My mother loved cooking, but I wasn't always wrapt with the meals she cooked. I wasn't keen on camp pie fritters, and she would cook rice until it was like glue, but she made wonderful apple dumplings and stews, but she also cooked things I have never been able to master. I can't cook Yorkshire pudding because the thought of such hot fat scares me. Her fried bread was great, but something else I haven't been able to get to taste like mums. Is there something your mum...

My mother was a HORRIBLE cook. My father was a HORRIBLE cook. Neither of my parents cooked anything that I wanted to eat more than once - sad but true - LOL!

With the cost-of-living crisis, will you be cutting back on travelling within your country or overseas, or will you still travel but cut back on other things? For example, spending less on experiences like theme parks while on holiday, or saving money by staying with family or friends ...

The last trip I took was from Texas to Washington state, where I've lived for the past 12 years. My "husband" was moving us here to retire, so I thought. We left TX May 3'rd and arrived in Oak Harbor, WA on May 20th, 2013. Worst 17 days of my life! He "said" his bank card wasn't working, so he begged, borrowed and maybe even stole to get us here. Slept in the vehicles that night, then got a room at the Navy Lodge on base here on Whidbey island. I don't even drive off island! Oh, sorry...He went to his sons graduation in TX and never returned! I was evicted from the Lodge on July 3'rd, 2013, went back to work until COVID-19, when I retired, again, at age 72. Sorry, guess I'm still venting... ;-(

Is there a dessert that you are very fond of and if it's on the menu, you always order it? My husband always orders either Tiramisu or Lava pudding, while I go for something sweeter. My favourites had always been either Pavlova or Eton mess, and I was very happy eating or even making them, that is until I tried Mango and sticky rice. It's delicious, but not always available. Mangos are only in season over Summer and sticky rice also has a season, but I have no idea...

The ultimate/age-old battle of the S"ex"s (Apologies to anyone who may be offended by the term, baby mama/daddy) As the wife/husband, do you/should you set boundaries in regard to your partner's baby mama/baby daddy and the In-laws? If so, what and how do you enforce them without drama? And what if your husbands/wives/spouses Ex or even any of the In-laws won't respect you or accept your guys relationship, causing unnecessary grief in the hope it will destroy...

My fiance and I are currently on a road trip through South Australia and Victoria. We booked our accommodation ahead of time and have been surprised that the majority of our stays have not involved any personal interaction with reception staff. We ve been given text messages to allow us to access our rooms, but there is no welcome from an actual person, even when staying at a traditional motel. We are paying a fair bit each night, and the places we re staying at are...

your expectation may or may not be reasonable. Did you research the hotel before booking? Did you speak to someone at the hotel to book? Or did you book online or through central reservations? If you spoke with someone and asked about what the check-in process looked like or somehow researched it in advance, you may be reasonable in expecting a more in-person experience. However, if you're booking experience did not involve any human interaction and you did not inquire about the check-in process, why would you expect a high-touch check-in experience.

Would you recognize a narcissist, if you either live beside them, work with them or actually live with them? I have experienced all the above, however, it took a while to realize what I was dealing with as I'm an easy going person who likes to give people the benefit of a doubt. How would you deal with a narcissist at work or a neighbor? I've added the definition: Narcissism refers to a personality trait characterized by an excessive focus on oneself, a need for...

The lives that narcissists ruin.. Now we have many country leaders who fall into that category. Their ability to wreck millions of lives is tragic. Do I need to name them? Let's say Russia, USA, North Korea, Israel.
While the definition notes that there are more male narcissists than females, believe me, the female ones certainly exist. Often they are more difficult to spot.

Experts suggest that nightmares reflect patterns of human behaviour and are linked to our personal experiences. They provide insight into our minds and emotions. Although interpreting bad dreams isn't an exact science, understanding common themes can shed light on why we experience these frightening scenarios. What would you say? What are nightmares trying to tell you?
Teri 1282723
My nightmares have been telling me that I was EXTREMELY traumatized by my ex-husband and with medication for PTSD I can usually just have bad dreams now where he's just yelling and threatening and not actually doing. I still have a nightmare now and then but not nearly as often. After 29 years it's frustrating that he still affects my life this way.

Does anyone go thrift shopping, and what are your favourite stores to visit if you do? I have noticed a resurgence in popularity recently, and maybe it s the cost of living or just interest in older repurposed items, but curious on what others think.
Glenystas
I manage an op shop/thrift store, and have noticed we are getting more customers. Mainly because so many of the chain stores have closed in our area (Rivers, Millers etc.) Our shop is manned by volunteers so are prices are lower than some of the shops that pay coordinators and managers. We also go with standardised pricing across the shop with a sperate rack for higher cost items. Our proceeds after expenses are given back to the community via donations to a variety of local groups such as the local food hub, carers groups, youth groups etc. It also a great opportunity to stop items going to land fill, we sell bags of rags to mechanics etc to dispose of clothing which is badly stained or torn.

I am in my early 40s with 2 children 11 and 12 years old, a couple of years ago I became ill and haven't been able to work since. I get a little bit of money every month for disability however it does not even come close to enough for our basic needs and believe me, we keep a very tight budget. My husband works, but it is still not enough each month for bills, gas, groceries and my extremely expensive medication. I want to take up a craft to sell for some extra money, but am not...
Smiley
Before you became ill, what did you do for work? Maybe you could use those skills to help you make some money? I haven't been able to hold down a PT or FT job since 2019 due to various health issues and I am a similar age to you (but have 4 kids). I would ask your family Dr or chemist where you get your medication for a Medicines Review, they will go over them with you, and if you let them know you're finding it hard to pay for your medication, they may be able to recommend a cheaper option. Your kids are still young, they will be fine with basics- buy no-name clothes (KMart, Big W, Best & Less if in Oz) and shop at op shops. You'll be fine without the brands and labels too- that will help to save a lot of money. Buy generic/store brand foods at the supermarkets and grow the more expensive fruit and veg if possible. When grocery shopping, don't pay more than $5/kg for fruit/veg and $15/kg or less for meats- these items are usually in season and affordable cuts that can be used in a variety of ways. As others have mentioned, join up to other survey sites, if you're in a metro area do focus groups- they often pay $40-$100/hr, but your often limited to doing 2-4 of these a year. Be honest as all market research places share a data base as well as a black list and they do know who is trying to do these on a regular basis to get more money or don't contribute honestly. Contact your utility providers and see if they can review your account/s, is there a different plan that would work better for your family. Cancel all TV subscriptions, only watch regular TV (ABC, 7, 9, 10 & SBS all have 3-6 channels offering different types of shows). Only buy new technology when what you currently have breaks or no longer works, you really do not need to update to a newer model just because it's new. Kids really do not need phones, the longer you can hold off getting them phones, the better (My kids get a basic phone for their 16th birthday, but i would have preferred to hold off until they turned 18). As for what else you can do to make extra money- sell those items around the house that you haven't used in a year or more. Sell on FB Marketplace, ebay, garage sales, gumtree, etc. Just make sure you're aware of your potential buyers as scammers are everywhere, meet in a well lit, CCTV monitored public place (in front of Police stations can daunt those dodgy buyers/scammers), especially for goods of a higher value.

I am 76 in a few months so hopefully healthy and still enjoying life.
I have read a lot of posts that seem to be doom and gloom. There are no guarantees in life but surely you can enjoy the time you have whether short or long instead of being so defeated.
We all have ups and downs, losses and gains. I just lost my 15 year old dog to cancer 2 weeks ago and she was the love of my life and I am still grieving. She was a fighter and it was only the final 2 days that I decided to call time. I have lost both parents and 2 of my sisters all to cancer but they never laid down or felt defeated. They kept going till the end. Enjoy the time you have whether it be long or short. Look forward not backwards. We all have regrets, hopes that were dashed, pain, sickness and loss. Try to have a laugh at least once a day.

Air fryers have surged in popularity in recent years, with their uses expanding well beyond chips from cooking meats to baking desserts. Do you think the air fryer could ever replace the traditional oven?
LindaB
The biggest waste of money I have ever spent! I was told by friends that I needed to get one so I bent to the peer pressure and paid good money for a good brand. I have used it once! I can do more in the oven using the same amount of fats and oils. It took longer using the air fryer and there's only the two of us to cook for. How families make meals in them is beyond me! I do cook from scratch rather than use processed products so maybe that's the difference. Does anyone want a Brabantia air fryer?..... going cheap!

Kids are way too young to understand the pressure and expectations that come with being judged on their looks. You think toddlers should be strutting around in sequins and fake smiles? Beauty pageants have been around for many years especially in the USA and mothers are really competitive to the detriment of their children. I have to agree with Christina, competition with kids, their birthday parties, etc. is all to do with the parent/s whereas children generally just want to have fun with their friends. We used to call it keeping up with the Jonses, now it is way out of control.
Putting little children in full makeup, hair, expensive outfits is just sickening.

Employees of both sexes bring different qualities to the work place...there are clearly places where female staff are better equipped to cope...and the same with males. What is your funniest Instant Karma story. Mine is a flash new sports car came flying past me on a rural road and cut me off. I said a few words but kept going. There was a cattle truck on the road ahead, and one of the cows had lifted their tail and got him in the middle of the windscreen.

That's OK. By the time you are in your 80s not only are you not noticed, you become invisible. This is all about control of the people. The shops & business' are charged by the banks when you use your card to pay for goods & services. These charges are being passed onto the consumer by business' because of the crippling costs.
I'll leave you with these thoughts..... The Commonwealth Bank in Australia made something like $10 billion profit for the first half of this year. What interest rate do you get on your savings in the bank ?
BTW negative interest rates will be introduced very soon, like they have in some European countries. That means the banks will be charging you to keep your money there, money that you can't withdraw in cash.
The banks operate illegally, the governments know they do, the banks put money aside to pay the fines & everyone goes on their merry way !

You love cats. You have decided when your last two are gone, never to get another one because of all the damage they do to your home. Someone dumps off two strays, and they are hungry, you feed them, and they begin to lay near your home, you know soon you will be able to catch them. What do you do with them??? You know your first mistake was feeding them, however, you could not stand to watch them starve because one reminded you of one you gave away, and it left...
Christine M 323842
They need to be desexed whether you decide to keep them or not, or else you will have many, many homeless kitties to worry about.

Being chronically late isn t just rude or inconvenient it s now considered a medical condition. A person recently went viral on TikTok for saying in a tearful video that she was reprimanded for asking for accommodation for "time blindness," a condition she said makes it harder to show up for work on time. People with time blindness struggle to keep track of and estimate time. So, is being late a real medical condition?
Andrew C 287196
*Everything* is a "medical condition" and has to be labelled these days, because nobody can take responsibility for their own decisions and actions. 🙄

I've read on a few news sites that the younger generation of teens, twenty something's , are blaming the older generation of Baby-boomers for the higher property prices that we have in some countries, like Australia, New Zealand Do you think they are right or wrong?
Kylene B 113680
Property has ALWAYS been beyond the reach of working Australians, They were lucky to have a car per household, not one per person, Now we have credit cards, tech and everyone wants everything now,

I have a colleague who 'aks' (instead of asks) for an 'expresso' when we go get coffee. I cringe. I let it go twice, then when I realized she wasn't doing it to be silly, I did mention to her so she wasn't embarrassed in front of other people. She laughed it off and was fine, and thankful for the heads up. I also went to school with a girl who cant say 'woolworths' and uni with a girl who couldn't say 'rigor mortis'. Cheer me up with some more funny stories

for some reason, no one seems to be able to say pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis except me... A lot of people I know with the same last name say things like 'fravourite' instead of favourite. I have no idea why, it just seems to be what comes out. At least three kids I know from the same family also say 'free' instead of three and other things like that. There was even an old lady I heard of that said 'coinkedink' (pronounced co-in-key-dink) instead of coincidence.

From what I have seen and heard, they do a good job for animals that are neglected. One local resident informed me that they would not help a dog, possibly being prepared for food. They had informed her there is nothing they can do. Can this really happen in Australia?
Jellypony
Well I really hope not but a long time ago my parents would eat Chinese at a shop some where in Brisbane any way the shop was caught enticing the local street cats and they served them up as chicken. Yuk so my parents do believe they have eaten cat, not by choice of course. The shop was closed down obviously. A woman I knew was really upset by some people that lived near her as they were trying to catch ducks in the local park. Setting traps for them and yes using them as food. I am pleased we don't have wet markets here in Australia but I am sure if you knew where to look there could be a black market and you could get what ever you wanted at a cost. We use and abuse animals for a lot of things and food is only a part of the whole situation unfortunately. I do eat meat don't get me wrong but I do feel for the animals especially if we treat them so badly. Big problem we have now is eggs, a dozen is now going to cost us $15 because we aren't allowing caged hens. All hens have to be free ranged or barn laying. I was a little put off as I will refuse to pay that much for eggs. An alternative to using an egg/eggs in a cake is 1. Apple Sauce 2. Banana and 3. 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of vinegar (per egg) 4. plain or vanilla yoghurt. Maybe when they realise some people will refuse paying that price the price will drop but only time will tell. We do have alternative solutions for this problem and we are not reliant to them for our needs. We will adapt and find other ways. I like eggs but I will slowly learn to live without them.

Having siblings or no siblings has a major impact on how we turn out. There are pro's and con's for both scenarios, for example scarce resources but large social network in big families or loneliness for single child families but better resources. How do you think your family situation has shaped you?
allinyourNCbc
on my own until 17, no siblings, joined the army, 8 year infantry,, raised 2 boys, life is good most of the time,,, when you have to learn life on your own, the hard way, you appreciate life more, you try to help when help is needed, as i got help when i needed it, so i pass it on, i have no use for narcissistic people, people that start unfounded conspiracy theories, i reckon that includes those that like their own posts as nobody else will, lol,, folks that constantly complain,, they should just be happy to have a roof over their head, a lot of folks in this world do not,, people dividing the USA with their far right conspiracy crap, but i reckon they have that right to be buttholes, as someone's son/brother/father/mother, gave their all so y'all can

I just found out...that some major department stores in Australia are using Facial Recognition Technology. Apparently not many people are aware of this happening. Privacy groups are concerned that the general public are not being informed. What is your view on this?

Not a bother to me. Surely it could only be a worry to people who are not doing the right thing or who want to be hiding from the authorities or whatever.

I just saw a new article about the US Surgeon General saying loneliness was a major problem in society and leads to higher health risks like heart disease and strokes, as well as mental health issues. A lot of people's social interactions these days are online, and therefore usually of lower quality of friendship as in person socialising. So what are good ways for people, both teens and adults, to meet and make friends and social groups in person? Humans are, by nature,...
APB
I think to a certain degree..Americans are more into worrying about and agonising over their relationships...mental health...and my pet hate mindfullness (whatever that means)..and some like talking about themselves a lot, because they maybe find themselves interesting....I have never ever been lonely and very very rarely been anything less than enthusiastic about life...I have a very limited group of friends that I trust..maybe 8...and two who would take a bullet for me or give me anything I asked for if it would help without question...two great sons...a wider social group that I see sometimes but do not worry about too much...and a network here on Rewardia that I value ..I'm happy with that...and don't need anything else...and I'd probably be fine with far less...I do not need or want any medication...my head is in a good place...and always has been...
I'm just happy and grateful to be here....I don't understand why so many people ... living in a fortunate country with no serious problems..can have so many problems...and make themselves sick...
you don't have to look very far to see people living in horrific conditions...they would love to have your lifestyle..or even clean water...
that Surgeon General...is he concerned with the number of dead people...hundreds of children.... due to gun ownership in his country?..or maybe that is an area that he is not allowed to talk about.....
I would not want his job....
leaving a loaded gun lying around is bad for a lot of people's health...

It is your assistant, it buzzes vibrates and bleeps telling you how much you need it. It now may have your credit card, loyalty cards and any number of other things like your driver's licence ... vaccination records ... references from past landlords and employers ... every phone number that you may need ever ... and it wants more and more because that way it is irreplaceable ... BUT ... what happens when you lose your best buddy? For anyone reliant, this can be a major life...

In no way. I don't use Smart phones. Though I did loose my little 15 dollar mobile I bought at big W, that is annoying to loose all the contacts, though I still keep a lot of Em written on a peice of paper not all of them but, and I know it a hassell putting it all on again. Found it again.

I read a book where a couple gets married, and the husband made it clear they wouldn't live together. He said they'd avoid getting on each other's nerves, invading the other's space, and never have to worry about familiarity breeding contempt. After the usual misunderstandings and stuff that happens in novels, at the end they had their "happily ever after", but still lived in separate houses! In real life, would this be a good idea?
Cher
Yes. I knew a lady that I worked with. She and her husband bickered every day in a house they shared. They ended up divorcing after 35 years of marriage. They both live down the hall from each other in an apartment block and now are getting along amazingly well. She calls her ex-husband her new best friend. Life can change for the better!

The 'in' thing at school was a mince pie & packet of chips/crisps trend: Peel back pie top & scoop out the mince with a chip (eating mince like dip) Then put the chips in pie, top back on - chip pie - done & yum Seems weird now - did you have any 'weird' food combos?

Has anyone found any groceries that have NOT increased in price? I have found two products - those frozen blocks of spinach and the 100 packs of home brand serviettes. Both still cost about $1 each.

Trouble is Woolworths and Coles have the monopoly and keep giving excuses for prices increasing whilst their profits are soaring . We need more players, when you look at how many grocery chains the UK has in a much smaller country it is ridiculous

Stop anyone that is not an Australian Citizen from buying property in our country. The cost of property has sky rocketed over the last few years making it hard for people to buy their own home. Lots of other countries won't let non citizens purchase homes and it is about time the Government stepped in.

America's trade war with China seriously damaged major American companies whose products were made in China ....In Australia, when we speak up for people's rights and freedoms in China or question the actions of the Chinese mainland government...we are met with offensive language and tarrifs on some exported goods...a sensible way for everyone to show their dissatisfaction with China's current behavior would be for all of us to just not buy anything that is made...

Are we, though? I've read the labels and Terms and Conditions on smartphones, electronics, among other things and I wonder sometimes. It sure looks like we are being experimented with or the manufacturers just don't care about us (No surprise there). Radiation warnings, Cancer warnings and Reproductive Harm warnings are popping up. I was going to buy a pair of shoes! Shoes! And, they had a warning label of possible Reproductive Harm. Seriously? That's so sick.
APB
Many years ago now...a prominent scientist in the area of radiation was employed by the mobile phone industry to finally and totally debunk the harmful effects of using a mobile phone...his final report was never used and he concluded that use of a mobile may result in some damage to the users brain...and in fact damage the user's DNA....that report is still available on line...and this was just for earlier mobiles ...not the smart phones that we cannot live without

Do you think this should be bought back? I think that if a school-leaver has not found a job within 6 - 12 months, then joining the defence forces would not be a bad thing. It would get these people off the dole, could train them in specific areas and as well as this, you can never have enough trained forces people to protect our country. I know many people would say that this takes people's freedom away, but in the long run I can see the benefits.
Warrior
Isn't it interesting that some narrow minded people think that solving the unemployed youth issue is as easy as throwing these kids into the armed forces.
Endemic societal issues cannot simply be solved by handing a kid a gun. The root cause needs to be addressed. That cause starts in the home the school the social group and the online barrage of garbage children face every day from the likes of online forums such as face book.
Do not use the armed forces who do a fantastic job of protecting our democratic freedoms as the channel to fix issues that need to be addressed by all.
The ADF does a great job encouraging people from all walks of life to serve and protect.
And to Bob F...below you say use diplomacy? Tell that to Putin and his mates in Iran North Korea and China.
We enjoys freedoms that so many others do not.
Our military forces need to be the best there is. They are there to protect and serve. God bless these people.

For me, it's getting into my cosy bed at night and hitting the laptop - YouTube and more so of late Rewardia!! E-book reading has taken a bit of a downturn
Pearlz
The best part of my day is after I have fed my cats, made the bed, had breakfast, done the dishes, swept the floor, dusted, done a couple of loads of washing and hung it out, ironed, either walked or used the treadmill, had lunch and cleaned up, pulled a few weeds, gone shopping if I need anything, fed the cats, prepared dinner, checked my emails, done the dishes, checked the bills, had supper then lights out. Then I may be able to go to bed without any cats, in which case I am able to sleep in any position I want. Tomorrow is another day.

Has modern society destroyed relationships between men and women irreparably? The growth of radical men's groups encouraging men to give women a wide berth are gaining popularity in this time of political correctness while in Japan, men and women are choosing the single life in growing numbers. What do you think is the solution?
Pearlz
It's all about selfishness. It's all about me, me, me and not us. I have watched as people care far more about themselves now and their feelings. How else do you explain so many relationship breakdowns? People have no respect for one another, or integrity, honesty, manners or loyalty. I met my husband when I was 16 and at 18 needed my parents permission to marry him. When we tell people we have been married for almost 55 years instead of congratulating us people make jokes such as you don't get that long for murder. Shouldn't a marriage that has lasted that long be valued or even admired instead of denigration?

Work? Stress? Fun? Why do you think are women over 40 drinking more? And what could be the health implications?

According to who? It's ok for 20-30 year olds getting blotto every weekend and contribute to populating the world unintentionally, but once a 40+ gets on it it's an issue? I'm stoked when I see a 40+ get absolutely annihilated at Melbourne Cup in their heels, fascinators and a lovely set of designer gear with a camera on them:) I'm 48 and the only person I know who goes overboard is my sister. So where's the rest of them?

I think i must be daft.. Nothing annoys me more than some stranger on the phone looking for business but using my christian name instead of my title.. Mrs shows much more respect and it would be easier to get me to listen.. Growing up i was always taught to show respect for my elders, even as a grown woman i called aunts and uncles just by that so is it just me?
Michelle S 553303
I STILL feel, while there are people in our community who have fought for our respective countries and who would have given their lives for it, that the RESPECT dang well better be there!. I ALWAYS refer to someone over the age of 40, I'm 57, with "Sir or Mam". I use the age of 40 as a baseline as all of my children are under this age. I truly believe that it is their, our elders, DUE to be treated with a title showing that we respect their age as an identifier of a history and life experience that, we hope, we shall not endure! However, if they state, as the gentleman I spoke with yesterday did in giving his name and permission for me to use it, THEN and ONLY then, will we be on a more familiar first name basis. Years ago when I was doing a stint in the Geriatrics Department of a hospitaI I had called an older lady "Dear" and was quickly admonished for it. I was told that I was NEVER to call someone that due to it being disrespectful and to refer to them as Mr or Mrs Smith or whatever their name on the wall behind them indicated and if there wasn't a visible name then Sir or Mam would do. I UNDERSTAND that times change but some things need preserving, at least for a few more decades! I don't hold out hope though for the general public what with "pregnant mother" being relegated to the annals of history and "birthing parent" being used instead. Or, even worse as I see it, "breast feeding mother" now known as "chest feeding parent". The word "mother" is forbidden in places and I don't just mean in the movie "A Brave New World"! The use of language identifies us as individuals and changing this, as is intentionally occurring now through the Big Tech monopolies, strip's us of that identifier. I want to be known as a mother and grandmother. I BREASTFED my SONS and my DAUGHTERS. Taking this away without my consent is violating my unique identity. It's fine to agree and disagree and such disagreements ARE important, but DON'T cut me out of the dialogue or worse cut the dialogue at all! Thanks for reading this!

Do you believe in Karma? Do you think your bad and good deeds come back to you?
lippy loo
No. Look at the evil in the world perpetrated by horrible humans and nothing happens to them but the good people seem to cop it left right and centre. The old saying only the good die young seems to be too true. I have never wished bad on anyone and I do not believe in Karma but sometimes you have to wonder why nothing seems to touch them in so many cases.

What are some comfort foods from your childhood that bring you back to a really good place emotionally? I remember coming home from school, walking down the street with the whipping cold Arctic wind cutting through my skin, walking into the warm Aunt Mavi's home and being greeted with the smell of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. Boy that woman knew how to cook and make a house a home!

Oh, so many memories. I did not realise how poor we were when very small. Mum used to give us a weet bix spread with the drippings and vegemite and we loved it. When older, favourite dessert was rice pudding and roast lamb and all the trimmings every Sunday. Snacks which I still make today are fritters, especially the potato ones now called german potato cakes or something, and potato and onion cooked up with herbs and spices. Loved spaghetti bolognaise - actually, the only thing I turned my nose up at was liver, tripe and sweetmeats in general. All of us kids ate whatever was put on the table in front of us and my kids were the same. Aww, we kids back then were so easy for our Mum's to look after - most of the time! Lol.

Being prepared for an emergency starts with a solid household plan and a "grab bag" of essential supplies. You should identify local risks and ensure you have at least three days of food, water, and necessary medications ready to go. It is also vital to secure your home by learning how to turn off utilities safely and staying updated through official emergency channels.

No, I live 6km from the CBD and nowhere near water, bush or any other potential "natural disaster". I think I would be more worried about a "Man made" disaster.

My husband and I dined at a Steak House, called The Keg, in Vancouver, BC last night. In the middle of dinner a lady walked by me with her large dog. It wasn't a therapy dog. Both of us were taken back as this was a fine dining restaurant. Do you think Dogs should be allowed in high-end restaurants?
MatzohBall
I actually live in BC Canada. I find it really hard to believe The Keg would allow this. The restaurant has to have a food safe certificate to operate. A dog would be going against the food safety guidelines. Only service dogs are allowed in restaurants, so curious how this happened. I think this was a one time situation? But yeah, I wouldn't want to dine with a dog in a restaurant that I'm eating at.

Some people enjoy living in a big city, while others prefer a small town. In my opinion, living in a big city is better because there are more job opportunities, schools, hospitals, and places to visit. People can enjoy shopping centers, restaurants, parks, and many kinds of entertainment. Public transportation is also usually better in a city. However, big cities can be crowded, noisy, and expensive. Small towns are quieter and safer, and people may know each other better....

Not only do I enjoy the choosing of vegetables, growing the seeds and canning or freezing the finished product. But also the proud of producing enough vegetables to feed my family for 1 year in less than 5 months and saving money. I was wondering if anyone is gardening because of high cost of foods in supermarkets...

Ok, 2 working parents would get approx. 2 to 3 weeks annual per year of leave, so between them, they could have available 6 weeks. This needs to cover the following leave: Sick leave because child is ill. School holidays - currently if you count all the pupil free days, public holidays etc would be 10-12 weeks give or take a day. Vacation care costing is ridiculously high and spots few and far between. Not to mention with the cost of living going up,...

I was flying from AL to Sydney when I was in an incident. The guy next to me started jiggling. At first I though he was listening to music, then realised he was sick. I called the stewardess and told her. The next thing was the classic announcement "is there a doctor on the plane". They found one, and he and the stewardess started trying to help the guy. The stewardess turned to me and said "the doctor needs more space, and the only spare seat is in first class, would you mind moving?" So in the spirit of helping out I made the sacrifice and moved to first class for the rest of the trip.

I understand the perspective that face recognition technologies could potentially help reduce crime rates through improved surveillance and identification of suspects. The use of these technologies is an ongoing topic of discussion, with proponents highlighting potential public safety benefits. Are you comfortable with face recognition technologies to lower crime?
Woofers
Simply, YES! We need to do whatever is necessary. Criminals are rampant, out of control, and repeatedly given a slap on the wrist only.
WAKE UP AUSTRALIANS, we need to jail these people and stop living in fear in our own homes, communities.

A friend recently took her 2 cats to the Vets for a routine health check as they were 10 years old, she felt it time to have them assessed. A 20-minute consultation for both cats together, a lab test & submission & 1 lot of medication. $645! This sounds outrageous. No wonder, people cannot afford to take their animals to the vet. Has anyone else found this with pricing?

A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest.
After a moment or two, the vet shook his head and sadly said, "I'm sorry, your duck, Cuddles, has passed away."
The distressed woman wailed, "Are you sure?"
"Yes, I am sure. Your duck is dead," replied the vet..
"How can you be so sure?" she protested. "I mean you haven't done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something."
The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room. He returned a few minutes later with a black Labrador Retriever. As the duck's owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked up at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head.
The vet patted the dog on the head and took it out of the room. A few minutes later he returned with a cat. The cat jumped on the table and also delicately sniffed the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room. The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck."
The vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman..
The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill. "$150!" she cried, "$150 just to tell me my duck is dead!"
The vet shrugged, "I'm sorry. If you had just taken my word for it, the bill would have been $20, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it's now $150."

First we had toothbrushes... cheap and effective... then we got expensive little power tools that did the same thing... but NOW we have AI! So you can buy a smart toothbrush! And these can cost up to $300... what does it do? Well, it still cleans your teeth... it has multiple speeds/vibrations, etc... and also warns you when you re not cleaning your teeth properly... and sends a report on your performance to an app on your phone... (this is all true)... Next up,...

Next and finally, the real smart invention would be tooth that grows back, fills itself, repairs itself…wouldn’t it?

What is your best advice to give your children? For me, my parents NEVER taught me about retirement and how to plan for it. Because of that, I never planned and am now suffering financially What is the best advice to give Is it: - get good grades - teach them about financing - teach them about planning for their retirement

Treat others as you would like to be treated, don't be prideful, live within your means and love the family you have being grateful for them. As for me I would add for them to love the Saviour Jesus Christ and put Him first in everything!

Sometimes I feel lost about my career, and it scares me. Everyone around seems so sure about their path, while I m still figuring things out. But maybe growth isn t about having all the answers, it s about learning, trying, and trusting the process.

Aside from the News where at least one major medical breakthrough happens every week before covid America was going to ban vapes...because of the lubricants used were a major health hazard and at least 13 kids dying from vape use... The UK was going to pass new laws to make burning scented candles in homes illegal because of the chances of getting lung cancer...and we have solved the methane problem with cows...just feed them seaweed...we had new wave generators...

Waiting on a miracle? I see them around me every day! I will just mention one because I have the first beautiful flower on a new Christmas Cactus plant. I notice the intricate and perfect details in flowers. No matter where they're from in the world flowers are perfectly made with identically sized petals and intricately dotted or .... I can't even describe them. They're just SO miraculously detailed. And scented beautifully as a bonus:)

Many companies are offering now vast record collections, tree builders, and DNA matching. What do you think of such services? Would you give it a go?
Jania S
When you trust someone/thing for information you think is important you need to be able to check, I personally think they are rorters...and make a lot of money without ever proving to anyone what they say is factual. I would never use the services. I know what I need to know about my family and ancestors dont need to know anything else. and frankly hate the way the american companies promoted this decades ago.

Today, I found a very scary-looking arrow on our property. Our property is posted. I notified the DNR, but they did not return my call. Someone had obviously used this arrow to try to harm a deer and missed, and it came onto our property. This is the first time in my lifetime (age 70) that I have ever seen an arrow used to shoot deer. It really upset me seeing it. It had what looked like razors on both sides. I wondered if anyone else has ever found an arrow on their...

That is called a broad head arrow or "Bear" head. Very expensive and very lethal. Judging from the size it comes from a crossbow which is totally illegal where I come from. I have archery equipment. I don't hunt but I do go out bush to practice for the sport of it. If you miss a target with the types of powerful bows that are on the market today, the arrow could end up anywhere.

Looking back at the first half of your life, do you feel you've achieved everything you could've, or do you feel you let some things go unfinished that you want to tie up the loose ends of before it's too late?
Henrietta
Some things I would like to have changed but on the whole, I am content with my life. My husband & I have been married 65 years, have 2 daughters, one is happily married for 35 years, produced 3 wonderful sons & we have 1 great grandson & 2 great granddaughters, so to achieve & to live & see 4 steps of the family, is terrific these days & I am proud of each & every one

Now that you have children (of any age) what do you do differently than your parents did with you growing up? What do you do that s the same?
Liane H
We don't eat at a dinner table . Unless it's out at family 's for an event .
My son was one of the worst fussiest non eaters as a child so to avoid all the stresses and the direct eye contact of sitting across from eachother ... we ended up with the t.v on for distraction and he had his little stool pulled up to the edge of the coffee table while I relaxed on the couch. Scandalous yes I know ,but it was the only way mealtimes wouldn't end up with a plate of food thrown at the wall in frustration. :/

We all have that one dream destination whether it s a peaceful beach, a famous city, or a hidden gem. If you had a free ticket today, where would you travel and why? Let your imagination fly and share your dream spot with us!

I read of a couple who spent the whole year cruising from one boat to another, according to where the boat was cruising too. Now that sounds lovely, meals all cooked & prepare for you. I would do a cruise that would take in Samoa (not the AMERICAN side) as it is where my husband & I renewed our Wedding Vows & we had a marvelous time. We started off at Fiji for a week then we went to Samoa. I even had a Puletasi (traditional wedding dress) made for me who was the lady working in the souvenir shop. She also happened to be a seamstress in her "spare" time. It was lovely & my husband wore the traditional dress code for a man. We still have them, can't say that they still fit but we still have the photo's & memories of that wonderful holiday. We did that trip back in about 1995 & next month we celebrate our 65th year of being married.

Are there many fathers that have a new girlfriend after his wife died?
writerrochelle
Sorry, I can't help you. I had a stepchild. I met him when he was 10 years old. He loved me, and he was a wonderful child. When he was 19, his dad moved me to WA state and abandoned me here. Within a year, Stephen had committed suicide...I blame his dad...I don't know what to tell you... ;-{ Sorry. I didn't mean to make it about me. It just made me remember... ;-[

With road user charges (a tax or fee that drivers pay for using public roads) possibly being implemented by 2027 to all car owners, would you consider switching to a smaller, more economical & efficient vehicle?
Rusty .. (vic)
we pay a tax through the petrol pump, in the way of a surcharge. Not to mention the charge for using the toll ways - that to me is highway robbery...owned by private companies, paid for by the users over many many years, and still they want more. The toll should be ceased, as I bet the revenue raised does not go back into maintenance of roads.
