answer I forgot about it. Any ideas how to get him moving again?
Christina C 466456
Is he going through a midlife crises perhaps? Dealing with grief etc? It's not normal for people to just want to sit on a couch and do nothing all of a sudden, unless he's just started retirement and wants a break for a little while. Otherwise there may be depression or some underlying problem.
If you want to help him then do things to help him boost his confidence and challenge himself. Perhaps further study or reassessing what career he's passionate about. Even something as simple as learning another language is good as it's useful in everyday life as well as job prospects. Remind him that he needs to maintain skills to keep them - if you don't use it you lose it as the saying goes and same goes with our physical health like muscle tone - we've all seen images of the stereotypical couch potato. Remind him he needs to look after himself enough so he doesn't slacken.
It sounds like something may have happened in his job maybe. That maybe a good start to getting to the bottom of what's going on in his life. Perhaps he was fired and didn't tell you? Maybe he had a toxic boss or co worker that forced him out of the job. People don't just quit their job for no reason if it's a good job. Maybe ge needs to do some soul searching and is tired of that career path. You're gonna have to figure it out with him.

A survey among general practitioners revealed that a daily intake of wine larger than 600ml for men and 500ml for women is considered harmful by some healthcare professionals. This further supports the notion that 750ml of wine each night may be excessive and potentially detrimental to health 3. What would you say? Is it normal to drink wine every night?
Andrew C 287196
These silly, highly flawed studies, are ridiculous. There's a new one every other week that contradicts the previous one. One week a silly study "proves" something is good for you, the next week another silly study "proves" it is bad for you. The idiotic way the media reports these silly studies simply adds to the confusion and potential health dangers.
The reality is that for most food and drink, consuming them *sensibly* is fine, but having excessive amounts of anything is dangerous (including plain water). Just eat and drink whatever you want sensibly, and do what your doctor tells you to.

In Australia, they used to advertise for Secret Agents in the Papers...how wild is that?... I applied twice but didn't even get an interview I also applied twice to go out and work on the ice stations at the South Pole ...you do a six month "tour"....but no joy there either...how about you? I would have had a go at the oil rigs too when I was younger!....but they didn't advertise....

My daughters saw an advertisement for someone to host a new T.V programme and secretly sent in my photo and form. I was surprised to receive an interview and audition but turned up to feel like I was everyone else's Mum. There were models, lycra clad fitness fanatics and glamorous 'wannabes'. I turned to leave but got called back by the receptionist to go into the studio. I played it all for laughs, having nothing to lose. I got the job!!! Hosting a daytime current affairs programme. Today (40 years on) I now train hopefuls for their auditions in Film and TV.

There is no point arguing or wasting breath on someone who is so blinded to reality they cannot accept any other point of view.

I just did a survey where they clearly expected you to be paying monthly fees for a whole range of services. From the software you use...for all the music you listen to...to all you watch TV or your movies....leasing cars is another big contender too even for your food...REALLY! It's been gently gradual, and met no resistance so far. Easy money ... it's a perfect Corporate Future ... we are always in their debt, and we own nothing. THAT'S why they are...
Jennine 1587631
It is what the new world order wants but they are unrealistic in that many people are on low incomes and are not going to be able to afford their fees. There will be push back and there will be refusal and making do and doing without. Some of us lived without cellphones, and computers for several decades and we can do it again. We have skills and knowledge that will help us get by. People in the city and burbs will be more controlled but a lot of rural areas are left and people are not going to move willing into the city or suburbs. We will survive There has actually been resistance in some regions and areas around the globe. People can live without a lot of things they think they need but they are just wants not needs however if they don't have the skills, knowledge and wisdom they will not do so well. We will have a cashless society soon and the NWO will implement compliance or we cannot buy or sell. But there is barter and trade. Many people will not survive and die. Some from famine /starvation, some from diseases and sickness, some will be enslaved, some murdered. Some from floods, and hurricanes and bad weather or fires. NWO wants 15-30 minute cities as well. We might not have electricity to play movies or music. Better buy books, games, cards, and musical instrumants that can be utilized for entertainment. Learn to can, dry and preserve what food you can and to gather food as well. I know and have those skills and knowledge as do my adult children and some of my grandchildren as well. Do you know edible wild food and what is poison or not. Yes mushrooms, berries, catkins, and how to fix them. Wild game as well is another thing to trap or use other means for food, having a water source that is year around is also imperative. Do you know how to make food from scratch? Beans and Legumes and Rice and Oatmeal and Cornmeal or something you will need and flour, honey, sugar, salt, spices, Canned foods of various type and dried goods. Peanut butter and canned milk, powdered milk. Pastas are all important. The only perfection is for the elite wealthy everyone else will be their servants this has been desired for a couple centuries to get back to Lords, Ladies, Kings, Queens, Royalty and serfs and peon's. If you refuse they will consider you a criminal and you better know how to survive. They will leave some alone to the elements thinking they will die but not everyone will there will be survivors. The so called future the powers that be desire will not last they have never lasted. They will be overthrown an conquered as well. If you have no faith or belief you will comply if you have a faith you will survive and will not comply. It is not paranoia it is being prepared and ready for anything.

With Halloween just around the corner, I started thinking about ghosts. Do you believe in ghosts or paranormal activity? There are millions of people that testify to seeing things with their own two eyes that cannot be refuted. Do you have any personal experiences you'd like to share? With so many believers, how could ghosts and ghostly experiences not be real? Ghost hunting and paranormal investigating is a huge business these days.
Jennine 1587631
I do not believe in "ghosts" but I do know there are evil demonic spirits that impersonate loved ones. We need to be very careful about such things. Scriptures says to not engage them and command them to depart in The name of Jesus Christ.

I love to hang out my wash outdoors to dry fresh, smells so good, and love to bring them back in with the freshness from outdoors. How many others still hang out clothes? So many these days use dryers for convenience, I have a dryer, but I prefer fresh air and sunshine.
Laura W 363255
Always fresh air as don’t have dryer. Sheets feel so good & fresh! Australia has the best fresh air.

My father opened a door for two girls in their late teens or early twenties. One of them snapped at him, we re not handicapped you know, we can do that ourselves . Dad replied, I m dreadfully sorry, I was clearly mistaken in that I assumed you were both Ladies . One of them stormed ahead, while her mate collapsed in giggles. What is your story? What is the most polite rudeness you've ever witnessed?
APB
there is the story about the stewardess at gate 19 in the airport (I was told she worked for Virgin)...who was having an argument with a customer over his ticket...he said "Do you know who I am??...she lent forward turned on her microphone and "we have a passenger at gate 19 who doesn't know who he is"...she brought the house down!

Do you feel that the weather impacts your mood and daily life? In the cold months you are less energised and prefer to stay home compared to warmer months when you might go to see a show. I feel the weather and seasons definitely impact me, but I push myself to get out there and do things it just seems less enjoyable in the cooler weather

Of course it does! Hasn't anyone ever heard of SADS disorder?
It is a well known recognised disorder that some people suffer from.

"Stay positive no matter what happens." That's one simple piece of advice that changed my life. I learned the importance of this advice the hard way when my life was travelling along just nicely. What about you? What is one piece of simple advice that actually changed your life?
Carol S 657195
I had heard it for years but had no idea how to do it. My advice was to love myself. Finally, I realized that I was no worse than anyone else. We all have skeletons in our closets, but my depression would not allow me to forgive myself even though I knew I was a good person with a heart full of love for everyone. Finally, I figured out why I had done the things I was not proud of, and I realized anyone would have done the same in the same circumstances. Now I love myself, and it has changed my life completely!

Op shop shopping, has become very popular for all ages. I donate regularly when I have a "clean up." It is a great way for organisation's to make money. But, I have also noticed as the popularity has increased so have the prices! Would it not be better to keep prices low & guarantee more turnover? Have others noticed the changes?
Glenys H 310155
My husband and I manage a small op shop run by our church. We are all volunteers and with money raised (once overheads are paid) we donate a large portion to local groups and 2 international projects started by ladies living in our local area. Some of the major charity groups now employ coordinators, and pay some staff members and this is reflected in the pricing. We regularly have sales specials and reward our loyal local shoppers with a loyalty card giving a discount on their 8th visit. We have standardised pricing most clothing items are $4 each, childrens clothing 00000 - 14 are 5 items for $1; new items with tags and better quality items are priced accordingly and are on separate racks. We also have an understanding with local employment agencies whereby their clients going to a job interview can access clothing for the interview free of charge. Try to look for one of the independent op shops in your area because I am sure you will find that the prices are more reasonable and support your local area to a greater extent.
