I came from the age where spankings were a normal form of discipline. It was never severe, and we barely felt it. I feel that is made us respect our parents in a way that children don't do anymore. Perhaps I'm wrong, but did a gentle spanking do more than hurt our feelings because we knew we did something wrong? In school, I believe some type of discipline should be implemented other than yelling! I don't care for the idea of yelling at children, especially in front of...

Tomatoes mmm tasty...BUT NO....not a vegetable...it's a fruit...when ripe it is full of fructose a bad sugar...rots your teeth and makes you fat...it gets better...part of the deadly nightshade family too...can cause inflammation and gout...but it's a major part of the Mediterranean diet...that is so good for you...who do you believe?....

Everything in moderation. Too much Salt (NaCL) = Hardened Arteries & heart problems. Too much Fat = Heart problems, obesity. Too much Sugar = Obesity, Type 2 Diabetes. Read the Labels if you value your health. Watch out for all those Chemicals with weird names you can't pronounce or just Numbers both of which are meaningless. Want to cut down on the Sugar.Fructose intake? Then make sure there are NO Artificial Sweeteners such as Aspartame etc., some of which are highly Carcinogenic. Stay away from those so-called Natural Sweeteners with No Calories such as Stevia. they may not make you Fat, Ugly and Obese BUT they do nothing to reduce your Addiction to Sweet things, they just keep the Addiction going. Apply this to those Soft Drinks too. The makers proudly claim "NO Sugar", "ZERO Sugar" but they don't want you to stop drinking them so they sweeten them artificially to maintain Your Addiction to Sweet things.

I agree that you are living a clean healthy life but you are wrong when you say the majority picks on the minority as it's quite the reverse. The people demonstrating for Palestine are a minority, the people pushing man-made climate change are a minority, the people who claim a man can be a woman are certainly a minority and the LGB and whatever other letters they have are a minority. They all scream and shout while the silent majority keeps their heads down and gets on with it.

I am calling it a deep cleaning of my house. I am getting rid of anything I have acquired over the 20 years living here, donating to worthy causes, and making my house easier to clean at the same time. Likewise, I wondered, what do others think of this idea?

I'm attempting to do this too. We have such a small house and often trip over things left on the floor. We dont have any broom cupboards or linen cupboards or a garage so things get stored inside.

Some people are just more sensitive, introspective and thoughtful, and tend to have more angst and ennui about life in general than others. Plus, everything else can be perfect, and you can just get unlucky and have something terrible happen that you could never have imagined or prevented. What are your thoughts? Why is life harder for some people?

In view of the current economic situation that most people are experiencing higher living costs. What s your best saving hacks?
catherine 1489090
I learned to always give a little bit more on my bills until Im 1payment ahead, Goal is 2 have one month 'credit' on my bills, that is same 4 me as saving bcoz if something happens I know Im in good standing one month in advance. Many times in low seasons, I also pay a smaller bill in QTRly amount, like the water bill, than adding that 2 the bigger bill. In Spring and Autumn, I pay extra 2 compensate 4 the Summer/Winter bills, It really helps also 2 do surveys online while eating lunch of a snack. Lastly, everyday, I look at my bank balance, I save the change in an account instead of a jar. Both work but its auto. If I spend 31.99, than my saving change would be .99cents. That realy adds up and is FUN 4 me 2 have different ways.

I am enjoying participating in surveys and play games. Also, it is not just for nothing; Rewardia gives some points, which is a grand gesture. Before I did some surveys there and there, no platform was good enough and not so much fun. Maybe, I chose the wrong ones. However, I found Rewardia and decided to stay here. I am not doing so much, no time, but I keep going. Yes, sometimes I screened out, sometimes errors happen, but I keep going because it is fun and I do not...

i love rewardia, i do the surveys and the games, but i get a little upset because they send surveys to me in nz, at 2am when i am in bed, so when i go on to do it, i have been screened out or it has been filled. i do the sudoka, patience and scramble, though i am getting a little pissed off with that lately.can anyone tell me how you pronounce psi as a word, yet a word like reap is unknown. but i still enjoy doing everything as it keeps the old brain in use, and as i live alone it stops me from being lonely.

When my daughter turned 1 year old, July 20, 1969, men landed on the moon. I have been against the space program from the beginning, and I'd love to know how others feel. My thinking is, if the Billions of dollars spent on the space program over the past 55 years would have been spent on this earth, not one person would be without anything! We would all have everything we need including a place to live, plenty to eat, clothes on our backs and medical care. Also,...

There are many rewards programs and offers out at the moment, some have been around for a while and some are newer on the scene. Some come with credit cards or airlines, while others are with groceries. A clear favourite would be Rewardia for doing surveys etc, which one of the main reasons we are here. What are some of your favourites and why and if you are happy to share what do you like to get as a reward for yourself.

I do surveys to receive ecertificates which I use to supplement my grocery purchases because without them I would not eat much. I thank them very much. I also have flybuys and Woolworths cards which I scan every time I shop and these too add up but not as quickly as they used to. I am surprised many people do not use them as the cost is built in and they would probably save much more than I do.

Have I got a story for you! Forced to retire at 62 because my "husband" took my car, I started drawing Social Security, until he demanded it too. Left without my car and my money, I spent 3 1/2 years "imprisoned" by him, unable to even buy groceries. He took me out once a day to a Mexican restaurant where I ate everything I could and I went up to 208 pounds on my 5'4" body. In 2013 he moved me to WA state where we were to retire together, but he left me at the Navy Lodge on base like a bag of garbage and he returned to Texas. They let me stay from May 21 to July 3 when I was evicted owing over $3000! Well, I went back to work at age 66 and retired, again, at age 72, when COVID-19 hit. I saved up over $10,000 in those 6 years, now living on Social Security, Section 8 housing, food stamps (EBT card), grants for electricity and a $30 discount for the internet! I now weigh 135 pounds, am 5'2" (yes, we do shrink!), and am healthier and happier than I've been in my life! Yes, I still have my savings and am allowed to have it! AND, I went to the government and got my permanent military ID card WITHOUT my "husband"! God is Great! God is Good! ;-D

In 2019, it was quoted that Australia had the 8th best standard of living. The USA came in about 17. Norway was number 1. Do you think the statistics are really the truth? It's possible that they are inflating them to make them look good on paper? In Australia, at least...in might make the government of the day look good! Your views?
Michelle S 553303
I think it's important to reflect on what measurements were used to come to this determination. I'm old enough to remember Bob Hawk's promise that 'by the year 2000 no child would live in poverty in Australia " whereas the truth is that was NEVER going to happen! Today more children are living in poverty than EVER before and the rate will continue to rise. When you have families paying more than 20% of their total net income on housing, whether rented or mortaged, one of 2 things will occur. Either the family will reign in spending on non essential items or they will use credit to continue the standard of living without really being able to afford it. Many people, especially those with families, will often just use more credit because they don't want their children to miss out on things. Unfortunately, when interest rates go up, which is inevitable, people will NOT be able to continue gaining MORE credit to continue the cycle and either refinance their existing mortgage to gain equity in their home and have available funds for take out meals, holidays and education amongst other things or, if their home is foreclosed on they'll lose everything! Some will reign in spending but I know from personal experience that I'll say to myself "You'll have enough for that" only to discover something else comes along and I can't pay for this thing. I remember hearing at one time a butcher telling someone that in his expensive zip code there were FAR more people buying sausages than steak. But kids in family units where the annual income is only 20K are going to suffer WAY more. I have worked with people in poverty and although there are functional family units that put the children's needs above their own there are too many families where kids get the "scraps' quite literally. I FEEL for these disadvantaged children who often have poor educational and job prospects and a diet lean on nutrition and high on fast food or a diet of frozen fish fingers, which I enjoyed as a child, pies and chips. I once knew a family and those kids came into my home to stay for a while and when I served up fresh beans and other "exotic" vegetables these children didn't recognise them! Because a standard of living, to MY understanding, includes the total sum being measured which is then added together, divided and a mean average taken, there is going to be those living the life of Riley and others struggling to survive! I will ABSOLUTELY concede that measured against Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen and Madagascar we in Australia, even those of us on pensions, live like kings. Finally, I do not own a home anymore but rent. Women in my age group, the later 50's, are the fastest growing group to end up homeless. It makes me grateful that I have a place to live in instead of my car or even the street. I'm going to take care that I live within my means! Thanks for reading this.

I think it's real sad the government is trying to get rid of cash payments. What about children who get pocket money for little chores etc. I remember getting coins from my parents, to go grab a treat from the dairy. Controlling human beings with technology these days.
Sheree T
One would think the government would have a lot more important things to concentrate on. Everything seems to be out of control such as the cost of living in general it is absolutely ridiculous what you pay in groceries now not to mention everything else.
If I have cash in my purse and a store did not want to except it, I would never shop there again.

Homelessness is becoming a big thing no matter what country you re in? Is the governments really doing enough, or are there other countries we can look at that have in place things that are working towards a better future for those whom are homeless and vulnerable in our societies?
Lee b 979050
The rich get richer the poor get the picture... homelessness is the responsibility of all not just governments. You see many people on the streets yes but have you ever spoken to one? Battered bruised abused mental health issues untrusting all the results of what these people have been put through. It is hard for them to come back from the wilderness without proper care attention and medication.
Yes governments could do more but we as a society must do our bit as well. By that I mean working the soup kitchens providing essentials clothing food etc. Sparing a little fir thise in need does a lot

We are all eventually going to live in a cashless society. I really don't like this idea at look, because so many little things we do will be scrapped out, as cash will not be around. Jobs will be lost & more banks will close their doors. We need banks, banks keep our society to communicate. It is hard on many people to do everything via online & ATM machines. Neither service is 100% safe. Take the elderly people, they were not brought up on neither technology. They...
Martin D
The Maquarie bank in Australia is going cashless by 2024. This means that you won't be able to draw cash from your account through the ATM.
This is all about control of the people. The shops & business' are charged by the banks when you use your card to pay for goods & services. These charges are being passed onto the consumer by business' because of the crippling costs.
I'll leave you with these thoughts..... The Commonwealth Bank in Australia made something like $10 billion profit for the first half of this year. What interest rate do you get on your savings in the bank ?
BTW negative interest rates will be introduced very soon, like they have in some European countries. That means the banks will be charging you to keep your money there, money that you can't withdraw in cash.
The banks operate illegally, the governments know they do, the banks put money aside to pay the fines & everyone goes on their merry way !

I have been doing work as a genealogist for my family and friends for Over 10 years. I have used DNA test results for myself and also for my parents and my adult children, etc. It has proven invaluable for me in my research. I feel the positive outweighs the negative. How do others feel about this?
Michelle S 553303
I have no desire to give my DNA to ANYONE for ANYTHING! I don't believe that many people are aware that DNA is the new information source of the 21st century and that companies get paid big money for DNA samples from people who donate their genetic samples, thinking that their privacy will be maintained and that they still have a say in what their DNA is used for, but the industry is far more nefarious than that. I certainly have no intention of having MY DNA sitting in a database in China but China DOES have millions upon millions of genetic sequences from people around the 1st world who wouldn't themselves have consented to such violations of their genetic property.. The future is targeted vaccines and biological warfare, and bioengineering and DNA can tell a Scientist SO much!. Whether it's determining how to use racially diverse or gender specific targeting for "health care", the creation of organs through the creation of stem cells from the DNA and creating a '"cloned" organ, which IS possible within a laboratory setting, the use of DNA in Science would simply blow many people's minds. Whether it's buccal cells from the cheecks, mucosal samples from the nose, sperm, ova or blood, genetics can be manipulated in labs in Communist nations without moral or ethical safeguards we here in the West would anticipate and expect. I UNDERSTAND that people have a curiosity about their ancestral linage and good for them, but for me there are 2 reasons why I won't do a DNA test through 23 and Me, Ancestry. com or the other companies out there. The first is that I have ZERO interest in opening up a can of worms, which I believe would be the situation in my case and secondly my distrust in exactly where my DNA would end up! Science has given us many, many benefits over the years but we've gone too far with our curiosity and that can be a very bad thing! Thanks for reading.

We all have our differences when it comes to raising children, what are your views on public & private schooling? Do the pros outweigh the cons when you're looking at a much bigger price tag for education?
Lorraine M 1109115
All my children went to public schools, and both have good careers, PRIVATE schools are way way over priced and I believe the education isn't really focused on the real issues of today like (1) trade subjects, (2) Business Management and more, private schools are more into religion and that's not important in getting a real career, teachers are more dedicated to helping the kids in the public school system too. PUBLIC schooling gets my vote.

I was arrested and interviewed for 2 and a half hours. My ex is a policeman and has an avo out on me, I sent text messages thru a court appointed app about our children, no swearing, no threats just related to our children. Just because he's a policeman, I get arrested and now could get a charge because he's offended that he feels I'm questioning his parenting skills. The police in Australia are using the system to bully and harass their ex-partners.
Pat C 618241
AS A YOUNG ADULT I HEARD ABOUT POLICE TAKING BENEFITS FROM SMALL BUSINESS, things like lollies, cigarettes all to be handed over for free to police, also the overwhelming corruption in the treatment of prostitutes by the police, I thought this had been corrected as I grew up but the last few years seem to show that such is not the case, some people cannot be trusted even with small powers because it leads to belief they can do whatever they want just by the power of wearing the uniform.

I was glad to see the end of restrictions and mask wearing and to be able to catch the shows that had been put off the year before. My daughter moved from the country to the city, so I see her more now. Her husband had to give up his license, but is able to catch public transport while he tries to get a job. My...

Although farming generally isn't entirely environmentally friendly, is it as bad as the media portrays? Have you done your research? Have you weighed up the environmental impacts of farming vs cities? Most farmers, especially in New Zealand, care about the environment and animals and feel misunderstood by people who don't understand what we try to do for the environment or how much we care about the land. What have you heard about farming? What do you think about it?
Sarah G 76834
Farming is an ancient and noble profession. David was a shepherd and Jesus was a figurative shepherd.

Has modern society destroyed relationships between men and women irreparably? The growth of radical men's groups encouraging men to give women a wide berth are gaining popularity in this time of political correctness while in Japan, men and women are choosing the single life in growing numbers. What do you think is the solution?
Paula J 395266
It's all about selfishness. It's all about me, me, me and not us. I have watched as people care far more about themselves now and their feelings. How else do you explain so many relationship breakdowns? People have no respect for one another, or integrity, honesty, manners or loyalty. I met my husband when I was 16 and at 18 needed my parents permission to marry him. When we tell people we have been married for almost 55 years instead of congratulating us people make jokes such as you don't get that long for murder. Shouldn't a marriage that has lasted that long be valued or even admired instead of denigration?

I may be 70 years old, but I'm still very much alive and kicking (and still a working man), and I still have an interest in, and an opinion on, most subjects. I've been doing surveys on Rewardia (and a number of other sites) for a long while now, but I am getting extremely sick and tired of being asked at the start for gender and age, then immediately being screened out. OK I accept there are some topics that might be specifically for younger people, but it appears that at...

Derek T,
I agree with Trevor M, I am 67,still working in mining, still going strong, still in reasonable shape, lot of surveys will ask age, then screen you out, that is fine, some are looking for younger views, etc, but I still have an opinion on most thinks and consider myself reasonably intelligent,( I only said reasonably)

The Australian government should be funding kids more. At a state, national and international level. As a family, we have been thousands on my daughter Going to several competitions and national camps. Without any government assistance. Not a rich family. It is extremely hard to find sponsorship. I'd like to know is there other people In similar situations

romac i agree with everything you said. i live in nz and i find that today every body expects the govt to pay for every thing, i think children have all the sporting they want at school and if parents want more for them let them pay for it themselves
May 17, 22

At the risk of offending all and sundry, these are my thoughts. We need a license to own a gun. To drive a car. A license is needed to set up a food business. A license is needed to look after other peoples children both in home and out of home. Medics have to be registered and licensed. Teachers have to be registered and licensed. Licensed to sell alcohol. Fishing Licenses. Marriage Licenses To name a few ... Where is it okay for anyone regardless of income,...

No way but I think that children who are neglected and abused should be removed and rehomed with other family if possible or alternatively placed into foster care. All children deserve to be loved and nurtured and kept safe. Having a lot of money and a flash home, does not automatically make you a good parent. A good parent is one who loves their child and does the best with what they have.
I also strongly believe , that welfare payments should only be paid for up to 2 children. The world is over-populated as it is. No family should be getting bonuses for having more kids than they can afford to have. These days, it costs a fortune to bring up a child. Selfish parents who breed like rabbits, should not expect the tax payer to subsidise more than the first two.

Countries like Australia tend to have a lot of personal debt. Much of this occurs borrowing from financial institutions, like the big banks. Much of this is due to loans for our --housing, personal loans, business --loans, etc. More Aussies are also getting into trouble due to company's offering pay-later.. opportunities. Company's like ZIP-PAY... If you don't pay on-time then that also incurres a fee. Should we be worried about this level of personal debt?

Unless you are disciplined when it comes to money, stay away from these kinds of things. Do it like it we did in the old days; save up for it! No credit cards in those days!

In the 21century - is capitalism a good thing for homo sapient (with all its flaws - the rich get richer - the middle does not exist (anymore), and the poor get poorer)? What is your opinion?
otten m
There is nothing wrong with capitalism. It is dishonest and greedy people who are the problem. Thing is, dishonest and greedy people are an even bigger problem in a socialist society. Socialism will only lead to poverty for many more people is a socialist society than in a capitalist society.

Are you a minimum wage earner and how do you feel about the constant increase of minimum wage?
David L 76026
The reality is that the so called minimum wage has become an artificial construct. Very few people are on it. And with the increasing casualisation of the work force we need new measures to ensure workers are protected.

Years ago my daughter wanted something off Amazon and I was ok with giving her my credit card number and I supervised her while she purchased online. Several months later I noticed for the previous 2 months $35 was coming out of my account for Prime that we didn’t sign up for. Trying to get in touch with Amazon to question this, and try to cancel it was damn near impossible. I couldn’t get through to anyone and due to my lack of computer skills I just kept going around in circles and it was extremely stressful!
They ended up taking over $300 from my account, we never did use the Prime account and I never ever got reimbursed!
And finally when the payments stopped (my daughter’s Dad sorted it out for me)…
….blow me down, the buggers started it up again the following year!!!!
I’ve not ever used Amazon ever again!!!
They know they can get away with it to those who aren’t tech savvy online.
Still to this day I’m owed close to $400 for a service we never used or even signed up for.
3 years on and I’ve never used them again or even tapped the word Amazon into the search bar ever again!!

Whether it's "fair" is subjective, but it's a widely recognized reality that younger generations increasingly need family financial help (like deposits or guarantees) to enter the property market due to soaring house prices outpacing wage growth, creating a significant wealth gap and disadvantaging those without family wealth, a stark contrast to previous generations where homeownership was more accessible. Do you believe it is fair that younger generations often need family...
Simone S 316632
Younger generations have different life priorities than us older generations had. They want everything all at once, where we had nothing and slowly accumulated what we have. When younger generations are now staying in the family home sponging off their parents well into their thirties while still partying with their mates, of course they need the bank of mum & dad to help them. THEY are not our problem. They are their own problem.

I recently moved to a new neighbourhood and not sure if I should invite my neighbors over for tea or coffee to get to know them, or should I wait to see it they would invite me over?

I would not invite into the house at first; wave when you see them; speak and say hello if you are close enough. Chit chat when a random opportunity presents itself. That's what I do.

My 12-year-old daughter has recently gotten into makeup she watches tutorials and knows more about foundation shades than I ever did. The other day she asked, Mum, can I wear foundation to school? and it honestly stopped me. My mother loved cooking, but I wasn't always wrapt with the meals she cooked. I wasn't keen on camp pie fritters, and she would cook rice until it was like glue, but she made wonderful apple dumplings and stews, but she also cooked things I have never been able to master. I can't cook Yorkshire pudding because the thought of such hot fat scares me. Her fried bread was great, but something else I haven't been able to get to taste like mums. The last trip I took was from Texas to Washington state, where I've lived for the past 12 years. My "husband" was moving us here to retire, so I thought. We left TX May 3'rd and arrived in Oak Harbor, WA on May 20th, 2013. Worst 17 days of my life! He "said" his bank card wasn't working, so he begged, borrowed and maybe even stole to get us here. Slept in the vehicles that night, then got a room at the Navy Lodge on base here on Whidbey island. I don't even drive off island! Oh, sorry...He went to his sons graduation in TX and never returned! I was evicted from the Lodge on July 3'rd, 2013, went back to work until COVID-19, when I retired, again, at age 72. Sorry, guess I'm still venting... ;-(

Is there a dessert that you are very fond of and if it's on the menu, you always order it? My husband always orders either Tiramisu or Lava pudding, while I go for something sweeter. your expectation may or may not be reasonable. Did you research the hotel before booking? Did you speak to someone at the hotel to book? Or did you book online or through central reservations? If you spoke with someone and asked about what the check-in process looked like or somehow researched it in advance, you may be reasonable in expecting a more in-person experience. However, if you're booking experience did not involve any human interaction and you did not inquire about the check-in process, why would you expect a high-touch check-in experience.

The lives that narcissists ruin.. Now we have many country leaders who fall into that category. Their ability to wreck millions of lives is tragic. Do I need to name them? Let's say Russia, USA, North Korea, Israel.

Experts suggest that nightmares reflect patterns of human behaviour and are linked to our personal experiences. They provide insight into our minds and emotions. Although interpreting bad dreams isn't an exact science, understanding common themes can shed light on why we experience these frightening scenarios. What would you say? What are nightmares trying to tell you?

My nightmares have been telling me that I was EXTREMELY traumatized by my ex-husband and with medication for PTSD I can usually just have bad dreams now where he's just yelling and threatening and not actually doing. I still have a nightmare now and then but not nearly as often. After 29 years it's frustrating that he still affects my life this way.

Does anyone go thrift shopping, and what are your favourite stores to visit if you do? I have noticed a resurgence in popularity recently, and maybe it s the cost of living or just interest in older repurposed items, but curious on what others think.
Glenys H 310155
I manage an op shop/thrift store, and have noticed we are getting more customers. Mainly because so many of the chain stores have closed in our area (Rivers, Millers etc.) Our shop is manned by volunteers so are prices are lower than some of the shops that pay coordinators and managers. We also go with standardised pricing across the shop with a sperate rack for higher cost items. Our proceeds after expenses are given back to the community via donations to a variety of local groups such as the local food hub, carers groups, youth groups etc. It also a great opportunity to stop items going to land fill, we sell bags of rags to mechanics etc to dispose of clothing which is badly stained or torn.

I am in my early 40s with 2 children 11 and 12 years old, a couple of years ago I became ill and haven't been able to work since. I get a little bit of money every month for disability however it does not even come close to enough for our basic needs and believe me, we keep a very tight budget. My husband works, but it is still not enough each month for bills, gas, groceries and my extremely expensive medication. I want to take up a craft to sell for some extra money, but am not...
Smiley
Before you became ill, what did you do for work? Maybe you could use those skills to help you make some money? I haven't been able to hold down a PT or FT job since 2019 due to various health issues and I am a similar age to you (but have 4 kids). I would ask your family Dr or chemist where you get your medication for a Medicines Review, they will go over them with you, and if you let them know you're finding it hard to pay for your medication, they may be able to recommend a cheaper option. Your kids are still young, they will be fine with basics- buy no-name clothes (KMart, Big W, Best & Less if in Oz) and shop at op shops. You'll be fine without the brands and labels too- that will help to save a lot of money. Buy generic/store brand foods at the supermarkets and grow the more expensive fruit and veg if possible. When grocery shopping, don't pay more than $5/kg for fruit/veg and $15/kg or less for meats- these items are usually in season and affordable cuts that can be used in a variety of ways. As others have mentioned, join up to other survey sites, if you're in a metro area do focus groups- they often pay $40-$100/hr, but your often limited to doing 2-4 of these a year. Be honest as all market research places share a data base as well as a black list and they do know who is trying to do these on a regular basis to get more money or don't contribute honestly. Contact your utility providers and see if they can review your account/s, is there a different plan that would work better for your family. Cancel all TV subscriptions, only watch regular TV (ABC, 7, 9, 10 & SBS all have 3-6 channels offering different types of shows). Only buy new technology when what you currently have breaks or no longer works, you really do not need to update to a newer model just because it's new. Kids really do not need phones, the longer you can hold off getting them phones, the better (My kids get a basic phone for their 16th birthday, but i would have preferred to hold off until they turned 18). As for what else you can do to make extra money- sell those items around the house that you haven't used in a year or more. Sell on FB Marketplace, ebay, garage sales, gumtree, etc. Just make sure you're aware of your potential buyers as scammers are everywhere, meet in a well lit, CCTV monitored public place (in front of Police stations can daunt those dodgy buyers/scammers), especially for goods of a higher value.

I'm looking to start a family in the next few years, so I'll be balancing work and home life. What about you? Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Linda C
I am 76 in a few months so hopefully healthy and still enjoying life.
I have read a lot of posts that seem to be doom and gloom. There are no guarantees in life but surely you can enjoy the time you have whether short or long instead of being so defeated.
We all have ups and downs, losses and gains. I just lost my 15 year old dog to cancer 2 weeks ago and she was the love of my life and I am still grieving. She was a fighter and it was only the final 2 days that I decided to call time. I have lost both parents and 2 of my sisters all to cancer but they never laid down or felt defeated. They kept going till the end. Enjoy the time you have whether it be long or short. Look forward not backwards. We all have regrets, hopes that were dashed, pain, sickness and loss. Try to have a laugh at least once a day.

Air fryers have surged in popularity in recent years, with their uses expanding well beyond chips from cooking meats to baking desserts. Do you think the air fryer could ever replace the traditional oven?
Linda B 907610
The biggest waste of money I have ever spent! I was told by friends that I needed to get one so I bent to the peer pressure and paid good money for a good brand. I have used it once! I can do more in the oven using the same amount of fats and oils. It took longer using the air fryer and there's only the two of us to cook for. How families make meals in them is beyond me! I do cook from scratch rather than use processed products so maybe that's the difference. Does anyone want a Brabantia air fryer?..... going cheap!

Breaking news! They have found a plant hundreds and hundreds of light years away that MIGHT support life...it is so far away that we can only see it as it was millions of years ago. I don't know and I don't care 'if' there is a possibility life exist on other planets in a vast universe. I'm Blessed because my bank doesn't charge for ATM withdrawals, or their checking or savings accounts ($50 saving minimum), so I never have any fees to pay! My son went down to his Australian bank today to withdraw $7,000 in cash....they asked him what he needed the money for (whose money is it?) and then told him that they didn't hold a lot of currency...and that if he needed to withdraw more than $4,000 he would need to make an appointment...he got the money out of them in the end...after a struggle.....is this the new normal for Banks?
Elizabeth T 396096
They all do that now. What was considered a little bit of money is now considered lots. They are just abiding by cash laws which compels them to report suspicious transactions.
By law any transaction that is considered suspicious can be reported even if it is below $10000.
It is no longer "your money, Ralph".

Our bedroom, was becoming quite cluttered on my husband's side of the bed on his dresser and beside the dresser. Today, I coaxed him back there and told him I had cleaned out a total large shelf in his walk in closet to put his things. He is back there cleaning out what he wants to keep and what to throw away. Hopefully, he will not junk it back up, but we shall see. Are all husbands like this?
Bugalugs
Hwew we g o again! men are being blamed for everything. They Must do exactly as they are told to by some female. It is his dresser, his side of the bed, you have invaded his space - something you women constantly tell us we are doin to you - and have interfered in his Walk-in Closet by going in and clearing out his things and then ordering him to put his things there.
Hopefully he will find he has nothing to throw away.
Just how full are is Youir Walk-in Closet and other containers around the house? When are You going to clear out Your junk?
The revolution is coming.

Kids are way too young to understand the pressure and expectations that come with being judged on their looks. You think toddlers should be strutting around in sequins and fake smiles? You re teaching them that their worth is tied to appearance self-esteem issues. Not ignoring the toxic environment of the absurdity, can a toddler understand the concept of beauty and competition? They can t even tie their shoes yet! You re setting them up for failure by putting them in a situation...
Linda C
Beauty pageants have been around for many years especially in the USA and mothers are really competitive to the detriment of their children. I have to agree with Christina, competition with kids, their birthday parties, etc. is all to do with the parent/s whereas children generally just want to have fun with their friends. We used to call it keeping up with the Jonses, now it is way out of control.
Putting little children in full makeup, hair, expensive outfits is just sickening.

I watched the News one evening and many are surrendering their pets because they claim they cannot afford to feed them. Yet these same people are purchasing their lunches every day, going out for drinks with friends or workmates, travelling, they buy take-a-way etc. These are false words to me. What do you say True or false?
Ellen P 667007
Those kind of people shouldn't have pets to begin with. Selfish people. If you don't want to commit to a pet in all aspects, don't get one!

Is there an age that seniors should stop having dogs as pets? Cats work to find with seniors because they are easy to keep. But, dogs require more physical requirements - many seniors have problems with walking dogs. I am 68and have just gotten a puppy. Some people have questioned me about it, asking me if I were to become unable to walk, how would I manage my dog ... my solution would be - I would use a walker if needed. What do you think?
Sandra C 12043
Don't take any notice of them. I'm almost 81 & hubby 83. & we love our dog. Wouldn't be without her. Work with a rescue group & still help daughter with the ones she gets. At the moment she has 9 puppies she's looking after. Our dog has 2 long walks every day. It's already planned that if we aren't here then she will take our dog to live with her own two dogs. Just do it, it will give you a new lease on life.

Have you ever been told to act or dress your age? How would you respond if someone made a comment about the way you act or even the way you dress? I recently bought a t-shirt that I thought really sums up my feeling: Don't know how to act my age, I have never been this old before ...
Timtam
I wear whatever I am comfortable wearing and care nothing for anybody else's opinion of what I wear or don't wear. I have no idea what 'acting your age' is supposed to look like & quite frankly wouldn't give a rats. I'd probably tell them to go take a long walk off a short plank, but in much more colourful language.

Employees of both sexes bring different qualities to the work place...there are clearly places where female staff are better equipped to cope...and the same with males. I think an important difference between a large male workforce and a large female workforce is that all the males work together without any major friction, while largely female workforces (like nursing) have lots of problems hopefully when we have a better mix these problems will be better...what do you...
writerrochelle
Amen to that! I've never worked a job where the women didn't have some kind of problems. Jealousy, envy, prejudice, gossip, who knows. I just know I worked better with men than with women. ;-D

The real, number one killer of any marriage or relationship is often a lack of communication or communication breakdown between husband and wife or partners. What's your experience? What is the number one killer of marriages?
Janice S 76330
I would say, selfishness. Only being concerned about what they want and what makes them happy. Couldn't care less about what the other partner wants or needs, doesn't care about the children. Some how I found myself married to such a person, the marriage officially lasted 12 years.

Making sacrifices in a relationship can have many benefits. Firstly, it can strengthen the bond between you and your partner. It shows that you care about their happiness and well-being and are willing to do what it takes to make them happy. Secondly, making sacrifices can lead to a more fulfilling relationship. What do you reckon? Why does showing love require making sacrifices?
Dang Ling-bits.
It does not involve making sacrifices, it only requires consideration for the other person within the relationship.

A simple pleasure is anything that brings you a sense of joy, no matter how ordinary. It can be absolutely anything the beauty of taking the long walk home to enjoy the sights, or brewing your favourite coffee. What's wonderful about life's simple pleasures is that they are everywhere around us. What would be yours?
Gigi
Watching a child be amazed at something they are experiencing or seeing for the first time. That look of wonder and giddiness is so fulfilling

What is your funniest Instant Karma story. Mine is a flash new sports car came flying past me on a rural road and cut me off. I said a few words but kept going. A couple of kilometers down the road, there he was on the side of the road trying to clean cow poo off his windscreen. There was a cattle truck on the road ahead, and one of the cows had lifted their tail and got him in the middle of the windscreen.

Last week at 8pm, driving home from Wellington airport, it was raining and windy, just came out of the Terrace tunnel, saw a car on the road shoulder with a man bending over the engine trying to get it going {middle couple with grandson}.His wife and a child were in the car, I pulled out infront of them, I could not start their car. so I tow them all the way to Plimerton. They were so happy, the man say, he will have his son look at it in the morning. They thank me so many times I left, I drove through the red light , I didi not see a cop car, he pulled me over. Just as he was about to write me a ticket his private phone rung. He went back to the patrol car. He came back and ask me where i just came from. I explained.what i did , I mention a certain address. and he say thank you for helping them. so please don't drive through a red light again. I would have faced a huge fine

In the 21st century, do we really need fireworks to be purchased and used individually anymore? Isn't it time we woke up to the fact that these toys are very expensive, very fleeting, very dangerous and are best handled by experts who know very well how to put on a magnificent fireworks display in a safe and controlled environment?
Tina 423889
No, they are fun and good entertainment. If you are responsible with them its fine. Its part of being in a free country.

I've been planning to put my son in kindergarten at 3 years of age. He's 1 now, and it's been so hard lately with him. He's always unsettled, and I try everything to spend time with me and the cousins. Yet He's always unsettled and whiny. Does anyone have experience with day care, and can say if it's worth it or not?
Morenita
I say no to daycare if you don’t have to. I watch my grandsons while mommy goes to work. I definitely did not want anyone else raising my grand babies.

We all know when you're getting married, it does cost an arm & a leg. With the high rise of cost of living, people barely make the essentials in today's world. Every wedding has its special moments for any bride to be, but is it necessary for the bride to go over stream & be so much poshy & out of the ordinary flaunting money, without considering her bridal party if they can afford it or not. Usually the matron of honour has to fork out a lot of expenses for her, regardless she...
Kathy 1270954
My husband and I barely had two nickels to rub together. We felt it was wrong to expect our families to pay for what we wanted. We paid for 90% of it ourselves and a few things were gifted to us. We only had 30 people at the wedding and this included the minister and Bishop. We only invited the people who were most important to us. We had a sandwich buffet after the service.

Supermarket Giant Carrefour ditched PepsiCo products in France, Italy, Spain and Belgium over price increases... They stated that these products were far too expensive and would not stock them until prices were reduced...that is a massive supermarket taking care of its customers...why don't the other supermarkets do the same?...shouldn't they be taking on these giant corporations too?...what do you think?
Bugalugs
Sounds great but, in Australia, where we have 4 Large Supermarket chains, Aldi, Coles, Foodland IGA and Woolworths, the instant any of them, particularly Coles or Woolworths, they are both big but not as big as Foodland IGA and compared to the rest of the world minnows when compared to the likes of the 12,000 stroong Aldi shops, try to do anything the self-appointed Great Protectors of the Public, Australia's majority Foreign Owned Media and the Taxpayer Owned Australian Broadcasting Commission accuse them of bullying, of standover tactics. Coles and Woolworths simply cannot win, never mind that they are Australian, they employ 100s of 1000s of Australians and unlike German-owned Aldi they keep the money they make in Australia and pay their fair share of Australian Taxes.
We don't shop Aldi because of their dishonest advertising.

Why is it so hard to find a decent fun-loving honest man, to grow old with? I'm not that hot girl, but I know I'm not bad looking. What's y'all think?
Glen O 298805
I will sum up this problem I see repeated again and again in just one statement.
Modern woman seeks traditional man.

France will pay bonus to get their clothes and shoes repaired rather than throwing them away. The main idea is to cut down on the 700,000 tonnes of cloths thrown away by French people each year, two third of which end up in their landfills. Do you think, the North America, Australia and Canada will do same things in the near future?
Jeneral
The only clothes I buy brand new are underwear. Everything else comes from charity shops or off the market place. When I stop wearing the clothes or get tired of them, they go back to a charity store. The money I spend on clothes goes back into the community instead of lining a rich man's pockets. If they are worn out, they become rags and used in the garage. Isn't that better than having to wear the same clothes for years?

Do you think that when being with someone and them being on their phone the whole time is rude? It makes me feel that whoever they are texting is more important than me and what I have to say! Do we need a whole new set of manners to fit in with the technology? Also, when I'm out and people are talking in public, I wonder if they're talking to me, but they're on their phone 24/7. Do they even text in their sleep? I think it's just rude! Anyone agree?
AMUSICALTONY
The whole concept of "good manners " went by the wayside when we lost the ability to punish our kids with a swift kick in the pants. The current generation have no respect at all. Rewarding phone use? That's subjective. If someone is in conversation with me, I expect their full attention. People in public? Well they're not disrespecting me personally, so I overlook that. Although hands-free calls can be annoying. I was visiting someone at a hospital a while back. I got into the lift with rather attractive doctor. As the doors closed she said, "Hi, how are you?" As there was no one else in the lift I said, "Good thanks." She, then stunned me by asking what I was doing on the weekend. I told her it depended on my wife. She then swung her eyes toward me and indicated that she was using a hands-free device. I was so embarrassed.

A friend went to visit his GP for tests regarding possible prostate cancer. Not satisfied with the tests, he decided to seek a second opinion. The second GP made further tests and found he had the beginning of Prostate cancer. Would you get a second or third opinion till you feel sufficient tests are made to your satisfaction and peace of mind?
Linda C
Yes. My sister had a problem and she went to the doctors who said it was just a UTI. Went back as it was getting worse and said it was something to do with the bladder that might need a sling. This went on for a number of years going back and forth. She eventually had a haemorrhage and it was found she had bladder, kidney uterine, cervical, ovarian and on the list went on so in other words it had spread everywhere and was terminal. My sister went to this doctor on numerous occasions and she believed what she was told even though I pleaded with her to get a second opinion.
If you think something is wrong, go with your gut. Get a 2nd or even 3rd opinion. Doctors are not infallible and sometimes are just not very good.

One of my top favorite hobbies is going out and playing 18 holes of golf :) once a week. Now I usually play alone as my mates laugh and say it's such an old man's game. I'm 24 years old and enjoy a good game of golf. Is it really looked as "an old man's game"?
Dang Ling-bits.
Men start off playing football, they move to cricket or tennis and finally to golf. This shows that as we get older our balls get smaller.

Hi, has anyone noticed that once you re past the age of sixty, that you become invisible? Whether it s other members of the general public, or shop assistants, or even survey writers - they just don t see if you re elderly. How do you make yourself noticed?
Pat C 618241
That's OK. By the time you are in your 80s not only are you not noticed, you become invisible. They send you little notes of how good their retirement villages are, I'm still here still gardening, still cooking and hey I can still vote, still laugh with friends and silly me, I'm still here in Rewardia. So there.
